Place needs to be updated. Happy Hour menu isn't good. Selection of spirits and beer are subpar. When potato skins arrived, I wanted to ask the question, can I get potatoes with my cheese and grease.
I think I excused the bad food and the not so great service because looking at a beautiful ocean can do that to you.
Been living here for about... 13 years, I've NEVER been to this establishment until 4th of July 2013.
I remember my older sister would frequent this place when it was called Chillers. She told me about the wonderful alcohol filled "adult slurpies" and wild nights. By the time I was 'of age' it had turned in to Lattitues. For some reason the place just never appealed to me. Now the place has been "OTR" for awhile and finally someone said "lets check out OTR". I figured it would be jam-packed, but it wasn't. It was full but not out of control. The drinks were moderately priced and there were like 5 bartenders working.
I'll definitely be back to check out some NFL and UFC.
This is a really fun place to hang out and have a nice dinner and drinks, especially when the Lakers or Dodgers are playing. Â The atmosphere is great, service is quick and friendly and you can always find a great game on one of the many TVs. Â Parking is super easy, unlike so many other restaurants in the area. Love this place. Â Make sure to order the pizza.
Review Source:Looking for a place to dance, have a drink, eat and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Redondo Beach? Then On the Rocks is your place!
This is one of my favorite night hang out places especially on Saturdays. My friends and I usually go for birthday parties, and just to hang out.
Food is great, service is great and music is great.
Go get your dance on!
On the Rocks is a dumpy, classic sports bar. If you know what you're getting into you won't be disappointed. This is not a gastro-pub. It serves bar food. Everyone in our group enjoyed their fried bar food from fish and chips to BLTs. One of us had the clam chowder and they liked it. The hot wings were also good. The drinks are great. Full bar. No whimpy pours. Sure the menus could have been less sticky and the place is kind of brown (lots of wood) and the bathrooms are so-so but it's a low key, fun, sports bar. Unpretentious which is refreshing in our getting-snobbier-by-the-minute beach cities. We played darts, danced to a fun live band and had a great waitress. Rebecca was wonderful. We had fun! A perfect night.
Review Source:I went with my sis to celebrate a friends bday. The atmosphere was ok... Good music. We didn't get a chance to get a drink nor taste the food. At approximately 11pm a huge fight broke out, security couldn't handle it, cops where called... place was shut down immediately. It wasn't just a one on one fight it was a group of guys against another group some girls went down as well. Crazy night!
Review Source:every time mama runs in the Superbowl 10K, we end up here for beers to both replenish lost carbs and aquaint our livers for the impending wreck that is Superbowl sunday.
the bar is great and is always packed after the run. very family friendly especially with all the strollers that come in after the "stroller" part of the run. great beer specials and lots of room. friendly servers were always on top of things. awesome views as well being it's right next to the marina
this place at night is A LOT different though. i used to frequent in my "formative" years. bad bad boy, i was. but, good times nonetheless. if you have kids or a wife or Responsibilities, come during the day. if you have no care in the world and shoes you don't mind getting dirty with drinks and bodily fluids, come at night.
see ya next year!
I am a fan of this place! Â I usually go there on Saturday nights but I have been there for happy hour, birthday parties (two of my own) and for an afternoon drink on a Sunday too.
There are 2 outside patio areas, the one in the front is my favorite during the day because it has a nice view and ocean breeze. Â In between the 2 patios is their inside area that has a big dance floor, darts, pool table, televisions, plenty of tables to sit at and a nice big bar. Â I haven't been in for a full on meal yet but I do like their appetizers like their buffalo wings, soft pretzel with a side of nacho cheese, onion rings, etc. Their bartenders make some good drinks up for us too, try the Las vegas shot! On Saturday nights the dj plays hip hop, 90's and current hit list.
I think the reason why I keep going back is because I feel comfortable when I'm there. Â I don't feel like a sardine crammed into a jar but there are always a decent amount of people to get the vibe going, I can get a snack to curb the alcohol and the drinks are good but they don't rip you off for them just because you are close to the beach.
Give the place a try!
This place rocks...
I came here for a fundraiser for a friend who is in need of financial help for cancer treatment. On the rocks went well out of their way to make this an awesome night.
The servers were slammed but very friendly as they brought us all our food and drinks. Â Food wise, I would say average bar food....I really enjoyed my buffalo wings though. Large and crispy wings, Â loaded with a spicy flavorful traditional wing sauce. They also came with celery, carrots and two dipping sauces.
Nice pours on the drinks, always a reason to stop by.
I'm a little late writing this review, but it's better later than never.
We came in this past November to celebrate a friend's birthday. Â The location, isn't too hard to miss as it's next to the Rocky shore of the Marina (Gee I wonder how the got their name).
The place isn't too bad. Â There were a couple of rooms, lots of tables, a small gaming area with some pool tables, and some darts. Â Small dance floor for anyone interested in that sort of stuff (sorry, I don't consider dancing a sport on any level, with maybe the exception of Capoeria or other martial arts) with a DJ playing some music. Â Of course you can't have a sports bar with out Sports Memorabilia and plenty TVs with a game or two. Â the Bar itself was nice. Â Fairly large, with ample room for customers to order. Â We go there too late to try anything from the kitchen, but as it was a Birthday celebration, his wife brought in cup cakes. Â Close to food as we can get, and cool that they let us bring them in as some other places maybe would let you bring anything from outside.
Came here for football Sunday & had a good ole time. Got there early enough for brunch so I indulged w/an omelet & a few bloody Marys. The food was good and affordable. The drinks were nice, strong, & cheap. There are TVs all over the place & the servers were very attentive. The place is right @ the Redondo Beach harbor so remember to get your ticket validated so you can save a few pennies on parking. Be sure to check out this sports bar next time you're in the area.
Review Source:On the Rocks holds a special place in my heart ever since it was called Latitudes...I feel old now :/ My friend, DJ Flip, use to spin at OTR (God rest his soul). The bar has a chill vibe, beautiful view, and a nice ocean breeze. No pretentious people and the staff is laid back.
As a sports bar it's great because there are plenty of tv screens all around the bar. I love catching Laker games with my girls. The food is typical bar food, nothing too fancy but tastes great. There are a couple of pool tables too.
As a "club" it's cool, they do have a dance floor area and DJ. Spins hip hop and today's hits. Definitely a good time if you roll with a fun crowd. The drinks are strong and reasonably priced. I believe there is a $5 cover on weekend/dance nights.
Parking is $1.50 when validated
Bar has plenty of seating inside and a big outdoor patio.
The bathrooms could use some maintenance.
Overall, OTR is a cool spot to watch sports, drink, dance, celebrate a birthday, and just have a great time.
This is such a great bar that has everything one could want to have a great night out! I highly recommend it.
There was a DJ and pretty great music if you are in the mood for dancing, but it is big enough to where if you want to take a break or that is not your scene you can go and sit at tables either inside or outside on the happening, amazing patio that enable you to speak to one another without having to shout over insanely loud music. Imagine a night where you can have the option of rocking out and dancing when you are feeling it and also head over somewhere else in the same bar and actually be able to talk!
Also, the drinks are awesome and made just right! I had several mixed drinks and they used the good stuff in making them. Â The staff is a pleasure and lots of fun and there is a great crowd of people there.
I am definitely going back soon!
I have been here for Sunday football once and it was fun. The people and environment were good and the food okay.
Tonight however was a ghetto disaster. The place was packed with a primarily male, rude and overly intoxicated crowd. It easily could have been Tijuana and I was not expecting that in Redondo Beach.
I would give this place a chance again for Sunday football but would never return after dark.
Came here for fellow yelper, Mike F's birthday. Â He turned the big 100.
I like On The Rocks because it was not too crowded when we went. Â It was easy to get in, they have their own parking lot and parking that night was only $2 with validation. Â There were lots of things to do in On The Rocks, and the music was good throughout the night. Â No cover.
On weekends, I'm thinking it turns into a more clubish place with a DJ and a dance floor. Â The drink prices were good, and the crowd was okay. Â It seemed to me like there were more girls here than guys. Â Or, the ratio was pretty even.
I would come back.
We were at Fiesta Labor Day weekend 2012and decided to walk to Redondo Beach for old time's sake. Â We were considering SUP'ing, but didn't make a reservation so that didn't pan out. Â After realizing we made quick the walk from the Hermosa Pier to the King Harbor area, we decided to stop for a refreshment. Â We grabbed a couple of beers and sat on the patio. Â Since On The Rocks is on the water, we were surprised that it wasn't busier. Â It is also next to the water park area, so most of the noise came from that direction. Â We did grab an appetizer, but it wasn't anything to write home about. Â
Overall, it was SUPER mellow on a Sunday mid-3 day weekend and not very lively. Â It was good for what we were looking for (just a place to step, rest, and hydrate), but I wouldn't go out of my way to return.
Pulled in around 3:30pm looking for a couple drinks and also needed to speak with Mike G. Â Mike G is the owner and hands on manager. Â Alex R. and I were out looking for a place to host our Fantasy Football draft. Â With laptop in tow and a thirst for getting buzzed, here's how we did.....
Alex R and I sat near the front door and ordered a Bud and a vodka-soda. Â One thing for sure is that OTR knows how to make strong, good tasting drinks. Â That's a always a plus. Â Our server was Nichole D. and she looked great! Â Nice to see you Nichole! Â Onto the serious business... Â Is OTR suitable for our Fantasy Draft?... Â We ask for Mike and within moments he's at our table shaking hands and making us feel welcome. Â It's always been this way, he's a great guy and does a great job for his business. Â I won't tell you the deal we worked out in terms of pricing for our draft but I will tell you that he is willing to hook it up. Â The only problem is.... the WiFi is no bueno. Â Alex R got kicked off and http://wwwSpeedtest.net rated them an F+. Â That is unacceptable for my league. Â
I must say that if you do a live, "OFFLINE" draft, this place is perfect. Â Mike will give you specials on drinks and food. Â He appreciates your business and will give you one of many private or semi-private locations. Â But if your draft is online, this WiFi can't handle it and if you get 8-14 guys all pulling from their connection I'd only imagine that it'd be even more questionable. Â 5 stars for everything just minus 1 for the WiFi.
Will I again?... I will always come here, just not for my Fantasy draft. Tutalu!
I feel like it's definitely for the older crowd.
Majority of the customers were in their late 30's-early 50's.
The bartender gal was a bit on the older side, but was trying to be young with her pigtails, and...cleavage..
The bartender dude helped me. I got me a Midori Sour, and got my mom a Tequila Sunrise.
The Midori sucked lol. I saw him make it..and it was all wrong. Tequila Sunrise..it mainly tasted like Tequila. Both $11.00
Not worth it :/
Went here on Memorial Day weekend. Â Not super crowded, yet the service was average. Â I had the appetizer platter which had a good variety of finger foods, but nothing special, very average... Which is my thoughts on this place, AVERAGE.
The bar is 'warn', plenty of televisions, but no two have the same color/contrast, meaning they are old and on their last leg.
The service remains excellent, given that this is a sports bar and not the Ritz. Â Managers and servers are happy to find whatever game you want, and there are tvs aplenty - 52 if I remember right (no, I didn't count them). Â The heaters work, and when they don't, are promptly replaced or refueled.
The ale is good - if you judge an establishment by its IPA, you won't be disappointed here - try the Nelson IPA on tap. Â It is properly overhopped with good color and quality malt underneath.
That said, the pizza, which had improved with new dough, is now inconsistent. Â Improve the sauce, keep the new dough, but for the love of god, get the timing down. Â Pizza should neither be burnt nor uncooked. Â Fix this - it ain't rocket science.
The outdoor (rear) patio remains a hidden gem - you could fit 100 out there and there's seating for at least half that.
Net result: Â Strong service, good infrastructure. Â Improve the food to gastropub level (the prices are already there) and this establishment will give the new Shade hotel a run for its money in a couple of years. Â There's an opportunity here - and there's still time :).
Leave it as is, and, well, it's still a solid sports bar with better service than the nearby competition, Â but you might want to stick with the tacos, nachos, sandwiches, salads and entrees when you go.
my friend and I were in the area and hungry, so we stopped by this place for a late lunch.
We sat out on the patio facing the water, which had a nice view of kayakers and boats passing through near the harbor.
I had the veggie burger, which was good, and my friend enjoyed her chicken wrap. We also ordered the chips, salsa and guacamole -- it took forever, and finally came with a super-tiny cup of watery guacamole.. very disappointing.
The service was not great. Even though there were almost no other patrons, our server was unfriendly and seemed to always be in a hurry. She brought my friend the wrong order, so she obviously didn't care
The bathrooms are gross.
The food was just okay.
The service was less than okay.
Everything about this place hovers between 2-3 stars.
I don't understand why the food prices are so high. Even with the pretty view, it's just not worth it.
I would consider coming back when there's a game to watch, but I don't plan on actually eating here again.
Okay so I'm thinking Redondo Beach right? woo hoo, cute tatted white boys all tall and buff.. walked in WTF? a bunch of Mexicans dancing to CLO.. hahaha! came for my beautiful friends birthday party and was taken back by the expectation I had of this sports bar, turned nightclub on the weekends.. first off hats off to the DJ, he had me on the dance floor all night, ( mainly hip-hop and old school gangsta rap) Â only bad thing is there is no air or circulations on the dance floor so I was sweating and red faced within minutes, There's a $5.00 cover, I had water so can't review the drinks, Set parking fee of I think it was $ 6.00, don't recall but if your there before 10pm I think you can get a validated fee. They have an indoor and outdoor patio
Highlight* Two drunk girls + one guy = poor imitation of porn dancing and grinding.. I did like your pink panties to the girl in the back dress and to your chunky friend.. Never wear white when you grinding, Hello... camel toe!
Would I come back... oddly YES!
On the Rocks is a sports bar located right on the water, just down the street from the Redondo Beach pier. On Saturday nights it becomes a night club, and we came here for the first time this past Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. It was a really kick back place, and there were a lot of things that I like about it, including:
-They have a dance floor and a DJ playing mostly hip-hop.
-$5 cover
-Strong drinks
-Easy parking that is cheap when validated.
-Indoor and outdoor seating
-Pool tables
The only thing that I didn't like about On the Rocks was that they had lots of flies. It was probably because they kept the doors open the whole time we were there, but it was obnoxious.
I also found it unusual that they would not let me wear a baseball hat. I didn't mind taking it off too much, but I did find it funny because it is a sports bar. I'm assuming that this is something that they do only during the night club hours, because that would make no sense during regular hours when people come in to watch games?? Anyway.../rant
I had a great time at On the Rocks. The good far outweighed the bad for me, and I will definitely come back to hang out here again. It is a fun place to celebrate a special occasion with friends.
Me and my buddy decided to grab a late lunch after a workout. The food was ok. What do you expect, it's a sport bar. Burgers, fries, wings, etc. Nothing fancy. I have to say the nice thing about the place is the tv's, and the variety of beers.
So why am I giving this place 2 stars cause the service is garbage. The bartender didn't offer us any menu's. never offered us any refills for our drinks, and it seems to be more important to socialize with friends instead of offering customers some service.
I've only been here for happy hours after work, so this is not a comprehensive review.
I like the beer selection and excellent happy hour specials (I think $3.50 for import drafts, tough to beat in So Cal). Â Also, lots of HD televisions, so it was a good place to be during the NCAA tournament, as I didn't have to look far to check in on any game at any time.
My reason for giving it only three stars is that you have to pay to park here and they only take cash. Â While you will get a discount if you get your ticket comped near the exit, you still have to pay a dollar something to leave. Â This wouldn't be so bad, but there is NO other parking nearby. Â Across the street, there's metered spots, but I think they're 24/7, so you can't even park there for free.
This review is for On the Rocks as a sports bar, and not as a club on the weekend.
Great place to catch the Laker games....its a bit of a drive from the Westside on a weekday, damn you Sepulveda, but I still make the treck. Â Decent happy hour specials, and they have a few items that are on special throughout the whole Laker game. Â I like the Quesadilla and the Chicken Cesar Salad, both $6 with HH special.
Parking is great, huge lot, just make sure you validate your parking ticket. $1.25 for the whole night.
They also have the huge beer pitcher-thingy which is great to share with friends for about $18. Â It has ice in the middle to keep the beer cold, and a spout to refresh your glass. Â 3 of us got about 2+ beers out of it.
Crowd atmosphere is great too, I swear people were cheering at the screen like the Lakers could hear us all the way out in Boston. Â Plus the whole place boo'd the one Celtic's fan that walked in.
Small patio overlooking the water, and larger patio out back, and I think they even have a tv outside for game watching. Â
Bathrooms are dirty and nasty.
On the upside, these guys have plenty of flatscreen tv to watch every game on the planet. That, plus cold beer and cold patron. Friendly enough waitresses.
On the downside, I didn't try the food, because there are a lot of flies buzzing around the place. Seriously, tons of them. Maybe the reason for this is because this bar identifies as an Ohio State bar, and we all know what flies like to buzz around.
I liked the food here and it was nice to sit on the patio during a beautiful day on the beach, just something about it was "eh". The service was somewhat friendly, although when we tried to make conversation with our waitress she seemed to not want to be there, or the words were just flying over her head.
Had the buffalo chicken sandwich, which was great, but the bottom of the sandwich was soggy as soon as it hit the table. By the last bite, the bun was liquid.
Best part is serving Peroni beer in authentic glasses. That's a way to a wop's heart! Viva Italy!
After attending the Quality Seafood Choder cook off, I needed a drink. Naja's was too crowded, so I went across the parking lot to 'On the Rocks'. Needing a drink on this warm day, we sat down, flagged a waitress, and ordered our drinks. Inside the place was a third full, and the outdoor pation in back had about the same. Two bartenders serving up drinks, four waitress running drinks and food. Lots of games being played. Another waitress comes by twice, once to take our food order and the second to see if we are okay. Hell no! Where is my DRINK! It's been more than 10 minutes and the bartender was now just pouring them. I looked around the room, and everyone has a drink and food, so where is my drink? After staring her down, we finally got them. Did I mention that there wasn't that many people there?
It was a nice day to sit out in the pation, but I needed to cool off, not from the long wait for our drinks, but from the sun crowded chowda cook off. They have two pool tables and two dart boards.
We ordered the wings (half BBQ and half spicy) and tacos. Both were good, but this was the first time the wings were all the little drumettes.
I think the service was terribly slow for both the drinks and the food for the amount of patrons to staff.
I walked about 8 miles round-trip to come here, because I saw a huge sign on the side of the building which read: "Karaoke"... and I'm on a mission to do it... just once.
Oh, but this night was ethnic night with a DJ, and me sporting a fake Irish accent wasn't ethic enough for the room. Â Side Note: Seems Karaoke is only on Sunday nights.
But at least I was able to score a blue moon for $5 plus a $5 cover.
So, all totaled up, I spent $10 and walked 8 miles for a blue moon. Â Not one of my crowning achievements.
I came here with some friends and I guess I expected so much more because some people in our party was raving about their good happy hour specials. It's an ok place but nothing out of the ordinary. They have 2 pool tables, darts and a music player where you can select a song for 5cents. One plus factor is their outdoor patio where you can see the beautiful sunset. I also like the fact that it is so near the beach.
They get minus points though for charging my friend's credit card with two dinner meals that we did not purchase.
I would give it 2.5 stars if I could. It was just okay. Nothing special. Â typical sports bar. Â Pool, dance floor, DJ, good sized bar, which was filled up with patrons. Â Outside seating. If I hadn't been with a group of friends, I may have been bored. My Oj, vodka, and splash of club was a bit on the weak and small side. Â But the specialty Boomerang drink was good if a bit on the sweet side.
But I did find a cool pen that said, "This pen was stolen from On The Rocks Sports Bar." Â So I STOLE it, and now it's MINE.
I had a great time at this bar. There is lots to do at this bar. Isn't that what it's all about when you go to a bar? I'll just make a list of what I saw and liked and didn't like...you make your own conclusions.
THEY HAVE...
They have good drinks
They have a dance floor
They have 1 dollar pool games
They have dart boards
They have real darts
They have a big bar
They are near the beach.
THEY DON'T HAVE...
They don't have Cute patrons...either much too hot (like high maintenence) or look well.. not my type.
They don't have Great decor.
They don't have anything else wrong with them.
