The people are nice, and the food is good. The burgers and fries are delicious. However, they are slow. Even when there is no one there, it takes anywhere from 30-45 minutes to cook a burger. Either way, it's a burger joint. The bread is good, and the fries are nice and thick. My friend really like the pies. I wouldn't say it's a 50's diner, but more like a 70's or 80's diner.
Review Source:This was my first time in a Nation's EVER, and I have always avoided them for some reason - not sure why. I was SO pleased with this Nations that I will make sure to stop in the next time I'm in the area.
Didn't have a chance to try the pies, but the burgers were awesome. Fries were a little too greasy.
My BF, sis and me were out here in the Moraga area coming back to Oakland on a bike ride, when my sis says, "I need food now and I don't wanna eat this Power Bar." We see Nations, and normally I'm not thinking to get a hamburger in the middle of a bike ride, especially when we still have to climb back over the Oakland Hills. OK, I could always use some coffee......and maybe french fries! My only previous experience with Nations, was the store in El Cerritto with their super slow service. I swear, these people were moving in slow motion. Thankfully, this was not the case here. None of us ordered burgers, but we did get 3 orders of fries and I had my coffee. I was good to warm up a bit. The service was fine and we didn't wait too long for our orders. The fries tasted fresh and not twice fried like some places can be. Carbs and caffeine and we're ready to go! I would stop back in here for a burger and pie if I were in the area, not on a bike. Nation's makes a decent burger for the price.
Review Source:MMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm delicious burgers at a great price. Â Yes, they are GIANT! Â They come on fresh squishy buns with lots of lettuce and tomato and onion. Â Just discovered that you can ask for grilled onions for no extra charge -- the genius is asking for both fresh and grilled onions. Â Â These really are seriously great burgers. Â Fries are thickish, but crispy and hot.
Counter staff is usually nice, but staff must turn over often because they always seem new and somewhat confused. Â
Also love eating breakfast here. Â Nice basic eggs, meat, toast and hash brown, very reasonable.
Oh, and they have pie!
Living in Moraga *****
An awesome burger joint *****
We always enjoy our monthly "splurge" which consists of two bacon cheeseburgers with fries from Moraga's Nation's Giant Hamburgers. Â The service, like the quality of food, is always consistent. Â You simply can't find a better burger for the price. Â We love the small town feel of our local Nation's and look forward to our next visit.
4+
Nation's is one of the few hamburger places that I actually crave sometimes. Quality and tasty burger for under 5 bucks is a great deal. Their grilled cheese sandwiches, fries and pies are also very good. The only thing that I haven't liked there is their chili cheese fries. They use sliced cheese instead of the good gooey stuff. I had breakfast there once and it was okay too, but it's all about the burger when I come here.
Years and years ago, I used to dance behind Rheem theater and come here afterwards with my dance friends. We would snack on fries and share pies and giggle while our moms gossiped.
Today I came with two friends and ordered a chocolate shake while I waited. The shake was delicious and cold, and of perfect thickness. I seemed to taste a hint of malt powder. It was also very light and a delightful drink while I waited for my tardy pals.
We ordered cheeseburgers and sat down to wait. And wait and wait and wait. The food took about 25 minutes to come out, which is longer than I've ever had to wait. The food, when it arrived, was alright, nothing stellar. My burger was absurdly salty, my tomatoes mushy, and the onions far too abundant.
But I do love this place, and I believe this less than positive experience is a one time deal. The shakes are great, and the pies are really quite tasty.
My best friend and I use this place as a meeting point since we live 45 minutes apart, and it's deffinitely a chill environment! See, if people want their food in three minutes... Go to taco bell next door! nations has a great quality burger: lettuce, tomato, onions, dressing and mustard, and plenty of it! I've tried everything on the menu; yummy! This nations has super nice people too :) they'll do your every bidding with no atittude, even if you're a rude monster as I've seen here and there. Pies are to die for. Mistakes will be fixed on the spot, no questions asked. Also, watch the game nights for SMC or Campolindo...it gets crowded (and not a good time if you're not the teenager type). P.S. you can request a neopolitan shake! Thanks guys!
Review Source:Very good Hamburgers, they alway pack the burgers with a ton of vegtables - lettuce, onions, tomatos, add pickles. Â I am not sure I would order a plain burger. Â Love the bacon and cheese, or the Ole cheese burger - Green chile adds a ton of flavor. Â Fries are perfect thick cut nice and salty. Â Also have $1 soft serve ice cream cones - great bargain a lot of ice cream. Â
Good place for breakfast usually get the two egger. Â Great place to go when you don't want to tip and want a quick breakfast. Â Obviously not the best breakfast on the planet, but good value for the money.
Solid burgers and fries. Â You know pretty much what you're getting when you come in, but that doesn't get in the way of it being delicious. Â Bonus points for also being open on Memorial day when half of Moraga was closed. Â Been going here ever since I could remember - the ocasional burger, but most often during high school to pick up to-go orders of breakfast (mmm). Â Come to think of it, Nations is just a generally well rounded establishment because their pies are top-notch as well. Â Pick one up on the way to your next potluck - quick, easy and a guaranteed crowd pleaser
Review Source:My burger was pretty good but still not as good as Carl's Jr's six-dollar burger. Â Both costing about the same. Â The omelettes would be better if there was the option to add more, like adding some greens in addition to the meat and cheese. Â They come with hash brown and a lot of toast.
Review Source:Small for a Nations, with about 12 tables inside. Â Ample parking out front. Â A good burger, as always. Â Two slices of onions and tomatoes, just take one slice of each out. The dining area was a little on the dirty side, we had to bus and wipe off our own table. Â The decor looks dated and tired. Â It can get crowded here during lunch and on the weekends. Still better than going to McD's or BK.
Review Source:Nation's! You failed me. Came in yesterday afternoon and attempted to order the banana cream pie, of which I had been craving for weeks, and was DENIED because they were out! I was heartbroken. So I drowned my sorrows in the 2nd best pie, Chocolate cream, and a cheeseburger and fries. The burgers are pretty hefty and stuffed with onions, tomato and lettuce. I couldn't keep my burger intact as I ate it because it was so big and juicy and dripping with grease, tomato juice and mayo! (Too much mayo in my opinion.) My fingers smelled permanently like the burger after I finished my meal.
The pie was delicious, with a flaky crust, chocolate pudding and the best whipped cream I've ever had. My heart was set on banana cream though and since I don't live in the area, I'll have to dream about it until the next time I'm in town. Sigh.
This is one of the best semi-fast food burgers you'll find. Puts In-N-Out and Fatburger to shame. Their burgers are substantial, cooked right, and the meat is high quality. They do tend to go overboard on the mayo or onions sometimes, though I usually don't order those toppings. The milkshakes are really good too.
The only reason I don't rate them five stars is because they will always give you a weak amount of fries unless you complain. At this location in particular, the manager, Kathy, is a real beast about giving you only the bare minimum. They come in a tiny baggie, and even so, they usually only fill it loosely and barely to the top. So basically, every time I order food here, I have to bitch about it and the staff gets in a sour mood. (Yes, there are other Nations where they give you plenty of fries without needing to ask.)
The fries themselves are excellent.
You know, there was a time when we would have given this 3 stars. Â The past 3 times we have been in for breakfast or lunch, the service was unbelievable crappy. Â I think the manager is new(er). Â Tables are always-ALWAYS unbussed. Â If you're planning on eating here, bring disenfectant wipes and plan on cleaning your own table...waiting a good amount of time...and not getting good service. Â Really too bad too, we'll continue with Nations in Orinda. Â Although the food is the same, the service is wonderful -always has been.
Review Source:I personally love Nation's. I can't say their pies are very good (their whipped cream is especially disappointing), but their strawberry tart things are amazing!!
I'm not a big meat eater, so I usually grab their Garden Burger (with grilled onions--a must!). It's awesome. One of the best veggie burgers out there, if not THE best. And it's only $3 and some change! Very affordable. Their fries also make the trip worth while, especially when you get them right out of the fryer. My hubby always gets the hamburger and he loves them. I've tried the cheeseburger and it's one of the few meaty foods I can really, genuinely enjoy eating. I've also had their hot dogs (their Giant Dogs are especially delicious!) and their grilled cheese sandwiches are OUTSTANDING. They come with cheese, their special sauce, onions, tomatoes, etc. They're absolutely amazing. Really. Their BLT (bacon, lettuce, tomato) sandwiches are also incredible. I can honestly say I've never had anything disappointing at this place. Even their pies are good (just not amazing). A must try is their ice cream. I don't know how they do it, but their ice cream is SO milky and creamy and delicious. It's not just vanilla ice cream, it has this extra special Nation's kick to it. It's awesome. I love to get their vanilla shakes and come home and mix in some Bailey's Irish Cream into it and make the BEST Bailey's shake out there.
OH, and their breakfasts are equally delicious! If we're running late, we always run to Nation's and grab one of their breakfasts. Their french toast is outstanding as are their pancakes. Their hashbrowns are equally impressive and they serve eggs, ham, sausage, bacon, etc as well.
HIGHLY recommended.
Ah Nations Moraga, a fine establishment that I often visited while growing up in Moraga. For the most part, everything about Nation's has stayed the same, the food, the people, the atmosphere. I love it.
Nation's was one of the first hamburgers that i've ever had, my dad got it for me and it was huge! If I remember correctly, everything was perfect about the meal, the burger was top notch and the fries were phenomenal. I suggest Nations to anyone that is craving a good old fashioned hamburger.
Tips and Pointers:
-Hamburgers at Nation's are amazing and my personal favorite
-Breakfast at Nations comes a close second
-Parking is plentiful
-Prices are reasonable
-It's in my hometown so I have to give as much love as possible to it

Burgers are excellent and made with real, fresh ingredients.
You do need to be in the "mood" for a Nation's style burger. Â Very different than a restaurant burger, In-n-Out, or Georges, they're served with copious amounts of something resembling mayo but that I am convinced is a special sauce with a mayo base and requisite amounts of trans fats, cholesterol and a sweet punch to it.
So copious, that the burgers are big, messy and slippery. Â It's just part of the experience to pick up your Nations 1/3 pound burger and, when you squeeze the buns (heh), the contents literally squirt out the other side at whomever is sitting across from you.
Pies also are excellent.
-1 star for frequent boneheadedness on call-in/take-out orders; people call in so the food will be ready - don't wait to drop the fries into the grease until AFTER I get there, for chrissakes!
This is my favorite Hamburger joint....period!!!! Â Simple and carefully made with quality ingredients. I remember the days from College were I could drive down the street with my roommates and get a good quality meal here at Nation's. Their Pie's are pretty damn good too. You'll never have a bad experience here at Nation's...Never!!!
Review Source:The best Nations I ever ate at hands down. Â There was never a long line, never bad service and my food was always hot - fries crispy. Â This place was always full of families coming from a St. Mary's game, or families who lived in the small village town of Moraga, or a senior citizen couple having dinner. Â My husband and I used to live a block away from this place and frequented them quite a bit especially when I was pregnant with my daughter or after I did a couple loads of laundry at the wash house a few stores down. Â This place has great burgers, chili fries and of course pies. Â I'm really sad to hear that this Nations Giant Hamburgers suffered an electric fire. i'm sure when its rebuilt - it will be better than ever.
Review Source:I will love this place until the day I die. Forget In-n-Out, THIS is the place I miss when I go out of town. The burgers are big and messy and sloppy, but so flavorful and delicious. The fries are larger cut and are always steaming hot...
Actually, I'm gonna stop myself there. Same food that all Nation's have, but for some reason, it tastes SO much better at the Moraga location. Must be all the love the friendly owners add to it.
EDIT 2/18/07: I have terrible news! Apparently my beloved Nation's was the victim of an electric fire last weekend. Shed a few tears as they spend the next few months rebuilding it.
But then again, now you have a reason to go to Orinda: a somewhat subpar Nation's resides in the center of that "village" or whatever they're calling themselves these days.
