Mesob appears to be anything but impressive, but the food is very reasonably priced and absolutely devine. The service was good but a bit slow, although we were too busy enjoying our meal to notice, and this seems to be par for the course anyway. A meat combo and veggie combo were more than enough for two people. Bonus points for all of the veggie options being vegan!
Review Source:Ok so here's an update. Â I previously rated this place 5 stars! Unfortunately I've had to take it down to two. Â I ordered the zilzil tibs again (This time I remembered the name of the dish). Â I also ordered the tomato fitfit. Â The service was faster this time than last time. Â When I got home (about 15 mins later), my mouth was watering as I thought I was about to eat the same delicious food I had experienced before. Â Nope. Â Though the tomato fitfit was fantastic like last time, I was HIGHLY disappointed with the zilzil tibs. Â They were tougher than shoe leather! I mean the texture was tougher than beef jerky and very, very difficult to chew. The seasoning was definitely not like the 1st time when I went there. Â I probably ate about 5% of the dish before I literally had to throw the rest away :(. Â I have no idea what happened this time, maybe they were having a bad day but it only takes one time for me to feel like I wasted my money. Â And usually when I feel that way, I don't return to that place. Unfortunately, as much as I love Ethiopian food, I will be trying out other establishments and will not be returning to this establishment.
Review Source:Hole in the wall Ethiopian restaurant at its best! I dig the fact the menus were written on in Bic pen to change an item they no longer carried, and adding a new special. Â For those of you that don't know, you eat with your hands using a thin unleven bread. Â There is lots of flavor, and a must try for couples, as that they way you approach it will tell a lot about your date. Â
Speaking of date, this place was the saving grace for my partner and I on valentines day. Â They did a wonderful job, and Incense which filled the air brought a certain authenticity to the meal. Â
Oh And! the free coffee taster before the meal was a wonderful touch!
This place was my back-up plan for my Valentine's Day dinner because Queen of Sheba was closed.
The food here was really good and we got both the meat and vegetarian combos which were both less than $12, but it's not a lot of food and they don't have a menu option set out for large "combos." Â The food is really good, just make sure you order enough of it. Â The server also brought us out complimentary coffee which was lovely. Â Like other places I've been, the chef came out to check to make sure the food was to our liking and we were enjoying ourselves. Â
They do have a full bar, which is kind of weird for an Ethiopian restaurant, but no honey wine.
This place is extra-divey, so if you're looking for frou frou, look somewhere else.
They also burn a LOT of frankincense there, which I personally like the smell of, but I could imagine it would be overwhelming to some.
I'd have given a much higher rating but the bathrooms are just plain unsanitary. Â Hit up a 7-11 before heading there if you think you'll need to go.
This place was so good I signed up for an account just to make this review. I just at at Mesob for the second time. It's a hole in the wall type location, but so rewarding when you get inside. Very authentic vibe, it appeared that we were the only non-africans their. The server was extremely attentive and friendly. The food takes a while to come out, but that's because, the owner confirmed this later, everything is made from scratch to order.
In my two visits I've had the Meat Combo, the Kitfo and the Lega Tibs. All are fantastic, served on the best injera I've had in Colorado. Really rich sauces, can be really spicey if you'd like it to be. The Kitfo (raw to medium rare beef with an abundance of spices) was amazing, such rich flavors. And the portions are huge. You can definitly sav some for lunch. If you're a vegetarian, I've heard the Shiro (ground split peas and chick peas in berbere sauce) is amazing.
Another great part of the meal is if you happen to be there when they serve coffee. They actually bring out green coffee beans into the dining room and roast them in front of you, which provides a great aroma. They then serve everyone in the dining room, three small cups (with about 10 minutes in between serving).
Lastly, the owner is an absolute friendly gem, who will gladly teach you a little bit about Ethiopian customs and culture. If you're looking for a great ethnic meal, Mesob is an experience you won't forget.
I've been eating here off and on for about three years, and ate here in October for the first time in a while. It was amazing! The owner and cook is absolutely wonderful, and our waitress was very sweet and attentive. We ordered the gored gored, mostly rare, and the vegetarian combination. Both were really wonderful, and when our waitress noticed that I was really enjoying the homemade cottage cheese they make, she brought me out an entire box to take home with me! This is definitely one of the top three Ethiopian restaurants in Denver, and probably the best in terms of service.
If you don't like something specific in a combination, they are also willing to simply add more of another item you prefer.
My girlfriend loves food, and has just about every type of food that I can think of. It's great, because she looks for places like this constantly.
It's a small hole in the wall establishment, that's shop in an outdoor strip. The atmosphere is inside is very casual, and very relaxed. We walked in and were immediately greeted by a server, and were given the choice of seats in the restaurant.
The menu was very simple, and straight. Several meat dishes with detailed descriptions. Everything listed what came with the meal itself, and made it very clear what would come with each of them. There are also vegetarian dishes that are listed the same way. It's a wonderful menu, an should definitely be read over.
We had a hard time deciding what to actually get, so we went with the vegetarian combination platter. With this platter you get 5 of the vegetarian dishes, that leaves two of them off the platter, but it's absolutely delicious.
We got collard greens, lentils, cabbage, salad, and two other dishes that I honestly don't remember the name of at the moment. Doesn't make them any less delicious, don't take it that way. All of these little portions were served up on a big flat piece of bread, which I don't know how to describe. It's a very unique flavor.
Along with the main meal, we also had one of the appetizers, which was suggested by another Yelp member, the Tomato FitFit. It's absolutely delicious. It has the tang and bite of the bread from above, with some unique flavors that come with the appetizer. So delicious, you have to get it.
The big combination plate, and the appetizer were less that $18 after tax. So delicious, and worth every penny. We both got to eat very well for less than $20.
If you like Ethiopian food, this is a place that you must go.
As a huge Ethiopian food fan I'm always on the prowl for a great Ethiopian restaurant.
I shared yateklit wat, miser wat, and doro wat with some other people - all of which were just alright. The food at Mesob wasn't horrible or anything, but definitely not worth another visit to this restaurant if I'm not in the area.
late night ethnic food!!! Â
I had a flight that came in late and I was craving some ethnic food on a tuesday night. Â mesob definitely came through! Â open until 1am on that night, I stopped by. Â It was definitely hole in the wall and definitely legitimately ethnic. Â The place was busy with Ethiopians drinking, and I was the only non-Ethiopian in the place. Â I went to the bar and ordered the vegetarian combo plate to go. Â So much food for 10 dollars. Â Easily two big meals out of it. Â everyone was very friendly from the patrons to the people running the restaurant/bar. Â and the music in the background while waiting for the food was amazing. Â I wish i knew what it was or what genre of music it was.
This is one of my favorite new finds. Â Delicious food. Â Friendly service. Â What more do I need?
My very favorite thing is the Tomato Fit Fit.  This is an injera salad, with the bread torn up and mixed with tomato, onion, garlic, jalapeño, vinegar and spices.  Wow.  It's served cold, and is about $6.  And for me, there is at least enough for three meals in the take out order. Â
This is by far one of the most delicious things I've tasted lately. Â Amazing!
My other usual entrée is the vegetarian combination, with lentils, collared greens, potatoes and carrots, cabbage and other delicious stews to scoop up with the tasty, spongy injera. Â
Oh wow, I'm making myself hungry just typing this review.
Anyone up for Ethiopian? Â I think I need to try some meat dishes, very soon!
Tasty food at the right price.
I'll admit that we chose to try Mesob because it was a little less expensive than a couple of the other Ethiopian restaurants we looked at online. Â Nonetheless, I was very favorably impressed by everything about this place, and as I write this I'm scratching my head over why I haven't been back yet. This was my first experience with Ethiopian food but I was blown away by how tasty everything was. Of the three or four items we tried we liked them all, and we even managed to please the vegetarian in our group (not that vegetarians are inherently difficult to please but it can be tricky finding a place that makes everyone in a group happy). The staff here were not only very friendly but also tirelessly patient with our lack of knowledge of the food. Fantastic coffee too.
Tucked away in an old shoppette center right next to the old Lowry Air Force Base lies a surprise oasis in the form of an Ethiopian restaurant. Â Mesob is great - they sport a festive atmosphere, have friendly hostesses and play some great music. Â Best of all, their food is wonderful. Â We shared some lamb and a medley of vegetarian dishes - all bursting with brilliant ethiopian spices. Â Not the best ethiopian food around, but definitely not the worst. Â The people that run the restaurant are really sweet and I hope that they can keep their little oasis going.
