A long time bar of friendly regulars and bartenders! Great price on food and drinks too!
The moment you walk in you can tell this place has been here forever. From the decor and cluttered arrangement of things it shows history and memories only years of fun times can create. Dollar bill ceiling, random shelf of trophies, a white board with everyone's birthdays in the month. It's a homely feel that welcomes all.
Typical full bar set up with a decent selection of drafts, New Castle being my favorite! Bottled beer from your variety of domestics to the owners imported favorite Tsing Tao. They have more than enough for a picky beer drinker to choose from.
Typical bar food from personal sized pizza, taquitos, chilli cheese fries, jalapeño poppers, with wings topping the list in price at 7 dollars for a basket of seven. It's a nice variety of bar food. Although most seemed like frozen food that they heat up in an oven or microwave, I can't complain for how cheap and fair priced it is.
Lots of high top tables to sit at while enjoying your drinks and watching or participating in the event of the night which may be a pool tournament or karaoke just depending on the night you choose to go. Wed, Fri, Sat for karaoke. Sunday and Thursday for pool tournaments.
The crowd is very diverse in many ways, but everyone is friendly and the bartenders know how to keep everyone smiling. Outdoor patio in the back with some chairs for smokers and the entrance from the back parking lot. Some available parking in front of the front entrance on El Camino Real. 10 dollar credit card minimum, but they have an ATM machine available inside.
Great to come to with a group of friends or you can make friends with a group like I did with the welcoming crowd you will find here!
If you haven't been in to check out the Oasis, you're missing out on a good time! They have great; pool tables, darts, foosball & karaoke most nights, but the real appeal of this spot is the bartenders, especially AnG! she pours some of the best drinks around...strong & cheap, just the way I like em' with a great personality & just the right amount of sass to keep everyone having a great time, but still in line & if you're up it, you can challenge her to a game of pool!
Review Source:What makes this bar amazing and keeps me coming back every time, hands down, is because of that Nicole Link girl you have bar tending. Every drink she makes is mixed with the upmost superb of mixing skills. Always yummy and hits my drunk taste buds just right. And let's not even mention the way she pours my beer...oh my!! Let's just say all around, I wouldn't be coming to this bar if it wasn't for her.
Review Source:I'd looked at the Oasis with curiosity from afar as a kid while my parents got work on their cars a few establishments down. Â When I moved back to the area this year I was determined to check out what had always been an inviting mystery to me and it quickly became my home away from home. Â The cast of regulars is diverse and friendly and the conversation is always engaging--it's the type of place you can hang out at for hours and feel like only minutes have gone by. Â The drinks are strong, the beer is cheap, the atmosphere is welcoming: I've considerably upped my pool game and karaoke nights (Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, even Sunday now!) never get old with such an expansive song list and variety in people who participate. Â The bartenders here are great. Â Shannon is always willing to indulge my weirdness and cut up the fruit I bring to put into my PBRS (It's how you make beer sexy!) Â I never thought I'd feel such an affinity for a dive bar, but there is something special about The Oasis!
Review Source:Strong drinks. Â (Perhaps too strong... liver was not happy the next morning). Â Brisk service (both in speed and tone, actually - bartender took a while to warm up but after a couple of drinks had my next order up as soon as I set my empty on the bar). Awesome juke box. Pretty extensive karaoke song list. Â No problem bringing outside food in. Â Reasonably clean for a dive bar. Â I'm a fan.
Review Source:this place is ok, nothing special. could use a little sprucing up, but i guess it's part of their dive-y appeal? the karaoke setup and the sound isn't the greatest, but their selection of songs was really good. drink prices are reasonable. there was a fairly young crowd here the night i went, but from what i hear that is an anomaly.
Review Source:It's a good divey bar. Â Never really had any problems with creepers or weirdos here (like some other dive bars). Â We usually go here when we want to karaoke. Â Last time we went they had updated song books too, which was exciting. Â
Fun place to hang out and have some drinks. Â Nothing super special though.
Who could have known that Stephanie (the former Oasis bartender) was the glue that held this place together?
I guess I should have known it. She could mix several drinks at a time, down a shot, clean the bar top, and literally not lose a beat while all-the-while singing a Patsy Cline or Janis Joplin diddy. Well, Stephanie's literally off to a better place -- or at least a better station in life -- for no joke, she won the lottery, packed up, and headed back home to the Boston area. And, although I wish her well, The Oasis unfortunately suffers in her absence.
And so, an ode to Stephanie, in the spirit of some of my favorite other East Coast ladies (Rose, Dorothy, Blanche and Sofia):
"Thank You for Being a Bartender"
Thank you for being a bartender
Traveled over every road, you trusty New Englander
Your heart is true, you're a pal and a confidant
I'm not ashamed to say
I'm sad it won't always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow?
And if you threw a karaoke party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see, the biggest tip would be from me
and next to the signature line would say,
Thank you for being a bartender
Thank you for being a bartender
Thank you for being a bartender
Thank you for being a bartender
We patrons miss you and want you back
We'll pool together to buy you a ticket (JetBlue or Amtrak?)
Whatever you need, anytime of the day or night
I'm not ashamed to say
I'm sad it hasn't stayed this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow?
Now that you've won the lotto
And clearly left for better shores
Should we meet up again -- whether inside or out-of-doors,
I will stand real close and say,
Thank you for being a bartender
I like this place. I have been a good handful of times.
a great place to just go hang out, play pool and maybe karoke (even tho i dont...)
i miss steph alot, although the new bartender is ok.
still dont know her that well!
it is very dive! but i think its fun. i rather go and get a drink when i need one then wait for ever cuz there are 40 ppl hovering the bar.
Morphine shots are the best shots! they always make them perfect!
OK haters, this is -- hold your breath -- a DIVE BAR!!! Â This means you should not expect The Ritz, nor the most sophisticated of clientele to be in attendance. Â If that is what you want, you should go somewhere else, not just because The Oasis isn't for you, but because you're not for The Oasis. Â Snobs + Oasis = not a good time for anyone involved. Â
For those of us folk who are more laid-back and tolerant, The Oasis is a great choice! Â Wonderful bartenders, cheap drinks, clean bathrooms, karaoke with 6 million songs, pool, patio where you can sit at a table with your drink and smoke (huge plus if you have a smoker in your party/posse/midst). Â
For a dive bar on a Wednesday night (which is the night I usually go), it's a really good time. Â I can't imagine anyone but the most uptight and/or snobby person not enjoying The Oasis.
A friend became another year older..and this is where he decided to celebrate.
I arrived at about 11...parking is almost impossible...but that is fine as long as a place is good.
I am not saying the drinks were not good...in fact, the one drink I got was great...but it took 40 minutes to get it. I stood there at the bar, regulars being helped all around me and as the bartender sang karaoke (quite well in fact) ...and did her duties at the bar, I was just skipped...over and over.
It was frustrating. I finally did get my drink...but when it was done I decided it was so not worth trying to get another.
All in all...I had a great time...even the bathroom was clean...but when I am at a bar...I would like to have a drink..not just dream of one.
Sorry Oasis.
After growing up in Sunnyvale and living down the street for YEARS, I finally came in to The Oasis over Xmas week. Â I'd always wondered about this place.
Fun karaoke and a great bartender plus the people I was there with were awesome... Â Â but as I suspected all along, this fine establishment is a 'lil sketchier than I prefer. Â Can't say it'll have a regular spot on my dive rotation but I'm glad I went at least once.
Good for people watching and karaoke... Â Cash only.
The bartender when I went was cool, some of the patrons were nice. Â I got to enjoy watching karaoke and see some characters sing. Â Some skinhead redneck was looking at me and snickered, asking me if i like emo music. Not too sure exactly what he meant by this, but I'm pretty sure he meant to offend, so I informed him that his understanding of 'emo' was somewhat off. Â The bartender had to tell him, "Not tonight Jimbob," so perhaps it's just his job to harass non-regulars. Â My appearance would more aptly be described as 'homeless-chique' Â or maybe 'hobo couture'. Â
Besides that miserable douchebag, it was an ok place. Â On subsequent visits, I've always carried some type of handgun on my person, in case some white trash asshole wants to get fresh again. Â Future problems averted!
I had out of state visitors this weekend and we were staying at Wild Palms Hotel. We wandered over here on a whim and it must have been  fate! Fantastic people watching. The staff and crowd were very friendly. There seems to be a serious karaoke following here. Plenty of pool tables, foosball, etc.
Review Source:I've been to other dive bars and thus far no other bar really captures me like this one does.
This place has a lot of heart, I don't know how to describe it, but I just really love it here.
I feel totally out of place here and yet totally welcomed at the same time.
I have a good time just hanging out, singing karaoke, having a drink, and playing pool while waiting for my next song.
When I'm bored on a friday night, this seems to be where I keep ending up.
If you are a people watcher, you have to go to this bar. Â It's a menagerie of everyday people mixed in with Circus side Show exhibits. Â We've been coming here every since I got this virus called Karaoke. Â
The first time we came  here we met a Vampire, an outdated hippie chick with a Flower Dress on and a guy recovering from a stroke.  No, I'm not kidding this really happened.
Our friends came here to do some Karaoke but also just to kick back and enjoy the bar. It was relatively empty at the time and we took control of the Karaoke booth and did about 6 or 7 songs each. At that time.
Recently though!! Â It's been packed and busy. Busy enough that the police came by last night and asked for the DJ to keep down the music. Yeah a Karaoke Bar was getting noise complaints. Â
Still we brought about 20 of our friends last night and thought we were going to take over the bar. Â Little did we know that this place changed. Not in Ambiance, because it still looks the same, but in popularity.
The place had about 60-70 there last night doing Karaoke, playing pool and just socializing. Yeah everyone was talking to their friends and being Cliquish but here's who we saw.
We saw Gandolph's brother walking around. You can't help but notice him more over smell him coming by because he smells like Mary Jane and wearing his hillybilly hat and carrying a cane. Â He is basically a staple at that bar.
They're more characters there but this guy stands out. Â The rotation is getting longer though so I might not go there as often as I would like. I think I only got in 2 songs last night. Â Usually I can get in 4 to 5.
Home to the dirty glasses, cheap beer, and the tone deaf karaoke. Good times? Only if you don't mind smelling like an ashtray after you leave. Even though they don't allow smoking inside the building, the doors and windows were open that allowed the smoker's smoke in and collect in stale environment.
The odd thing about this place, was that when our group arrived, we were the youngest people in the bar. But when we left after 1am, we were the oldest group. Silly college kids!
At least it wasn't crowded on a Friday night.
Well here is my opinion about Oasis!.. for me it was one of my evening getaways !!! ...I prefer hanging in places where the crowd is homely and you can make friends with easily. If thats the place somebody is looking for .. Â then Oasis is the place is sunnyvale. I am a scotch lover and therefore have no interst in beers and other cocktails. I did find my share of Black label and Chivas and I am glad. Steff the bartender is an awesome girl and she used to take good care of me whenever I was there. She monitored my glass and made sure that my glass was never empty till such time I was there. The Karaoke nights are good and if you like singing, I can try ur vocal chords here. The patio is good and supposed to be a smokers heaven.
Review Source:Ummm...why isn't this bar in the darts league? Â After finishing league at The Patio, next door, I dragged everyone over to check the place out. Â It's very roomy, has lots of seating and they have other than standard beers on tap. Â The bartenderess was pleasant, plus, the chicken coop in the back is small but a good addition for thankful smokers. Â Everything was great except for the people doing coke in the bathroom. Â Is everyone trying to bring the 80's back?
Review Source:Oasis is my 2nd favorite dive bar in the South Bay/Peninsula (1st is The Nuthouse, review separately). Â Although I used to go at least once a week a few years back, I can only make it once every couple of months these days. Â Jerry (the proprietor) and Patti (the bartender until 6PM or so most days) always remember us and seem genuinely glad to see us. Â
We usually just stick to beer (about 15 selections by the bottle, plus the relatively recent addition of 4-5 brews on draft), but occasionally indulge in the rather strong (and cheap) drinks. Â Steph, the bartender who takes over after 6PM, is loud and friendly, in the bust-your-balls kind of way.
There are a number of entertainment options available here: TVs tuned to sports, pool tables (bar sized in the front, regulation sized in the back), darts, video games and an awesome Internet jukebox. Â I have spent countless amounts of money on this thing, which, in addition to the 100+ CDs worth of music stored on the local hard drive, allows you to download tracks from a collection of 50,000+ online. Â My favorite pastime is put together totally esoteric playlists and see who gets annoyed. Â Nothing like a 25 minute excursion through free form jazz by Coltrane, followed by, say, the Sex Pistols.
The clientele is equally entertaining, with many regulars who probably have very interesting stories. Â Wednesday's feature karaoke, which I have participated in once or twice.
This bar is a lot of fun! We are there at least 3 weeks out of the month. We are Karaoke junkies! My girlfriend and I have no problems with anyone in this bar newcomers and regulars alike, despite being a woman with a woman relatioship. They are very accepting of all types of people from your old fart (who is a dirty old man but you can't help to laugh at because he really means no harm), to your fresh out of college kid bouncing around like a social butterfly. Â Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights is Karaoke!
While I think they have a pool league also I am not sure what nights they play! Go Sing be marry and all will be good! See you there!
"Let's get out of here and grab a REAL drink ...."
That was the last thing that was uttered as we exited the Elephant Bar. Â Somehow, that "real drink" brought us to The Oasis.
If you looked up "dive bar" in the dictionary you'd probably see a pic of this place with Scrappy inside pounding drinks and checking out the ladies. Â Who is Scrappy you ask? Â Scrappy would be the 80 year old dude that thought he was going to get lucky with this chica. Â Good god. Â Not one of the more proud moments in my life. Â
Bartender was super friendly and they even had food options!  Special of the night was Corned  Beef on Rye for $3 .... and the second one was free!  Clientele was all male (and all age ranges) except for myself and two other girls at the bar. Â
Two shots (each!) of Cazadores (chilled) and 5 $10 raffle tickets later, it was time to leave The Oasis. Â Â
Parking is bad, but I'd come back. Â Dive bars rock.
An oasis is a watering hole where all sorts of beasts come to drink. Since the crowd in here is so random the name Oasis totally fits this dive.
So I took a seat right in between some Indian consultant here on a work visa, he rambles something about how Indian food in Sunnyvale sucks compared to New Dehli and right next to some bigger Latino "Ben Davis" guy who looks like he wants to seriously kick my ass for sitting too close to his muchacha. All good, I'm here just to enjoy a beer.
The best thing about the oasis is their bar food menu. It's written on a chalkboard right on the bar and it has prices from like 1997.
The menu is strait trailer and I like it!!! Corndogs = $1.00, jalapeno poppers $2.50, chili cheese fries $3.50, and buffalo wings was their big ticket item coming in at like 6 bucks. Yes! And the food comes on little dixie paper plates.
I came here with two other friends and we hit a dry night. Â There weren't that many people there, so there was more attention us from the bartenderess's (sp?). Â There's a large patio area in the back for those who smoke...or need a fresh breath of air. Â
I recommend to try this place out for a non-flashy kick back night.
Two major pluses. Â Owner Jerry is a cool cat, often hanging with the regulars during the weekend days. Â Made me feel real 'at home': Â like I belonged. Â I normally don't feel welcomed in dive bars, what with my non-slurred speech and matching socks. Â So I appreciate this. Â
Plus number two: Â Stephanie. Â Tiny, funny, spunky, cuter-than-anything. Â Dresses cute but doesn't whore out (so, you can actually bring a woman here). Â
So, my first time at the bar I met Steph, who gave me a good pour of Makers, and some random anecdotes from her comically funny day. Â And I looked around: Â and there are actually some women here -- Not that they would talk to me -- But I was struck by actual females having fun in a dive bar. Â
Doesn't get a 5th star because the men's bathroom stall has a shower curtain instead of a latching-door. Â So, when you're trying to grunt one out, some guy will poke his head in. Â Not so cool. Â Otherwise, it's an h-way-from-h. Â Â Namaste to Steph and Jerry.
PS -- Steph will SING while still serving drinks. Â And as far as I can tell, she has never sung 'The Rose'. Â Please, karaoke-ites: Â by the hammer of Thor, no more Bette Midler songs.
So I wrote another review on "The Patio" which is practically next door on the night a friend and I decided to discover new bars we haven't been to before. Â
So we were there on a Saturday night, and it was karaoke night. Â The other reviewers weren't kidding when they said that the crowd is definitely a mix.
There were girls in there that looked like they should have been in a nightclub, there were older dudes and women playing pool, rocker looking people, a group of lesbians, and just about every other kind of person in there.
It is a nice, cozy place, and I was amazed at the bartender's singing and serving expertise. Â She was the only one back there, but she was singing very well, while serving drinks simultaneously, and it was funny to watch her sing, move the mike away from her mouth and quickly say something to the customer, sing another line, and repeat this over and over again.
At some point at the night, we witnessed a small fight break out, and weren't sure exactly what had happened. Â We saw two dudes try to put each other into headlocks, and first thought that they were just messing around, but then it started to look more serious, and the person that got hurt the most was the guy who tried to break up the fight. Â The funny thing is that after that short and small scuffle, you'd think either one or both parties would have left, but they both stayed and were cool with it, so I guess it wasn't too bad.
Back to the karaoke, I'm not sure if they had a control on the volume of the mikes or something, but even when people were singing Metallica, their voices were still pretty quiet, and it was interesting that I could actually hold a conversation with my friend while the guy was singing.
It was definitely an interesting night out, and I think my friends and I will now start to add The Oasis and The Patio into our rotation of bars...
Alright. So this is my neighborhood bar when I am down visiting the parents in Sunnyvale. My friends and I still go here every time we are home together, and will probably do so for the next 50 years.
Lets start with the people. Wow. No where in Sunnyvale will you find a broader spectrum of people, including a fly by comedian who will drop a joke off on his way to the pisser, a sequin blouse wearing beauty who has been drinking in the corner for years, and a bartender who always seems to have a birthday on the night your there (she likes shots). Everyone from the pool players to the local kids who have grown up there seem to get along in some sort of hole-in-the-wall bliss that I have only seen in The Oasis.
Karaoke is a better story. The two hosts of karaoke night both are great singers, but their looks trump any vocal talent they could ever produce. While one sports bleached pants buttoned higher than the nipple with a KnightRider mullet, the other has a comb over that seems to start at his shoes. People, it is hard to look away from his hair, seriously. It defies all known laws of space and physics. From the hosts you go to the singers. The patrons of Oasis actually can sing, belting country and rock, all with dedication and humor. The great thing about Oasis Karaoke is that the microphone is cordless, so if you hear someone kicking ass at Journey, you spend half the time just trying to find who the hell is singing it. The best nights at Oasis are nights with karaoke.
With such a great slice of personalities and cheap STRONG drinks, Oasis is easily the best bar in Sunnyvale. You can play darts, pool, smoke outside if needed (there is a smoking area in the back contrary to an earlier review) sing, whatever you want. It has a great set up to allow for big groups of people, and most of the time is not too crowded. I highly recommend stopping if you are headed east on el camino.
By the way, in no way was I trying to make fun of the people of Oasis, I have had a chance to talk with many of them, and have enjoyed every minute of it (except when being hit on by sequins). They are personalities unrivaled in Sunnyvale, and consider myself lucky to have met them.
Jerry and company have been doing the "dive bar thing" pushing 4 decades now, if you can believe that!!
The Oasis is a combo neighborhood and destination bar with a long and sometimes colorful history. Â Many a "local" has been adopted by merely coming into the place and feeling the need not to leave.
Yvonne is one of my faves, an "Old School" bartender who will pour you the right drink at the right price.
When you do pop in, you will find 2 "bar" pool tables in the front and a "big boys" 9-footer in the back for serious competition. Â Dart boards and, of all things in this day and age, a foosball table, and the CA state lotto/keno/waste-of-money-and-bartenders-time complete the entertainment calendar, along with the commensurate 147 TV screens (not really, duh).
Jerry is a Sunnyvale institution and a damn good pool player. Â Say high and challenge him to a game, if your game. Â He drinks Parrot Bay and Pineapple, in case you are playing for a cocktail!!
I went here last night for the first time with a big group of friends and was pleasantly surprised. Â I love dive bars to start with, and this place was nice and comfortable. Â There was a wide array of types of people, and as far as karaoke goes, the singers here set the bar pretty high. Â While yes, there were some simply awful people with no shame singing, there were many quite decent singers here. Â The service at the bar was pretty slow, and so that was my only real beef with the place. Â Oh, and the bathroom stalls don't have a way of locking, but it's not like there were a million people there all trying to use the restroom at once. Â
I would definitely be willing to go back. Â I think it is a good place to go with a group of people for a fun night out.
Well...Karoke is always fun, no matter where you are, especially if you are drinking and surrounded by friends. This is a nice little dive bar. We pop in here randomly eh I wanna say once or twice a year. Couple years ago we got to use that line from that Sweet Home Alabama movie, "Oh, you have a baby..in a BAR..." hahaha. I wish I were kidding.
Review Source:I went here on a date's recommendation several months ago. (The date wasn't that great, but hopefully that won't bias my review much.) I'm not sure why anybody would recommend this place. There's practically no parking, there's no draft beer, and there's no shelter for smokers. The patrons smoke plenty, they're just forced to huddle in a pack right outside the front door. On the night I visited, the bartenders were slow, there was no cocktail server, and the lighting was far too bright. The karaoke was decent, but not nearly enough to make up for the other problems.
