I have a complete love affair with potbellys. You get a hot toasted sandwich with melted cheese. I usually get their wreck or a TKY with everything. You can't beat the price either. $4 for a skinny or $5.30 for a wreck. The giardinera makes the sandwich complete. I'm glad I don't live nearby one because otherwise i would be a total fatty! Perfect for lunch, and even though it can get super crowded around lunch time, the sandwiches are made fast along by their nice employees.
Review Source:I like this Potbelly location because it is never too busy and the staff makes the sandwiches quickly. Â My standby is the normal turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Â Can't go wrong with that. Â I like the selection of Zapp's chips--bbq is my favorite. Â I also like the macaroni salad and that it comes in a small serving size, just enough as a side for lunch and a bit for the next day too. Â I usually come here at least once a week...they also have a talented musician who plays here during the lunch hour sometimes.
Review Source:I've always been a fan of Potbelly, and I'll just say that if you live around Chicago and style haven't checked on out, then you should do so now. Â They're probably my favorite chain for toasted/hot sandwiches.
My recommendations re either The Wreck (I think it's their signature sub), or the Mushroom Melt (Order a veggie if you want the same thing but larger)
Also, if you're already a regular I'd recommend trying the new Mash drink they have. It's a pomegranate and berry drink that's absolutely delicious (although a little pricey). Â They told me it's a local drink so I'll have to hunt down where it comes from. Â
A big plus is the fact that they offer "smalls" - sandwiches with less bread and less ingredients. Â Helpful if you're on a diet because you can have something pretty tasty with less than 400 calories. Â On the flip side they also offer "Bigs" if you've got a hungrier side. Â
The service is pretty quick, but the line does get pretty bogged down during lunch time, so I usually try going around 2ish when the crowd has died down.
Other than that it's a chain so there isn't too much to say. Â Unlike other potbelly's, this one doesn't have a fancy new coke machine, so don't expect that. Â But you should be having the pomegranate Mash anyways. Â
Oh, and delicious cookies. Â Probably the best out of all the sandwich shops that offer cookies.
How do I love my Potbelly tuna sub? Â Let me count the ways:
I love it completely cold.
I love it with just the bread toasted.
I love it as a full-on melt.
I love it with tomatoes.
I love it with lettuce.
I love it with onions.
I love it completely cold with tomatoes, lettuce and onions.
I love it with.... you get the point.
The only thing I've ever ordered from here is the tuna sub. Â It will continue to be the only thing I order from Potbelly. Â I crave it. Â It is the most delicious tuna sub ever. Â Go there. Â Eat it. Â Judge for yourself!
And as an added challenge, I dare you to resist the freshly baked cookies-the-size-of-your-face at the register. Â Mmmmmmm.
I love cooking, but i'm not good at it. Finally took the time to take a jab (...or is it a stab?) at learning, instead of experimenting at home. This is where i learned where quantity is important, not just getting the feel of how much of certain ingredients go in a dish. Â It's like an art where there's an instant reward for doing things right, or doing things the proper way. Of course, it doesn't mean that you should quit experimenting, because hey, there's fried Koolaid and Krispy creme chicken burgers right? ewww, but i actually wanna try those things.
Review Source:This place is a well-oiled machine. Â Judging by the look of the line-out-the-door popularity, I might have refrained from getting a sandwich there, given all the amazing food in Chi-town, but a friend of mine assured me it would be a cool experience, and she was right. Â For what it is, Potbelly is a four star sandwich place. Â My only qualm is that it can be pretty overwhelming to look up at the menus and choose something and then answer all the questions the "engineers" throw at you, so BE READY!
Review Source:i have not had potbellys in forever...walking along the sidewalk i see the sign poking out at me....i knew i had to go back there for "the wreck"
i love this sandwich on wheat bead. they toast it perfectly and tastes better and better every single time.
the prices are great. decent size meal. the atmosphere is always poppin. although i the one in champaign, il has a loft that would allow independent artists to go up on and play their music which this location does not offer. that always made my potbelly experience better...i love listening to people play their banjo or ukulele while im eating....
I enjoy this chain sandwich shop from time to time. 5 bucks flat for a regular turkey & swiss on wheat.
The lines are long during the lunch rush but they're pretty quick. Really friendly people behind the counter.
Good luck finding seating in the sea full of LaSalle Street suits - or just take your sammy to go.
Like Josh M. said - the giardiniera is a fantastic touch. Yum-yum. I even added it to my turkey sammich.
What can I say? Â Potbelly's is stellar. Â The sandwiches are tasty, they're cheap, they're toasted, and this is a great Potbelly's. Â I've been here countless times and the food is wonderful. Â Fortunately, there's at least one Potbelly's in Austin, but I haven't been yet. Â It is comforting knowing it's here though. Â The best thing about Potbelly's, however, is their cookies. Â They're cheap, super tasty, and huge. Â I'm not a cookie eater, but these are irresistible. Â You rock Potbelly's.
Review Source:I MISS POTBELLY!! i wish they had one in Cali...This place had such great sandwiches...warm yummy and always hit the spot on a windy day. Â I've had the italian, vegetarian and the wreck sandwiches....and you have to get the peppers with it cause it makes it so great! Even if the lines were long, who cares....it was always worth the wait :)
subway who?
I have been to quite a few potbelly's around Chicago and OMG I heart this place! My rating is for the entire company since I don't remember which ones I've been to. Â My first visit was a few years ago when I visited a friend who was at Northwestern. She took me there the first day I was there and I loved it so much we went the next 3 days. Â
I particularly love their peppers, its such a nice added touch to a wonderfully delicious sandwich. I don't think you can go wrong with any of their sandwiches. This place is now a staple every time I go to Chi...Don't forget the shake too! Yummy.
My favorite sandwich chain.
Yes, they make sandwiches. Â Yes, they make many kinds of sandwiches, and feature meats and cheeses that almost certainly includes something you will like on a sandwich. Â They are fine, wholesome ingredients, toasted perfectly on decent bread.
There are two key factors that put them ahead for life in my opinion:
1. Â CHEAP. Â Seriously. Â The Midway Airport location is cheaper than a town Quiznos in California. Â A regular Potbelly is cheaper still.
2. Giardiniera. Â In the pecking order of sandwich vegetable options, the crown rests here. Â Above olives, jalapenos, pepperoncinis, and, yes, even the banana pepper. Â It lends heat and substance to the sandwich.
Just like our union, 13 states is not enough. Please expand westward (without somehow reducing your quality) PSW!
Gawd I wish they had a Potbelly out here in LA. Â I would eat here all the time for lunch. Â I'm craving the deliciousness of their sandwiches and getting hungrier as I type this.
Hands down...get the MEATBALL SANDWICH. Â I swear the combination of the flavor of the meat with the marinara sauce/provolone cheese is perfect with the soft, but slightly toasty bread it is served with. Â Yes, it was around $4.50 for a sandwich and not as good of a deal (versus Subway), but seriously I'm willing to pay a little extra for quality over quantity. Â
I also tried A Wreck, but would probably ask for a little less mustard, mayo, and Italian oil/dressing. Â It was dripping up a storm by the time I got to eat my half. Â
I'm just sad that I didn't get to try any of their milkshakes. Â That would've been a good combo to have with my Meatball Sandwich.
Potbelly please open up in LA. Â I will LOVE you forever.
Another day, another lunch with the always chic Annie T. Â While I am fairly familiar with Potbelly due to its presence in the hated rival city of Ann Arbor, I have never actually been. Annie T. and her divine knowledge of all things food suggested that I give it a try and leave my hatred from U of M at the door. Â
While I wouldn't say I was jumping over the moon for the sandwiches at Potbelly, I mean seemed like your basic deli menu, it wasn't awful, in fact it was pretty tasty. I love the upstairs, its a cool setting to eat a sandwich at and kind of makes it feel more upscale than it actually is. However I despised the lame musician singing alanis morisette? or whatever depressing angst ridden tune it was. Â Besides attempting to block out the tunes while savoring my food, I would give Potbelly another shot. I just hope they consider expanding their menu, I mean Subway has more variety.
Hungry before a broadway musical in Chicago? Swing on into Potbelly Sandwiches. It was by far the least expensive meal I've had while visiting Chicago; however, the price does not equate the taste. Â
Had "A Wreck" sandwich with everything. No need for chips, just a drink. Definitely scrum-diddly-umptious.
A Potbelly location that's only a 3 minute walk from my office? THERE IS A GOD and He loves me-- BIG TIME.
My friend Amber and I grabbed lunch today and sat outside to savor our chicken salad salads. Throw chicken salad, craisins, cucumbers, tomatoes, croutons and greens into a bowl, mix it with their house vinaigrette and simply call it HEAVEN ON EARTH.
I also love love love their subs-- the Italian and Pizza are my favs. Be sure to ask for some ranch to dip your za in. Scrumptious. Their luscious shakes also come with a cute little cookie on the straw.
I can't complain having this quickie lunch spot so close to work and the outdoor seating is nice for sunny days. Love you, Potbelly!
While part of me rebels at being so fond of a chain place, this is my favorite lunch in River North. The sandwiches are good (and there are actually several veggie options), they have Nantucket Nectars and I am horribly addicted to their Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies. All in all, I end up eating here at least twice a week. The staff is lovely and friendly while also not overbearing (i.e. if you just need a mental break and don't want to talk, they don't seem to take it amiss).
Review Source:my brother brought me here when i was visiting from Austin. Â he said, "you will try this place and then hate Subway". Â
so. very. true.
i had the "Wreck" (minus salami) and it was just so perfectly toasted, just the right amount of mustard and veggies. Â excellent with a cold glass bottle of grape soda and a bag of bbq chips.
i went home dreaming about how delicious my sandwich was, and on the day that we were moving from Austin to Des Moines, what did I drive past but a freaking Potbelly's. Â i've been living in Austin almost 2 years, and on the DAY I MOVED away, i spotted a Potbelly's. Â
some luck, eh?
Great food, great customer service. Patient with my friend who had never been there before. We were there on a Saturday afternoon. Â As we we were eating, other people came in who were obviously regulars, and the staff was as warm and welcoming to them as they had been to us.
This is a GREAT alternative to the sit-down restaurants in the area after an afternoon of shopping or sight seeing.
Snuggled amid much larger businesses on La Salle, this Potbelly's is usually calmer than the riotous one at the Merchandise Mart. Â
Turkey on skinny wheat, no cheese, is my personal favorite. Â If you order your sandwich "skinny" they cut a small slice of bread out of the middle so it's not so heavy. Â
The mustard is nicely spicy. Â Pickles are made in-house and have a slight rawness to them that some people don't like. Â But everything else is always fresh and it's fun to hear customers behind you order while you're waiting for your lunch to pass through the toaster.
My only complaint is the staff can be "overly" friendly. Â They force you to engage in conversation about nonsense even on days when I'm going out of my way to project that I'd rather just snooze in line like the corporate zombie that I pretend not to be. Â But hey, there are worse things in life. Like Boston Market.
Subway and Quizno's have nothing on Potbelly. I succumbed to the sandwich shop when I was suddenly aware of my growing hunger after roaming Nordstrom's downtown.
Being alone and in need of a fast meal, I gave Potbelly a shot. Problem is I never cared to pay for sandwiches or anything I can fix for myself (Italian and breakfast comes to mind) but like I said, I caved.
Because I was new to it, and there's a long line behind me, I didn't want to linger on my decision. I asked the staff what she recommends. I couldn't believe my ears when she said chicken salad. Come on. Talk about paying for something I can get easily! But I gave in.
And I loved it. Creamy, meaty on a wonderfully toasted bread. It's sandwich bliss.
I heeded a yelper's recommendation on their shakes. It's not awful, but I can get Shake n Steak's for cheaper.
I will certainly heed one reviewer's advice to snag that at O'hare before plunking down for an unhealthy McD's.
There is something special about Potbelly. Trust me, I worked there for four years. I even started at this location a long, long time ago.
I always thought this location had a unique feel to it. It is a bigger Potbelly among the Potbelly family. It has a front dining room, a back dining room, and even an upstairs! Yes! An upstairs dining room! It is rather neat eating above people, and you are eye to eye with the local musician who usually plays Mon-Fri 11am-3pm. So catch a seat quickly.
I love the sandwiches from Potbelly. Try the Turkey. It usually comes with swiss cheese, but I get American. Just because it is a little bit tastier for my taste buds. I love all the toppings from the menu (no mayo please, extra mustard) The hot peppers are great, you can even take a jar home with you!
Just so you know this location does have breakfast. If you aren't familiar  with the breakfast menu, just go to the website...much easier than me trying to describe all of it. And about four months ago, most Potbelly locations have added salads to their menus for people who are veggie eaters or people who like to keep it light.
Enjoy this place. It is one of my favorite places to get a great lunch in Chicago. Also--two of the managers names are Moe & Joe. How fun!
Needed to grab a quick bite for lunch that was close to the office, so I just wandered into Potbelly's. Â Never heard of it before, but it looked inviting.
It's my kind of quick lunch place. Â It's easy to navigate, the prices are right, the employees seem happy to be working there, and there's a snarky granola vibe that I find endearing. Â
Tasty toasty sandwiches that can be as healthy or tubby as you want 'em. Â Â I had the sammich called "A Wreck," which was just the right amount of food for me. Â You can order your sandwiches "light", which means that you get thinner bread-- rockin' roll. Â (OK, slap me for the pun.)
I hear they have breakfast-- I'll have to give that a try.
Great place for lunch and now breakfast. Â The price is definitely right and the sandwiches oh so tasty! Â I eat here at least once a week.
Check out the free oatmeal w/ coffee purchase - all that for $1.10!!! Talk about cheap healthy breakfast!
If you want a calorie splurge- definitely go for the shakes! Â They are delicious!
Two sandwiches, two bags of chips, two sodas = less than $13.
Not to mention that it's veggie-friendly (veggie & pizza).
They had a guy playing guitar & singing today & while I usually tune them out (sometimes it's pretty awful, sometimes it's pretty good), this guy sang "Landslide" & knocked it out of the ... well ... loft area where he was.
Less stars cuz it's often really hot in there towards the back.
