Decided to check this place out because India House is under renovations and it was the closest "Indian" place. Â In the future, I think I'll walk the extra .25 miles so I can actually have traditional Indian food and decent service.
A few friends and I showed up around 7pm and were happy to find that there were a few open tables. Â The hostess informed up that she was just going to clear the table off and we'd be sat. Â
Awesome... or so we thought.
We watched the table be cleared but then the hostess didn't reappear. Â We waited a few more minutes and we were still standing waiting to be seated. Â Finally, we tracked the hostess down to be sat. Â Apparently, when she meant the table was being cleared it wasn't for us but for a reservation and that it would be another 45 minutes before we could be sat.
Sorry? Â Didn't you tell us the table was being cleared for us?
So we asked about the other open tables. Â Also for reservations.
I managed to make a reservation (thank you, smart phones) and we were sat within 5 minutes. Â The individuals that had the other reservations? Â Never showed up. Â Way to lose money there, Bombay Spice.
Of course, the hostess couldn't resist getting a condescending jab in at me: "Funny, we didn't have a reservation for you a few minutes ago. Â Did you just make a reservation on your phone to be sat? Smart phones are just dandy, aren't they?" Â Great customer service, there.
We were sat and then waited what felt like forever just for water. Â When we finally ordered, the food came quickly but that's the only thing that was timely. Â It took us quite a bit of time to track down our waitress (this is a small restaurant, it shouldn't have been that hard) and when we finally got the check and handed it back to her, it took 10 minutes for her to return. Â Bombay Spice has an appalling lack of service.
All in all, the food was okay but definitely not authentically Indian (as one reviewer stated, it's more like Noodles and Co where you pick your base, sauce, and ingredients). Â However, the horrendous service and lack of respect by waitstaff is enough to keep me away from Bombay Spice in the future.
Nice little lunch place serving westernized Indian fare. I don't usually go to less-authentic places for Indian, but Bombay Spice didn't skimp on the, well, spice... so it's fine by me!
I had the Chicken Tikka appetizer (basically Indian fajitas) with a side of brown rice. The tikka had nice flavor, the rice was perfectly cooked, and the cilantro chutney was the only cilantro chutney I've ever liked! The portions were generous too, so I was completely full with just the appetizer and rice.
I was visiting for the first time using a ridiculously thrifty Belly Bites deal, so I was a bit concerned that the staff would roll their eyes at me (we've all read the deal site horror story Yelp reviews). But I needn't have worried; the service was excellent! I also liked that they had TVs, it gives the solo luncher something to look at.
