At first, I was a bit set back by the $5 cover and the 3 whole minutes the bouncer took to scour my ID in every way, shape and form. But I was instantly a fan upon entering. The drinks are reasonably priced and the service is pretty decent. What got me, though, was the incredible view of the Ben Franklin bridge! It's an ideal location and I think Morgan's Pier did a great job with utilizing the space and making it dance and group friendly, along with really good music. Lots of people (was there at 11pm) and the bathrooms were pretty clean in comparison to some of the other bars in the area.
Didn't like how wine was served in plastic cups though. C'mon! Drinking from a glass is half the reason why anybody buys wine anyway.
Sorry to say my high hopes of a good time were dashed before I even sat at the bar. My husband & I went on a Saturday afternoon. Â It wasn't crowded at all. We HAD planned on apps and drinks. Â When we approached the bar, the woman bartender (sorry I don't know her name) ROLLED HER EYES! I was surprised that my husband noted it too.....So he had ONE beer and I was handed my 3oz wine with ??? disgust that we were in this establishment! Â What a huge let down. Â We left and argued over the fact that my husband left a crappy $1 tip...I would have left 0! Â I am a former food and drink server & have NEVER done that before. The day was salvaged shortly after we left and headed down to Cavanaugh's River Deck where they were busy, but very personable! Nice even! All 's well that ends well, just a shame for Morgan's because we spent our money elsewhere & won't ever spend ANY $ there. Â Save your efforts & go to Cavanaugh's!!!!
Review Source:I had a wonderful time here. The decor is beautiful yet rustic enough to make you feel like you're at a garden party. I like the idea of being able to sit anywhere. My boyfriend and I went at about 9pm on a Wednesday.
The menu is kind of small at least when we went so dont expect a full meal with sides. Its pretty much just appetizers. We had the wings, fries and pork ribs. The wings and fries were amazing, yet the ribs lacked any real flavor whatsoever. We drank Yards Philly pale ale on draft so I don't know how their cocktails are. But I was a happy camper with their beer list.
The waitress was great and always found us in the huge area and she was very fast. Our food came out quickly.
Great place for a date night or with a group of friends. And it is on the water so I recommend a light jacket at night time. It is nicer and has better food than Cavanaughs River Deck down the street.
I went to Morgan's on a Friday night for a couple of hours. Â I got in before the cover charge started, it seemed like people eating dinner were thinning out and the place was on the verge of turning into a full blown Jersey shore club. Â From what I have read on others' Yelp reviews, perhaps I left at a good time. Â While I was there early in the evening, it was a relaxed atmosphere with good drinks on the water. Â I was happy to see that they serve dark and stormies and the servers were always available to refill your glass.
Review Source:I don't get why this place has such a following. It has a beautiful location, true, and i've given it numerous chances but every time it's just not my scene. First of all, $24 for two long islands?! I'm a bartender so i know that long islands are a pretty pricey drink but $12 a pop with mostly sour mix added and in small cups? WHYYYY!?
The music is just not my style. A lot of weird techno, and i'm pretty open to music, but i rarely find a night there where i can really get down, and i avoid the dancefloor like the plague since it's a breeding ground for creeps. It's always the biggest weirdos that flock there. Between the lurkers with bad fashion, the over abundance of fog machines, and horrible lights i always feel like i'm having a bad trip.
It's always packed with snotty, judgmental girls with bad haircuts and guys in crappy plaid shirts and the sex appeal of some smelly, indie band kid.
The best part about this place the hot dog stands. Two dollars for a pretty delicious dog and an abundance of toppings.
Oh, i've also eaten here- had the melon salad which was NOT what i expected, god awful, and not worth the money i paid. My friends got a burger that looked less than mediocre, and root beer peanuts which tasted like soggy beatles rolled in dirt.
This is solely for the late night drinking experience on Saturday. Â I've never eaten here.
If this was last summer, I'd give it 5 stars: Â no cover, no lines, no shitty crowds, amazing live performances (ICONA POP!), and a little smaller in size, hence more of a fun, dancy vibe.
This summer, I'm a bit shocked at how much it's changed. Â There was a $5 cover, a line (luckily we got there at 10 instead of 11 when the heavy crowds roll in), a weird mix of people, and a DJ that played what sounded to me like all transition music....that bland kind of house you'd hear while shopping somewhere high-end like Barney's. Â No vocals, no buildups or breakdowns....nothing to change of the pace of the monotonous beat. Â
Since last year, it looks like they've added on to the dance floor and made it bigger which was really awkward when you're the only group dancing and people just watch you from the outskirts. Â When it was smaller, it forced people to be more sociable and the vibe was a lot better. Â Plus, there's a damn smoke machine now? I'm fine with a little bit here and there but that thing was blasting so hard I could barely see the DJ and his strobe lights through it.
FYI: don't order the slushy that boasts to have "fresh melon" and white rum. Â It not only tasted like those gross, cloyingly sweet pre-mixed frozen packets you can buy at the supermarket, but it made us all so parched we had to flag down our waitress for some water. Â Not fresh at all. Â You're better off sticking to the wide variety of beer they offer here.
I'm still giving it a 3 star rating because the drink selection is a lot better than Cavanaugh's, and the outdoor area is too damn cute, especially if you're in the mood for a chill kind of night. Â I'm still really glad anyone can sit on the decks and it's not sectioned off for VIP. Â Plus, you can get a server and skip waiting at the bar.
Maybe I'll come back on Thursdays when it's RJD2 performing and it's supposedly hoppin'.
It's a shame that you can't opt for zero stars. I had high hopes for this place. I went a month ago on a Saturday afternoon for a few cocktails with a friend and it was busy but not crazy. The service was decent at the bar. I was really excited because one of my favorite dj/artists rjd2 is a regular performer there. So I bought the tickets for the show on 7/11 and went with a friend, who happens to have the disability of only having one eye. Long story short, he went out to smoke and on the way back in he stumbled on the first stair into the place, hence only having one eye and not the greatest depth perception, and the goons working the door wouldn't let him back in. The show had not even started yet. So I went out to find out why they wouldn't let him back in and told them about his disability, but they just didn't care one bit, he was not coming back in. I started to get agitated with them as the show hadn't started and I had an open tab in there and they then pushed me out on to the sidewalk and told me to leave too. These thugs wouldn't give me my card back on my tab, then when they realized I wasn't leaving without it took 20 minutes and returned my card and tab was much larger than the 3 drinks I bought on it. Â They refused to give me anything other than the credit card receipt so I couldn't even verify what they were charging me for. I will be disputing that with my bank.
Overall I want to send out a huge FUCK YOU to Morgans Pier, and here are the reasons why I will tell everyone I know to never go to your sleazy establishment. Not only do you discriminate against people with disabilities but your door staff seems to get off on what little power they are given and are complete and utter assholes but you also tried to rip me off. Ill be sure that you get NONE of the money I had originally tried to spend there. I hope this review steers everyone away. The only thing you had was location. Buh bye
Fun drinks, decent food & overall stellar atmosphere.
Why 2 stars you ask? Well, our group was large and kept changing, and we are 100% sure we were grossly overcharged. We asked and everyone refused to do anything about it. When I say overcharged I mean to the tune of several hundred dollars. That's unacceptable, especially when you're a big group who was very interested in returning. Not to mention it was a quiet Wednesday and they were by no means overwhelmed with patrons.
Not cool at all Morgan's Pier, not cool.
Not sure why this place currently averages 3 stars, but I had a blast with my friends.
The cover was only $10, which is very reasonable considering the awesome music and atmosphere. There was an abundance of people, but I love crowds and meeting new people, so that was cool. I even took a picture with a really hot guy, but didn't exchange info (silly me).
The only downsides to this place were the bar and the difficult and questionable parking situation. It was packed, so getting the the bartender's attention at the main bar required some flashing of twenties and/or skin, in order to put your drink orders in. The parking was difficult; side streets, one ways, confusing parking signs, and just a headache.
I'll definitely be frequenting this place this summer, and if you read this review and like it, i'd appreciate it if you'd inbox me and invite me along with you and your friends :-) lol..but really
Been here for lunch and dinner - great for both but different atmospheres. Overall it's a huge deck with a couple bars, lots of seating (picnic tables, dinner tables and booths, and bar seating) and summer-type games to play. Great view of the water, boats and be Ben Franklin bridge which is gorgeous at night.
LUNCH - laid back and relaxing
Went for lunch and it wasn't over busy and since it was so hot they had the fans and misters blowing...nothing like sitting on a nice deck with some mist keeping you cool as you sip on a drink. Very laid back and casual, very relaxing!
DINNER - great view, turns to night club
Dinner on Friday was more crowded, but it's seat yourself. Lots of security around as it turns into a dance club as the night goes on. Kitchen switches to a "late menu" at 10pm so if your looking for dinner get there earlier.
FOOD/DRINKS - overall pretty small portions - GLUTEN FREE options available
- Must try the Peel and eat peanuts - Root beer brine and smoked salt = freaking amazing! They come out all warm...definitely worth a try for $3.
- Summer beans salad grilled peach and sunflower seeds had arugala in it which made it simply delicious
- They do have Fox Tail GLUTEN FREE BEER
- Tons of menu items can be made gluten free which is just awesome
Fantastic spot for a summer afternoon or evening. Â Enjoy both by coming early with a group to secure a cushy booth or table along the water, then watch day transition to night and Morgan's pier transition from chill dock-lounge to dance club. Â
Good weather makes for a full crowd here. Â With that, very few open tables so it's essential to come early to if you desire a seat. Â Plus you can evade the $10 cover which commences at 9pm.
The dance scene is different every night. Â Last night it was the hipster-favorite Making Time - whose music is more slow waves of lyric-less beat. I plan to return on a night with more pop/hip-hop to which I can actually dance, not just sway.
The crowd varies in levels of attractiveness. Â Casual attire is appropriate, so keep your stilettos at home. Â
My Stoli-soda cost $7 and my Bloody Mary (not-bad. tasted thickened with bbq sauce and very spicy) $8. Â Definitely pregame if you are doing the dance thing. Â Their happy hour is also good.
Overall a good place to take a group. Â It can be overwhelming at first but after a few drinks you'll settle in just fine.
What a great spot! I have been here a few times and have always had a great time. Right on the water, with a great view of the BF Bridge, it's a great spot to relax and appreciate the atmosphere. I've come with friends and have also taken my family--it's a good spot for everyone. My dad even requested to come here for a bite on Father's Day. I like the upgrades they made since last summer (elevated seating in the middle) and am always a fan of the music. One early evening my cousin and I had a dance off with some young Philly guys and my dad. Ha. Take a minute to picture that. I agree with other yelpers on the diversity of the crowd, which is something to appreciate. Good beer list, the fries are super yummy, and any place I can get ice cream is a good place for me. Check ahead of time for what time they start charging cover--it's different on the weekends.
Review Source:Went to Morgan's Pier for the first time last night - we got there early for dinner around 7:30 and had no problem getting a table for the 3 of us. Â The guys at the door checking IDs told us that the cover started at 10 so we were glad we made the decision to get there early for some grub before the crowds roll in later. Our waitress was decently nice, forgot to get us refills on drinks a couple times but other than that she checked in on us often. I had margaritas on the rocks to start for my first few beverages, they were okay but a little on the small side for the price you are paying - same thing for any liquor drinks like the gin and tonics my boyfriend was drinking, tinyyy little cups. They do have a good selection of draft and canned beers which I was happy about but just not really in a beer mood last night. Â Most beers are in the $5-7 range. Â I don't know what the drink situation is like late night but they did have smaller beverage carts set up outside of the main bars which I'm sure help out a lot when the place gets crowded.
The atmosphere on the water and under the bridge is pretty cool. Feels like you're in Annapolis or Martha's Vineyard or something for a little while instead of in good old Philly. Â The crowd last night at dinner was diverse - any one from families with young kids, to older couples, and lots of 20 somethings, not a bad mix of people at all. As the night went on it got even more diverse which seemed fun and is one of the things I like most about Philly.
The food menu was pretty limited. I got the pulled bbq chicken sandwich which was good, not great but good. My boyfriend got the burger which he was utterly disappointed in - it was tiny and for $9 for a cheeseburger I think you're kinda expecting something more. Â You can go to Monks and get a burger and fries for $12 and its literally double the size burger and just way better than what this was last night. Â We shared a basket of the fries and they were really good - crunchy and served with some delicious dipping sauce. Â I think we've decided we probably wouldn't go back here for dinner, but it is a great spot for drinks and a fun atmosphere outside of the regular Philly bars. They did have some fun reggae music playing when we first go there and through dinner, and by the time we were leaving it was more of a techno clubby vibe which is appealing to a lot of people but just not my thing. Â I'd go back for drinks again sometime but the food here just didn't impress me and was super expensive for what you get compared to other Philly restaurants.
Morgan's is by far my favorite bar in Philly. I love that it's right on the water and right next to the bridge. I've eaten the pork sandwich and the fried tomatoes and absolutely loved both. It's great that they also offer $2 hotdogs and ice cream.
The DJs have attracted mostly hipsters, and I wish they would play more current music when it gets later, but it's still nice that they have dancing. Restrooms were pretty clean although the line was really long. The atmosphere here is unbeatable though, and I've had so much fun every time I've gone. I love this place, and I'm so glad there is a riverfront bar!
Sometimes you don't appreciate the things you have until you see them from someone else's point of view. Morgan's Pier, for example. I bumped into a friend from Manhattan there a few weeks ago and he was really impressed with the space and the mixed crowd. That wasn't exactly how I would have described Morgan's Pier prior to that moment, but when I actually looked around at the crowd that night, it truly was varied. And everyone seemed to be having a great time doing their own thing, whether it was dancing, drinking, eating or just hanging out. Â
I've gone with large groups twice so far this year and both were mostly positive experiences. There will always be extremely drunk people in a sizable place like this, and I had a drink spilled all over me on the first night, which was obviously annoying. I do think the security staff does a pretty good job keeping an eye on people but things happen. Â
We ate dinner the second time and the food was great. Props to George Sabatino for holding it down. We shared the scallop crudo, a cheeseburger and fries and the whole fish of the day. The crudo was nice, the cheeseburger and fries were both solid, and the fish was incredible. On that night it was served with a chopped tomato salsa with some avocado, and the fish was cooked with fennel and orange stuffed inside. It was excellent. We also rarely came across any bones.
Getting a drink can be a challenge but the smaller bar to the back left seems to be less crowded. I'm looking forward to spending a bit more time at Morgan's Pier this summer!
Due to mixed reviews of Morgan's Pier, a friend tried to convince me we should go elsewhere last Saturday evening for booze/dancing. "What's not to like about drinking outside on a nice summer night?" I replied.
Turns out, plenty.
I'd been to Morgan's Pier before -- last summer, on a rainy night, after a show at Festival Pier -- and loved it.
The space itself is nice: great view of the river and the bridge, little trees lit with white Christmas lights, a tent for the DJ and dance floor. The beer selection is solid, with an entire bar devoted to craft brews. And the DJs, both times I was there, played danceable remixes of pop/techno/electro-type stuff. All good.
However, with the better weather last Saturday night, the place was jammed by 9 p.m. And not with the docile hipster types I saw there last year. Big, burly dudes doused in Axe body spray crowded out us normal-sized folk lining up to buy drinks. Nearly-nude ladies -- seriously, I saw butt overhang coming out of one girl's shorts -- in stilettos tottered around the wooden decks. Not my scene, and not the scene I expected.
The worst part: The service. The place was majorly understaffed given the crowd, and the staff that was there was majorly rude.
Once I reached the bar, I waited there for 15 minutes, money out, before being acknowledged. The very tall, very burly guy bartending then glared in my direction for a nanosecond before serving the very tall, very burly guy who'd just lumbered up to the bar next to me. In response to my exasperated look, the bartender barked, "I LOOKED AT YOU AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME WHAT YOU WANTED SO I MOVED ON."
Apparently *dirty look* is the new "what would you like to drink?"
(Okay, I don't need someone to *ask* me what I want in a crowded bar, but I can't tell that you want me to order if your look is so brief and angry that I'm not even sure it's directed at me.)
What good is a great craft beer selection if it's served up slowly, and with scorn? Pass!
This review is specifically for their nightlife scene. Â I started coming there only a week or two after it opened and I always look forward to going back. Â Hands down, the best location and set up of any bar in the city. Â It is located on a pier with an awesome view. Â Immediately after you walk through the archway entrance you will see the light up Ben Franklin Bridge reaching over the Delaware River. Â The area is all outside with two bars beneath covers. Â I went Fri night last week and significantly more people were there than I remembered several months ago (not necessarily a bad thing). Â There was also a better crowd ratio here than I have seen at a lot of the other popular bars. Â The line was long, but went by quick and I was inside after 10 minutes. Â I bought a decent blue moon and a LIT which was strong/good, normal expensive club prices of $6 for beer and $10-12 for drinks. Â They usually have some local dj's for weekend nights playing in the corner under the tent. Â The dance floor and seating area are separated enough that both groups can be content. Â I enjoyed the music and atmosphere late Fri night and other nights. Â All in all, I'm pleased that the pier opened up and I will definitely be going back.
Review Source:After my first great experience with the dining menu, I was thrilled to try their bar menu on a beautiful day in June. The weather was great. The atmosphere was perfect but sadly the food was a little all over the place.
First the good....
The cheese croquettes with kale and romesco were delicious as were the really good fries. If you're going to call them really good...they better be really good and thankfully they were. Also, the lobster bibb salad was again, delicious.
The Blahhhhs...
The Pulled BBQ chicken sandwich. The chicken was dry and the bun was ok. I will say that the pickle cucumber salad was tasty though. Another disappointment was the burger. Two people ordered this medium to well and both came out medium rare. I was pretty surprised by this though I love my burgers mid-rare. I would think this place would know exactly how to cook a burger the way a customer wants. Again, the bun wasn't great so it was just ok.
All that being said, I love Morgan's pier. I love the concept, I love the space, I love the addition of a hot dog stand and I loved the dining menu. Hopefully with some time, they'll get a little bit more consistent.
A chilly dreary evening at an outside waterfront hot spot, a good Idea? maybe. I was spared the hoards of singles and the typical Delaware Ave vibe.
I was treated to a dinner with excellent service and very good food. We ordered from the pre fix menu and I had the salt baked chicken with carrot salad and steamed buns. It was a great dish. I also enjoyed some oysters and champagne. The crowd was a little thin because it was early and the weather was not great. Â I think this worked out great for us, because we got to enjoy our food and the great service without being rushed. A special nod to the waiter who brought a blanket for my friend who defiantly insisted on wearing a sun dress.
How to describe Morgan's Pier at night when the sun goes down, the families go home, and the scantily clad come out... Â Well, Morgan's Pier is like a big ball of herpes infested people just rubbing their genitals together. Â I gave it an extra star because it's a great place to be finger blasted by a complete stranger!
Review Source:Oh Morgans Pier what a love hate relationship I have for you.
The Love- This is a fantastic place for summer day (or early evening) drinking. Drinks are average priced and the views are beautiful. I've never had a problem getting a seat and servers have always been super attentive (constantly refilling water when we were not even getting food- I always appreciate hydration while boozing)
The HATE- The food! The first time at Morgans Pier we just ordered snacks so I couldnt really judge but everything was underwhelming (ex. got chicken wings which were over priced, not very tasty and not very hot) The next time we ate there we made reservations for dinner. We ordered the Kale croquettes (AKA luke warm grocery store cheese balls) an octopus app that had octopus, some kind of greens and pickled bacon (Octopus its self was well cooked and tasty but dish as a whole was way too salty, also luke warm). We also ordered a rib eye as a main course to share  (also too salty and luke warm). I absoloutely hate luke warm food. Food should be hot or cold people hot or cold. $30.00 for a crappy rib eye is unacceptable so and with so many amazing places near my house I'm not willing to give the food at Morgans Pier another try.

Morgan's Pier (MP) website terms the fare as "Foodie Picnic Menu" with atmosphere of "Outdoor Beer Garden".
I was here last year. Â I was seated on tables lacking coverage from the heat or elements. Â I had to quickly retreat to the covered section of the eatery because of relentless rain. Â The food and service were good.
I returned this year to sample the food of the much lauded George Sabatino formerly of Stateside restaurant on East Passyunk Avenue. Stateside was my favorite Philadelphia restaurant until George retreated to MP. I was eager to experience his version of "Foodie Picnic Menu".
I was invited to seat where I pleased. I sat in the uncovered section overlooking a multitude of boats moored in the Delaware River. It was a pleasant but cloudy day. I reviewed the menus that were placed in a small galvanized bucket with napkins and condiments. I waited longer than expected but was finally greeted by a server. I ordered a Long Island iced tea and a  BBQ pulled chicken sandwich with a side of cucumber salad for $ 8.00.  The cucumber salad was delicious. The pulled chicken unfortunately, was merely satisfactory. The BBQ sauce lacked the traditional "punch". The "beverage" was well-made and refreshing.  I was beginning to indulge in another swig when as last year, rain forced my retreat to the covered bar.
While seated at the bar, I ordered a second Long Island iced tea from the bar tender. I continued eating the sandwich but wondered why the drink took an inordinate amount of time to be delivered. As I turned to my left, I noticed that the bartender was conversing with a bar patrons. He delivered the drink after several minutes. He apologized for his delay.
MP is best suited for patrons interested in a "relaxed" atmosphere. Based on on several posters of upcoming bands and varied entertainment it appears that Morgan's Pier focus is nighttime clientele.
The food and service were better last year. This year the service and most notably, the food suffered. I was much more disappointed in the chicken sandwich and exited doubting a George Sabatino influence.
Had the perfect opportunity today to finally get here. We had an all vegan menu meal & it was very enjoyable. Ordered the All kinds of Carrot's salad (very good, but over dressed), the bay eggplant w/ spicy cabbage (excellent) & the pulled mushroom bbcue sandwich (excellent). Alcohol free meal today, just nice cold ice water - refilled regularly.
We sat in the secondary bar area and enjoyed the nice steady river breeze while watching the Phillies fall apart in Milwaukee. The menu and chef are definitely a step above the old Rock Lobster that was here for a good 10ish + years?
The place was doing a brisk business - but not too crowded. Service was good - our server Pauline was attentive, pleasant and helpful. Need to go back on a night with live music.
you can't beat the atmosphere for catching a casual drink on a summer day. Â the views on the water are unmatched. Â the food itself is kinda just okay. Â not what i expected with all the hype about the new staff in the kitchen. Â it's a bit pricey i might add. Â otherwise, i'd like to give them an A-plus on their service because our server was very quick, friendly, attentive and professional. Â i really wasn't expecting that kind of service from a beer garden.
Review Source:It was a beautiful Tuesday, sun shining all bright. I said to my girlfriend, "hey, lets go to  Morgan's Pier" she's from NY so just wanted to take her some place to show off Philly. Going to Morgan's pier was a MISTAKE! First we walk in and we were not greeted. I actually had to flag down a bust boy to get a waitress. Finally she comes over barely says hi, doesn't introduce herself or anything. We mostly hear her saying "I'm sorry" three of four times out of the course of the meal. I ordered BBQ ribs which we flaming hot and she offered to change the food but there wasn't anything else on the menu i found appealing. So she watched me scrap the remaining sauce off my ribs and apologized again. As for the drinks: the Mojito's i ordered were watery and didn't give any buzz whats so ever! uh waste of time! We then went to the bathroom to wash our hands, there was the only pleasant experience, Backwards huh? On our way out, the customer service was still so weak (not paying attention to the surroundings) that we actually could have just walked out, but chose to do the right thing and went back to our table. There we waited 7 mins until Tara walked over after following us into the bathroom to ask us did we need anything else? I said the check. And you can stand right here for it. She rudely began a conversation with someone else, so i threw the check on the table and walked out. Now do u think she got a tip? all but 8 cents! and I'm normally a BIG tipper. Not that day and ill never be going there again! And if you do go and you get Tara, ask for someone else!
Review Source:This was my very first time here at Morgan's Pier.  What I loved most about the place that it is outside, and right by the water front.  Also what I found interesting is that they didn't just have that center bar location, they also had various bar taps at various locations.  Though it was  very difficult to find a spot to sit down  but it was a beautiful Saturday that night so that did not bother me at all.  I loved that they had a hot dog stand and ice cream stand on there as well.  Drink prices were OK at most depending on what you get.  The music was very appealing to my taste and had overall good vibes.  I look forward to coming back to Morgan's Pier in the near future.
Review Source:I have to say it  took far longer to make it over here than I thought it would but finally made it, and before the Teo Leo show coming up there which I wasn't expecting. If you're looking for outdoor seating for a period of time, and want the amazing view that comes along this may be where you want to plant yourself.
The food was average but they have a few interesting apps that are worth checking out like the Blistered Shishito Peppers that come with a runny but delicious Dill Ranch. Â We had a great bar tender that was more than proactive with refills on even our water, never a bad thing.
That being said no one is going here for the food or drinks anyway, it's the seating. Which is pretty perfect.
Stopped by Morgan's Pier on Memorial Day with my family for some food and drinks. As a long time fan of George Sabatino, I was excited to see what he had planned for Morgan's Pier, and I was not disappointed! There were 5 of us so we decided to order a bunch of plates for the table to split. Cheesy kale croquettes were ridiculously flavorful and delicious. We also got the whole roasted Branzino that was just as delicious as it looked. Added bonus: No bones! It made it a lot simpler for the table to split. Another big surprise was the shrimp cocktail. Yeah I know what you're thinking, shrimp cocktail? The shrimp was really fresh and the Miso mustard that came with it was out of this world. We also ordered the BBQ sampler:Ribs, porkbelly, rabbit rillettes, home made sausage and vegan baked beans. The sausage and baked beans definitely were the favorite among the table. We obviously ordered a lot more food but I was enjoying one too many Watermelon Ricky's and things started to get a little blurry. One thing I do remember though was that our server was awesome! I think her name was Amanda? She was super attentive with checking on our table, clearing our plates to make room for more food, and making sure none of us had a dry drink! I will absolutely be back to Morgan's Pier and can't wait to try more of the menu!
Review Source:I'm really torn over this review. I want to say lots of positive things, but most of that goes towards the ambiance. You really can't beat this view. Everyone is so hyped up that George Sabatino is here, and I don't mean to be hard on the guy, but it's not just food that I'm droooling over.
I ordered the cheeseburger and my friend ordered the bacon sandwich. The cheeseburger was fine, but if I'm going to pay that much, I'd rather go to Shake Shack. And it's still a pet peeve of mine when they don't come with fries and you have to pay extra. Though I am a fan of pickled veggies, which all the sandwiches here come with. My friend's bacon sandwich was very dry. The bread definitely needed more than some residual fat and swipe of mustard. It needs a sauce. I tried to use the aioli from the fries but it still didn't quite do the trick. The Really Good Fries are not as good as advertised. They're overly salty and the aioli is not spicy.
To drink, I got a Dark and Stormy which was fine (but it's not a complicated drink). My friend stuck to beer. On warmer days, I want to try a Watermelon Ricky to see if it's all the rave. I do quite enjoy the 21st Amendment beer on its own.
I'm not opposed to trying other things on the menu. I know I'll be back because I love the patio so much. I think I'll splurge on the Dining Menu because someone ordered the whole fish and it looked delicious as it passed us.
Bring cash because if their computers go down, they will just make you wait forever. Crap service. Good place to drink outdoors. Great view. Get there early before the line starts getting bad. Plenty of taxis. $5 cover. Little  food carts. Kitchen closes earlier than expected.
Last Friday night their computerized registers went down. You could not close your tab out nor did they give you any useful information. Waited an hour! And then choose to leave. Did they refund me my cover? NO. Offer an explanation or manager? NO. They did offer me a drink, but I'd rather leave with my card!!! I had to leave the place and go out of my way to pick up my credit card the next day. Absolutely outrageous, customer service does not exist here.
Bring cash. Or expect a hassle.
Came here on Thursday night with tons and tons of friends for my Masters graduation party. Â Coincidently, RJD2 was playing too. Â Fortunatly, we came early! Â Some of my friends were already sitting at a table, so we all piled in, and ended up taking up 2 tables. Â Service is spotty, but the views just can't be beat! Â We had a great time, enjoyed the music, and just went to the bar when we couldn't find a waitress (our waitress... any waitress). Â The night ended a bit sour though- as our party dwindled, our waitress (who we hadn't seen... and had been looking for for quite some time) asked us to leave our table since we weren't buying anything (not for lack of trying) so that she could seat some of her friends at the table. Â By then it was late, we had drank a lot, and we were tired, but it was pretty impolite given our honest effort. Â
Every time I come here, I find the food to be decent, the beers to be awesome, and the prices to be reasonable. Â The service is the consistant nail in the tire... but the views keep me coming back for more. Â It's just the best spot to hang out and get some fresh air and gorgeous views. Â
Just avoid it like the plague on the weekend nights as it turns into a legit nightclub... unless you're into that sort of thing!
You know when your parents used to say, "Im not mad, Im just disappointed"? Â That's the way I felt about this place. Â So much potential, so little substance. Â When pulling up to this place on a Friday night I said out loud, "A smoke machine? Â Oh no." Â Had to pay cover to listen to house music...which no one was dancing to. Â The only entertainment for the night was watching confused hipsters trickle out.
Overall, its obvious the owners care more about packing as many people in as possible, not providing any substance at all. Â The bathrooms lines were outrageous and there were not enough bartenders. Â
I thought when this place opened they were going to try to change the scene on Columbus, not compete for douche and douchettes with Cavanaugh's. Â Too bad I guess.
Laddddiesssss: it was about 3:1 dudessssss.
I was here for the first time on Saturday afternoon. Â Since it was during the daytime, the club type atmosphere was not happening. Â My husband and I just had a beer and some wings and fries. Â The service was good, fairly attentive. Â The wings and fries were just ok, nothing special. Â The menu in general didn't have anything that looked terribly appealing to me. Â The atmosphere is nice though, and I can definitely see coming back here with a couple of friends on a summer night when there's a DJ.
Review Source:My favorite Philly summer bar. Great views, good beer selection, cheesy music.
I love outdoor bars, and Morgan's Pier is great. For a casual summer night, this is the spot. The music is usually cheesy as anything, and I love it. Grab and beer and sing and dance with friends. There's also a seating area with a pretty great view.
Can't wait to have a reunion when the weather gets warmer.
I loved this place! Great oudoor scene, great menu selection, love the atmosphere. As others have said, the service is a bit slow, but hopefully they will work that out as they are brand new and can tweak that aspect.
I would also suggest that they mix up the music during the day. I was there Sunday afternoon and the music was a bit loud / too "house music" -ish. I would recommend something more low key (oldies? classic rock?) for a Sunday afternoon, but I'm sure the other kind of music would be great for a Saturday night.
Overall great spot!
Dear Morgan's Pier,
When we first met, I was in love...well, I was in love with your atmosphere, music, and drinks and not in love with your food. Â But I came back to see you recently and things have changed. Â Why? Â I noticed that a few drinks were removed from the specialty drink menu...I can deal with that. Â What I can't deal with is that you took my Tennessee Lemonade and ruined it with some gross blackberry wheat ale. Â This breaks my heart. Â I've also noticed that fans of the cast of Jersey Shore have discovered you...I should have known that I couldn't keep you all to myself. Â It makes me sad when I come see you and spend the night weaving through stiletto heels and hair gel. Â But don't worry, I still like you despite all these changes.
Love, Rita
