If your looking for amazing food come to Off The Vine! Alie one of the owners makes amazing food and always comes up with great specials. Mike the other owner can tell you anything and everything about wine :) I absolutely LOVE this place. Great for wine tasting and a bottle to take home. Try Off The Vine. Service is on point also ;)
Review Source:We love this place! Â As wine club members, my husband and I were thrilled when they opened for tastings! Â We try to go at least once a week and are never disappointed. Â Mike and Allie pick 5 or 6 wines for the tasing menu and offer a delicious selection of cheeses, meats, sandwiches, and tapas....all served with a smile by their wonderful waitress, Amberjoy.
We always tip her generously- she works hard!
If you are looking for a nice spot to relax and enjoy good food and company along with fabulous wines...give it a try.
Still love this place. Â Love the wine, love the atmosphere, and most of all love the people! Â From the owners to the wine club members, it's always a great time at Off the Vine.
Since their re-grand opening in February, Off the Vine offers more than just wine and tapas. Â Their sandwiches are tasty and have great "local" names. Â The portions are good, so bring your appetite. Â Or you can share with a friend. Â If you don't know what sandwich to get, you and a friend can order a couple and then split them. Â My favorites are the Ghost Fish (tuna) sandwich (add the cheese please) and the OTV House. Â Alison is also open to suggestions, so if you have a certain craving, she can make your salivating dreams come true. Â
They also offer coffee and other unique drinks for friends that are not big into wine or crafted beer. Â I love to come by here on my lunch break or just after work to unwind.
They have great happy hour prices during the week and offer sandwich combo specials. Â Next time you want to meet up with some friends over some great wine or beer, think of Off the Vine!
WHAT a fun night the Grand Reopening party was at Off the Vine on Saturday. We've been members of this fantastic  wine club for several years and have missed them while they were close., As did all of their members!. It was wonderful seeing everyone! Great party, great food, great people and as always GREAT WINE! We're looking forward to future tastings but in the meantime time, Ali and Mike threw one heck of a fun party! Thanks guys..you are the best!!
Anyone looking for some help with a fundraising event should definately talk to these two. We did an event for Jane Goodall that they poured wine, beer and soda for us and we received lots of compliments!
Off the Vine is one of those local gems that make San Pedro a very special place to live, work or just visit. They recently passed a number of City of LA hurdles and now serve tasty bites to go along with their extensive wine choices. Great, friendly place to hang before a Warner Grand Theatre performance!
Review Source:I will continue to post 5 star ratings of this business- keep in mind that I update my review every 20 or so times I experience their amazing service, welcoming atmosphere and truly great vibe.
Mike and Ally have partnered with me on several events, and are my go-to vendor for all things wine. They are the type of people that will go to the end of the earth to assist a customer and to ensure a great experience.
Apparently the owner doesn't take criticism well and sees fit to send threatening emails with people who don't agree with his unwillingness to even listen to customers. He sent me this but didn't publish it publicly.
This is a testament to his attitude. Instead of inviting me in to prove himself as a wine tasting establishment in a different setting, he decides to threaten anyone who leaves unfavorable emails. As Linda L. of Long Beach mentions in an earlier review:
"Seems the owners of Off The Vine do not take criticism very well. Â I have been sent numerous nasty emails and threats from the owners. Â Not too sure why a business would act this way. Â But please stop your nasty threatening emails. Â I am entitled to my opinion whether it be one or five stars. Thank you."
Here was my threatening email:

Your Review
"Sorry you felt it necessary to set up a Yelp account just to bash our business. Says more about you than it does about us. A lot of folks in this town are very happy we are back in full swing along with our friends at the Redman's Hall. You basically asked us to alter our event to fit what you thought it should be because you did not read the full e-mail. Had someone requested I turn the music up even louder should I have done so because they are a customer? And how are we to take your comment about knowing people in the city and the chamber? Is that a threat? This is more of a vendetta than a legitimate review. Pathetic really and not very neighborly. You would think living in the downtown area you would be thrilled to have a business like ours in town. Oh well, it is your loss. We prefer to concentrate on the folks that appreciate people that invest their hard earned money in Downtown San Pedro. Like Joe Buscaino's office. You are welcome to join us anytime in the future and I look forward to seeing you at the Business Open House at the Vue on February 24th."
What a great place. Â Michael & Alison are wonderful hosts. Â My husband and I went in before seeing a musical across the street at The Warner Grand and we had a great bottle of wine. Â Their prices are excellent and their knowledge, impressive. Â We have some great places in Pedro, let's support our local businesses.
Review Source:Was talking to my co-worker about wines and since we both live in San Pedro, Off the Vine came up in our conversation. Â Since my co-worker was helping me, I wanted to thank him by purchasing a wine that he'd enjoyed. Â Went to visit Off the Vine and met Michael and Alison, the owners of the shop who were both very NICE! Â My friend had liked the Croatian wines, so Michael picked a bottle that was popular and affordable. Â I will definitely go back to Off the Vine for my future wine purchases...please support our local businesses in San Pedro!
Review Source:With the Holidays coming I will be doing my shopping at Off The Vine. This is an excellent small business to support. They have gift baskets, and can order cases of wines from smaller vineyards that give your gifts a unique feel. I love to entertain, and off the vine is an excellent place to shop for reasonably  priced wines to pair with a meal. When in doubt they are extremely helpful.
Review Source:I love Off the Vine!! Michael and Alison are so friendly.. I love the wine tasting and the great people you meet. I have been there with just 2 girlfriends and other times with 10+ girls looking to wine taste and enjoy the night.. I have a great time.. EVERY time.. Â The staff is friendly and very informative about the wines we are tasting.. Sunday sampling is great!! For a mother that just wants to get away for a few hours.. This is the place I pick.. Thank you Off the Vine and I will see you guys soon!
Review Source:Off the Vine is great for the experienced wine taster and the novice! I am one of those people who can stare at all the wine options in the grocery store forever without having any clue which one to pick... thanks to Off the Vine, I no longer have to waste my time! The owner is extremely knowledgeable and is always willing to give advice and recommendations.
Wine tasting here is very cozy and relaxing, with tasting themes that change from week to week. It is a great place for a date or an evening with friends. They also often have special events that coincide with other happenings (plays, etc) in San Pedro.
I'm surprised by all the glowing reviews of this place. I guess to be fair Michael is a nice enough guy and knowledgeable but, the selection is limited and the value is not that great. I'm glad they are in town I only wish they'd expand the selection and be a bit more competitive in pricing. If you're serious about your wines and don't mind a bit of a drive i'd suggest the wine house in west LA or Hi Times in Orange County. Both have expansive selections from around the world and helpful knowledgeable staff. Off the vine is ok only because they're the ONLY wine shop in town.
Review Source:Kids took me here to show off their favorite place in SoCal to taste wines close to home. Been trying to make it in for a year and a half now...trips are always so packed we hadn't made it to date, til last night. Â Wow this place is awesome. Â Warm and woodsy and the proprietor Michael, so friendly and warm too. Â You can buy a bottle of wine and then drink it on the premesis - Â NO CORKAGE FEE! Â I hear they may be offering tapas in the near future-ole!
Any who, this is the place to buy a bottle and then take it to the Chop House one block away, no corkage fee if you show them your tag on the bottle : )
Â
I could see meeting friends on a Friday nite for a bottle; nice seating arrangements and a knowledgeable proprietor that will answer your questions about the wonderful world of wine! Â *smile*
I'm really happy to say that I like what is going on here. It's really a place all about wine for the general public. Prices are reasonable, and there is a value added service about supporting a locally owned organization.
They have a great Spanish selection, and it's nice to see these types of establishments making an impression on San Pedro.
We found this little gem of a place through the Yelp Events page for their "Summer Beer Tasting."
The place was surprisingly filled with people lounging around tasting both wine and beer. We received about 8 or so samples (some were 'surprise' in that they weren't on the list provided).
The two owners of the store are two of the nicest people you could meet. Â They were friendly and knowledgeable, and eager to share their love of the products they sell with others. I could not have felt more welcome and at home in this place. Â It wasn't too quiet, but quiet enough you could easily enjoy conversation with those that you're with.
They have a large selection of wines and a wine club.
I definitely plan on going back to buy some wine.
I just got home from Off the Vine's beer tasting event... which is ironic, because I am a wine lover who is not much for beer. However, since my goal for the summer is to learn to like beer, I had to give it a shot.
Man, the beers were not bad! They had a nice selection of German, Belgian, and English beers, and I actually kind of enjoyed several--trust me, kind of enjoyed is progress! The others in my group, including Vanessa F., really liked most of the beers offered. We tasted about 8... awesome for $10 each! The owners are super nice and know a lot about beer... I can only imagine how much they know about wine!
The shop itself is SO cute, and I love their tasting area. They have a few tables with bar stools and a small couch area. It's adorable! The shop carries TONS of wines, including those familiar to me and many that were not. They have wines from all over, it seems! Best of all, their prices are reasonable! For my husband and I, this is huge... because wine is our weakness! They have a wine club that costs $35 for 3 bottles--that's just under $12 a bottle. Finally, a wine club we might be able to afford!
We didn't taste or purchase any wines, but I would love to go back here and taste and shop. The owners are so knowledgeable and kind... we were there until about 9:45pm (they close at 9!) and they were totally gracious and friendly to us the entire time. I highly recommend checking this place out. And, for anyone living in Long Beach (where I live), it's not far! About 10 miles from Belmont Heights... check them out!
This has got to be the best place for miles around to browse & buy wines. The range is enormous, the prices are really reasonable, & the owners (Michael & Alison) are really helpful & friendly.
They have pointed out some wines, & even some varietals, that I would never have thought of. What is more, they regularly have really inexpensive & fun wine tastings. Get on their email list!
In May they hosted San Pedro's second wine festival, and it was a huge success. I wish them all the very best, & I will be in often to see them & shop.
Off the Vine is a fun place to gather and chat with strangers in the community while sampling a variety of wines. Â We are not wine snobs by any means, so we enjoy sampling the different wines. Â Off the Vine offers so many offerings from small wineries that aren't in the big stores, which we appreciate, and the monthly wine tastings are definitely enjoyable. Â We are Wine Club members here and love that the owners know us by name and that we get a free tasting every month (just another reason why this is one of my favorite places in San Pedro!). Â It's a quaint place, but easy to sit and enjoy the company of others or just run in and pick up a bottle of wine before dinner. Â We've taken a bottle of wine across the street to the Chophouse (where they waive corkage for Off the Vine wines).
We even had a birthday gathering here and it was so much fun. Â The owner poured us wine (Mike selected what he thought were good values for under $20 per bottle) and served us cheese plates. Â We sat around playing games and enjoying the wines, while Mike made sure we had enough wine to go around. Â He opened new bottles at appropriate times and kept us all happy.
Seems the owners of Off The Vine do not take criticism very well. Â I have been sent numerous nasty emails and threats from the owners. Â Not too sure why a business would act this way. Â But please stop your nasty threatening emails. Â I am entitled to my opinion whether it be one or five stars. Thank you.
Review Source:Very nice place to purchase/taste wine. Â It is always fun to drive over to San Pedro and get out of the familiar LBC to do some wine tasting. Â The shop is small and it doesn't have much curb appeal, but the owner makes up for it with his enthusiasm for wine. Â
There are several interesting restaurants in the area, including some that will waive the corkage fee if you purchase a bottle from OTW.
My only complaint about OTW is their poor quality wine glasses, I always bring my own.
This is not a real winery. Â It's a very small place with uncomfortable seating. Â The worker there doesn't know aoything about wine tasting and how to entertain guests. Â The wine was nothing to die for or drive for. Â He offers stale Ritz crackers! Â Overall, not a good place to wine taste. Â Would never go back.
Review Source:Not being much of a wine wonk but surrounded by friends who are, I am continuously going to Mike and Ali for recommendations. Â Not only are they helpful, they're consistently on the money when it comes to matching the wine with the person or occasion. Â They know most of their regulars by name and preferences, but everyone who ventures in feels like a long-time friend. Â Amazing cache of wonderful and, sometimes, obscure selections. Â Don't hesitate to ask for help and try a wine tasting for a real treat and evening of fun.
Review Source:Great little wine shop and tasting room in San Pedro. Â I went for the "Malbec Mania" tasting and came into the tasting room when about 6 people were towards the end of the tasting. Â The customers were all talking with the owners and each other, and everyone was friendly and down to earth.
The owner, Michael, gave us some great tips on wine, in addition to some more insight on the wines we tasted. Â
I recommend Off the Vine if you want a small and down to earth place to taste and purchase wines. Â I hope to return soon!
This place is amazing and brings true value to San Pedro. Â It offers wine tastings every Friday and Saturday and on First Thursday and I try to make it to every one of them. Â The best part about the wine shop is the atmosphere. Â Michael and Alison are very friendly to everyone and can tell you a lot about their wines and find you a wine that fits your tastes. Â I love coming in because every time I come, I learn something new about wine.
Their wine selection is very good and they really try to find things that customers enjoy. Â The first time I came to visit them was the first day they opened and I was looking for a Zin. Â They only had two at the time but the one they recommended was fantastic. Â After a few weeks they had a Zin tasting and they brought in over 10 good new bottles. Â It shows that they listen to their customers and try to raise the bar every week, even when they already are the best wine shop in San Pedro.
I recently went to the "Zin Fest" at Off the Vines. Â The selection of wines were great and different. Â Also, they had a spread of meats, cheeses, veggies and chocolate. Â The people running this place were extremely nice, informative and accommodating.
The only problem with this place is its really small, i mean really small, and its hard to find a place to stand while wine tasting as it gets pretty packed in there.
Hopefully their business will do well enough to buy out the space next door and open the place up for seating.
Michael Koth has built right in the middle of Pedro the best wine shop in the South Bay. Â And believe me, I have tried them all.
It is small, not more than several hundred wines being offered, but each one is a gem, well selected and well priced.
How does Off the Vine compete with Trader Joe's, Vons and BevMo? Â Simple- he does not compete at all. Â He sells nothing they have to sell. Â And what he sells they do not offer.
Most of the wine sold are local wines (as local goes around here), Central Coast and especially Santa Barbara County wines. Â Go to Santa Barbara and you will not find a better selection -- and prices there are higher than in Pedro.
If you are looking for plonk and normally drink "two buck chuck," do not bother going in. Â This is a shop for people who enjoy real wine and are willing to spend between $10-25 a bottle. Â They do outreach, they do tastings, but the bottom line is that this is simply the best place in town to pick up a bottle from the Santa Inez Valley that your guest has never heard of, and after tasting it, wants more. Â You look good, it tastes good.
If you live anywhere in the South Bay, add this one to your list. Â As wine shops go, this one will blow you away.
