First time at Mrs. Murphy today....seated immediately (around 6 pm on Sunday night); service was prompt. Â Good to excellent beer selection (it's a restaurant, not a bar!)...waiter was knowledgeable on the beer (that is, he agreed with my choice for Sarah) as well as on the menu. Â Both had the potato leek soup....excellent. Â Sarah had the stuffed trout...very good, while I had 1/2 slab on the ribs....not having any sides, while 'current' is a little distracting....$5 for potatoes is a little much...
But...all in all....a good spot / will be back.
We were killing time in the area at 5:10pm Saturday night. It was pretty busy even that early with two parties and many people eating dinner. We sat at the bar since we just wanted a drink before we had to head somewhere else.
It's a beautiful space with ornate woodwork and a fireplace and cool wall hangings. It was also very loud! There was three bartenders and one bus boy (or bar back) and the entire visit from ..... ordering, to getting the check, to paying took a long time and we had to hunt the staff down or wave at them. I think they were in a groove w their tasks behind the bar and talking to people. Or we were invisible. Not a big deal but a bit annoying considering how well staffed they were and that we were in a time crunch.
We peeked at the menu and I have to agree with Ms. Colleen C.'s review that many of the items are overpriced for what they are....$18.50 Shepherds Pie....in an Irish place up North? Isn't it beef bits, veggies, and mashed potatoes? $15.50 Fish and Chips...it's fried fish chunks (prolly haddock or cod) and French fries. That's just two examples. I'm sure they taste good but let's not get crazy or anything.
When we left I had to point out the half drunk pint of beer on a table next to the hostess stand in the foyer that had been there since we entered.
Giving it a 3 since I didn't try the food- yet!
(the website i think has been down for some time or not compatible w Apple. Nothing happens when I open it. Ugh. Not cool.)
I've been here a handful of times and always enjoy the experience. The food is good (I haven't had the ribs yet, but have heard they're fabulous) and the beer selection is good. Plus, I love the coziness of the bar and the friendly bartenders.
A big plus - they sometimes have live music, which is hard to find in such an intimate setting.
