Get four stars for the rooftop bar, tables, and atmosphere. NOT for the food or drinks. Great view of downtown Charleston. Heating lamps for the cool fall and winter temperatures. Outside seating area, with umbrellas to block the sun in the summer months. Drinks are pricey not to great, but you pay for the view, and the atmosphere. Poolside bar also, and rooftop of course. Plexy glass in between the tables for privacy of sound, but does not mess up the view.

Drinks are overpriced and watery. View and ambience mean you should probably go once anyway. It was a nice place to sit for an hour before dinner and take in the breeze. The service was pleasant and attentive. I don't know that I would go back rather than checking out the seemingly many other Charleston rooftop options.

As others have said very expensive ,so enjoy the view. We live in Charleston and there are plenty of other places that are just as amazing.By the way they will not let men in with sandles on their feet after 9:30 only women.GO FIGURE!!!

Good view. A pool near the bar. Okay beer and drink selection. Good for a quick stop by, then move on to other places in town to enjoy better food and beverages at a fraction of the cost.

Came early afternoon Sat waited almost 10 minutes just for somebody to come and greet our table then they said they would be back In a few brought menus.  Took drink orders 5 minutes later still no drinks ( it was just wine)  ask where our drinks were a deer in the head lights look then I insisted she finally went and ask they had not fix them (2 bartenders and not that busy)   Finally drinks and ordered food 20 minutes into getting there 25 minutes after that still no food empty glasses no body checking on us wave waitress  over for more drinks 5 minutes later food arrives ( I think that had to go kill the cow for the burger). Food was so so service was really bad other than the view would not recommend. All the wait staff and I do mean all, do not smile and are not friendly ( am I  this the south or in Paris)

Come for afternoon drinks and a beautiful view.  Bring lots of money.

$15 dirty martini - delicious blue cheese stuffed olives
Tuna tower - delicious  (would come back for that)

Amazing views but very pricey! I do like the service, our waitress was very polite and never rushed us. The drinks were tasty but not amazing.

We had an excellent experience on the rooftop during a recent stay in Charleston. Tables were limited but Junior and Dave were great behind the bar. Gorgeous views,  loved the spicy Bloody Mary, my husband enjoyed the margaritas. Pleasant afternoon during our weekend away from home in Kentucky. It's always nice to have good hospitality and beautiful sights to behold!

Located on top of the Market Pavilion hotel...  I unknowingly caught a special and got a $50 food/drink certificate to use on premises when I checked into the hotel for the night in the offseason.  The bar -- enclosed with flame heaters-- provides a neat vantage point from the epicenter of downtown, right above the historic Charleston market.  Everything on the menu is pretty pricey by Charleston's standards and thus my gift certificate didn't go far-- I got a glass of Veuve Clicquot ($23) and a tuna tartare tower app ($19).  The tuna was good but the avocado in it was tinged brown, as though it had been pre-made some hours before and tucked in the fridge.  I went elsewhere for my real dinner.  But I love the hotel overall!

Pavilion Bar is a mixed bag for me, and judging by other reviews, a mixed bag for plenty of folks.  It is an upscale rooftop bar with a cool atmosphere and nice view.  Summertime, sitting on the roof having a cocktail by the infinity pool (at night sometimes they put plexi glass over the pool and turn it into a dance floor) feels luxurious and it damn well better for the price of the drinks.  As others have mentioned, I have had problems with drinks not having much liquor in them, and other times I have received a good pour.  Probably depends on the bartender.  It's a nice place to stop in for a drink or two or with a date, but move on after that.  There is more to see in Charleston besides the rooftops.

I did have a particularly good time there a few years back, but it was more of the fun we created than the atmosphere of the Pavilion.  I used to be a Marketing Director for a men's formal wear chain in Charleston.  For one of my good friends Birthday's he said he wanted a group of our friends to all be outfitted in tuxes for the night and head downtown.  I helped carry out his wishes and got everyone to the shop after hours to get our group fitted and dressed (with a case of beer obviously) and we headed out for a night on the town.

Being that Pavilion Bar is known for wedding parties, we headed there first.  We felt awkward having all eyes on us as we came in but, nothing a little booze couldn't handle.  As we took the edge off with drinks, all of the patrons became interested in our party and what we were there for.  We all took turns telling people different reasons of why we were all fancied up.  We told some that is was this guy, or that guy's wedding , and I think at some point we even told people that we had just come from a funeral (not my idea).  It didn't even make sense, who wears tuxedos to a funeral?  Either way we garnered plenty of attention and most of it being from groups of females which was nice.  Before we left, our debauchery had inspired another young man to propose to his lady right there on the rooftop.  Everyone cheered, we gave our congratulations, and made our exit as to not steal the thunder of a "real" nuptial fiesta.

I guess what I am saying here, is to get tuxedo's on and go to Pavilion Bar.  You will have a blast!

This place is overrated and way too snobby for me. The drinks are overpriced. The view is only good if you go to one end of the rooftop. My husband and I went here to see the sunset on our anniversary trip to Charleston and were disappointed. Everyone was just seated at tables or the bar and weren't really into mingling so it was awkward to stand around the people seated at the tables where the good view was. Needless to say we left and went to Vendue rooftop bar where the prices were much better and the crowd was more laid back.

I loved this rooftop bar! I was very impressed that there was an establishment like this in downtown Charleston: an expected, pleasant surprise. The view was absolutely gorgeous, you are able to see the water and parts of the city. All the decor looked clean and new. And the rooftop bar was an elevator ride away from our room? Done and done.

If you look through the reviews here some people complain about pricing but I found it to be very comparable to Miami/LV/NYC. Granted, it is downtown Charleston, but I appreciate that this venue is trying, because view-wise its rooftop is right on par with other major rooftops around the country. The bartenders were fantastic, especially Cheryl. She dealt with our wedding group with fun and finesse, and I know some of the guys in the group can be a handful. We were here multiple times across multiple days, if that's any indication.

The food was good as well:

    -tuna tower (tuna tartare)
    -flatbread
    -ribeye skewers

The tuna tower was my favorite bite, with fresh tuna, fresh avocado, hints of soy sauce and something sweet too.

The next time I am in downtown Charleston I will definitely be back up on Market Pavilion's rooftop.

What a cool bar!  Very upscale and relaxing.  It was recommended by friends, so we made a point to visit.  We sipped on dirty maryinis in the pool side lounge chairs.  All the tables were taken, but the large space keeps it from being too crowded.  I loved the blue cheese in our olives---unique, tasty kick to out drinks.  I'd go back when I have more time and can enjoy sitting under an umbrella!

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.  This place has a nice view but that's it. The hotel is beautiful and the rooftop bar definately has a ways to go in meeting that standard.
When you first walk out it appears nice...however , we sat at the bar...and the bar smells. Bad. They need to pressure clean the whole thing. It was nauseating. Second, the music is very loud. Old 80's rock. Not relaxing & it's played over a cheap stereo system that sounded tin-ny & grated on my nerves. Third, the fans over the bar are prob great on a hot day. But at night they were overpowering and unnecessary. The food was average at best. They should use a linen napkin folded in half as a place mat to serve the food on.The drinks were nothing to write home about. Overall, the view was nice but the place felt dirty and disappointing.

Ritz Carlton view and concept with Days Inn service standards.  Such a beautiful hotel should embark on a vigorous campaign to improve service standards to mirror the decor, ambiance and stunning views.

First, the rooftop bar should be reserved for hotel guests, even if for limited hours during the day.  Here you are sunbathing with a group of drunken 20+ ogling your wife---not good.     Either be exclusive or appeal to the masses, in which case keep the service standards, put your staff in flip flops and change your theme.   Music by the pool is not consistent with the theme and is overpowering.

We stayed on the concierge level which was beautiful and the only spot where the service was noticeably excellent.  Oddly, enough we will go back and I would still recommend to stay there.  The location is A+

Meh. If this place didn't have the view, it would just be an overpriced douche lounge. The deserts were good, but not great, and probably about 30% overpriced. I didn't bother ordering any of the mixed drinks because spending $14 on a mojito doesn't make any sense unless it comes with an actual Cuban cigar, sandwich or person.

I went on a Sunday, so unfortunately, I was not impressed with the people watching.

We had a wonderful time...for about 20 minutes until a group of drunk 30-somethings crashed it and made an ass out of themselves. But before then, it was great! While my drink was way too sweet (I tried one of their punches) the views can't be beat, and the fire heat lamps all around made me forget it was nearly 40 degrees out. (No seriously, I think they might have burned my hair.)
So seeming that it gets packed at night, I think it would be best to check the bar out earlier on in the evening, before someone gets wasted and falls into their rooftop pool.

Pros: great view, good setup (the gas heaters are like fancy flame throwers).

Cons: way overpriced drinks ($14 for a call brand cocktail?!?), servers and staff could not care less if they tried.  I think I would have preferred a snotty attitude over the pure apathy exhibited by the employees.  A note to the doormen: calling cabs is part of your job description, not a favor.

Vendue is a much better choice (unless you are trying hard to impress someone).

Best views in town.  Come for sunset.  It's even open during the winter with cool heaters available to each table.

Yes the drinks are disappointing but that's not the point.

    Ha Ha!

Tried it FOUR times to be fair.
I'll list the bad shtuff first.

#1. Amazing view of all the rooftop air conditioning units in the city!
    Oooooooooh!

    #2. Candyass weak drinks.
This sugar-water comes in flavors so sweet and sickly, only a 3rd grader could possibly enjoy them. And after three 17 dollar weak drinks, the 3rd grader would still be sober enough to drive.

    #3 Worst Margarita Ever.
All the best flavors of furniture polish and low, low, LOW end Tequila.

    #4 Hey, what's with the 3/4s of a pint Pint !?
    Fill the glass you tightass!

    You Should Come Here If...
    - You or your girl has fake tan, fake tits, dyed hair, oversized jewelry, or oversized hair.
    - You haven't been out much and are easily impressed.
    - You can't handle your alcohol and need drinks with zero alcohol.
    - Trying to impress a bimbo? It might happen.

While the views were great, the prices of the drinks were high, the bar crowded and the ambiance felt like Vegas designed for the 40+ demographic.  I'd recommend other rooftop or patio bars in Charleston.

This place SUCKS!!  Gerald, the manager, is the main reason why.  I came here with friends to celebrate a bachelorette party.  It came highly recommended so we were all excited to check this place out.  It was definitely disappointing.

S-super overpriced drinks.  I paid $9 for a vodka cranberry, which didn't have any vodka in it.  (I'll get to that later.)
U-ultra snotty manager... Gerald, that's you.
C-cool DJ is the ONLY reason why this review get's one star.
K-keep it up and you'll have no business
S-seriously need over to overhaul customer service

Here's what happened.  My friend and I both ordered vodka drinks from the same bartender.  We asked for our drinks to be poured in tall glasses so that we wouldn't spill them on other patrons when we were dancing.  We watched the bartender make the drinks and didn't see him put ANY vodka in them.  We asked, "where's the vodka?" and he said that it comes from the tap connected to the bar.  Really?  In my 10 years of going out, I've NEVER seen a bar pour vodka from the tap?  So, we paid for our drinks and gave a nice tip only to find out that it was in fact, water that he added to our drinks.

Well, my friend took her drink back to the bar and hers was immediately switched to a Stella Artois but, when I went to exchange mine, I was ignored for 6 minutes.  Then I heard my bartender talking with the manager about me trying to exchange my drink (even though he had yet to acknowledge my presence).  To which the manager replied, "That's fine.  Just cut them off.  Don't serve them."  WHAT???

So, I went over to speak with the manager myself.  Gerald tried to explain the dynamics of making drinks to me.  Then he tried to tell me that "if it's good vodka, that you can't taste it".  Uh, thanks for the lesson, bruh.  When I told him that I would like to exchange my drink for the cheapest beer in the house, he flat out said no.  Then when I asked him why he said "just cut them off."  He flat out denied it.  He argued with me, was condescending and just rude.

I ended up giving back my drink, and telling them to keep my money.

I'll never go here again.  If you do decide to go here and deal with all the bullshit, order wine or beer.  They can't mess that up, right?

You know that scene in Animal House where the crew rolls in to see Otis and they know they are out of place before the door shuts behind them?  Yep, that's how I felt here.

Sure the view of the harbor and city is probably as good as it gets.  Rooftop bar with pool, bar, chaise lounges and six top tables.  Poor design.  The pool area takes up most of the crowded rooftop.  The tables were mostly half filled, but all taken.  This led to that annoying hovering of vultures when we finally snagged one.  It took a long time for our server to get us menus, then probably a half hour before we had our round.  The vultures inched ever closer as our beers disappeared and just about had picked our bones clean when the server showed up with the bill that was actually ours.  They may have been sitting at our table before we were done.  Ridiculously overpriced too.

Come for the views and unrivaled people watching.  Debutantes, cougars, gold diggers, sugar daddys and Ken dolls with interchangeable polos, chinos and boat shoes.  And I don't want you and I don't need you.  Couldn't have put it better, MM.  Outta here.

Beautiful rooftop bar ... but ... why is a (small) glass of mediocre, sparkling rose $16? That kind of ruined the mood for me. My husband was smarter than I - he ordered a mojito, and it was a generous pour - I should have ordered the same. It was very tasty. Also, I don't like that the drinks are served in plastic "glasses." I'm guessing they can't serve drinks in glass in an outdoor setting, but I am not a fan of drinking white wine (my second drink of the night) out of a plastic wine cup.

Sorry, couldn't get into it.  Something about paying over $10 for a martini didn't sit well with me.  The view was cool and infinity pool was nice, but I felt way out of place up there.  Maybe if I win the lottery, I'll go back...  maybe not.  Until then, I'll brown bag it on top of the parking garage across the street.

I must say the Pavilion Bar has some wonderful views, however true to Anthony Bourdain's theory, the view is inversely proportional to the quality of the food.  In our case we did not indulge in the food here as we had a lunch res at Magnolia's, but if the drinks are any indication, we made the right call.  I ordered a Guiness, which was served in a plastic glass (I should have known better), but there were no beers on tap here.  The mixed drinks were just average at best.  However, I can't knock the service, because our server was helpful and attentive.  I'd go here to savor the sun and admire the views, but keep AB's mantra in mind next time you're considering an ocean front mecca.

Brrrrr. Yep, it's a december night on a rootop in Charleston and it's cold. Evening really. And the view from the top of this place is amazing, apart from the fact that it really only offers three sides of view. The other patrons of the place are amazingly friendly which I attribute to great southern hospitality. I order a can of Guiness because it's cold and I'm thinking of a comforting beer. Please waitress! Don't flip the can open and quickly pour it into a glass a flip the empty into the garbage! Oh my. What a waste of a nice irish beer! I survived it, only because I was looking out over the city and that relaxed me. But only as much..
On a warm day, this would be THE place to enjoy a drink in Charlestown. And on a warm day, I'll be back.

On a weekday happy hour, the bar is crowded, but plenty of seating made finding a table easy. There is a fairly substantial bar menu, table service, and smoking is allowed. The music was 80s pop (think Wham!) and the crowd was varied from people in jeans to dressed-up yuppies, with an wide age range. The facility also appear handicapped accessible and we saw a handful of individuals in wheelchairs.

It was a fairly mellow scene (minus the music) and the views of the city and water were gorgeous. It's a good spot to spend an hour or so before dinner.

The one downfall and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the poor beer selection. If you want something other than the standard American 5 beers (e.g., Bud, Bud Lite) or anything more exotic than Corona (which was their only foreign/non-lager), you're out of luck.

A real happy plus for me was the presence of power outlets at each table. They're for the umbrella lights, but it was day time and they weren't plugged in yet, so I got a chance to juice up my iPhone!

My husband and I spent a sunny Sunday wandering around our amazing town, decided to grab a late lunch and landed at the Pavilion Rooftop Bar.  It was sunny and warm for early February and our timing was perfect- only 3 or 4 other tables were occupied.  The menu is great for lunch, a good mix of hearty appetizers, fresh and interesting salads and filling entrees.

We ordered the blue cheese/jalapeno/pineapple fries as an app.  I am not a huge waffle fry fan, but these were unique and we gobbled them down.  The peppers added a perfect kick to the dish, not too hot, and the spicy/sweet/tart flavor blend worked really well on top of the fries.  YUM!  Be warned, the portion was enormous and would be better suited for 4.

We ordered a veggie wrap for my entree and the Kobe beef burger (med-rare) for his, both with salads as a side.  The veggie wrap was good not great and the hummus gave the "filling" an odd consistency.  But the burger... omg, the burger.  Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, perfectly topped.  It was, in a word, perfect.  I am not a vegetarian because of burgers like this.  De-lish!

Bottom Line:  This is a fun spot for an afternoon in the sun, eating some wondeful food, with a spectacular view.  The service and the food was very good.  We didn't have drinks, but if it was a Saturday, we may have spent all afternoon there, frosty beer (or Firefly Sweet Tea) in hand, watching the world go by.  We'll go back for sure, and we'll take our out-of-town guests with us.

This is a decent stop for drinks if you like rooftop bars.  Decent service, drink pours are fairly small, but the food menu is quite tasty -- sandwiches are reasonable and large, and on my last visit we were served a giant plate of duck nachos.  Awesome.

After traipsing all over Charleston, the group of vacationing friends my fiance and I were with decided on this bar after seeing the rooftop setting from afar.  We sat down at a table to order but quickly hurried to the bar to escape a sudden rain shower.  From the time we ordered our lunch to the time we received it was something like an hour to an hour and a half.  NOTHING is that spectacular, but if you decide to stop in definitely try the beer battered scallops (the appetizer which actually was delivered in a timely fashion teasing the rest of our party who waited the rest of the time to eat anything).

nice view at this rooftop bar, above a fancy hotel near market hall. couple of fruity, punchy drinks on the bar menu - great for a sweltering day like today. there's also a pool on the roof but it's for hotel guests only - i thought this was kinda weird since it meant non-hotel guests can go up to the roof, get silly on spiked punches, and watch girls in bikinis frolic in the water.
