Great pizza!!! The funny thing is that I lived in mt prospect my whole entire life and never tried this place. I just assumed it was this small dumpy place but finally a friend of ours told us to try it and thankfully we did. We also tried the ribs which were decent. Make sure to get an extra side of BBQ sauce. Also get the au gratin potatoes as a side. The garlic rolls are forgettable. I wouldn't bother ordering extra as you get one with your ribs. Love me some mugs!!!
Review Source:Terrible customer service here is what happened to me: Â BOB / EARNIE - at this location told me he could not help me with correcting my order... Bob told me that I would have to reach the owner at a separate number.. when I asked about more details.. as he offered none... He explained that was a separate phone number/separate location and would be dealt with separately. Â They simply delivered the wrong order to my home... Â I asked for scalloped potatoes and they delivered mashed potatoes with some cheddar cheese on top... Bob told me that was scalloped potatoes at his restaurant (Mugs Pizza & Ribs) - I told bob he was full of it.. completely. Â He told me I could not get a redelivery of anything else and that I was not entitled to a refund..... Now I tell Everyone on Facebook too! Â Good going Bob.. say hello to Earnie the owner who was unavailable... Ernie/Bon/ Â You've just lost at least $200 buck per month from us! Â Â ... and I say - KMA MF!!!
Review Source:I'll never order from this place EVER again! Â They sent me mashed potatoes tried to tell me that what they sent me is what they have always considered au gratin potatoes. Â Okay fair enough can I please order something else - will you take this back or take it off my bill or ? Â Answer: "No... that is what 'we' call au gratin and that's what you paid for." Â - After I got back up and sat back in my chair... I argued for a bit (just went down hill from there they didn't care - they got my money and there was nothing they were willing to do no substitutes, not replacements, to take it off the bill, nothing at all. ) So- I finally decided they got my five bucks for their awful tasting potatoes mashed/au gratin or otherwise.... but, they are not going to ever make another dime off of me again! Â The phone person was rude and unresponsive and their attitude totally upset me to the point they lost my business forever!
Review Source:SOOO HAPPY MUGS IS FINALLY OPEN AGAIN!!!!!! Didn't find out til 2 weeks after they had reopened, but boy did we jump on that! Ordered Mug's Monster with chicken, green pepper, feta cheese, onion and garlic and it was out of this world! Fiance ordered a Monster covered in meat and he enjoyed himself. Also got an order of mushrooms, which were awesome, and the Mug's Sampler. The Sampler is the reason why I'm only giving them 4 stars. The wings has no sauce on them which was a little bit of the downer. But the biggest kicker: THEY CHANGED THEIR CHICKEN FINGERS!!!!!!! I raved about these things, craved them, and would demolished them once they were in my grasp! They were crispy, golden, giant fingers and now they're just blah.... Just breaded chicken chicken... Yes its diappointing but it won't keep us from coming back!
Review Source:The pizza is good but not great. Â
The crust is inconsistent ( sometimes crisp and awesome, sometimes wet and soggy), The cheese is good, but the sauce is their downfall.  They have changed the sauce over the years, and continue to make it more  spicy.  Although some people may like it, I prefer a mild sauce pizza that you  can add spices to if you choose.
I live in the area and gave up on delivery a long time ago. As many people have stated,  the speed of delivery  and attitude of the delivery people is a problem.  Delivery of a cold pizza that has been sitting in a box for a long while is far from appetizing. Â
There are better choices for Ribs ( About a mile away, there is an Italian place in a strip mall on Kensington that has great Ribs).
Shut the front door!
No, open it... MUG's is coming with our order.
This place is no joke. They deliver. And when I say they deliver, I mean, THEY $%#@$% DELIVER!
Not only do they have awesome pizza both THIN AND FRIGGIN STUFFED pies, spectacular BBQ ribs, crispity-crunchety fried chicken, mountains of sauce-dripping rib tips, oceans of steaming buttery garlic rolls, and galaxies of other great shit...
BUT THEY REALLY DO DELIVER... a five mile radius... and they are open from 3pm to 3am... Dude... really. They have drivers standing by.
We had the pizza- thin- great.
We had the pizza- stuffed... GREAT.
We had the rib tips and broke our back's carrying that stuff from the door to the table... like 200 pounds of tips or so.
We had the chicken and ribs. The chicken has the lightest batter seasoned perfectly while the skin is crunchy and crispy. The meat falls off the bones. So tender and juicy and well flavored.
The ribs were succulent and savory. The smoke from the BBQ choked my tastebuds and smacked them in the face to say, WAKE THE FCUK UP! They fell off the bones, too. No knife or fork needed... unless your last name is To.
I had each of those for leftovers on their respective following days with equal tastiness and quality.
I will stand on my rooftop and sing the MUG's jingle... if there is one.
Without a doubt...the best BBQ ribs ever. Â Tender and succulent fall off the bone goodness. Â The barbecue sauce is delictable and the potatoes are to die for. Â This was a special dinner as my birthday was last night and we decided last minute to go for Mugs. Â What a right decision.
Plus they delivered in 20 minutes instead of 1 hour. Â Friendly delivery man too. Â
Will be going back real soon!
I'm scared to order from here now. I ordered delivery last night and I caught attitude from the delivery guy.
I order the pizza. 45 minutes later, my phone rings. I answer my phone and  in a very annoyed, stern, and authoritative voice he's like 'YEAH, THIS IS MUGS PIZZA, I'M IN THE ENTRY WAY." Immediately sensing the apparent impatience, I instinctively react by cowering and saying, "No problem I'll be right down!" (Side note--I live in a condo building)
So, I take the elevator down to the first floor. I walk out of the elevator and into the lobby of our condo building and look over to my left and see a giant of a man standing behind the locked glass door of the vestibule/entryway to the building. The man is huge, and somewhat older, probably early 60's. I open the door for him.
His first bellowing words to me are, "I buzzed your buzzer twice and I had to call your phone!" I instinctively again shrink back, trying to avoid any confrontation, FROM A GUY WHO'S DELIVERING MY PIZZA, NO DOUBT, and I say "Well yeah, the door buzzer rings my wife's phone."
What I was too shocked and frightened to say, was that I had given EXPLICIT instructions not more than 45 minutes earlier to the lady from Mug's Pizza who took my order over the phone. "Be sure to have the delivery guy CALL MY CELL PHONE when he pulls up, or else I won't know he's here because the front door buzzer rings my wife's cell phone." The woman took my order AND ASSURED ME that this would be no problem.
Another side note, I like to tip pizza delivery people $10. Reason being, I used to deliver pizzas, and I know what it feels like to be stiffed, and I know what it feels like to get a nice tip. My best memory is getting a $10 tip for delivering a small Domino's pizza. I know how good that felt, and I like to recreate that feeling in others, to spread the love. So, I give the $10, hoping he would lighten up... and the guy said "THANKS, HAVE A NICE NIGHT", still in a cold jerky tone--The nice tip didn't even phase him! Anyways, with a sour uneasy feeling, I take my pizza and go upstairs, replaying the crappy experience over in my mind.
Mug's Pizza is pretty decent, I like it. But with so many other pizza places around, why would I EVER order from them again, and hazard another experience like this?
And maybe the guy was having a bad night but I'm sorry, I'm not going to be spoken to like a child by some jerk old man pizza delivery guy because he didn't get the word on how to deliver my gosh darn pizza. Or then again, maybe he DID get the instructions but just forgot to call me because he's old and senile--I don't know. I DO KNOW that I'm not going to order from here again, because it's just too risky.
Good pizza but it seems that whenever I call to order, they're too busy and I get stuck on hold (and they don't seem to appreciate my business) so I end up calling someone else. If you're lucky enough to have someone take your call, it's pretty good pizza, but if you get put on hold indefinitely you might as well go somewhere else bacause they don't seem to need or want the business.
Review Source:We recently moved to Des Plaines and it took us a while to fine Mugs. We went through several other local pizza delivery joints and were disappointed. Once we tried the Mugs Monster pizza, we knew we had found the best za in Des Plaines. Good, fresh toppings, lots of cheese. People taking your order and delivering are very nice. We haven't yet tried anything other than pizza, but plan to use them to cater our next party, as the trays of pasta and chicken are pretty inexpensive for a large gathering.
Review Source:Pizza _ 4 stars
Fried mushrooms _ 4 stars
Delivery _ 2 stars
Alright, it was two in the morning so I gave them four stars because of my lateness on ordering. It did take a long time for the food and I don't think they were busy at that time...on a good note, all the food was very warm when I got it and clearly fresh!
Good pizza, I had only the thin crust, and it was delish - the Vinnie's Special.
Had all the ingredients and well cooked & neat too; crust is ok. Delivery was in the good within-the-hour timeframe. Tipped the guy well.
If I cannot have my usual Lou's or Goode & Fresh, then Mug's is the place for 'za - also, they open late too! Bonus points!
Also, they seem to have a good variety of other stuff: ribs I hear was good, and pasta is tasty too.
I recently moved to Des Plaines and asked my neighbor where I could get some good pizza. Â He handed me the menu and my love affair with their pizza began. Â It is one of the better pizzas I've had, and I'm Italian. Â
I have yet to try the fried chicken, but heard nothing but good things. Â I'm still working my way down their specialty pizza's.
as soon as i hear the word mugs my mouth begins to water. Â their rib tips are outstanding. Â i tried them for the first time years ago and i just can't move on. Â i'm sure their other items are just as delicious but it's rib tips for me. Â they are never greasy and they will roast them dry if you ask and put the sauce on the side and they're open late. Â try them, i promise you won't be disappointed!!! Â i always pick up so i can't comment on their delivery but i always see their cars around town so they must be prompt.
Review Source:Awesome take-out at a place you wouldn't expect! I'm a fan of the ribs and chicken. Their BBQ sauce is deliciously sweet, tangy with a little kick. All dinner orders are served with salad (get the creamy garlic dressing), fries, cole slaw and roll.
As far as the pizza--it's equally delicious. One time they delivered my pizza with the wrong veggies and when I called them, they immediately brought me over another pizza, no questions asked. Because their BBQ sauce and chicken is so good, I've ordered a BBQ chicken pizza and it was to die for! If you're ordering pizza, make sure to get yourself an order of wings or a piece of chicken on the side. You can thank me later!
They deliver late and it always tastes great! If it's a weekend or snow storm, expect to wait about an hour for delivery, even if you live close. There's a reason they're busy, the food is better than a lot of fine restaurants I've been to.
Their menus have 3 coupons on them:
$2.00 off Ribs or 18" pizza
$1.50 off large 16" pizza
$1.00 off medium 14" pizza
Just mention coupon when ordering or picking up as they don't make you tear it off.
The food here is unreal dudes... Seriously. Do yourself a favor and get the fried chicken. It is seriously the best fried chicken I've ever had. It tastes homemade and the breading is so flavorful... it is juicy and succulent and really just plain awesome. The chicken sandwich is also awesome... huge piece of chicken, lots of toppings. Yum yum! Manders approves!
Just don't get the coleslaw... it is tart and it tastes like it came out of a huge container: not fresh at all. Other than that, everything I have had from there is exceptionally good!
They deliver, which is awesome!
Yay Mugs!
Pizza - pretty good. Â Wings - battered & deep fried. Â In my opinion, wings should not be breaded or battered. Â Hot wing sauce is so-so. Â I'd give them a "C". Â
Now lets review my rib dinner: Â Mediocre garlic roll, chicken rice soup was bleh, ribs were crap. Â Really fatty with lots of hanging flesh. Â BBQ sauce is really good though. Â Probably won't eat there again.
Driving home from work one day, and I am so hungry. I see a sign that says, "Mug's Pizza and Ribs". Totally unplanned, I pull in to the lot of a fugli little strip mall. Nestled into the greyness of it all is a tiny-looking carry-out place. I debate quickly whether or not to try. Hunger says yes. Best decision ever, because when I pulled open the door of this mediocre-looking establishment, the most splendid aroma of ribs smoking and barbecue sauce and meat and cooking smells and pizza washed over my brain, through my nose, and around my (what?) private parts in such a tender way. I smiled a whole, big smile. May I just say that I have never had better ribs than the ones served at Mug's? The sauce is their own recipe, of course, and it is a good idea to ask for a little bit extra. When I got home, I put a rib in my mouth, and I'm not usually that fond of eating meat because of toughness, flavor, etc, but that rib, with it's tangy sauce and it's tender nibbles of meat made me feel ready to put away the whole slab.  Eating ribs makes me daydream of cavewomen and cavemen, and I cheerfully sucked every last morsel of nutrition from the bone of that rib and moved on to the next one. I also thought fondly of the man behind the counter, for no apparent reason other than the entire  experience of best ribs  and sauce ever and being a cavewoman. The other great -tasting food that I picked up that day was the au gratin potatoes, which are made in the restaurant as well. Tender potatoes with just the right amount of seasoning and real cheese. Yum. Since that day, I have never been disappointed with anything else I have tried from Mug's; their sandwiches, their pizza, their gyros are deelish. Gentlemen, keep up the good work! You are obviously doing everything right.
Review Source:Looks like a little grease pit in a wall and it is :) but it's tasty.
The ribs are pretty up to par with some of the straight up BBQ joints
around town, and the pizza is awesome. I suggest the roast beef on it.
They don't have the craziest selection of ingredients but you still
can get some weird stuff like roast beef. I hear that the giardinara
is wayyyyyy too hot to the point where you can't even enjoy the
flavors on this particular pizza but I'd probably still be tempted to
try it if they did it sparingly. It reminds me of this pizza place in
Zion, IL that I really wish I remembered the name of. But yes, the
thin crust here is really great. And usually I'm a deep dish kinda
flying spaghetti monster.
Oh Mug's my love.
What would us night shift nurses do without you? You are open till 3am and you always deliver our greasy goodness right to the ER entrance of the hospital.
MMMmm. We call and we dont even have to give you our address or number, because you know us so well.
Another Jenn special (as my co-workers call it) is a cheese pizza with green peppers, onions, tomatoes, and garlic (sometimes with sausage) yum!
Mug's also had an array of other delicious greasy goods: cheesy garlic bread, mozz sticks, and ive enjoyed the tiramisu - even though its pre-packaged and frozen. I was a little dissapointed about the fact that it wasnt homemade.
Never actually been in this place, but it will continue to be a work favorite for delivery.
