The Medici Restaurant and Bakery

Medici is located in downtown Normal which is often difficult to find a parking spot.   There is a parking lot behind the restaurant with a few spots and a parking garage across the street, but be prepared to walk to the restaurant because you won't be parking close!

Having been to the restaurant for both dinner and lunch service, I feel comfortable saying the service is slow regardless of what time of day you are there.  We waited probably 10-15 minutes in between ordering our drinks and appetizers and then again for our dinner.

My husband and I both ordered drinks, the poolside lemonade and the mule.  The lemonade was strong yet had a perfect hint of sweet to offset it.  The mule however was so strong it was hard to even drink.  We ordered the spinach/artichoke crab dip for an appetizer and it arrived piping hot with two small loaves of sliced bread with it.  Although good, it was very creamy and lacked some of the flavor it had the potential to be.

I ordered the stout BBQ personal thin pizza and my husband the Medici burger with sweet potato tater tots.  Our meal was better than our drinks and appetizers.  The pizza had the perfect flavor of stout in the sauce and the pizza was the correct thinness for the amount of toppings on it.   Would recommend this!   The Medici burger was cooked just as requested and came with jalapeno, tomato, lettuce, pickles, and cheese and other toppings you would expect on a burger.  The bun was made homeade, which helped it to be more flavorful.   The sweet potato tater tots that accompanied the burger were OUT OF THIS WORLD!  They were cubes of sweet potatoes lightly battered and then fried.  Sweet and salty and perfectly amazing.

Th prices seemed a little high, two drinks, two entrees and an appetizer was $65.  For lunch that's a little more than most would want to spend.  The atmosphere was nice and the restaurant was busy which probably means it is popular but with the service being lackluster and the food just average, this isn't a restaurant I will be visiting on a regular basis.

The food is underwhelming. The service is bare bones, so if you go, make sure you order something simple and don't expect drinks to come or be refilled.  I think the most this restaurant has going for it is the decor.

Delicious food, decent service.  I ordered the salmon once and salads the other times I've dined here.  The salmon is amazing, the salads average, and the sweet potato tater tots are a must-- although I suspect they are the frozen kind that I bought at the grocery store last week.  The atmosphere at Medici is great-- it's super casual and a big dead tree is, for lack of a better word, growing in the middle of the dining area.
