A wait? Not for this chick. I have not had to wait more than 5 minutes. As a matter of fact, it is rare I wait at all. The staff is very friendly, the restaurant is clean and spacious and the food is super yummy. I love authentic food, and although it is not traditional, it is very close. The drinks are fabulous and they have a lovely decor. Plenty of parking is a big plus since it is very popular.
Review Source:Sad day for my family. Â We've loved Pedro's foods for over 25 years. Â Mid Spring we noticed a difference in flavor and food preparation: Â the brown enchilada sauce was sweet and pinkish colored rather than having that wonderful brown, earthy enchilada sauce flavor we loved. Â Two weeks ago, we ordered steak fajitas. Â The steak had little to no fajita flavor or juices and was placed with the veggies on a dry plate. Â We always enjoyed hearing the fajita sizzle as it made its way to our table; this time no sizzle, no juices and no smoky aroma! Â We did order a sample of the enchilada sauce, but it was still sweet and pinkish in color. Â The last time we ordered enchiladas, we brought them home and scraped the sauce off into the garbage. Â In the last four months, we have been back three times, all three times we've been very disappointed. Â The prices have gone up too. Â In the past, since we have been regular customers at Pedros, we know what 'used to be;' now we sadly taste the 'current difference.' Â We will gladly pay for GOOD Mexican food, but Good-Bye Pedros for now until they bring back to the traditional recipes.
Review Source:MEXICAN FOOD. YUM!!! Price.... Not so yum.
My chicken chimichanga was so delicious!! Came with side of Spanish rice and I chose black beans. Mmmmm. Plus guacamole and sour cream... Price of $13? Quite pricey I would say!
But it was so good... I devoured all of it. Chicken chimichanga all the way if its your first time!
So sad. Pedro's used to be my favorite restaurant. I used to crave their chicken burrito. It would have this yummy sauce drizzled all over this soft tortilla. I can't even describe how good it was. Went there tonight and they had changed their whole menu. Ordered the chicken burrito, and it was soooo bland. No sauce. Just a plain burrito that you could get off of any old burrito truck. Blech! We used to go there all the time, but I have no interest in going back now. Oh well. :(
Review Source:They refused to seat us in a booth and placed us in a awkward spot near the entry way.
Ordered steak nachos and with a yelp check in we got free cheese nachos. Bf ordered burrito. Took 35 minutes to get our food and they were not busy from what  I could tell. Portion sizes were small and we were deeply disappointed.
Quality of the food was just ok, not worth the price.
Service was really bad and it took awhile to get the check and to go boxes.
I went here with my girlfriend. I went to this restaurant based on the reviews. The first problem was the service really bad. We were pretty much ignored because there was a large party near us and all the attention was focused on them. We ended up having to ask other people to help us.
The food was horrible. We both ordered cheese enchiladas. We both thought there would only be cheese inside. We were wrong... Besides the cheese there were onions and olives... On the menu there was nothing said about anything else inside the cheese enchilada. We ended up having them sent back. The only food that was good was the chips and salsa.
If you do plan to go do not sit near a large party and only eat the chips and salsa
First experience here.
The good: The atmosphere, inside and out. The food, starting with the chips and the main course. The staff was fast and polite.
The bad: Its in Santa Clara, I live in Gilroy :(.
The ugly: nothing.
Final word: the place looks great. Food was amazing. This place puts more chips and salsa on a table than any other Mexican restaurant. The staff was helpful. As the "Dos Equis most interesting man in the world" would say.... I don't always eat in Santa Clara, but when I do, I prefer Pedro's.
This review is for the new menu at Pedro's, which has ruined my all-time favorite dish.
So, so sad to be saying good-bye to one of my favorite restaurants for 20+ years. Â I'm feeling such a pang of loss.
No, the restaurant isn't closing (that I know of).  This loss stems from the sort of  "why can't they just leave the good things alone?" changes that  make you feel sad and powerless ... like finding out that the company that makes your favorite candy bar is going out of business, or that that theatre you love is being torn down to make room for yet another Safeway.
I was introduced to Pedro's by my co-workers at one of my very first jobs in Santa Clara ... and even while my career took me to far-flung corners of the Bay Area, I've regularly made a point of coming back for just one thing -- my all-time favorite dish EVER -- Pedros' Enchiladas Las Hadas. Â A truly delicious crab and shrimp enchilada with a wonderful cream sauce and sliced avocados. Â
I have happily ordered this wonderful, wonderful entree since my first meal at Pedro's. Â I usually, in fact, order extras to go. Â :-)
But no more. Â About a year ago, I bounced blithely in on my birthday, ordered my favorite dish, and was horrified to find when I cut into it that the inside had completely changed. Â Now, instead of pure, delicious crab and shrimp, my beloved enchiladas appeared to have been "cut" with a whole lot of filler -- like onions, chiles, cheese, and I don't know what all else. Â The taste was completely different, and utterly spoiled for me.
At the time, I expressed my shock and disappointment to a manager, who assured me that the kitchen could "continue to make it the old way" for me, and that I should just ask when I ordered. Â This worked for many months, and I was SO relieved ... but yesterday, I discovered the end had finally come. Â The menu changes have now been formalized in a new menu and set into stone. Â I asked the waitress if the kitchen could still make the dish "the old way," and she went to ask, but returned to tell me that since the enchiladas are all pre-made now, there was no way to remove the filler items that I didn't want.
So ... like Vivian N, I'm just very sad. Â It's the end of an era for me. Â I don't understand why the recipes for long-standing favorites on the menu had to be messed with. Â If the chef wants to create and rotate in new dishes to keep things "fresh," "trendy," or "healthy," that's great -- but did he have to take favorites away from very long-standing and loyal customers?
I know there are far, far worse things in the world than losing one of your favorites restaurants and entrees. Â But I'm still depressed. Â I sat there yesterday eating chips and staring out the window of my favorite booth and thinking, wow, I can't believe it, but this is probably the last time I'll ever come to what used to be my favorite place. Â
So I guess I'll just end by saying, Thank you, Pedro's, for many, MANY years of delicious Enchiladas Las Hadas. Â And thanks, too, to several decades of wonderful servers and endlessly cheerful hosts, hostesses, and bussers, as well as the hard-working folks in the kitchen. Â You all gave me a lot of happiness for a lot of years. Â I'll miss you!
Aww Pedro's, my go-to place for Sunday Mimosas and brunch. Great buffet style set up ranging from traditional Mexican (menudo, pozole, etc) to American food and more. And deserts, my god, I almost went into diabetic coma!!! The atmosphere is great, mariachi walking around, kids playing with balloons that were given to them, and mimosas, never ending and fantastic!!!! A little pricey, but worth it!
Just a warning, come with an empty stomach and be ready to eat!
I had never been to this location but had been to the one in Los Gatos several times.. Generally, I'd say the service was inferior but the food was better.
Regarding the food, I was shocked how fresh and delicious the chicken was. I ordered the fajitas and it was very good. My wife for a chicken burrito and her impression was exactly the same. We also tried nachos with some beans. Tasty. The chips and salsa are also abdicating as hell and they keep them flowing.
I came in with a group of 6. Because I have a 2 week old son that is basically an alarm waiting to go off, I called ahead and asked for a reservation. They told me they didn't do reservations but there was no wait. I drove right down and got there less than 10 minutes later at 9:00pm. Of course, we were the only ones waiting for a hostess..... Who told us there was a 10 minute wait. Even when I mentioned I was just told we could have a table, they didn't budge.
We were then sat and, to make a long story short, we went through 8 baskets of chips between the 6 of us before asked what we wanted to order. The funny thing is me and a friend ordered a beer... We didn't get it until about 15 minutes after everyone else got theirs and when I asked for them, she went and got them from a counter where they had been waiting. They were not ice cold.
All in all, I likely won't return. There are too many good places in the Bay Area to frequent restaurants that really are not valuing their customers like they should.
A sad day to Pedro's Restaurant. Â
Went there with my bf tonight, and the restaurant had new placemats and the menus changed. Â
Our favorite dish is the Fajita Salad that came with a taco shell, and marinated meat with wine sauce. Â The waiter indicated that they had a new manager / chef that had changed alot of the recipes for a more 'healthier' dish. Â
When we saw our plate, we noticed that they changed the romaine lettuce to a cheaper iceberg lettuce! Â Second, they took away the taco tortilla shell. Â However, most importantly, the steak no longer had the wine marinade, and the flavor of the steak was not the same as the previous chef. Â Furthermore, they cheapened the dish, but increased the price!!! Â
My bf and I were both disappointed in learning that the new manager is someone who comes from NY and changed up the entire menu! Â I hope that the owners take the time to read their reviews on yelp, and will return the original fajita steak salad back to the menu.
I love this place. My family has been coming here for years and we absolutely love the Sunday brunch. I do miss the old one, for the old schoolers, there used to be one where Yummy Buffet is off Capitol. Anyways, great service we always get seated quickly or a short wait. Food is great and have no complaints. Mariachi bands during brunch too. My fav!
Review Source:I've been to Pedro's at least a dozen times in the last year. I've always found their Mexican food to be the best in the area and that has not changed. For all of the Mexican places I eat at , this still ranks as the best in the South Bay for me. Their combo plates are very good - hey, we're not talking 2 Michelin stars-type food here - but they've recently changed chefs and the food has taken a decided jump upwards. The fajitas are quite good. Â I also strongly recommend the salmon on polenta dish (with mole sauce). Probably the best meal I've ever had in a Mexican restaurant. Their margarita menu is very good (although they ditched my favorite, the old Basil Margarita) although I think you're much better off getting a pitcher, as the individual drinks are a little expensive. Just make sure you can take a cab home.
The best thing is that the place is a rambling big joint that never seems to be too full of people to be able to seat you. It's also dripping with atmosphere, which is really unusual for the sterile Santa Clara environment in which Pedro's is situated. Great place to take a date. Pedro's is one of the few things I unreservedly like about Silicon Valley. Recommended.
I was very disappointed. Â Went for lunch with some co-workers. Â We sat for a long time before our waiter even talked to us. Â We all ordered the same thing, with black beans, and were brought the same thing, with refried beans. Â Umm, didn't you notice the mistake in the kitchen before you brought our plates? Â The food portions were really small and for the price? Â This place is rated $$ but $13.00 a plate for lunch is not medium priced. Sorry! Â The food was not even that good, it was mediocre at best! Â I won't be going back!
Review Source:I went in a large group for a friend's birthday lunch. We were seated almost immediately. First thing that struck me was the beautiful ambiance.
We thoroughly enjoyed the chips and salsa and they might have got several rounds before we couldn't take anymore. One probably insignificant thing we noticed was the inconsistency in the heat of the salsa.
I got the chicken ranchero, first few bites and I was in heaven! Before I could dig in more I noticed the large amount of grease dripping from the dish. I removed the oil before digging in further. Barring that, the chicken was exceptional. I would go back to this place just for that one dish!
Anyway, getting back to the rest of the dishes, I managed to taste a little from my friend's plates and all the dishes were reasonably good.
They got us a complimentary dessert as it was my friend's birthday. We realize nothing comes for free and the prices of the freebies are all included somewhere but we had a very pleasant experience and would definitely visit again.
We bring my sister here every year for her birthday sunday brunch buffet. The outside looks like an old adobe style mansion. It's absolutely beautiful. The interior is spacious and very well decorated. It is comfortable and relaxing.
We are always seated promptly at a comfortable and relaxing table. They immediately bring us water, chips, and salsa. The chips and salsa are the best we've ever had anywhere.
The first item we start with is their fresh made omelet's. They have a nice variety of items you can choose from and then they cook it up fresh right in front of you. They also have four different salsas that you can top your omelet with. All of them yummy!
The second round is trying all the different Mexican dishes that are lined up and smell so good. Some of the dishes are just average but they seem to have mastered mixing spices perfectly, which makes up for any lack of perfection.
Final round is dessert and boy do they have a sweet selection -- especially the cakes!!!
We hope to continue to have a great experience each year that we return. Why don't we come more often? The food is delicious but not very healthy and loaded with calories. ;-)
This review is for happy hour only.
The service was pretty much the worst.
Appetizers were ok. The nachos were the best option and the mole taquitos are the only reason I gave this a two instead of a one. Margaritas could have been stronger, but are at least a decent deal if you get a pitcher.
Wow! Where should I start? A couple of days ago I felt like eating Mexican food. I went to Pedro's with my wife and man was it awesome! The food was very tasty, portion size was very good and the ambiance was excellent.
Our waiter, Dogaberto, was impeccable. He was kind, honest, fast, patient and very courteous. He deserves a raise or a promotion! He is the type of waiter that makes you want to go back to the restaurant because of his professional service and personal touch. Muchas Gracias Dagoberto!
I would definitely recommend Pedro's to my friends!
I visited this place on two occasions and found the service mediocre and the food just OK.
Sunday brunch was nothing special except for the outrageous $25 price tag. It is a champagne brunch but the food selection is tiny, tasteless, and the beverage service is very very slow. There is a plus side to the buffet - there are lots of sweets and desserts.
My second visit was during Happy Hour (M-F 4-7pm). The bar area has cute booths and a single large seating area. If you want either of these seating areas come early. If you come late you can stand around the bar or take a seat on a bar stool. They have an all-you-can-eat chips and salsa bar and $3 appetizers. The drink specials are posted on the white board as you enter so make sure you read it before coming in. I took a quick snap shot before sitting down. It made it easier to recall the specials with a large group. The margaritas are very strong and the pitcher prices are a great deal too. Our cocktail waitress was not around much which made it hard to order drinks or food. I recommend having your entire order ready and flagging her down when you need to order. She will probably visit your table only once unless you find her near the bar and ask her for more drinks or food.
A great happy hour spot. Free, unlimited chips (scoop them yourself) and salsa (average spice level). The $17 happy hour margarita pitchers (lemon, strawberry, etc) are strong creepers as well. The outside area looks like you've been transported to Mexico and the inside is cool as well, with comfy seats and lots of TV's to watch sports. My only wish is the TV's were in HD, makes sports 100x better. The $3 food happy hour menu is awesome as well, how can you go wrong with taquitos or tacos or fish empanadas for $3.
I heard they used to give free wings and tacos, not anymore. But I'll take the chips all day.
Although I understand mistakes with meals will happen time to time, what I have difficulty with is management's lackadaisical attitude towards addressing the issue.
On Friday, my family and I visited Pedro's Mexican Restaurant in Santa Clara. Â I ordered the Tostada Carnitas but what came was Carnitas Tacos. Â As soon as I mentioned the error, our waitress promptly recognized the mistake, apologized and returned the meal to the kitchen. Â After a few moments later, she returned with the correct plate.
A few moments after she left, I noticed that the meal appeared to be ala cart. Â Although the menu pointed out rice and beans, the meal was simply the Tostada, Â In all honestly, it looked as though the kitchen quickly took parts off one plate and created a new plate.
I called the waitress back and pointed out the plate. Â I said I don't want it sent back to the kitchen again, but I also did not expect to pay the full price for an entree when I was given an ala carte meal. Â She said she would speak with her manager.
After dinner, the bill came and I was charged the full price so I asked to speak to the manager directly. Â The manager comes over to the table and right away gives off a negative vibe as that I am really causing her an issues. Â (I haven't even said a word.) Â She asks me what the problem is and I explain about the taco mix up, the return of food, the ala carte and her response was the meal does NOT come with rice or beans. Â I pointed out that was not what the menu indicated and she shrugged and said the menu was wrong.
The manager ultimately comped $3 off the meal, but the attitude she demonstrated from the moment she arrived at our table was disappointing. Â I certainly wasn't looking for a free meal, but I would have liked to see some accountability as to the mistake that happened and a little bit of genuine concern.
Only came here for Happy Hour, but what a great Happy Hour it was! There were 5 of us and we split 2 margarita pitchers which were each $17. So about $7 per person for 2 margaritas?! Doesn't get much better than that. The free food was also a plus. Chips and salsa were better than the wings and nacho french fries.
This place gets really crowded pretty fast, but the bar area is large so we didn't have a problem finding a table even though we got there at 5:30 (Groups were already leaving by that time since the Happy Hour hours are so long!)
I am excited to come back to another happy hour here. Only wish that they had sangria on the HH menu as well.
Happy hour is definitely the big draw for Pedro's, but you definitely need to secure seats early as it can get crowded as early as 4:00pm. Â It's good for large groups, and the free apps don't hurt, either (even though they're not especially tasty?).
It's probably the most convenient place for my old teammates (whom I love and miss!) to come and hang out after work. :) Â Hopefully they'll invite me to the next HH!
First time ever going to this place at Happy Hour & let me tell you...it was a freakin' zoo! LOL. It gets sooo crowded around this time...probably because of the free appetizers! LOL
I would definitely go back maybe earlier in the day or later in the evening after the happy hour rush to enjoy the ambiance, the food and so I can hear myself think!
The Strawberry & Peach margaritas (buy the pitcher if you have a group of 3+ more people, $24 per pitcher get more for your buck)... & they are pretty bomb dot com too! If you like them stronger, I would recommend the margarita on the rocks (pitcher) has a better kick. I would totally recommend this place to others especially if they don't mind the craziness at Happy Hour. :)
Wow first time here since 1997.
I used to come here all the time with the secretaries at Cisco Systems.
We partied hard back then.
The restaraunt is pretty much the same, Chips and Salsa and decent mexican food.
I would not say this place is the best food ever by far, and I have many other mexican restaraunts I enjoy more, but we were in and out in about an hour and that is pretty good in this area for sure.
Pedro's is a great place for lunch or dinner. The parking is fairly convenient, and tables are generally always available. Their margaritas are delicious, and their food is satisfying. I recommend the steak soft tacos, or the chicken enchiladas.
The service at Pedro's is always friendly, but inconsistent. Sometimes it seems like they completely ignore your table, sometimes they are completely attentive. Service is likely to be slow if they are hosting a large party. Most of the time, this issue does not negatively impact my dining experience. As long as they keep the margaritas flowing and the chips fully stocked, I am a happy customer.
I only come here for lunch with my coworkers. This place is a weird, magical restaurant because no matter what time or what day it is or how many people are in your party, there is ALWAYS a table available. My team has come here so many times and we think it's weird that we seem to be put in a new spot every time. This restaurant is like a weird vortex of endless space, I swear.
They also do take-out so we've had many a dinner here too.
I cannot ever stop myself from eating their chips and salsa, it's ridiculously addicting here.
We've come here so often I've gone through a cycle of favorites. Started my first year of accounting loving the salmon yucatan, second year of accounting was the chimichanga, and now I'm a regular for splitting the fish tacos and the carne asada tacos.
Basically the carne asada taco is like a small steak cut into strips wrapped with a flour tortilla
This place also made me love arnold palmers.
I highly recommend this place for lunch, since you will never have to wait for a table. Service is great considering how many people they're serving at a given time.
Everytime I go to Pedro's, I never get disappointed. Â For the longest time, i've always went to the one in Los Gatos -- yet it never dawned upon me that there was one right next to 101 near Great America. Â
I went here during Christmas break with the girlfriend and the family and was able to leave very satisfied. Â We both shared a combo plate which was actually very reasonable for a lunch time meal. Â We got the burrito, taco, and tamale. Â The burrito and tamale was alright, kind of on the bland side, but the taco was friggin' phenomenal. Â We also ordered as an appetizer the nachos (thanks to a yelp check in).
Anyways, very reasonable price wise and good quality food.
