After fruitlessly driving around downtown Bloomington for a quick lunch spot (apologies to Mugsy's, which was quite enjoyable when I ate there last year), we caught sight of Meatheads on Main, next to a Chipotles. Rather than suffer the gigantic rice-stuffed gut-bomb capsule, we opted for Meatheads, despite the rather off-putting name. I ordered the Classic burger with everything along with cajun fries. Not only was the burger outstanding (not cooked to death, for one thing), but the service was awesome! The staff stopped by a few times to ask if everything was good ... and it was. Â The cajun fries were a little bit too salty for my taste, but that's a personal preference. The specialty ketchups (next to the high-tech drink dispenser) were really, really good. I'll definitely be back!
Review Source:I'm not much of a burger guy, but Meatheads is turning me. Most importantly, they have great burgers. They give you a great selection of toppings, a variety of sauces (all delicious) and they tasty fries. What about drinks? Glad you asked. They have one of those new fangled Coke machines where you can choose form a zillion flavors all from a touch screen.
But here's what I really appreciate about Meatheads. They genuinely care about what they do and who they serve. Each time I've dined here (mostly over lunch), a manager has stopped by to ask if my group has everything that we need. If we've finished eating and are still sitting and talking, someone will come around and clear our table. They take pride in what they do.
Also, they decorate their establishment with photos from around town and they also have seasonal sports schedules for high school and college athletics where they keep a running tally of wins and losses as well as scores.
Overall a great place. I'm glad that we have two in Bloomington-Normal.
Stopped here on our way back from Chicago and as a first timer I was impressed. Reminded me of a Five Guys in the way you can build your own burger but also has "chef specials" in that they are already built. Burgers were cooked just right and nice and juicy. The fries were quite good to and you get a lot so two people can easily split an order of fries.
Review Source:My thoughts on this Meatheads are essentially the same as my thoughts on the other Meatheads. The staff is friendly, the food is good (not very healthy, but delicious).
This location doesn't seem to have trash cans, but someone is by your table to pick up after you finish almost immediately. This location is open until 3am on Friday and Saturday. Never been that late, but I imagine their food is just amazing after one too many beers.
Some tips to improve your Meatheads experience:
1. Get the cajun fries, they are amazing.
2. Get the child size portion of fires. It is cheaper and still a huge portion (I honestly can't tell the difference between their child size and normal size.)
3. Add jalapeno's to the Californian Burger.
I really really enjoy the burgers here, and the fries are great. Â I love the whole build your own aspect...but god this place is expensive! Â It's a good once in a while treat.
Also...I love the soda machines here! Â They are so fun. Â I could play for hours just on the soda machines.
I must admit, I've really shied away from "burger joints" by and large the last several years-- trying to eat healthy and all. Â Honestly, I stopped here because of the infamous state-of-the-art pop machine, and as long as I'm on the topic, it didn't disappoint. :) Â They have two of them, and they are about the size of a refrigerator. Â You stick your cup under the dispenser, and after filling with ice, a 24" LCD touch screen awaits your command. Â You can essentially get any Coca Cola product with a myriad of flavors added--vanilla, lime, lemon, mango, etc. Â Way too much fun than getting a drink should be. Â Even if you are vegan, come here and get something to drink. :)
Moving on to the actual food...BEST. BURGER. EVER. Â This is a big statement for me. Â I own a restaurant. Â I've traveled the world. Â Granted, a burger isn't exactly comparing Kobe beef or Chilean sea bass, but this place has got the secret figured out. Â Â Three things really stood out for me:
1) Quality of beef & the fact that it wasn't dripping with grease
2) Quality and creativity of ingredients (I had the Cajun Sunrise, complete with fried egg)
3) Overall size of the burger. Â I've been to Five Guys and the thing is just disgusting and huge. Â The burgers here, even with the five or so toppings that came with my selection, was of manageable size and didn't leave me stuffed. Â
The fries were tasty, but I skipped having my own serving and just nibbled a few of my friend's, as I knew the burger was doing just fine on its own as it relates to caloric intake. :)
If you like a great burger, this is your place. Â Trust me.
This is such a difficult review to write.
They are filling a great niche with burgers late into the night with a WALK-UP window. And the first round of burgers was delicious enough that I devoured it first try, no breaks. They have the coolest pop machines that make me feel like I'm getting my soda from an ipod. There are tons of options for making your burger your own. And for ambiance, the decor is great, modern with photos of the surrounding area and campus.
Now. For the bad. They are pretty expensive, relative to college budgets. The second visit was going to tell it all, and it fell short. The sandwich was messy, so very messy and particularly hard to eat. I could only finish half and half of the fries as well. I felt like I had wasted money on the wasted food I couldn't eat. Even the BF was disappointed with his second round, not a good sign.
