Review Source:I have only been here a few times, but I liked the grandma pizza. It's nice that they offer a lot of pizzas by the slice. The salad are okay.
Stay clear of the brownies and chocolate chip cookies. The look really good, but you will be disappointed.
The service is excellent. The servers do their best to make your experience at Pizza Shop enjoyable.
After moving to Newburgh 3 years ago, I've been looking long and hard trying to find 'that' pizza place. Previously we lived in Monroe for many years, which had more than a few excellent pizzerias, but somehow I just haven't found any in the Newburgh area, other than a couple of places, that really delivered quality, consistent, pizza. About a year or so ago, I happened to stumble upon Pizza Shop while out at the Newburgh Waterfront, and went in to take a menu, but for whatever reason just never went back. I have been told by some locals friends that it is quite good, so have been meaning to stop in. This past weekend my friend from Brooklyn was up, and we were out and about visiting some historical sites around town, and with our last stop at Washington's Headquarters in front of us but hungry stomachs growling, we decided to stop in and have some slices at Pizza Shop.
Overlooking the Hudson River and situated in an old Railroad station, Pizza Shop is a nice place to eat and looks great too. When you walk in, there's a small seating and standing area located in front of a large case filled with gourmet pizzas, strombolis, calzones, drinks, and various desserts. In the back in a large dining room, as well as outdoor patio. So, the ambience is quite good. I opted for a Mini Meatball square slice and a Margherita slice. The Mini Meatball was quite tasty, with exceptional tomato sauce that was obviously home made, just the right amount of cheese, and tangy little meatballs (wish there were more of them on it!), all sitting on top of a thin crust. The Margherita slice was exceptional, again with that zesty sauce and loads of fresh basil, mozarella and parmesan cheese. This was a round pie but also of the thinner crust variety. Service was great and the manager even came over to our table and talked with us for quite a bit, offering some history on the restaurant.
I even went back the next day and got some stuff for takeout so my wife could try. We samples two of the small stombolis, one with chicken, sundried tomatoes, olives, artichoke hearts, and mozarrella, the other with sauteed spinach, garlic, and cheese. Both were excellent, with a light, flaky outside crust seasoned with parmesan cheese, garlic, and parsley, and with a side of that delicious tomato sauce for dipping. We each shared a slice of the excellent Margherita pie and were quite content.
Yes, I've found my new favorite pizza joint in Newburgh! The menu is quite extensive, so there are numerous gourmet pies as well as more traditional pizzas, sandwiches, rolls, pasta entrees, and much more, and the prices are affordable.
Stopped into "Pizza Shop" after a day of site seeing in Newburgh, and pizza was the perfect "hit the spot" lunch idea. Â My friends live up here now and had not yet been to this establishment so it was a mission of sating ones hunger and of discovery at the same time.
Visually this is a very nice place. Â You have a few standing tables in front of the counter and a back dining room with larger tables and a little bit more room to stretch out. Â Since we are on a time schedule, we both opted for the standing tables. Â
I ordered a meatball slice which was on a square pie kind of pizza and had three small meatballs on it. Â I also had the buffalo chicken slice which was done up in the conventional style. Â The dough on each of these slices was nice and crispy and the sauce just perfect. Â The buffalo slice was not overloaded with buffalo sauce and yet just the right amount for a good kick. Â The only downside was my view that the meatball slice could have had more meatballs to it. Â Perhaps they should just slice them into halves which allows better placement and gives more perceived value. Â
Our server was a very sweet young lady who was both friendly and accomodating. Â She served our pizza to us at the tables with a smile and made sure we didn't need anything else. Â Now being from Brooklyn makes me a bit of a study when it comes to pizza but I had to say that this was a winning choice and one that I hope succeeds in this location. Â I don't get to Newburgh often but I will surely try to visit the Pizza Shop if I am there any time soon.
Pizza is above average and the young staff is generally attentive. Â The location is nice as you can sit outdoors and have a view of the Hudson. Â The historic building you are in, a railroad station closed 50 years ago, is also nice. Â The postcards all over the restuarant walls make for an interesting read. Â The prices are fair too. Â The name of the place needs to change. Â A proper noun would help. I recommend the place and expect to return.
Review Source:This is one of the better pizza places I have been to in recent years. Â The location, an old train station, is rather eclectic & charming. Â The vintage-style pictures give this place a lot of character & are interesting to look at. Â From the windows, there are nice views of the waterfront. Â I've enjoyed just about all of the food I have tried here, especially the mozzarella bombs, the zucchini & olive pizza, & the tomato fresco pizza. Â The only issue I've had with the food is sometimes it is served to you warm rather than hot. Â For the most part, the service is friendly & prompt, Â with the wait staff making sure everything is good & that you have what you need. Â If you're looking for a friendly, quick pizza joint with tasty food and nice views, then try this place.
Review Source:From the minute you walk into the historically renovated train station the scent of pizza draws you in. Â I choose the meatball sliders and followed with pizza from their amazing selection of gourmet topping! Â The sliders are amazing an interesting twist on an Italian classic. Â For dessert comfort food all the way with chocolate chip cookies and rice Krispy treats. Â Next time we plan to hit one of the shows next door at the Railroad Playhouse and dinner at the Pizza Shop.
Review Source:I saw this place was open one day while driving by and it looked pretty nice, so when I was around the area today with a craving for pizza I decided to stop in for a bite.
I was definitely not disappointed!
I was pleasantly surprised how nice it was and that there was a restaurant section (with a patio for seating outside for nicer days) and I was happy to satisfy my pizza and beer craving sitting at a nice table.
I went with a group of friends and we had:
Garlic loaf - very tasty mozzarella!
Buffalo chicken slice - nice balance, buffalo on chicken and not all over the pizza so it's not overpowering, I didn't need any blue cheese
Chicken & broccoli calzone - very tasty!
Chicken park (grilled) - the pasta was cooked perfectly! And the chicken and sauce were delicious!
And 2 House filled cannoli - THESE STOLE THE SHOW --
I've been to many a fine bakery in nyc and these were come of THE BEST CANNOLI I'VE EVER HAD!!!! I will go back there just for another cannoli FOR SURE!!!
I definitely recommend this for anyone looking for good food. They offer gift cards and accept Mount Money if you attend the Mount.
I only wish it was a little bigger, and the parking was better, but other than that, I love this place!
Finally made my way back for seconds to the Pizza Shop and it's a really nice joint. Â I'm sticking with my 4 star review because though it was really nice it wasn't worth my stingy 5 star rating which I try to reserve like a gem (giving my 5 stars value with their rarity).
Food is probably spot on at a 4 star rating. Â We had the original review take-out but returned to dine-in having some hero's. Â The bread they serve sandwiches on is similar to fancy NYC bread which I really don't care for and would have preferred regular fresh baked Italian bread. Â Otherwise the actual taste of our hot sandwiches was very good.
Indoor seating is limited with more limited outdoor seating, I know that sounds contradictory with a double portion of "limited" seating but if it's raining or cold out seating becomes quickly limited indoors. Â On a clear day seating should be ample with both indoor & outdoor combined. Â Overall not a bad spot at all and certainly worth the visit for a casual lunch or dinner.
Pizza Shop is a great new addition to the Newburgh restaurant scene.
The Location:
Pizza Shop is in an amazingly restored train station overlooking the river. They did a great job with the renovations and decor. Parking can be a little difficult on Water St, almost impossible if you're driving South on Water St, if you are you should turn left just before Pizza Shop and loop around to come out by Gully's and turn right. As people in the area know the tracks this old train station are along is no longer used for passenger trains, only freight, they did a very good job sound proofing, you can barely hear the train going by.
The Food:
Pizza Shop has some of the best pizza and other Italian dishes in the area. They have a great variety of gourmet toppings, a lot of stuff is made in house such as the chicken cutlets and the potato chips they serve with their sandwiches. There is a lot of stuff on their menu I'm looking forward to trying, but everything I've had so far has been amazing.
