We always make stop here for a few drinks when we're in VA Beach.  The service and drinks are great.  The atmosphere is fun.  We enjoy the outside bar. One block from the beach!  You can't go wrong.

Perfect simple food that tastes great. Service was friendly and accommodating to our large group. Not the largest selection of whisky, but larger than most. Seems to be a local hang out, so get there early or prepare to wait for a seat.

Bleh. Go for the beer and bands... save your money and stay away from the so-so food.

Great food! I had the Irish Reuben, which was fantastic.

It's a bar.  I get it.  You expect a sticky floor coated with I-don't-really-want-to-know-what.  But not so badly that you almost trip because you take a step and your foot literally gets stuck to the floor!  Other that that, the atmosphere was pretty fun.

This is my go-to food, friends and fun place at the oceanfront in Virginia Beach.  I had, on different occasions, the fish and chips, a cheeseburger, and for brunch a breakfast burrito.  All very good.  My friend had a tuna sandwich and for brunch a quiche - she wasn't impressed.  I told her it was an Irish pub, what was she thinking ordering a quiche?  Both of us did, however, find that the kitchen tends to overcook stuff, so if you want a medium burger order it medium rare.  Seriously.

The staff was great, the space itself is large but very intimate, very good disabled access.  Overall a great place that I highly recommend to chill out and get out of the sun.  Oh, and the fireplace in the winter is awesome~!

The brunch is really good Sunday mornings. I really like everything about Murphy's. Planning to be a regular, just wish I lived closer, but this is worth the trip out to the beach for me once in a while. One of the few pubs where one may receive a properly poured pint of Guinness.

Fun little irish bar with live music close to the oceanfront. I have never eaten food from here but I have drank people of beer! If you are looking for a fun atmosphere to spend your Friday or Saturday night you can't go wrong by going here. I'm guessing the drinks are cheaper than other places that are nearby.

I ordered the corn beef and cabbage, which for ten dollars was a pretty good deal for the generous helpings I received. The plate came out with half a head of cabbage, enormous carrot slices and four or five red potatoes. I had to dig through the portions to find the corned beef, which was sadly meager in size compared to the rest of the dish.

The food itself was just okay. The cabbage was probably my favorite, which I ate on top of two slices of their homemade bread slathered in butter. The corned beef was acceptable and worth eating again.

All in all Murphy's is a place I would recommend to everyone visiting Virginia Beach that is tired of oyster bars and sea food served overpriced on the beach front. The food is even better for the exhausted traveler that's starting to feel their wallet get a little tight. Thirteen dollars is a steal for all you can drink sweetened iced tea and a hearty meal that leaves enough leftovers for tonight's dinner.

Came here to ring in the New Years since we were staying on the beachfront and it was walking distance - concierge recommended it. It was $45 for a four course meal, party favors, champagne toast and live music.  My friend and I had the spinach, tomato and crab stuffed Rockfish with Hollandaise sauce and wild rice.  We both loved it! Cooked just right! (Though they probably should have advertised it without the crab because I don't think I had any in it. Which was no consequence to me since it was a generous helping and was delicious. Even though crab is one of my favorite foods-so yes, it was pretty tasty to make me not miss the crab!) The asparagus was a bit crunchy, could have been cooked longer and the wild rice was just that. My boyfriend and my friend's husband had the beef tenderloin with Sauce Robert and garlic mashed potatoes. His review was that they cooked it too long and it was too salty. But they both wiped their plates clean (though they are both navy men, so that doesnt say much). Staff was friendly, environment was festive, band rocked, bathrooms were clean..and great to be walking distance to my hotel.
Was it worth the $45 we paid for the meal & champagne toast (because all other things were free to everyone else regardless if they paid for the dinner)...no. They didn't have enough party favors for my group of 4 (and if you're reserving a table as well as paying the meal, you should definitely give each person an entire SET of party favors including noisemakers in my opinion), the "champagne" (sparkling wine) was in little plastic champagne glasses with probably 2 gulps of champagne in them, and we could have chosen something else to eat at less expensive. There were more people in the pub NOT having the special dinner than there were having it. Had I known you could do that, I would have just ordered something else. All in all, it was a fun time - people were in a good mood - staff was nice. I'd go there again.

I used to love this place. The last few times my Ruben was cold! Sent it back fries were burnt! The waitress seemed bothered when my husband had asked her about the oysters that had shells in them! We will not be going back!

Pretty standard Irish pub. Food was decently-prized, and very average. Loud live music going on inside, but the outdoor patio is very relaxed and laid back. Drinks are very fairly priced, and bartenders friendly and attentive. Food served late into the night, and good spot to get a few drinks or shots near the end of the night. Varied crowd ranging from mid-20s to mid 40s

My husband and I stopped in here for a bite to eat. I had the rueben and he had a Murphy burger. The food was just okay and nothing special. I do enjoy the potato fries since they are clearly fresh. My husband's burger was ordered med/rare and it came back close to well done. Uggh but that is life. The beer here seemed watered down too. But the service was fast and it had a nice atmosphere.

Sunday brunch! This is the place to be for Sunday brunch, mostly if you'd like to eat something delicious and continue drinking from the night before. They have a fairly cheap menu for Sundays, choose one for $9, first mimosa free and each mimosa after that is .50 cents. I however usually get on of the chalkboard specials  - a $13 very crab filled omelette with the same wonderful mimosa rule applying.  This place is wonderful.

Decent sports bar close to our hotel.... plenty of big screens and good customer service. I had the drunken clams and clam chowder, both were good. The chowder was spicy and broth-based, vs. cream or tomato. Typical bar/ fried food and smaller menu, but not bad to grab a beer and watch the game.

Loved this place at first, but now I have changed my mind.  We went there just for drinks with friends.  We ordered Irish Car Bombs and the bartender ran out of shot glasses and instead of getting them from the other bar, put our shots in dipping cups, it was awful the shot got stuck.  Next tried to order a drink with Southern Comfort in it and he said he didn't want to go get it from the main bar to choose something else.  We always spend a lot of money there and this was the worse service ever with the laziest bartender ever and he was just stressed and grouchy and it wasn't even busy at the back bar where he was at.  The week before that we went and tried to get Irish Car Bombs since they are an Irish Pub and their guiness draft wasn't working and they didn't have it in bottles.

Ok, came here for dinner out with my mom. God ID'd at the door lol. But whatever, just wanted something to eat and this was close to our hotel. We ordered poatoe skins and chicken fingers, something light. It took forever to come out, and there was only one other table eating lol. And to top it off, it was awful! It seemed like I always bit a huge chunk of fat everytime. The cheese was cold but melted on the potatoes. Uggh. And, our waitor was MIA the whole time. We had to flag him down for our bill. Sheesh. I would definitely not go back. And, there was a major flood in the bathroom, and some workers were cleaning it up but actively cursing out loud about it. How appropriate lol

Came here on a cold day. They have a huge wood burning fireplace inside, warmed me  up real quick, and after a few beverages, I had forgotten all about the icy weather outside.

I was in town on business and was looking for simple food. Shared some tuna bites as an appie and they were great. Rockfish was a special. It was prepared simply but tasted good. Had a glass of good beer and left with a smile on my face!

Some of us were here on multiple visits over a recent weekend.  We came here because the beer and booze at the Hilton was priced at a point to limit consumption based upon available funds.  The beer and booze were OK.  Nothing extraordinarily good or bad.  The food and service were average at best.  Whoever thinks this is what an Irish pub should be has never been in a good Irish pub.  Limited menu selection with just average preparation/quality.  And it takes forever to get a damn slice of raw onion to put on your sandwich!

EXACTLY what an Irish Pub should be!

I am Sicilan and French Canadian, but my soul is never more at ease than in an Irish Pub. This place is a ton of fun. Live entertainment, plenty of beer, great bar food, and clean bathrooms - hey, I'm jus' sayin'...

Murphy's has it's own parking lot, and is close enough to the beach to be an easy walk.

The one thing you should be aware of though is that the inside of the restaurant can be extremely, EXTREMELY loud. Between the music, the people, and just general bar noise, it can be deafening. The outside patio is great if you want the experience without the noise.

didn't eat anything just had a few beers with a colleague but bartenders were prompt and friendly and the place had  a nice atmosphere.  Irish music in the background.  We even learned something.  My colleague asked bartender for superglue for her busted high heel and was told that they don't have it because the cooks use it to bind their cuts while working.

We stop here every time we go to the beach! Its great good and great people! The wait service was a little slow but, you're at the beach, what is the hurry! The food was worth the wait! The Reuben sandwich is amazing, the fish and chips were great, everyone was happy at the table!

The best part of this place was a bartender named Al. I'm not much of a beer drinker and was tired of my vodka tonics so I asked him to make me something fancy. Now, anywhere else you would probably get a dirty look but not here! Al made me the most delicious drink and was SO friendly and great! It felt like we had all been friends for years! I love this place! You should absolutely try this place, you will not be disappointed.

I went here late on a Saturday night with friends.  This place is BIG compared to most restaurants I've been to (they have indoor and outdoor seating) and it wasn't crowded at all, so pushing together tables and chairs wasn't a problem.  There was a two man band playing that was decent if you're into Irish music.

The food was eh.  I ordered the Irish stew, which tasted just like beef stew.  I didn't like how the potatoes and carrots were gigantic sized and I had to cut each piece up in order for it to fit into my mouth.  There wasn't much meat either.  The Irish bread and butter was the highlight for me.

I also tried my friend's nachos.  Not a big fan since they seemed to use cheese sauce instead of the fresh stuff.  Service was really good!

I have stopped in here a few times while hanging down at the ocean front and every time was good. I never ordered food, just drink. They had good beer, ok prices and good company. I went in with my now ex wife the first time and we both loved the atmosphere. They had a nice fire going in the middle of the place and it was really cold out that day so it was nice. They had a guy playing some Irish folk on an acoustic and we also enjoyed that. The other times I went in I again had a good cold beer and experienced good company.

We stop in here at least once per trip out here. We got here around 6:30 on a Friday night & the place was packed & very loud. We had to park across the street, luckily public parking started @7.

They take reservations & there were several large parties here during this visit. We got the tuna bites appetizer, which were very good. They are blackened pieces of tuna steak & come with a lemon wedge & tarter sauce.

I ordered Irish Stew, which was good, although a wee bit salty & light on the meat. The carrots, potatoes & celery were in large slices. The soda bread was great.

Hubby ordered meat and potato pie. Very filling and full of flavor. Comes covered in a dark brown gravy adding even more flavor.

We'll definitely keep comin' here. Highly recommended. Great atmosphere.

I am a frequent business traveler, and normally travel alone.  I was visiting a client in Virginia Beach ( out of season) and was looking for a place to eat.  I was driving around up and down Pacific and Atlantic ave trying to find something that #1 open and #2 had people in it.  Because of the time of year most places where empty.

I saw this place and it welcomed me, looking like a nice Irish pub.  Went inside and sat myself at a spot right near the roaring fireplace. Ahhhh.  I am not a serious drinker, so i only ordered a bud light, but there was a selection of beers there to fit your fancy.

I ordered some nachos w/chicken and a broccoli and cheddar soup... they were ok.  There was a nice crowd sitting along the bar, watching golf on a nice sized TV.  The TV was muted, and their was Irish music playing in the background,  I dont think I realized how comfy i felt.

As i sat their more people showed up, and it was a nice mixture of locals, fishermen, and weary business travelers.

They had a corn beer and cabbage menu... I just hadn't tried it as I was exhaused .... and wanting a snack....

I was treated pretty good by my server..... seems like a great meeting place ......

it was overly priced for the service and food. we wanted to go, which took too long. the bartender took our order and didnt check up on our order til i asked him if the single burger was ready. it was a chicken with bacon sandwich with potato things. those were good. like thick chips. we brought in our starbucks teas and he was nice about saying how our drinks cant be on the counter so we held them and played photo hunt while waiting for the food. there was a waiter walking by and i asked him for a menu and he said to go to the bar for one, meanwhile he was holding one -_-

    This place is ehhhh....okay.

Came here while on vacation, and it was like a ghost town.  It was 11:00 at night, and there was basically no one there.  An entertaining band was playing, so that was fun, but other than that...nothing too special.

We sat outside and had a couple drinks (only wanted one, but someone bought us a round...so it turned into two).  At one point, a giant bug ran across the bar and into the ice.  At that moment, we hit the pavement in search of greener pastures.

It's a decent place, but not one that I would likely re-visit.

Murphy's is a pretty cool place, though it's more like a theme restaurant/bar than a true Irish pub. It's a good place to wind up at if you're at the beach and want something more laid back. In the evenings, there is live music and you can sit at the bar or at the tables and enjoy good drinks for a reasonable price.

I've only just had drinks at Murphy's, not food so I'm not sure what it would be like in the daytime. The restaurant space is divided a little, which means from some of the tables, you have no chance of viewing the stage or feeling like you are in on the action. Whenever I've been, the place is packed and the service manages the crowd well.

    Irish-ish.

They may call themselves a grand Irish pub, but just because you put up some Irish decorations does not make you Irish...

After eating nothing but seafood for a few days, I needed a break and something different.  I saw this Irish pub on one of my jaunts and popped in.  The place is good sized and it looks like it could get hopping - although it wasn't when I was there.

Beers - decent selection on tap but nothing earth shattering.  They had  Smithwicks so that worked for me.  The menu is a basic "Irish" pub menu and although I wanted a break from seafood, I ended up with crab cakes - don't hate me.  The crab cake was fine and the cottage fries were a bit overly oily.  The coleslaw had waaaay too much celery salt / seasoning in there though.

Beers were cold, the bartender was pretty good and it appears that they have live music a lot- since there was a semi-permanent music setup there.

    Parking lot on the side.

My main impression of Murphy's is the cigarrette smoke that choked us as soon as we entered.  There is no where you can sit and eat here where you are not exposed to it, so if you are particularly sensitive to this, beware!  We stopped in for an early dinner on a Saturday after being down at a beach festival with friends.  Football was on, and there are large TVs by the bar, so there was an enthusiastic crowd gathered to drink and watch (and hence the smoke).  The dining room was virtually empty.  Standard pub-fare... but I have high Irish Pub standards after visiting McGuire's Irish Pub in Pensacola many times.  I got the reuben sandwhich after being disappointed to find out that they were out of fried oysters (in season, no doubt) and it WAS yummy melty goodness on rich buttery toasted bread.  But cardboard probably would have also tasted wonderful after drinking wine for 2 hours and not eating much all day, haha.   My reuben came with round fries, very interesting.  My husband and friends got the fish and chips and they were just okay.  Not sure I'd willingly come back here to dine, but if our friends dragged us here again I would deal with it. :)

Only went in for a happy hour round or two - CHEAP! drinks!  Hooray!  Place was pretty busy and a band was setting up, this was Thursday night.  Walls are covered with memorabilia, there's a fireplace, seemed very working man relaxed at that time of day.

Went in right around 5pm on the merits of the menu. Having said that - in theory the menu is good - in execution it fails miserably.

Had a chicken sandwich with bacon and cheese - the Murphy it may have been called with cottage fries.

The chicken was about as moist as wooden light pole in a sandstorm. The cottage chips may have actually been aged under a cottage in the previous months. It was really a bad decision on my part. I'm still trying to figure out what left turn I made in life to lead me to this place.

Another 3 star.  If they did 1/2-star, I would probably give it to them.  They had a big screen old school tv, where if you sit on the side, you don't see it.  They were playing Ninja Warrior, which amused the audience.  Later, they decided to have a trivia game with the people in the restaurant/pub.  It was an exciting environment.

As for the food, I got the Murphy's Beef Stew which was tasty yet bland.  Does that make sense?  In certain parts of the bowl, there was a good taste.  Other parts, boring.  The stew was ok.  Nothing that blew me away.  Like I said, this place is ok.  This was my co-workers choice of venue, but I have no regrets.  He enjoyed his beer and fish'n chips.  The fish'n chips were huge though.  I guess I just wasn't that hungry.

Would I recommend this place?  Sure.  If you're looking for a fun environment, plus live music on certain nights, sure.  Go get it!
