Came here for a drink after a show and dealt with a rude bartender who wouldn't even make us a jalapeño margarita. He just seemed like he didn't feel like it.  Apparently other patrons said they had waited for 25 min at the bar for a drink while he took a coffee break.

Didn't make me want to come back after this rude service. Ill take my money elsewhere.

I'd say it's rare to say "Wow!" after eating last night's leftovers, but that's what happened after I ate mine from O'Toole's last night.  We headed over there for dinner, our first time there, last night.  We ordered the beet salad, onion soup, turkey panini on cranberry bread, burger, and the showstopper for me - Fish and  Chips.  Everything was excellent.  I thought I had made a mistake not ordering the the Shepherd's Pie after seeing many go to the other tables.  (Now I just have something else to look forward to on my next visit).  The fish and chips were fantastic, the best I've ever had.  Nice atmosphere, tasty and expertly prepared food - what more could you ask for.  We will definitely be back again - and we'll be bringing our foodie friends!

I really like this place!  It's nice inside, there's always a soccer game on at least one of the TVs, and they have beer.  How can you go wrong?  They have a great happy hour, live music some nights, and a nice patio on top of that.  All the times I have been there it's been pretty busy.  Always a good sign!

The food here is pretty good.  I always have a hard time trying to decide what to eat.  They have your standard bar stuff (chicken tenders, wings, burgers, nachos) as well as some real irish pub fare (bangers and mash, fish n chips).  I finally tried the fish n chips, which friends have told me is the best they've had here in the States.  I have also had the Tipperary Gold panini.  Both were delicious and the prices, I feel, were pretty reasonable.

Our waitress this last time I was there was Carolyn and she was awesome.  She was very busy, but she was always checking up on us, bringing us drinks as well as water and chips towards the end of our night!  And it was a long night...she had to deal with us from 6 to 12:30 (being there that long, we also got some shots courtesy of the bartenders).   Thank you!

I highly recommend giving this place a try.  Drop by to experience their happy hour or to watch an afternoon match with a pint and some lunch.

Some friends and I decided to stop by and try O'Tooles, mainly because there was a Living Social deal ($15 for $30 to spend on food + drink). We ended up not being able to use it, unfortunately. Bottom line: don't bother with the Living Social deal unless you know at least a day in advance that you want to come here since it takes at least 24 hours to get your coupon code.

    So how about the food?
The food here is actually pretty good and reasonably priced. Grace L. ordered the Dingle Fish Pie, which was quite delicious. Thomas V. described it as being somewhat like minestrone soup in flavor, though with meat instead of veggies, and I can sort of see where he got that idea from. The portion was not exceptionally large, but it was a decent size, provided you're not totally famished.

I ordered the Brie Panini, which was quite scrumptious. I lovelovelove brie in general, and especially brie paninis, so this was right up my alley. It was a good size for a panini, and pretty much had all of my favorite things: brie, apple, pear, arugula. Noms. If you want meat however, this is probably not the best way to go.

They also serve a very delicious bottled pear cider, which Grace and I were both fans of.

Living Social mixup aside, the service was not the best. Maybe it was because we had the booth nearest to the door, but our waitress was somewhat MIA later on in our meal. We had been finished for some time before she finally came around to bring us the check, and even then, it took her an even longer time to come collect the check. We even tried to find her in the restaurant to give it to her, to no avail. We could have walked out the door without paying and no one would have noticed for a while... probably.

tl;dr: Food-wise, not a bad choice in dt New Haven. Have yet to really experience the pub-side though, so jury's still out on that.

SPLENDID! This place kicks butt. It is very big inside and has a great service and entertainment as well. Had a TON to drink here...very cold Jaeger and fabulous whiskey sours. Also had Jameson shots but things got fuzzy after a while...our waitress was soo good..the drinks kept coming and her sense of humor was spectacular. Had some pub food while we were there, wings and fried polenta sticks with three dipping suaces which was AMAZING. Bouncer was cool, I gave him knuckles when I walked past him. Note to self, do not mix rum, whiskey, jameson and jaeger..you may end up licking a random horse head book end accidentally...which is NOT cool.

If you love irish pubs, new haven and great service with stellar drinks, i urge you to go to O'Tooles!!!

Nice, dive-y feel. BIG FAN of the outdoor space.
    I would RECOMMEND this place.

I've come for a handful of happy hours at O'Tooles. I think what makes it an okay spot are the prices, free mini buffet, foos ball table, and that one time when a band of men in kilts stopped in.
I wasn't a huge fan of their under seasoned shepherds pie or any of the desserts, but it is a good spot for happy hour.

I love everything about OT! From my Saturday & Sunday mornings with Eddie to random weeknights with the rest of the crew this place is a top notch good time. When it comes to the food it's hard to say what I haven't eaten there. It's ALL delicious. The pot pie is spot on but the one thing I always go back to is the chicken salad, I get it in a wrap instead of open face. Overall it's a brilliant space with lots of indoor and outdoor seating for you and whatever army you're with.

This is a great spot.  Selena (I believe she may be one of the owners) took care of me and she had it all down.  From describing the beers and ciders to describing the food to describing the area and the crappy New Haven parking attendants, she was very knowledgeable and entirely helpful.  Awesome!  I had the chicken sliders with pickled onions (who ever heard of pickled onions other than in a Gibson?) and the fish and chips.  Both were excellent but I probably give the nod to the Fish and chips which were among the best I've ever had (and I've eaten them all over the place!)  All terrific!  I had been cycling that day so it seemed only right to toss back a beer (who am I kidding, it's always right to toss back a beer) but it was such a hot day I took Selena's advice on a chilled cider which was perfect!  I'm going to go here with a crowd.  Not for Karaoke (which always reminds me of the end of a drunken wedding) but maybe for the Irish bands or after some event in New Haven.  They have outside seating (probably great in the evening during the summer) and the inside is nice and cool.

Oh yeah, they have a Jameson's promotion.  If you order anything above the regular Jameson's you're entered into a drawing.  If you order the regular Jameson's and you end up finishing the bottle (not start to finish, it just ends on your pour) you also get entered into the drawing.  Great idea!

There are several Irish pubs in the area but this one is both authentic and well managed!  Give it a try!

Oh, O'Tooles. Exactly what New Haven needed, another Irish Pub! There aren't any in the general vacinity. *smirk*

Srsly, it wouldn't be New England if you weren't forced to have breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks out surrounded by football scarves, pints of Guinness, old men yelling in Irish accents, and a ton of bros in Red Sox hats asking for buckets of Budweiser whilst playing pub trivia. Know that I grew up with this and am in no way making fun (well, maybe a little), but rather that this experience evokes a warm-hearted sense of nostalgia for my college years in Portland, Maine, drunkenly meandering back and forth between Bull Feeney's, Gritty McDuff's, and Ri Ra.

That being said, O'Tooles is a new spot and is in the process of being broken in. It's almost too nice for an Irish pub, but I have no doubt that the townie and Yalie rufians will be on that sooner rather than later. Our waitress was nice, and considering that it was a Friday night and totally packed with every type of bro imaginable, she did a great job of getting us our food and drinks in a timely manner.

I still think Anna Liffey's is the best Irish bar in the Have.

Great service, as-good-as-it-gets bar food, and an excellent place to gather with friends for drinks, dinner, and/or trivia.

Got to the pub around 10:30pm on St. Paddy's Day. NO FUCKING IRISH MUSIC! Absolute fucking bullshit.

A diamond in the rough. Unfortunately a place this good cannot not remain a secret for long. I must admit, I have not tried the food (only the drinks), but the decor and the service are great.

Being a huge fan of Liffey's (mainly because it's across the street and I am a trivia frequenter), I was skeptical of O'Toole's when some friends suggested I check it out for trivia. Well, I stand corrected. O'Toole's won me over. I think I like their trivia better (sans music round), and at the suggestion of my friend, I ordered a burger, which was surprisingly delicious. The beef was perfectly cooked to my liking and super juicy, and I had them add some cheddar and a fried egg on top, which was just perfect.

On another occasion, I decided to go off the beaten path and order some Irish appetizer with smoked salmon on a bed of salad.  While it was weird to be eating horseradish, capers, onions, white bread, salmon and sour cream altogether, I kind of enjoyed it.

The staff are also extremely friendly and service is great.

Solid Irish Pub in the Havey. We saw this place as we were driving back from Nica's on a Saturday afternoon and decided to check it out for a late dinner.

The space is large and it was pretty packed at 8pm on a Saturday. The hostess was really sweet and said it would be a 30 min wait for a table, but that we coukd take a seat at the bar where the full menu is offered.  So we snagged two seats at the long bar and ordered some drinks and food.  $8 bucks for a Knob Creek nea?! Yes please!!  Having recently paid $16 for a Woodford neat at Lillie's in Manhattan, nothing tickles my brown liquid loving insides more than reasonably priced small batch bourbon!

Order the FISH AND CHIPS!!!  Seriously, order it!! The cod is super fresh, plump and delicious.  It wasn't fishy in the slightest and had such a buttery texture when coupled with the tartar sauce.  The batter isn't too heavy and it really pays homage to this classic accross-the-pond classic.  My wife is a fish and chips noob and didn't realize the world of awesomeness that malt vinegar brings to this dish.  I've had fish and chips at numerous pubs and this place serves the best by far.  We also got the calamari as an app, which was average and the calamari rings were on the small side.

We had to leave quickly after finishing our meal, but a band was setting up in the back and it sounds like they have live music often.  We'll definitely be coming back for sure!!

I haven't had any of their entrees here but their appetizers have been pretty tasty. O'Tooles has a nice atmosphere and pleasant staff (most of whom I think I recognize from other New Haven Irish bars....)

This is a great place to see bands - there's an actual stage area and enough room in front to have a dance crowd. Not positive if they have DJs too.

The tables/booths on the right side of the bar are almost too large - they probably could've made smaller booths and fit more on that side, since they only have about 6. The bar is fully open on one side and has two "windows" on the back side of it with barstools. While the back side of the bar allows for more people to sit, the bartenders often don't look behind them and take longer to serve those than the people at the "open" side of the bar.

The location is convenient since it's not right near Temple or Crown and there's usually parking on Orange or Chapel.

I came to hang out with a bunch of friends and was expecting the typical beers and bar-food scene.  While the nachos appetizer was predictably mundane, my fish and chips was surprisingly good.  I'm actually not sure why I ordered fish and chips, considering many restaurants mask poor quality fish by frying it--  O'Toole's did a great job with the fish and you could tell it was a high quality cut... moist and tender.  I'll certainly go back.

Nice Irish feel, large booths, large bar area... Calamari app was decent, lacking something... color(?) maybe.  Fish & Chips entree was excellent, fries were actually very tasty, hand cut perhaps.

I'm not a huge Irish Pub kind of guy, so my review is that of an outsider.  I think this place is probably excellent for what it is.  Give it a try!

I like the more traditional Irish bar setting. Ordered the Shep pie- should be a no brainer- it was greasy. Mentioned it to the bartender. Didn't seem to care, kinda shrugged it off.

    The open-faced chicken salad sandwich....wt chips(fries)
Wow! Things don't much better than this sandwich. One of the tastiest sandwiches I have had in ages. Heading back for part II this evening. I'm gonna a repeat offender

This pub has just opened and the food is very good.  I went in on Sunday and had the Tipperary Gold panini ($7.95!!!) with fries.  It comes with cheddar and fontina cheese (not my favorite).  I was leery about the combo but it really worked.  I hear the fish and chips are to die for.  Even though it is newly built, the bar and snug rooms look like they have been there forever.  The staff is friendly and seems up for the craic.

Went in for a business meeting, booths were great for that, very spacious.  Calamari appetizer was spot on, seasoned well, lightly breaded with panko & not overcooked.  I got the eggplant napoleon.. which was a bit of a weird choice for an Irish Pub, but i had a snack earlier and tried for something light.

This was not a napoleon...it was more of a roasted eggplant salad.  The flavor was nice, although it was a bit dry, and the brie cheese didnt really go with the dish.

I will back for a pint, but probably stick with more traditional pub fare like a burger or shepherd's pie.

Now, sometimes you enter a bar, and just feel like you're home. This is the feeling that came over me as soon as I entered O'Tooles. The bar itself is huge! On one side there's a traditional bar with traditional tables, and on the other side there are these large wooden booths. It reminded me of several bars I went to in Ireland. In addition to great aesthetics, O'Tooles has a phenomenal staff. Seanie, Mikey, and Eddie were attentive, friendly, had genuine Irish brogues, and made sure my pint glass was never empty for too long. The food was great for pub grub- I ordered to fried mac n' cheese and chicken pot pie and both were brilliant. If you want to go to a bar that has a great staff, great atmosphere, and better service, I would suggest moseying on down to O'Tooles for a quiet pint.
