An otherwise 4 star review had to be docked because of annoyingly slow service when the bar wasn't even crowded.
A+ for having Brooklyn Brewing Sorachi Ale on tap.
Also, strawberry rhubarb ale? How seasonal.
They have a pretty good rotating draft list here, but service is at a snail pace and mixed drinks aren't very good - at least the rosemary-grapefruit martini. I'm a sucker for fresh grapefruit juice (which they claim is in the drink) but I'm assuming it was some from-concentrate Ocean Spray. I know, it's a beer garden but they tout an extensive specialty cocktail list that sucked me in before going for the brews.
Otherwise, as mentioned before, the beer list is pretty stellar and changes daily. Hard to find Jolly Pumpkin Oro De Calabaza in CT, ESPECIALLY on draft (don't think they distribute there) so it was a joy to drink it at the beer garden.
I'd come back if I wasn't in a rush for a dinner reservation and could just hang out and relax without the slow service getting me down.
I have to say overall, the food is good. However, last year we had an absolutely delicious, crispy, beer battered flounder fish & chips. Â We couldn't wait to come back this year and enjoy that dish again. we were so disappointed they changed the batter to the standard fish & chips batter that is available all over cape cod. Â Please change your fish & chips batter back to your unique crispy, crunchy, succulent, delicious beer batter!!!!
Review Source:Absolutely delicious meal. Everything was prepared well and I loved that it was all local, down to the ramps pureed underneath the arancini which served as a bed for a beautifully seared piece of skate wing. The beer selection is plentiful with lots of local options for those wanting to taste regional beers.
The only thing that would have made this better was the service. The servers put no effort in to making your meal enjoyable (except for one woman who came by to refill our water - she complimented our dish choices which our waitress did not!) The servers seem like they don't care about the customers or the food, but obviously the chefs do. So I suggest that you go and get the local cheese place, toss back a couple of beers, and just ride out the rocky service.
This place is decent...the food is okay. I enjoyed my goat cheese and blueberry salad immensely but my veggie panini was mediocre. Not the biggest selction of beers either for a beer garden but they do well on their harder alcohol cocktails. I had a dirty martini which was good and tried a mint julep..mainly because people seemed to enjoy it very much in Gone with the Wind...one of my favorite movies. They did a good job with it but I would not get one again...way too sweet. The outside seating is relaxing and inviting..this was the best part. They did make their own fries, freshly cut which were good...the coleslaw was dissapointing..way too much salt. Service could have been better, waitress wasn't very engaged and two servers were making out on the balcony...awkward. I would go here again but mainly for a quick drink and an appetizer.
Review Source:turning it down a notch as this summer's experience was not as stellar.
Mainly at issue is that they are not serving the specialty salads (spinach with pickled blueberries, etc) at dinner, only at lunch? what what?
Also the fish tacos, at least the other night, were just average. The wrappers were still nicely grilled and tasty, but light on the fish, and the previously magical pickled onion/sauce combo was pithy. And totally average service.
Plus it's a totally outdoor joint and it was COLD and they had nothing warming - no warm beverages, no blankets (Patio restaurant has these), no heaters.
I really enjoy this spot!
Their service can be hit or miss but the last few times I've gone, it's been great. Last summer they had a really gruff and spaced out waitress who looked like she was definitely on something that wasn't booze.
Overall, a great cozy outdoor spot with a great beer selection. The tables are very tight together and very very close to the bar so don't be that A$$ and make sure you push your chair in so the servers can get by.
A must? The IRISH NACHOS! Unnnnbelieveable and an incredible hangover cure.
Try it, you'll love this place!
If only it was in Providence and not Provincetown-- I'd be back there all the time (only cause P-Town is far away and summer is traffic-filled!) Â Probably the prettiest beer garden I've ever been too. Â Staff was very friendly and food was very good (we only got the very tasty cheese plate) but everyone raved about their food and everything I saw looked amazing and the menu was drool-worthy. Â Plus - probably the best small, yet well curated stocked bar I could ask for. Â You wait P-Town, Nor-East Beer Garden- we will be back! Â Just trust me- Go there!
Review Source:Update: I received a private message from the staff at this restaurant apologizing for the difficult time that I had. I have to give them kudos for taking the time to do so and for explaining what was going on. I definitely will check them out again the next time I am in P-Town, and will hopefully be served by a different staff member.
Review Source:Glad I went back. I gave this a not so great review after a few visits last summer and gave it another shot. I've gone a few times on this trip. The fish tacos are still really great. The service was great as well, especially by Will behind the bar. Good beer selection, and good atmosphere. Not sure if they banned smoking, but no one smoking on my visits was a big bonus.
Review Source:unquestionably the worst spot in ptown, nasty blond(male) bartender. nasty waiter named will. inconsistent food quality and unbearably long wait times for food. i have lived in town for 31 years and have never had so many awful experiences in one place before. yes i'm an idiot for returning after 3 yes 3 bad experiences but the atmosphere is so nice. it's a shame the food and service is so bad. major thumbs down! can't say enough to dissuade everyone from going here....
Review Source:I totally stumbled upon this place, which we ended up choosing due to it's interesting menu. Â SOOOO glad we did! Â We never got a table the first time, but happily sat at the bar and had wonderful service. Â The bartender was quick and attentive, and gave some great recommendations. Â
The first night we went (yes, we went back!), we shared the crab cakes which were delightful and fresh. We then shared the duck gnocchi (upon recommendation), and the scallops. Â Everything was fresh and delicious, and unlike too many american restaurants, the portions were reasonable... and by reasonable I mean not overwhelming! Â They had a lovely wine selection, so you don't just have to drink beer :)
We then returned for what was to be an afternoon snack, and ended up ordering the burger on a delicious portuguese roll, and the veggie burger (a quinoa burger).
Now my one very big complaint- the bathroom is horrible. Â It needs a good scrub. Â There is just the one shared bathroom, and it's just kind of gross.
Apart from that, a great find on commercial street that I would definitely go back to, on an empty bladder.
This place totally deserves 5 stars for the food, because its that amazing (fried pickles, fish n chips, burgers)
But the service is so horribly slow, disjointed and icky, I would give the service a zero.
In fact if the food weren't so good, I don't think we'd sit through a painful 2 hour seating, waiting almost half an hour before our order was taken (on 2 occasions)
I hear they are expanding, but what they really need to do before they expand is work out the kinks in their "service" because a bigger restaurant will only magnify their already sucky service problem.
I would plan on going about an hour to two hours before you plan on actually eating. And no, don't go there hungry. It'll only piss you off.
So I'm not sure if it was because its the end of the season or if the folks at the Beer Garden in Ptown think they have a captive audience, but my party of four was literally seated at a table, and then left for dead. It wasn't until we asked for menus (granted this was after having waited twenty minutes on their seating list) that the waitress we asked told us that we were seated at a table for two and not four. Much to our surprise. We pleaded with the waitress who resentfully sent the hostess over to try and talk us out of buying food. Seriously! Really?!
If it wasn't  for the fact that their food is good, I'd totally write them off.
Folks, get it together.
I'm a fan of Nor'east Beer garden. We make it to P-town at least once a year in the summer, and this is a for-sure stop on our vacations. Cute little outdoor patio in a really convenient place. Great beer selection. Food is pretty good. My only complaint is that the cheese plate is really small, and IMHO not worth the $. Definitely a fun afternoon stop though.
Review Source:Walked by this place several times & I can kick myself for not trying it sooner !!
Great service & WOW on food factor
We had the Green Curry Mussles , I could of just drank the sauce!!! We also had the Shellfisf Riosotto , fresh , flavorful & cooked to perfection . Also had steak special which was do tender . We had 2 drinks , App & 2 Meals for $89 !!!!
Dirt cheap for this town & well worth it .
This place will always be on our places to eat .
Slow but good, if I was in coma. This place could be so successful if the staff would be alert, and serve in a timely manner, bartender included.. We came minutes before shift change and we waited 20 minutes for each drink. the drinks were uneven in quality yet some were awesome (like the Raspberry Lime Gimlet) The food was good, especially the green curry mussels but the pork belly was chewy and too small, The Sage Inn makes the best pork belly ever.
The second waitress, that took over, was awesome, she was very responsive, offered good suggestions, as far as drinks, there was a house special drink called the Donkey Punch ( i think that's the name and that was yummy)
This is a nice little open air pub across from the mall. Unpretentious, laid back - no host. See an open table, have a seat.
We had salads. No, you may not order from the dinner menu at lunch. They get all kinds of huffy over that. But, the spinach salad was excellent. My margarita was even better. Noise level? Quiet! Eye candy on the street? Get me a dentist cuz my teeth are falling out!
This place is out of this world. I cannot believe the people are giving it less then 4 stars. True, the seating situation is disorganized. We had to chase down an employee for a menu and then again to ask where we should wait for a table but the food is unbelievable. I had a hamburger and my husband had the scallops which came with cauliflower puree and spinach salad. My hamburger was delicious. I also noticed half the restaurant ordering hamburgers. The hamburger is just really really good and they use grass fed beef. Â My husband's dish was amazing, presentation-wise and taste. It looked like something out of a fancy gourmet restaurant and was below $20. I also had a rhubarita which was a cocktail with rhubarb syrup and tequila. It was perfectly made. Â We also split the nor'easter salad which was great. The blue cheese dressing was not the typical white creamy one, and the salad had pickled zucchini. At least that is what I think. Our waitress was very nice. She said they only had once desert, a cheesecake which the owner's mother comes in and makes but they ran out. I love the place. It's rare that I can say I am interested to try everything on the menu but this is one of those cases. I forgot to mention this is a 'beer garden' I do not drink beer but they seemed to have a huge variety of it. I was also thinking that if there is a beer variety at a place, it signals to me that the food is mediocre, but not so with this place. Not at all.
Review Source:This is one of my FAVORITES !!! I come to Provincetown 3-4 days a week, and always Love returning to "THE BEER GARDEN". I have had the salads and the Burgers which are bot Amazing !!! My new Favorite on the menu is the Duck  Gnocchi  !!!!! Absolutely Delicious !!!! Staff is all pleasant and nice too.The vibe is completely chill and comfortable. Don't walk RUNNNNNN !
Review Source:We came here for lunch. Although the seating is outside, they are not dog friendly which is a shame since almost all other restaurants in Provincetown that have outside seating welcome well behaved dogs along their perimeter.
There was no menu or sign at the entrance so we didn't know if we were interested in their food offerings and/or if we should seat ourselves or wait for someone to come. Eventually I wandered inside and asked for a menu and a table.
The menu had a nice variety for both vegetarians and meat eaters. Elizabeth Anne had spinach salad and I had caesar salad and buffalo wings. The salad was good although I thought all the portions were VERY small. Our bill for these three items was 30.00.
The waitress was friendly but did not ask us if we wanted drinks or even water.
May be they just want you to drink beer and have food as a side note.
The positives: The location, decor and atmosphere is great. There is a beautiful arbor made of driftwood at the entrance and a continuous flowerbox runs the length of the patio and is filled with color. Market umbrellas overhang the tables and there is a long friendly bar.
I would return to drink beer and have a few appetizers but not for a meal.
We came here during the yelp p-town invasion of amusement and awesomeness. We filled out the bar at like, 12. Noon.
The staff responded, and fed us beer and appetizers until we found new shiny places to go.
The beer was cold and I never had to wait to get a fresh one. The food was tasty, and clearly both fresh, and freshly prepared. I will definitely return next time I invade p-town.
Pricey, but excellent.
I ended up getting the Fish Tacos, which were in of themselves quite good, a delicacy of fishiness and tacoiness that was quite good. Â
The beer selection was also quite good: Â I ended up getting a Kentucky bourbon ale, which was quite interesting: Â definitely a taste I hadn't had before in a beer. Â Â It was a little pricey, but that was to be expected. Â They also had a generally good selection of beers.
All of this, coupled with great service and a nice setup makes for an overall great time.
Came in on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and enjoyed several hours of great beer and company at the bar. Â They have around 10 beers on tap and a couple dozen different bottles. Â A really good selection of beers which you don't typically see around. Â The fish tacos and cole slaw were also great (see photos).
Review Source:We Yelp invaded and filled the bar at near opening. Â Not to be outdone; the staff rose to the occasion, and fed us and gave us wonderful beer. Â Many wonderful beers, which we liked, and sampled between us.
The food was wonderful. Â Everyone was commenting on it. Â We split the Scallops and Chives Fritters. Â Yum! Â Not greasy at all! Â I spied the Fried Haddock Sammich. Â If it tasted 1/4 as good as it looked- Wowzer!
I heard the Irish Nachos are grand. Â Me, I'm all about the beer, and the tap line is a wonderment to behold. Â I'm drooling at the thought of it.
So, Yes! to the Nor'East Beer Garden, and I hope you spawn many more in our Commonwealth! Â Like in Boston. Â Or, better yet; near me.
Until then, we are coming back, for sure!
The service was really good. Our waitress was awesome. The fries were really good. I think we will be back and I hope to upgrade it to four stars. Part of the problem was the bitchy vapid twinks that apparently work there and were mooching free food. The crab cakes were okay, they looked better than they tasted, sadly. They tapped the keg of the beer Jim wanted so he ended up with a different choice.
Review Source:A nice new discovery in Ptown.
Had an early dinner at the Beer Garden on a busy July Saturday night. Â Fortunately a table opened up just as we arrived - people were waiting much longer during our meal.
Tiny, tiny little outdoor space, but very nice atmosphere on a comfortable evening. I imagine it gets very hot here on hot nights since space is so tight and tables very very close together.
Food and drink were both excellent. I had a Clown Shoes amber that was dark, bittersweet and quite hoppy. Nice.
For dinner my companion and I shared the crab cakes. A very different take than we're used to but very nice. Â Rather than the typical greasy patties these were very herbal, light and fluffy. Unexpected but good.
We both got the night's special "Seared Scallops" which was very, very good. Scallops seared and served over a slice of grilled polenta, some shaved artichokes, some yummy saucy something and fresh blueberries. Very tasty, healthy and good.
It's a little bit of a hipster place, but very mixed crowd--skater types, families, straight couples, gay couples, singles...capacity is only 32 to there might be a wait.
Certainly worth a try, especially on nice night. Â I hope it lasts - Ptown needs come new, less touristy options.
** I Upped my star rating from 3-4, simply because the owner of the beer garden sent me a very concerned note about my visit. Â I think that says a lot about an establishment. Â I really, wanted to give this 4 the first time around as it is one of the coolest setups on all of Commercial Street.
Best beer selection in Provincetown. Â That being said, service could use some work. Â Sat for 15 mins with an empty glass, might have been that we were the only hetero couple at the bar...surrounded by Bears. Â Paid up and headed out. Â Their loss.
I've walked by this spot many times and finally tried it mid-week, but Yelpers, you steered us wrong! (or the five stars are bogus reviews from the owner's friends).
Nice wooden bar, nice gardens, but that was about it.
Fish tacos were disgusting mush served in overcooked tortillas that literally cracked in half when picking them up. Strong fishy taste, so you know what that means.
Wings were pre-cooked and refried or just plain dried-out overcooked.
Beer wasn't cold, nor were the glasses. Isn't this a beer garden?
The food was...as my daughter would say, "Ew, gross!" and that's what I kept thinking throughout the night...
I should have known better. I had a clue it was going to be a disaster when we sat at the bar and saw the plump kitchen helper (hopefully not the chef!) who parked herself on the stairs to the deck, smoking ciggy's and hacking a loud cough. Â "Ew, gross!"
Saw it from the street and it looked very inviting with an abundance of beautiful flowers, natural wood, umbrellas at every table and an interesting menu that appealed to everyone in our party. Â To start, I highly recommend the artichoke dip, served with yummy garlic bread and herbed homemade crackers. Â I had the fish tacos and they were fantastic, perfectly seasoned, served with a generous helping of tasty fries. Â I would have preferred less taco and more fish however. Â One taco with a generous helping of fish would have been better than two skimpy tacos . Â My friend had the corn and clam fritters which were a little disappointing because there wasn't a trace of clam in there that we could taste. Â I love the atmosphere so I will try it again soon and will order some different things to try.
Review Source:The outdoor patio is sweet, flowers line both sides, little tables with cafe umbrellas fill the space, nicely lit at night.
We stopped here twice, once for beers after food service had stopped for the evening, and once for lunch. Both visits were pleasant, relaxing, and hit the spot.
You order from a walk-up counter that is clearly marked, it's fairly clear that there is no table service. There is a great beer list. We tried two that were new to us, both tasty.
The fish tacos were fresh, slightly unusual with a toasted flour tortilla and pickled onions, but all tasty. The fries that came with them were perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with a nice sprinkling of coarse salt.
On both visits the music was great! We were singing along more than once to an ecclectic playlist and a quirky mix from the seventies through current.
WORST. BAR. IN. PTOWN. Every year a new place or two opens. Â They won't last - and shouldn't. This place is SO AWFUL with rude bartenders, a hypocritical bar menu, unsanitary conditions, and more.
They supposedly specialize in 'local' and 'environmental' and 'sustainable' food and drinks. Which of course means they "do" local fishing, protect Ptown environment, etc. We ordered a few beers and tried to get a tap water. Note: You can get tap water at ANY bar in Ptown; even any of the overpriced late-night clubs give you tap water. The horribly rude girl serving beer confused herself for The World's Most Important Person and, like she had a Hilton sister stuffed up her bum, said, "We don't DO tap water." Then she turned around and walked away - she didn't even give us our beer. She was of medium height, had curly but flattened dark hair and a bit of a horse face; clearly, she will soon be famous for serving beer...or, for NOT serving beer, as we witnessed repeatedly.
Does the company not want our money? On a Friday night, they were completely empty anyway. NO ONE is empty on Friday night in Ptown! Perhaps this was because when we eventually, finally, sat down, a giant rat crawled across the back of the hideous "garden." Helllooooooooo, health inspectors...?
So, I inquired with her again after ordering more beers, asking for tap water, assuming that she must wash her hands somewhere, and thus there must be a faucet somewhere. She said she licks them clean and tap water doesn't exist (??!!!?!?) - and she was serious. She then poured a few beers 1/2 to 3/4th of the way and then attempted overcharged us for them (as per management, I assume) - even though the menu was right next to us......!
Um. An Enviro-Friendly Co doesn't DO tap water? And has local food - WRONG. We stood there for a while after, flabbergast at the self-importance of the employees and the ludicrous menu items. Apparently, NONE of the food products they serve are sustainable OR environmental friendly. I'm seriously going back there to find out where they get their fish, veggies, etc. from so I can ask how they POSSIBLY think they're local and sustainable. Hypocrites. We stood there looking around the "garden," staring at the massive surplus of beer and water bottles, wondering how this place calls themselves Enviro-friendly. How much effort is it to get a few taps and a faucet, so that poor girl doesn't have to lick herself?
THIS is the new bar in Ptown. THIS is the people they have working there, the products they serve, and THEY'RE HUGE LIARS about the menu they're peddling.
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE for Commercial St., for Provincetown, and for the entire Cape. Needs to close = immediately.
New owners new ideas. Â At first glance this place shines as a fun small hip outdoor beer garden with a nice wooden deck and planters full of flowering place and a pretty healthy menu. Â My fish tacos were excellent and sitting outdoors in P'Town is even more excellent. I want small business to succeed and so I will still give it 4 stars, but they need to seriously work on customer service. I was not aware that the place had no table service until I was told that kind of abruptly. Â I watched as several other people were instructed in a similar manner. The woman behind the counter would do better to have a smile on her face and be a bit more welcoming. I will return to see how they are progressing. I also learned they would have table service next year after some city licensing went through.
