Hubbard Inn

I met some friends here for after work cocktails and some snacks.  The bevvies were good and the apps were pretty good as well.  We had the bacon wrapped dates, which-tbh, is hard to mess up, and a couple of flatbreads.  The mushroom and asparagus flatbread was by far the best...so delicious.

This is a great option for drinks and apps.

I went to a birthday dinner for a girlfriend on sat. night.  There were 14 of us.   Really loved the food and drinks.  Especially the bacon wrapped dates, spinach goat cheese salad and bagel crusted salmon!   5 STARS ON THE FOOD AND DRINKS!

the 2 stars or low rating is for the ARTIC FREEZE you get when trying to dine!  They really need to 'winterize' the door so that we don't get blasted with the cold air everytime people come through the front door!  (the temporary door that some restaurants and bars put in so they don't freeze the patrons??)   The place is just one big room - dining area and bar so everyone gets blasted!   It was very uncomfortable to dine through this!!  and it was much worse when the "club peeps" started coming in around 10.   The doors were held open much longer....THEY SHOULD REALLY FIX THE ARTIC BLAST!!!!

Been here 3 times. Nothing bad about the cocktails, this review is strictly on food.
We got 2 drinks, small mussel plate, small tartar, and large short ribs. With tip, it came to just under $100-- NOT worth it, I'll tell you why...

Pros:
1. Great for reservations. Got in at 7:15 on a Friday
2. Short ribs. Smallish portion for a "big plate" but it was good. Too much at $20 for that small portion.

Cons:
1. They sat us in the front by the window, facing the window. It was cold as eff. Wind coming in through their not-so-well insulated window panes. Uhg.

2. We ordered 2 small plates and 1 large plate to split between the 2 of us. 10 minutes after ordering, ALL of the food came out. So, we had to pick what we wanted to eat first because everything was going to get cold... What the heck. Also, 10 minutes is way too fast for food to come out. No other restaurant has every served these types of plates together unless you specifically ask for it.

3. Mussels were horrible. I have ordered about 30 different types of mussels in the past 3 years (no joke) and these were my least favorite. Sure, they had chorizo but the flavor had no depth and the mussels smelled like horse hay. I could only eat 6 or 7 of them  before giving up. Also, another downside was that there were only about 15 mussels in there and for that price, we have gotten 24-30 other places in Chicago--- nice places too, I might add. Not impressed, I had to eat the bread to feel full.

4. Steak tartar. Nothing to write home about, small portion. Expected more.

Really expected more from you, Hubbard Inn. Make your food as good as your drinks, please..
