Drinks are weak & not very good but other than that it's a decent spot.
Stopped in on Monday night while the hawks were playing. There were plenty of tables & aside from the fog horn (activated when the hawks scored a goal) it wasn't that loud.
I ordered some chili, a Margarita & an amaretto stone sour. Chili was a little sweeter than I expected but very good. The menu says it "three pepper chili" but I didn't think it was spicy at all. The drinks were fair but I nothing to get excited over.
Service was done with a smile and our waitress was attentive.
I'm giving this place 2 stars just b/c I think everyone liked their food. Â Outside of that, they are not accommodating and will not get your order right regardless of how many times you give it to them... We wanted potato skins, and were told that the other end of our table ordered the last batch.. The excuse was "our kitchen closes at 8 or 9 I think"... You think??? Well after 9 we saw other patrons being served food. Drinks were a bit watered, and security was more like CIA.. I just knew one of them was going to run my ID #.... nonetheless we were able to enjoy ourselves. Â Not typically a place I'd frequent.
Review Source:They were really empty for a Saturday night. Our table of about 10 people were obviously the loudest, but we had fun.
Our waitress was super sweet (she was the skinny girl with curly hair). She offered nice cocktail options when we weren't sure what to order. However, we had to track her down several times since she would disappear from time to time. :/
The bus boy would hover over our table to clear our glasses literally seconds after we had finished our drink. Really weird, but efficient??
My drinks were good, so I guess that's what matters.
This is the first time I've been here. It was really dark and I had issues seeing the menu (had to use my cell phone as a source of light). I get disappointed because they didn't have the sweet potato tots. Their fries were good though.
I ordered the Grecian chicken and no doubt it was the wing plane. They were pretty juicy, yet still a bit dry overall. The taste is not bad.
Some surprises... some people may sneak in for beers because we didn't get checked.
They have huge screens at every turn. You definitely won't miss the game. It was pretty difficult to flag down people so we took it in our own hands by walking up to them to get their attention. Boy, oh boy it worked well. We had two waitresses working on our side for the night.
I came here on Saturday night with my BFF who recently graduated from UIC. I wouldn'tve known anything about this place if it weren't for her. We walked in around 11ish and they were playing decent music and we were amongst a cool crowd. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. To my surprise, their kitchen was still open so we ordered the sampler. While we waited on our food, we enjoyed some of the free popcorn from the bar (which wasn't hot but was still warm). When our food came it looked awesome unlike most bar food, and it tasted as good as it looked. I can definitely say that I'll return
Review Source:Always go here to watch UFC or Manny Pacquiao fights, TVs are everywhere and it's easy to get seating if you come early enough. Â It's free for girls and $10 for guys (it used to be $5 entry regardless of sex). Â Some people might whine about cover, but that's pretty darn good considering you'd have to shelve out $60-80 for the fight on PPV (or stream it for free the next day, but who wants to wait that long?) I don't really order food here that often, but when I do I get the BLT with fries. Good sized portion for the price and you really can't mess up a BLT. :P
Review Source:Wow- what horrible service. Went there for the Bulls season opener, they changed the TV to the Fire, cut to 20 mins later and 3 requests to 3 servers, no help. They couldnt even check us out in a timely way and the manager cant apologize or take resposibility for her staff?! Um, if this is busy, I'd hate to come here when the season actually gets underway. Awful.
Review Source:No problems with this place. I haven't really ordered anything but appetizers from here so I can't comment on their food service but they are reasonably quick with their beers. Big menu of tap beers which I love and their <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a> certificates count towards alcohol which is super awesome. Tons and tons of TVs so you can watch the game. Been here for the World Series and the NCAA finals.
Review Source:Thought surely the low reviews couldn't be accurate. But I assure you they are out there with good reason. I have fairly given this place 3 attempts and there will be no more. Went in for dinner last night and was seated outside (which is apparently a porthole to a dimension in which you don't exist as a customer). It took the waitress about 5 min to even come acknowledge us and get our drink order. It then took almost 10 minutes to get a coke and two waters delivered back to us!! Please note that there was only one other table outside that wasn't even being handled by our waitress and the inside was pretty scarce in the customer department so there is no way she was "overwhelmed". Our drinks had taken so long I was seriously on my way in the door to complain when she ushered them out to the table.
When my friend ordered the Philly cheesesteak she was told by the waitress that they were out of steak. So my friend replied guess that means I can't order the steak panini to-go for my husband later and the waitress said "let me go ask the kitchen, they might use a different kind" WHAT? Steak is steak if you are out you are out and a good waitress/restaurant  would tell you that as you got your menus!
There is no reason a restaurant who has multiple menu items from salads to sandwiches should run out of a key ingredient. Â
Wonder if them being out of steak has anything to do with the horrible review of this place on Every Block the other day where some poor soul was served bad meat and then force to pay for half the sandwich anyways.
So we begrudgingly place our order and my friend ordered a glass of wine. This again took SO long we then went in and said cancel our food we are not eating here. The service and atmosphere is awful.
The waitress then proceeds to hand my friend her glass of wine (after we have had to chase her down inside) and tells my friend she has to pay for the wine because it has already been poured. Bad form and bad customer service. In an effort my friend gives her a $10 for the $9 glass of house wine and the waitress proceeds to keep the $1 and says its easier than trying to get change? How in the world this waitress felt she deserved $1 is beyond me. But we let it go just to be done with it.
Pick any other place in University Village or take the trip to Taylor. WAY better choices are out there!!!
The 3 strike rule is officially in effect for me. My other 2 experiences were quite similar in the poor service department. And those times the food was mediocre at best.
It's a shame, this place is close to my house and was really hoping it could be a new spot close to home.
UIC bar, too bad it came a few years after i left. Â Anyways, it was me and my best friend and our daughters (2 year olds). Â While trying to control the chaos of having two girls trying to take over the place, it was amusing and the staff were extremely helpful and courteous (or just being nice to us dads since they saw we were losing the battle). Â The food was good, the beer was cold... and the girls did eat up, so that's a win in my book.
Review Source:So I walk in with a friend and we want to sit at the bar. The bar was kinda full and all the tables were empty.
We're greeted by, no kidding, a hostess. Really? In a bar. I point to the bar, she shakes her head 'no' and starts directing us to a table.
I look at my friend and say "wanna just find a divey bar?" She says, "there are no divey bars around here." REALLY? In University Village? That's a crime. So we walked down Taylor street and found a bar with a PBR sign in the window. No hostess and we could sit anywhere we wanted.
I used to think this was an OKAY place...then as i kept coming back...it started to lose its appeal to me.
First my friends and i got MISLED by the AUTOMATED RECORDING when you call their number. It lists specials that really ARE NOT the specials for the day and have refused to update it even when i told them what i thought the specials were. The bartenders are borderline friendly and rude. only ONE bartender actually would make me want to stay and actually want to tip him well and ONE server that actually was really nice when i came in during the day time.
Another time i came in to order for take out it took FOREVER to even get someone to take my order and when finally the order went it, it took me 2 or 3 times to check on a SALAD TAKE OUT ORDER. On top of it i waited almost 30 minutes for my salad and finally realized someone just plopped it on the bar and NO ONE bothered to pick it up or figure out whom it belonged to or was suppose to pay for it UNTIL I finally asked the bartender to check if that to go bag was in fact my order. SURPRISE SURPRISE it was indeed my SALAD take out order that sat there for at least another extra 10 minutes.
All in all they do NOT do well to accommodate paying customers and it has become a LAST RESORT place for me. I would rather drive another 10 minutes to a place that has better people and service given i live walking distance from here.
What put the icing on the cake of this place was THE ABSOLUTELY RUDE reply to a friends review from the "owner".
Here is the reply to his review:
"You suck for being a cubs fan to begin with! I'm so happy they didn't change it for you! What makes you think they would accommodate one person over the whole bar? Sorry sweetheart your not that special! So happy you haven't gone back to this business because I wouldn't want to see your face in my bar anyways!, if you want a shit hole, GO up north! Or go to juniors....oops their closed closed!"
That really is juvenile. And doesn't sound like a place i'd want to recommend to people. Maybe if they fixed their issues they wouldn't need THREE LISTINGS ON YELP to try and get one with at least good reviews.
The "owners" review if you look below "Christina G" has been puffing up its reviews with THE SAME COMMENTS...
Just got a Yelp email from Christina G. Perhaps the owner of the bar? She felt inclined to email me about a review about Morgans (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/morgans-on-maxwell-street-chicago#hrid:LTnsoD6k5_isqk4bE-8XLg">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>). Anyway, she has no reviews or what looks like any activity on the site, but here's the email:

Classy all the way... I also like how Morgan's has different 2 Yelp business listings and yet they still have mediocre reviews. I wonder if Christina G. is personally emailing everyone that gave a bad review and saying stuff like this.
Just OK. Zero character. Really loud music. Servers more interested in flirting with a bunch of drunk 30-somethings on their third pitcher than noticing customers sitting at their table.
Morgans will always be packed during big games, beer and food are fine, but really... nothing special at all.
I used to come here years ago when I lived in the area...I remember it being better...better service especially.....or maybe I was just too busy getting my eat on and drink on during a game to notice....
This is a fun fun place to come with a big group for football games. The food quality changes though...sometimes good...sometimes not...guess it depends who is in the kitchen...
I was in the neighborhood and checked it out again...It wasn't very crowded yet we waited forever while waitresses passed us constantly. We gave up and just ordered our drinks at the bar.....we didn't order food....since we never had a waitress...by the time someone finally asked us if we wanted to order drinks it was like last call...hahaha....horrible...but at least we had a place to sit and not scream over the music...so it was okay.
Almost feel guilty leaving a decent review. Why all the negatives. Not sure if they changed things around but we had a good time. Food was above average. It was quiet. And the service was good.
FYI. we were here for dinner not drinks. Â Maybe time of day has something to do with it. Â All in all, a good experience.
This isn't my spot to go the next time I'm wanting to watch the payperview fights.  I was there recently, and the owner changed the amount of the cover charge the day of the fight.  Many turned away as they felt it wasn't right to raise the cover.  Upon watching the fight, our area of the bar had little to no sound, and there was closed captioning on the big screen for the fights.  The big screen projector wasn't  even center, to add more insult.  The the tv's weren't synced together.....time lapses. Â
The food was bland and too pricey, as were the drinks. Â Make no mistake about it, this isn't a "college bar." Â It's at UIC, but the students don't tend to go, from the times I've been there. Â
Well, at least the bar manager was nice enough to spare a few of us a cover. Â Yay.
Went to watch a boxing match (called ahead and they said it was $10 before 8:00 PM. Got to the door at 6:45 PM and they asked me for $20. There were about 10 others who confirmed they were told the same thing.
Manager came with terrible apology and said "if you don't like it you can go somewhere else". I wanted to watch the fight so I stayed. Right after the fight they blasted some heavy metal. When I asked the DJ why they were playing it so obnoxiously loud they said "they were told to get the blacks and latino's out!"
My friend later went to talk to the manager and she told him "when you run your own bar you can do things differently".
I've been here twice and I think that's enough.
The first time I came for a late lunch with a friend and we ordered the shrimp appetizer on special. It was supposed to come with a wasabi sauce but my friend asked also for a side of ranch. When the server brought out our 5 tiny shrimps for $10.99, there was no wasabi sauce. I wanted a Philly cheese steak but asked the server if I could get real cheese instead of cheese sauce and she said they don't make it that way. Seriously? You don't have slices of cheese in your kitchen? Irritated, I ordered the fish and chips instead. It was okay but I was disappointed I had gotten a dish so completely fried. The service sucked!
The second time I came here for dinner. I remembered that their spinach artichoke dip looked good when I saw it on another table on the first visit so we order that. I also got a cocktail called a Grape Sweettart. These were both good and the drink actually tasted like a sweettart! Off to a good start but I didn't really like any of the menu options so I got a burger. While I was waiting for that I ordered a glass of wine. They only have house wine and it is $9/glass. Really? For house wine at a sports bar? Ok. The burger came and it also was quite good. The service was better this time too. Unfortunately, the Hawks game was playing and with each goal, a really annoying and loud horn was sounded.
My overall feeling is that they serve adequate but overpriced food and the service ranges from poor to fair.
I didn't know what to expect going in but I can say that Morgans is a nice bar.
The circular bar is spacious with several flat screens and there was a group of college students partaking karaoke in the back room.
 Â
We sat at the bar - ordered a few rounds of drinks and appetizers.
We had grilled shrimp and steak, these were very tasty.
I don't know why I keep coming back here...
Went here last night around 5 for a quick dinner/drink after work and was very disappointed. Â First, it was pretty much empty. Â We seated ourselves, as the sign at the door told us to. Â Finally after maybe 10 minutes we went and found menus for ourselves as we didn't know what else to do. Â Finally we considered going someplace else, but our waittress found us so we figured it could only get better. Â We were wrong.
I had draft beer - it was fine and pretty cheap. Â This was the best part of the experience. Â We decided to split the Shrimp Po Boy and the Maxwell Burger. Â The burger was overdone and there was nothing special about it. Â The shrimp were missing the buffalo sauce. Â I went and found the waittress and asked for it on the side so that I could add it. Â This made the sandwich soggy and even worse. Â
I think the worst part about the experience was the lack of service. Â No one seemed to care that we were there or ask us how anything was.
What happened? Â I swear that you used to be able to go to Morgans for food/drinks, but there is no way I'll be back.
This place is a nice happy hour or late night spot. Pretty normal bar set up, but the food is surprisingly good. I've been there a couple of nights and there was live music which was awesome, but it was so loud I couldn't hear myself think.
The patty melt is my favorite, and all of the normal bar food items are above what you'd get at a normal pub. If you're in the south loop area and want a drink and a burger why not. Don't travel across the city for some Morgans though.
When you can see Golden Tee in the window what do you expect. Exactly what you expect being where it is. Employees that don't give a crap about you cause they're used to dealing with broke college kids.
On my last experience, I went in with my wife for a late night drink. Spent $15 on two drinks and exactly one minute after our drink was poured we were told that we had five minutes to finish before they kicked us out.
Thanks for telling us that before we ordered douche!
If you like this place then please stay here and stay away from Skylark.
I really wanted to give more stars because my burger was pretty damn tasty, and when they served it, it came with an onion ring on the stack of fixings.
But, worst service ever. Â We came for a late lunch and the place was pretty much empty. Â We sat at our table and waited while we watched the bartender and the servers stand around and chat. Â It wasn't until we flagged them down that one came over. Â At least she was apologetic. Â
Of course after recognizing that the service had been less than stellar so far, you'd think that she'd come back in the 'few minutes' she promised while we checked out the menu. Â Um, no, the chatting at the bar was evidently far more important. Â Once again we had to flag her down.
When the restaurant is empty, it shouldn't take over a hour for 2 people to eat lunch. Â
Next time, I'll hit one of the other lunchy bars on Halsted.
Morgan's is that kind of bar that you can wander in and immediately strike up a conversation with those around you.
Sure there are tons of TV's to watch your fav sporting events- bar darts, a decent jukebox and some other game machine at the bar that people were lining up to play and bar food that looked quite good (and if it's any indication- the guys next to us scarfed theirs down in a minute!).
But the real fun here are the interesting array of people who frequent the place. Students, sports fans, young and old- this place is a potpourri of humanity.
We sat and talked to a couple of regulars- which was great for us as the only reason this was not a 4 star review was the service. As the only women in the place- the women bartenders could have cared less about us. Guess they thought they knew where their "bread was buttered". Ha-little did they know.
I had to have the two guys we met order all of our drinks or we would have been dry all night. What the heck?
Anyway- sans that little snafu- this place is a good place to stop in and hang with friends. Â As for us- we made a couple of new friends who invited us back for tomorrow night. Gotta love the friendliness of south side bars!
There's a million reasons why I should give this bar zero stars, embarking on an anti-doucheface rant that will last 1,000 years. Â Unfortunately, time has softened my rage and made me a smidge less judgmental. Â Just a smidge. Â
There's karaoke, college, kids, and assholes with fake tans, but there's also Sierra Nevada on tap, decent food, and a patio area. Â It's also close to my 'hood which is kind of a bar no-man's land. Â Plus my drinking companion wanted to watch the Cubs game. Â
Perhaps I've learned to have that positive attitude my dad was always talking about. Â That or my spirit has been broken. Â Who knows?
Morgan's is a decent spot for when me and my friends want to head to a nearby bar for some cheap drinks fast. Â Honestly, who wants to head all the way up to Wrigleyville on a whim, especially if you live in the UIC area? Â There's a parking lot half a block down and the rate is dirt cheap. Â Or it's even close enough to walk if you're in the area.
I like Morgan's because of convenience and CLEANLINESS! Â I hate going into bars and being afraid to put my purse or rest my arm on the tables due to the sticky residue. Â And I've never had a problem getting a seat there. Â Their chicken tenders are pretty good there and the Dirty Girl Scout shots are yummy.
And as Walter J. had said, there really isn't a reason this place should get below 3 stars. Â It's a decent spot. Â It's a sports bar, what do you expect?
What? I haven't written a review yet?? Sheesh...
Ok, 4 stars for the ambiance alone because there is tons of seating, great for small groups or large parties. Â Service can be a hit or miss.
Sunday's appear to be a great day here during football season. ESPN radio does a show here in the AM.
Decent prices on drinks.
Food - meh. Â I ordered a california salad once for lunch because I was in the mood for avocados, it was spring, just getting warm outside and I wanted something to take me into summer mode.
Unfortunately, the chicken was dry and rubbery and the avocado was hard and unripened. Â Ew. Â I think I ate the lettuce and left.
This place is your normal sports bar. Nothing special, nothing stand out.
A bunch of TVs, like two per person.
A lot of beer and beer specials (a bucket of five beers for $12)
A lot of collegiates and those not willing to admit their collegiate days were long ago.
It's loud in here and not from the people. With all those TVs you'd think they would regulate the volume.
Apparently some radio (?) show broadcasts from here on Bears home games. Glad I didn't get to experience that.
Food is average. Drinks are average. From what the guys I was with said the waitresses were average.
Oh hum...
Let's just put it this way, I wouldn't go here if it wasn't in my hood. They've overcharged my credit card three times. WHY? Is it really that hard...why THREE times? Let's just say I'm a cash girl now...and you should be too. I'd really like to clock that broad in the face that works the bar. She's so MEAN. If you're a bartender shoudn't you have some kind of people skills? She's the one that's overcharged my card three times, and then wouldn't admit to it. She's only nice to old men. So if you're an older good looking fellow you might have better luck with that skank.
If you don't live in the hood...don't go there..it's not worth it.
Morgan's is "okay" but not "great". Â Right now, it meets my needs: air conditioning, booths, access to my wireless network, and cheap eats from 3-6pm Monday-Friday. Â
I ordered a lemonade and chips & salsa so I wouldn't feel quite so guilty for taking up a booth with my laptop. Â The lemonade is from the fountain, but bearable, and the salsa is SPICY. Â Since I like spicy food, it's perfect!
How do you screw up a pulled pork sandwich? Morgan's has the recipe. You use what tastes like frozen packaged shredded pork and pour some tasteless sauce (that probably comes in a giant tub) over it. Then, you serve it in the cheapest supermarket bread you can find. (Head to Skylark, just south of this place, if you want a really GREAT pulled pork sandwich. See my review.) Even the onion rings were also obviously nasty frozen, packaged, and cheap. However, cheap doesn't mean inexpensive. I paid what I thought was a hefty price for the awful food.
I guess what I'm saying is, JUST DON'T EAT HERE.
I suppose that if I had gone there just to drink, it wouldn't have been so bad. It's big and clean, and those are pluses, right? Oh, and my server was a cute, nice, hip gal who didn't mind the naughty homosexed conversation my queer pals and I were having. So one star for cleanliness, and another for nice servers. That's all.
I really, really wanted to like this bar. We went here the other night. I just had my ACL repaired so my leg was in a brace that I could not bend.
Our waitress was very friendly, but not the sharpest tool in the shed. Â I told her about my knee and she said no problem. We asked her to put on the Kansas game and it took 3 more times for her to get it changed.
First, someone in our party ordered one of the martinis, but it tasted like robitussin. NASTY When the waitress came over she bumped into my knee not once, but twice......uhm..hello???  .We ordered the Goat cheese appetizer and it was below average. The chicken sandwich was great and I hear the  burgers were good as well, but the service was beyond bad and she proceeded to hit my knee again!! Very smokey place as well...
I used to actually like Morgan's. Â Their burgers were ok and the service was spotty. Â There was that one girl who flirted with the whole table because they were boys, little did she know I was the one tipping her and just because I didn't have a wiener, she could have at least payed some attention to me when I asked for water and she forgot four times. Â I still gave her a nice tip, because I am awesome like that.
Then school started and the condos started filling up and it became over run with yuppies and college students and old men trying to hit on those college students, and the service became crap and the food soon followed.
I was a waitress for 9 years and I usually understand when sh*t happens but it shouldn't happen all the time. Â I'm giving it three stars because when School isn't in session it's pretty ok.
This is a great place to watch a game! Â Many TVs, good food, attentive and friendly waitstaff, and a good beer selection. Â I recommend the Morgan's Burger, which is topped with Jalapeno Cream Cheese and Bacon. Â Great!
UPDATE 1/9/07. Â I am downgrading them a star due to a poor experience last night. Â They suddenly and without warning stopped serving anything off their menu and special list before 8pm. Â They did offer appetizers and pizza, however. Â The server offered no explanation, but suggested that it was because they were too busy. Â Now, they were pretty busy, but there were still empty tables and everyone in there had a seat. Â If they can't handle a full restaurant, why not make the place smaller or hire more kitchen staff?. Â This is one of those places that I'll keep going back to even if I have a bad experience or two, but I hope there aren't too many bad experiences.
Update 5/15/07: Another bad experience with poor service last night. Â It's just so spotty. Â I kind of feel bad that I only tipped our server 10%. Â But she wasn't busy and provided poor service - not acceptable. Â Yet I keep going back. Â Shame on me!
Update 1/14: Â Yet another update, and yet another star gone. Â Beware, if your total bill exceeds a certain dollar amount(maybe $50), you will be assessed an 18% gratuity. Â They will just add this to your bill without telling you or asking you. Â I don't have any idea why I keep going back here. Â Quality of food keeps going downhill, too.
