I've eaten at Padavans multiple times, both with kids and without. I would love to say that i love this place, but i dont. I've never had a good experience there. The food is pretty good, I've had the pizza and the pasta a la vodka, but the service is TERRIBLE. The staff seems not to care about customer service, or the customer in general, or even coming over to your table after you sit down. On one occasion, i had to walk up to the bar to get a menu!? That seems ridiculous to me. Take my advice...order carry out.
Review Source:This place is a bar. Â It's loud. Â The food is...meh. Â Bar food. Â The service was beyond terrible. Â Very slow. Â "Lost" an order, Â twice. Â Waited waaaaay too long for utensils...AFTER the food was already sitting in front of us! Â The food was also unevenly heated. Brought us the wrong bill, so our card had to be re-run. Â I'm giving it one star because I had a glass of water that tasted great...even though it never got refilled.
Review Source:We had been here before and received fairly good service and a friendly wait staff. Â The food was okay. Â
This time was horrible. Â The waitress took 15 minutes to get us drinks. Â We ordered a pizza and the kitchen dropped it on the way out of the oven. Â The waitress told us it would be another 20 minutes for another pizza. Â Although I am grateful they didn't try to serve a dropped pizza, I expected an offer of an appetizer or a drink on the house while we waited. Â No such offer. Â During our previous visit, we were given a "free drink card" by the manager. Â We tried to use it on this visit and were told that since she doesn't work there anymore it didn't apply. Â Sorry, Padavans. Â If you allow and support your staff to hand out cards to get return customers, you need to honor them. Â The card even said "use as our gift for you to come back!". Â Nope, we won't be back. Â And as people who are always asked, "what restaurants would you recommend?" , Padavan's will be first on our list to tell folks to stay far away. Â Bad business, Padavans, bad business.
So, I received a gift card for Padavan's. It's a little place located in "New Town". I'm not going to lie, I didn't know what to expect when we walked in, but the experience turned out much better than expected.
We sat down, the place wasn't too busy at 5:30 pm on a Monday night. The waitress was very friendly and came right over to greet us. We ordered drinks and then stared at the menu for while. The menu is adorable, with different fonts for different meals and clever names for the menu items. The menu is a little hard to read at first, but it's well worth the effort if you can appreciate the cheeky style.
I ordered fish n' chips with a cup of New England clam chowder. The clam chowder was officially the best restaurant chowder I have ever had. It was spicy and flavorful with plenty of clams inside. The fish n' chips were perfectly battered and delicious all around. I was left with a smile.
My wife ordered the pasta dish with Absolute Vodka as an ingredient. It was very tasty. It may need a little salt, but that's not a problem, you may find that the taste is perfect for you.
My drink was always full and the sweet waitress was always smiling.
We have been looking for a place call our "regular" spot, and I think we found it. My wife and I both agreed this place deserves the title.
Their hours are nice too, open late and plenty of drink specials.
We will be back and I will be eating more of that clam chowder.
This place is kind of hit or miss. Ive had GREAT service and food at times, and so-so food and fair service other times. The chef is really good at what he does and his specials are usually excellant. If they are slow he sometimes comes out to chat. One time he made my sister a special dish not on the menu which was amazing! The Padavan sushi roll is out of this world! Yet, a bit overpriced.... Grady is very polite and a great waiter and bartender. He has been there since the beginning so he knows his stuff. Id recommend giving it a try to anyone in the area.
Review Source:Padavan's is a hidden gem of New Town. Â If you are in the Saint Charles area drop by and give it a try. Â Some of the best Pizza in Saint Charles and I have never had anything else off their menu I did not like. Â The clam chowder soup is always very good. Most people seem to think their sushi is amazing, I am going to say it is good but nothing to write home about. Â Then again I am kind of a sushi snob. Â Back in the early days they used to have a Sushi menu once a week and the sushi then was very good. Markus, the chef, is very nice and always a pleasure to talk to. Â For entertainment they have a few TVs, a projector, a bar top game machine and a Golden Tee Machine. Â If you are looking for a good slice of NY style pizza or just want to eat some good food in the Saint Charles area be sure to stop in, you wont be sorry!
