I'm going to direct the blues / swamp pop / local BR music fan to Phil Brady's. Â It's enough of a dive for me to fall in love. Â And enough of a night clubish atmosphere to get up and dance!
I saw the Ned Fasullo band there w/ adult siblings and their significant others. Â Great big band dancing by a mixed crowd of old timers and young-uns. Oh, and the cougars were on the prowl that night. Â One in our party got trapped dancing with a particularly tipsy one, the couger hit the pavement in the middle of the song... Observer yells "MAN DOWN!" A fine night, I say!
Be prepared to party, and bring / reserve a DD. Â You won't want to limit your freedom!
I give it a 4, because I still can't get past the fact that Tabby's Blues Box is gone (closed in 2004: Read more at <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebr.lib.la.us%2Freference%2Fourafamlegacy%2Foaal_peopleandplaces%2Fplaces%2Ftabbys_blues_box.htm&s=8301f4a6e97c35f847b130bc6eb3ae588cafeb9b2521e270b2ac8a055661c739" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.ebr.lib.la.us…</a>) You just can't beat Tabby's Thursday night Hoo Doo party in downtown BR before there was a downtown Baton Rouge when it comes to the blues.
These days though, if you want to catch up with Tabby and some of his famous friends, Â I hear tell that Phil Brady's might be one of your best chances. Â Maybe I need to give up the past and give Phil Brady's a 5. Â But its so haaaaaarrrrdd.... to say gooodbyyyyeeee.... to yesterdaaaaaaaAAY.
