The chicken's good, but not I've been to better locations. The red beans and rice were sort of bland-ish. And the size of the pieces weren't all that. Flavor wise though, it's not bad. The one thing that was really on point? The biscuits.
I really want to order seafood from the menu sometimes, but I stick to the chicken because I'm in the Midwest and I can get better quality seafood back home in Houston.
It's in a decent spot. If I come here for lunch and sit facing the window, there is always something going on. You'll see an interesting bunch of people.
I have to say, though, that it's weird that there's no public restroom.
First legit time having popeyes. It was typical chain, greasy fried chicken - nothing special about it.
We had a coupon from online we used and they honored it with no problem. They also explained to us what the coupon entails.
filling lunch for $9 between 2 people. Small space - it's combined with a hot dog joint.
Well I love Popeye's Red Beans & Rice but this location has horrible food. the red beans and rice was running and had an acidic smell and taste. the fries were dried up, burnt and possibly refried after sitting out for a while. the only good thing was the new chicken...
i will wait til i get back to the southside over to 35th & king drive or 47th & cottage to order popeyes...
This is not a good Popeye's. Â Or maybe Popeye's in general sucks. Â But the chicken was dry and the tenders were so tough that it hurt my teeth. Â It's like a dog chewing on a treat. Â I'm sorry, but I wouldn't even give this to a homeless guy. Â Go find a KFC instead or just don't do it at all.
Review Source:Ugh. Every once in a blue, blue moon I need some chicken nuggets from popeyes for lunch. Paired with red beans and rice and a biscuit is just fine when the craving hits, thank you very much.
But this one disappoints me every single time I walk in the door.
1) Its busy. Cramped in with Gold Coast Dogs, and lots of loop folks on their lunch break like me, its busy. And MAN do I feel rushed all the time.
2) Its Dirty. I just feel like everything in this place is grimy as hell. Seriously- I don't know why, but I always want to touch as little as possible and get a squirt of hand sanitizer on the way out. I need to buy a mini bottle of that stuff.
3) BAIT AND SWITCH. So, this has happened to me not once, not twice, but 3 times- I order the 6 piece nugget meal. It's $5.29, according to the board. It always rings up as $5.99. (the 9 piece nugget meal) Today, I alerted the manager to the problem. I have this funny feeling that this is not going to change, though. Check your receipts here, guys.
4) I took my order to go today. Got back to the office- no napkins. No spork for the beans/rice. No butter or honey for the biscuit. (I asked) BOO. And they always fold the bag in at the top? huh?
I will come back- I have to. It's the closest Popeyes in the loop to my office. And when a girl needs chicken, a girl needs chicken. But I couldn't suffer this on a regular basis. Buyer beware...
It's a popeyes that's neither worse of better than any other popeye's I've been to, save for the pricing, which is a tad on the high side.
Fairly good chicken, but if you want great chicken, check out Micky's on Clark for some bitchin chicken fingers and wings and the Harold's near Columbia for everything else chicken-related. There's also a JJ Fish and Chicken on Adams.
It's the only Popeye's in the loop that is easy to (illegally) park next to and is open semi-late (8:30PM, by loop standards). Â The chicken had meat and was crispy. Â So, that was good. Â I've been to other Popeye's with all skin chicken, no meat. Â It shared space with Gold Coast Hotdogs.
I'll go back again when we need some cajun cravings... better than fried chicken at dominick's or KFC.
