I'm catching up on old reviews...such a slacker.
Anyway, if you've kept up with my food reviews, you know I'm a carnivore and that I love a good cookout! Â What better to throw on the grill, especially on the deck in LBI, than a couple of thick NY Strips, filets or even some burgers you made with fresh ground beef? Â If that's your goal, and you're on LBI, then I can't recommend a better place than Okie's. Â
We've been coming to LBI for a few years now and while we eat out a bit, I love to just cook it up for the family, so almost every night we'll hit Okie's or a local seafood market...or even better-BOTH. Â No lie, Okie's is THE place to go for some great steaks...they have an excellent selection and if you can cook, you won't be disappointed in the quality. Â If you can't cook then you might as will buy crap anyway, or better yet...learn! you'll spend a little more at Okie's than at the supermarkets on the mainland, but it's worth it. Â
Boys, a good cook will always impress!
If you've read other places I've reviewed down on LBI (which is really only one and that's okay) then you may know that I lived down there for the better part of 13 months. Â In that 13 months I think I have eaten at Oakie's over 24 times throughout the entire year though perhaps not continually as I know they used to close for about 6 weeks to go enjoy the races... (not sure which kind though.)
Regardless of that fact there is no better value for your money. Â Whether you want their $5 lunch special or just a sandwich with whatever you like on it you will routinely walk out spending less than $10 and for someone who had only an hour for lunch and then had to get back to a lot of carpentry this was the place to fill your belly.
Everyone in my family knows how to eat. Â Hands-down I could probably beat just about everyone but my cousin however even Oakie's provides significant challenges in the finishing-of-my-plate department as you can barely get your mouth around their sandwiches. Â And on top of that everything is sliced fresh and their roast beef is so rare you can't get it any better! Â To top it all off they put their sandwiches on REAL bread. Â None of this supermarket brand/Wonderbread type of crap... I mean real bread with a real crust (and sesame seeds on it are a plus) and a thick dense crumb that tells you it was baked by a person not a bunch of large scale machines in a factory.
And did I mention their a butcher shop as well? Â Never bought beef or anything else from them but I bet it was all primo stuff too!
Keep it up Oakie's!!!
On the beach and looking for some steaks or burgers? This is the place to go as they have not only fresh meat but also some good specials and low prices. The staff is friendly and attentive and is fast. Bought two filets here and they were delicious and cheap. Great selection of fresh beef and dogs and even lamb and chicken! Great location smack in the middle of the island on beach blvd.
Review Source:This place is amazing. Â The hoagies are huge. Â The meat is fresh and the selection of sauces are incredible. Â I just can't imagine what you could possibly dock a point from this place for. Â Sure the price is a bit high, but you pay for convenience. Â I look forward to Okies every time I'm at LBI.
Review Source:We only got a couple of things here, but in the future I plan to get all of my meat here when I am visiting LBI. My husband got a porterhouse steak which he really enjoyed. I liked the homemade turkey sausage, but not the teasing I endured for not ordering red meat. They have Bell & Evans chicken here. The service was friendly. It will be crowded on the weekends and parking can be tight. Okie's has their own marinades - my husband used one with his steak and really enjoyed it. Give it a try!
Review Source:Family and friends wanted ribs. Â What to do? Â Head to Okie's. Â I bought three racks of baby backs and remember the price being a little crazy. Â I also bought the Okie's pork rub, which I used on the ribs that say and still have in the pantry. Â Good stuff. Â The ribs came out excellent. Â I figured I'd try Okie's because one, there was nowhere else to go, and two, it was pouring outside so I didn't want to travel very far. Â My cousin's fiance recommended this place, as they have a house on LBI and the family usually goes there for fresh cuts of meat.
Review Source:It's expensive, but you get what you pay for - and seriously where else are you going to go on the island for meat?? Acme? I think not.
We go here at least once a year when we visit LBI, if not more. Last time we got chicken and ribs - both came out so juicy and tasty on the grill. We've also gotten hot dogs, steaks, burgers, and pre-made salads (potato / pasta etc) here in the past - all very good, but expensive.
Basic deli and butcher - the meat was reasonably priced and decent enough. Â hands down better than getting your meat anywhere else, and everyone raves about their burgers (though I haven't tried them yet).
don't be scared by the large crowd waiting - take a number and enjoy an efficient shop that will get you out quicker than you would expect.
