Solid diner breakfast from Mike's Place, we go about once per month, sometimes more often. As others have mentioned you order at the counter and pay (usually up front) and then Kim brings your food and drinks to the table. It can take a little time to read through the posted-only menu and Kim is waiting as you order, so try and make it fast. The decor is not much to look at, but I enjoy the fish tank in the corner and try and get the table in front of it.

I almost always order gyros and eggs here. It's a pretty awesome combination if you've never tried it, and I get the eggs over easy. It comes with hash browns, a piece of pita, some tzatziki, and the gyros and eggs. Once you bust into one of the eggs, you are going to be happy to have that egg yolk to eat your gyros with. It's really decadent for about $8. The gyros itself is not all that special, but it's not the frozen crap, it is cut from the loaf.

Normally my wife has pancakes, which I've tried, and they're decent. Apparently they make a weak cup of coffee according to my father, I don't usually get coffee here. Either coke or milk.

I can go until dinner after eating my go-to meal here. it's wonderful to eat in the winter time. Kim is the sweetest person and she always has a smile on her face. It's one of the few places that I enjoy reading something during the meal, and they usually have newspapers in a pile to the right of the counter. Sometimes they don't, so I bring a magazine. The whole experience is very relaxing Sunday morning style.

I don't have any pictures but I'll try and post some next time I go.

Food is good, solid, belly-filling, inexpensive, diner fare. Numbered breakfast specials are especial bargains. Pancakes are malty, tender and fluffy. Egg dishes are cooked in butter. The coffee is weak. Their hamburgers are made fresh every day of ground beef from a local butcher, hand formed and grilled. The half-chicken with rice and potatoes is delicious, a standout and a deal. Their soups often are quite tasty, especially vegetable. There are no longer any desserts; the counter showcase is continually empty and lightless.

As many other reviewers attest, Mikes' will win no awards from cuisine rating organizations nor interior design aficionados. That's not why Mike's exists. Petite Kim the owner speaks broken English, smiles widely and makes noises and nods a lot and usually seems to not completely understand what you're saying, then surprises you by proving that she does. She can be moody and is quirky, like many of us. She works incredibly long hours there in partnership with her grill guy and occasionally on weekends, a busboy kid. Her heart's in the right place. She'll bring your food to you outside all double bagged and knotted as a handle when you are walking your dog, whom you don't want to leave tied up in the cold. She rounds down the pennies. She acknowledges her many regulars and remembers their regularly ordered meals. There usually is at least one cop eating, maybe reading the paper. She is who she is, Mike's is what it is. Eat there if you want to feel good and hunger free because you had a generous, reasonably priced, good quality diner meal. Best, Peter O.

My husband and our two kids went for brunch on a sunday, around 10:30. Perfect timing because it was not too busy. We got a table immediately, sat down and looked at the menu (up on the wall, by the kitchen).

Kim (as we later found out thats who it was) came over and explained we had to order at the counter. She was actually really nice and said special hellos to our kids. I was surprised, as I had read the reviews of where she was mean. Not to us.

So we ordered: cheese omelet with toast, side of sausage, oj, chicken tenders, 2 hotdogs, 2 orders of fries, a bowl of chicken soup, and french toast and coffee. The food was all really good. Not gourmet amazing, but very solid diner fare. the fries were excellent. the chicken soup was excellent. My daughter said the hot dogs tasted weird. I tried it and it did have sort of unique flavor-maybe a little beefy or spicy? What can I say? It tasted fine to me, but I could see what she meant. She didnt eat hers. Oh well, they were only 1.65 each. The whole meal came to 28$

There was a server who brought our food out-plus all of our refills, extras of this an that, etc and he was great. By the time we left the place had filled up more.

We will definitely go back for brunch and will try lunch there too.
