After several ownership changes, this restaurant location continues to disappoint. Â Unfortunately, the City of Sierra Madre cannot seem to draw a quality restaurant to a beautiful foothill community. Â Do not waste the money on the Chicken Picatta. Â I found that the dish was salty, wet, and sliding in a lemon juice "fresh" from the plastic squeeze bottle. Â The service however was courteous and pleasant. Â The chef (or cafeteria cook, if you will) does not seem to have any pride in his presentations. I'm sorry for the staff and owner.
Review Source:My wife and I read a nice review of The Peppertree Grill in a local paper and decided to give it a shot, knowing that any number of new start-up restaurants in this town had been very disappointing. Â NOT Peppertree! Â From the warm greeting we received on entry through the superb service we received at our table from Meghan, it was a wonderful experience. Â The food was superb - my wife had the Argentinian Skirt Steak, I had Beef Ravioli. Â We were drooling over the dessert menu from the start - and had to make some difficult choices, coming down in favor of the Apple Tartan and Bread Pudding. Â Again - five stars. Â Their desserts are all made on-site. Â And to wrap the entire "date night" experience up in a warm, melodic bow for us, background folk and soft rock music was performed with great skill by Len Mendoza, who we were very pleased to hear is a regular there every Saturday night.
The best thing we can say is - we're going back NEXT Saturday. Â To continue our exploration of the menu, enjoyment of the ambience, and love of the music.
My friend and I decided to check this place out last night and it was amazing! Lots of great beer options and the empanadas are to die for! We also had deviled eggs which were amazing!
The staff was very attentive and friendly and the vibe and atmosphere of the place was very relaxed.
Someone above stated the owner as a lady, but they are wrong. The owner is Ryan and he was very friendly and came to check on how we were doing. I had been to T.Boyles and I love all the changes he has made.
Anyways back go the food! Â We also order the piccata which was delicious and a Cesar salad which was really good especially with their homemade croutons!
I definitely recommend this place to everyone and I will absolutely come back again to try more food.
He also stated that there will be a band playing tonight! I'll have to go and check that out!!
We were so happily surprised!  Finally a good restaurant in Sierra Madre.  I don't know what it is about this town, but good restaurants are hard to come by.  Tonight was our first time at the Peppertree.  We were greeted at the door by a friendly hostess and seated immediately.  We ordered the special:  Sea scallops and veggies over pasta and my husband ordered the beef ravioli.  Both meals were excellent!  We were worried by some of the reviews written about over salted food--not a problem for us at all.  The scallops were cooked perfectly and the pasta was lovely, as were the veggies.  My husband's ravioli was tender and the beef filling was very tasty.  We were encouraged to try the homemade cheesecake, which our family shared.  Everyone loved it!  All in all the experience was probably the best we've had in this adorable little town.  Four stars because they are still working on the decor, but  all in all the Peppertree Grill did not disappoint!
Review Source:I have now had 2 wonderful meals at this restaurant . Â The breakfast was great, I had eggs Benedict and the potatoes were out of site with the seasoning. Â Then a week later I went for dinner, everything was delicious . I love the taco nite on Tuesdays . Also, they have a great big bar. This restaurant has great customer service, a must try!!
Review Source:Walked to this restaurant on a Sunday morning to eat for the first time, we visited the bar previously for happy hour and were very unimpressed, hoped this time it would be better. Not crowded at all and were sat quickly. Â Our waiter took our drink order pretty fast but we heard him yell the order in to the bartender 5 minutes later. Â The service was overall slow, especially for it being not very busy, and the numerous employees seemed to be standing around doing nothing most of the time.
The food was better than we thought it would be based on the service we were getting. Â I got the Papa's Special (hamburger patty, eggs and potatoes) and was pleased with it, especially since I don't usually care for breakfast. My gf got the eggs benedict and was also happy with it. Â
Sundays are $5 sangria day so I had to try one. Â I'm no sangria expert by any means but I've had some tasty ones over my life and this was not one of them. Only fruit in it was a tiny orange slice and a sigle cherry!
May sound like an overall bad review but the food was good enough this time that we will go back, at least once more, to try something else.
Love this food! Â The empanadas are great. Â Taco Tuesday is a wonderful value. Â There is a wide variety of dishes on the menu. Â I have enjoyed the steak, and am looking forward to trying the salads and quiche.
I loved the Eggs Benedict at brunch, along with a most generous Mimosa.
The owner, Ryan, grew up in the restaurant business, and he really knows his stuff.
All the servers I have encountered have been terrific, but you are in for a real treat if you are lucky enough to be seated in Dennis' section. Â He was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very special. Â He was happy to make recommendations, which I always appreciate.
If there is a sporting event you want to see, chances are it will already be playing on one of the many televisions.
The small negative thing here is that the restaurant is very loud. Â When I mentioned this to Ryan, he indicated that he is working on that. Â I believe he has only been open for a month, so I am sure it will improve with time.
There is something for everyone here, with a warm, friendly atmosphere, generous drinks, and great food!
Argentina is famous for its great beef and this place serves it right. Â On my first visit I fell in love with the beef empanadas, served hot, a rich savory ground beef and potato stew wrapped and sealed in a light crust curled on one end. For me this is a meal in itself and be sure and dip in the rich popular emerald green chimichurri sauce.
The menu is full of other surprises such as five kinds of Quiche, seven kinds of omlette, breakfast served until 1:00, Burgers, latin sandwiches such as chori pan, pastas, and of course the heavy hitter Argentine cuts of beef including the monster "Parrillada" which is a sampler of this unique style.
The wine list is sparse considering the great beef but growing and as my friend said "it is hard to find a good rose".
Service is friendly and efficient and my server "Megan" was a delight.
Ambiance is somewhat Spartan and the cement floor could be slippery if wet. Only open a few weeks, management is still working on décor.
In summary, this place is a winner. Located again in the lovely community of Sierra Madre at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. Sierra Madre says, "Welcome back".
Sierra Madre is also a dog friendly community and you and your canine friend can enjoy the view from the outside seating in front.
Bottom line...$60 for salt: NOT interested in going back. Â
Food has good flavors and portions are decent. However, the chef had a very heavy-hand for salt. Clam chowder, Caballo, and the Short Ribs were very very salty.
We were not looking for free food nor were we going to make effort to complain about our dissatisfaction. The decison was to pay and go to In-N-Out. However, the waitress asked how the meal was and we spoke the truth. The manager/owner randomly walked by and asked how about the meal and we spoke the truth.
Here's why i will never go back:
The manager/owner's (lady) response was... Do you eat salt? Because, Argentinians eat really salty food.
Umm... Yes, we eat salt and this is not our first time eating Argentinian, but okay. Argentinian food has never been this salty. The lady removes herself from the situation without returning for closure.
What is the purpose of asking about the food if they can't handle the possibilty of consumer dissatisfaction?
It's a gamble if you ask me.
The food is great, and the staff very friendly. Â It is nice to see a family run, locally owned business in Sierra Madre start off so well. The Matambre was delicious and just the right amount of food to share or eat solo. Â My friends and I will be returning. Â A great local hangout.
Review Source:The Peppertree Grill is back! Yay! A new location with a positive twist! Â It's been open for about 3 weeks, and I've been back 4 times. Â Among my favorites : Â chicken bowl, Argentinian empanadas , Â taco Tuesday fish , chicken, and asada tacos. Â The environment is fun and family friendly. Â The owners are wonderful! Â The staff is great. Â I'm glad to see Dennis return:). Also, Â it was nice to see Kevin as the bartender. Â The vibe is positive. Â By the way the chimichurri sauce & salsa is fab!
Review Source:Boy Howdy! Dare I say that my bros and I just found a new place to call "our spot"!??!?! I THINK WE HAVE!!!! Now I'm not here to boss you around, but here's what I would do if I were you. Go to The Peppertree Grill. Chat it up with their workers, as they are very friendly. On that note, the new ownership has done wonders for this location. It blows the last two businesses that were there out of the water. Anywho... you should probably get a chicken bowl. That's what I got and it rocked. I also stole a couple bites of my buddy's empanada. WOW! As you can tell, I will be back to this joint many times over. See you there.
