Brisket....it felt like being in Texas for just a second...Stop it! Brisket Burritos....yes really (get it with sour cream....don't ask, just trust)....My +1 had a smoky burger that caused him to make a noise that would have sounded obscene but really just meant he loved it THAT MUCH!!! The owner, Nate, knows his burgers...when you need a Diner burger....caramelized onions, the patty done just right, a roasted chili on top....cannot go wrong! we are going back for sure!! For the ambiance, the kids menu, the shakes, the loaded nachos they told us about that we will be trying....the only thing wrong is that we didn't go sooner!!!
Review Source:My husband and I love Nate's Diner for lunch or dinner. Â The last time we visited, we both had the Chubby Check burger and fries. Â There is such a wide variety of menu choices I want to try them all in one sitting. Â I must add the prices are very reasonable for the quantity and quality of service received.
Review Source:The menu looks very good. Â This was my first visit so I asked the owner for a recommendation and he suggested any of the burgers. Â I chose the Aloha Burger and upgraded to 1/3 pound (normally 1/4 lb). Â Came with pineapple, sweet& spicy chili sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Â I liked it very much. Â Very tasty burger and the sweet pineapple and tangy chili sauce worked for me. Â I will definitely go back for lunch again and try something else.
Review Source:We went to Nate's. Â It is in the old "Maid Rite" burger location in Normal, IL. Â Actually I Â was prepared for it to be just ok but I was surprised. Â My wife had a Texas Burger (I tried some of the burger she ordered and I thought it was very good. Â I had the nachos...cheese, jalepenos, salsa and sour cream....these tasted good but not as great as the burger. Â I believe we will go back....next time I may get the Texas Burger
Review Source:Ate breakfast here on a Sunday. Food took far too long to prepare and the staff forgot several pieces of our orders, including coffee--we had to wait for them to brew a pot (at 12 p.m. on a Sunday).
Not a comfortable restaurant, atmosphere may be interesting to those who like nostalgic 1950s era decor.
The food was relatively cheap; a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit was approximately $2.79. Breakfast menu is extremely simple: Eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, hash browns. Nothing more.
All in all, would not recommend. Uncle Tom's or Denny's is two minutes north on Main and would've been worth the wait.
I've been in Nate's a couple of times since it opened and I love it. It has a nice small feel, the people are friendly and you're likely to have the owner or someone in his family wait on you.
I also think the food is excellent. First of all Sweet Potato Fries!, which aren't all that common around here. They're wonderful. I've had a couple sandwiches but their burgers are EXCELLENT. I hear lots of conversation about burgers, Meatheads etc...., but to me they're just burgers. Nate's is different. The burger had an excellent smoky taste and was topped with roasted peppers, which were great.
It's hard to give out 5 stars to anything; Nate's gets that rating from me because to find a good burger that was better than those you hear people buzzing about in such a little out of the way spot was so unexpected.
