Came here for the Dim Sum. Â Great selection with pretty decent prices. Â The Dim Sum portions are huge, so 3 per person will have your stomach busting. Â The atmosphere is of a pretty nice Chinese restaurant and the service is really good. Â Will be back.
btw. Â They have dim sum all the time now on the menu, for the exception of 3-4 items.
I really, REALLY wanted to love the food at this little establishment, but just wasn't overly impressed.
Let's face it, I'm a food snob. If I'm going to spend any money on non-Taco Bell or Wendy's products, I want to be rocked out of my socks. I heard about the dim sum at the Palace from a co-worker, hoping that this might be a good little hole-in-the-wall that I can call my own. Sadly, it seems that it is just another average Chinese restaurant.
Now, I should clarify, the food is OK. It's just not filled with amazing flavors. It was cheap, averaging about $2 per dim sum plate. So if you are looking for a cheap meal that will fill you up, this might be the place. Just prepare your taste buds for an average lunch or dinner.
Will I be back? Sure. The people are friendly and the food is different. But I'm still looking for dim sum to fill that hole in my heart that all of the Taco Bell and Wendy's is sure to aggravate.
Well a friend took us here. From the outside it is just another strip mall opening. Parking is reasonable. It is located on north side of Evans and easy to miss, look for McDonald's next door.
Once you walk in the door surprise is huge. The dining room is large but divided making for cozy sections. The tables are well spaced so you do not feel like participating  in neighbors conversation.
This was my first visit. The service was excellent and attentive. The owner also visited tables to check. The wine and beer list is very weak. The hot tea though is excellent. All 3 of our meals  were served quickly with nice presentation. The Hot and Sour Soup was excellent. My Mongolian Beef was good although was not as spicy as I desire but know you can request hotter. All of the meat was tender. My companions both had sea food an said excellent. I wish to try the Vietnamese food which was not on lunch menu. The portions are good, expect to leave with a light lunch lite over..
Whatever yo do run or drive right on pass this Chinese restaurant.  Went to meet up with two other couples and thought it was going to be a great meal.  Ordered crab and cheese wontons which never touched  near a crab and tasted seriously fishy... first yuk... hot and spicy soup tasted like beef barley soup with chewy pork and plenty of sugar... second yuk. Ordered the chicken with cashews that were thrown on top cold.  Chicken was .. ok.. but celery barely touched the cooking pan along with hard uncooked carrots.  third yuk and pushed food away.  When they bring the check which will be the quickest thing they bring, they hover nearby to see and pick up  ticket before we even think about leaving the table.  We counted 3 times they tried to pick it up when we had not signed the credit card bill, can you say RUUUUUDE!   I love Chinese food , but they really ruined it for me.  I should have run south to Arapahoe and University to Shanghi, which I have never had a bad meal, no matter what I order and the soup is hot and tastey!!!
Review Source:All the food was good. The wait-staff all work together apparently because different people kept filling up are glasses. That was a nice touch.
We all shared the Thai noodle plate which was not that good. Probably the fresh sqeezed lime. Just didn't please the palate. The Miongolian Beef and the Sesame chicken on the other hand was the Bomb dot com! That means...delish!
They gave us this really yummy pot of tea. They really knew how to steep that tea because it had no bitter after taste like with some other teas. Portions were nice and service was excellent.
I'll...We'll be back!
I work near here and had never stopped because to be honest, the aesthetics of the place from the outside were about as welcoming as cold biscuits and its name and featured fare did not inspire any curiosity. Vietnamese and Chinese and it's called Palace. Whoa, hold me back Masters of Indecision.
I wish I wouldn't have misjudged this little gem.
Why like? a few of my faves....
1) free hot tea
2) kung pao had unsalted roasted peanuts - which almost made it seem healthy
3) decent sized portion, just the right size to eat two meals
4) my friend's stir fry tofu was done perfectly - sweet, without making me feel like spoonful of sugary additive were used (and if they were, who the hell cares) and it was on the grill just the perfect amount without turning too dark
5) reasonable prices. I was confused as to why the lunch special was 10.50 and most other things were in the 7-8 range, but I'll forgive that.
6) great service - prompt delivery, just the right amount of attentive.
7) The decor is heavy on fabric, I think the chairs, tables, napkins - all fabric created a "should I be lunching here? or saving it for an occasion more deserving" but I like when people spend more than 10 mins on how to make their space their own, or at least don't copy someone else's style.
I WILL BE BACK!
Here's a review about the takeout at Palace. Â
The menu offers both Vietnamese and Chinese. Â (I personally think if they did one or the other, well, it would be a totally different review.) Â They do both in quite mediocre ways.
Lunch menu is much better than the dinner menu, for some odd reason. Â The food is fine for a simple, no frills, nothing special kind of meal.
The location is quite spectacular. Â The lobby is ginormous! Â So if big is your thing, you'll love this place.
A good friend took me out for dinner here last night for my birthday. Â I've driven past this place several times and had heard ads on the radio and have been wanting to come check this place out. I finally got my chance!
We had the Vietnamese egg rolls to start followed by sesame beef, kung pao shrimp & panko crusted tilapia. Â It was all delicious! Â I have also heard about how wonderful the dim sum is here. Â We decided last night that we would have to return for dim sum sometime.
The service was very good. Â We were never left needing anything or wondering where our server was. Â The food overall was really good. Â But, I have had better which is why it only got 4 stars. Â The Palace is definitely a quality dining experience and I hope to return for dim sum someday!
The DIM SUM gets an A+. You have to like meat, especially pork to really enjoy the dim sum menu (maybe a few vegetarian choices). The service and atmosphere is also very good. Another plus - IT'S CHEAP. Two people can get stuffed and try several items for under $20.
I've had dim sum at the Luck Yu Tea House in Hong Kong (which is suppossed to be the best), and at other cities that have a high chinese population like San Francisco and Sydney. I have to say the Palace is worth driving across town for weekend dim sum brunch.
4 stars for the Palace because:
1) It is kind of halfway between Lone Tree and Park Hill. A good place to catch up with long time friends for a fairly quite meal on a Saturday night. Although some of the older patrons still think of the Palace of old and are dressed to the gills, jeans are obviously OK.
2) Good bar and wine selection. Besides the typical cocktails, you can get little umbrella drinks and they even have a few specials of their own. The husband had a Colorado Blvd. for desert, a concoction of rum, coke, Kahlua, and cream; reminded us of a Colorado Bulldog.
3) The food is not what you would find on Federal. However, it is nicely presented slightly above average Chinese food for Denver. My friend's walnut prawns and pineapple in cream sauce were served with a beautiful radish rose.
4) The interior is as cheesy as the strip mall on Evans. But in its day, it was ever so exotic; dimly lit with ornate screens and murals painted with Chinese art. There are highly polished and carved wood panels dividing the entry from the dining room. And in the entrance a curio cabinet offering Chinese zodiac figurines for $9.00.
This is where you take Aunt Mildred from  Nebraska or Mom from Boerne, Texas and they will think it is the cat's whiskers. This is where you go back in time to when this was the best Chinese food in Denver.
Palace has a couple of distinguishing characteristics: dim sum brunch on Sundays, and their regular menu is half Chinese, half Vietnamese.
I can't speak to their dim sum, but I am sorry to report that both the Chinese and Vietnamese portions of the menu are lacking vibrance. The service parallels the menu in its just barely enough approach.
Its exterior matches its location in a cheesy strip mall on Evans, while the interior will certainly remind you of the Imperial, the Palace's sister restaurant.
Alas, it seems I'll never find outstanding Chinese food east of Federal!
No MSG.
