Eh.  I went for lunch and ordered a cup of soup and a chicken parm dinner.  The chicken lentil soup was no doubt out of a commercial can, with salty chicken and mushy veggies.  The chicken parm was served atop linguine with a lifeless red sauce and was most  likely the pre-breaded freezer variety.  Which explains why I got a mouthful of plastic wrapper in the sauce. Â
This is the sort of restaurant the world could do without.
I took the family out to Poor Henry's expecting a casual, inexpensive dinner for the family. Â I was repeatedly disappointed throughout the experience.
Poor Henry's bills itself as a 'family' restaurant, but it's really a pub that happens to have a kitchen and some tables. Â The waitresses are competent, but not professional. Â We had to continually remind our waitress for water refills, napkins, silverware, dressings, etc. Â All were accommodated for, but a pro would have anticipated those needs.
The food was very disappointing. Â Nothing terrible, but nothing terribly good, either. Â The fish and chips were straight out of Mrs. Paul's freezer. Â Extremely small portion and quite tasteless. Â Came with a teaspoon side of tartar sauce, which wasn't enough even for that paltry portion.
My wife's corned beef Ruben was apparently robbed of most of it's meat before it got to our table. Â Very thin sandwich, forgettable corned beef, and mediocre fries. Â Served with a teaspoon side of Russian dressing. Â Our 2 children had the kids meals -- standard grilled cheese and pasta with butter sauce. Â My wife and I each had one beer.
Oh, and when my wife ran out of Russian dressing after her first bite, she reached for the Gulden's mustard jar on the table. Â Opened it and found someone else's sandwich remnants. Â Crumbs of bread, corned beef, sour kraut, were in the jar. Â YUCK!! Â Switch to squeeze bottles, please!
Any ventures to guess the bill? Â Fish & Chips, a Ruben, 2 kids meals, and 2 beers: Â just over $70. Â Really...? Â Really?
Gone once, and that's all, folks. Â We left hungry and feeling quite ripped off.
This is a Boonton/Montville landmark in my opinion. I have been going here since I was pretty much born (1980). Back in the day they were also known for king crab legs. Love the atmosphere of this place. Classic old tavern with a simple menu. Love the salad bar too! Going there March 20th for a 5 course Beer pairing dinner. Will have an update shortly on the food.
