Got there just before the pub runners arrived on a Wednesday night. Solid beer selection, good service, good atmosphere, nice size patio. Like the other reviewers, I have to say this place seems like a great neighborhood bar. Next time, I'll be sure to try some food so I can give a more complete review (and, you know, not drink on an empty stomach again).
Review Source:Ahh, a nice bike ride around Wash Park on a Sunday.
The sun is shining.
The birds are singing.
The geese, well, are pooping.
But, is there any outdoor park in Denver that can create a smile like Wash Park on a sunny day?
If so, I have to go there.
After a few laps at the leisurely pace of 14.9 mph. (Speed limit is 15 you know)
What now?
Food?
Beer?
Mimosas?
"Hey, let's go to the Pub on Pearl."
"Wow! Never been there."
$2.00 breakfast burritos all day...and huge and good and, did I say huge and only $2.00?
$2.00 Pint sized, strong mimosas on Sunday.
What? and they have Hoegaarden by the Pint.
Just park my butt here on the patio...the sun...Denver...Sweet!
I will go back...and yes, I'll start at Wash Park...and it will visually make me smile.
This place is a great example of a "neighborhood bar". They're located only a few blocks from Wash Park and are a staple for those in the area. They have a great special ($5 AYCE) for wings on Thursday evenings. The staff has been fairly friendly in the numerous times I've been.
My biggest complaint is just that the size of the bar itself isn't that big. It is frequently crowded beyond the point of being able to grab a table or spot at the bar. Perhaps, that's just a sign that people like it that much?
Anyways, there's not a lot to draw you here unless you live close by. And fortunately for them, there's not a ton they have to compete with in the area.
I came here for brunch with my MFBFF and had bottomless PINT glasses of mimosas for $8 and a breakfast burrito the size of a small puppy.
Was the burrito good? Yeah, it was about $2 good. Was the mimosa in the pint glass strong? Hells yeah it was. Is this place a dive? To. Be. Certain.
I love this place. I go here every Thursday night for the $5 all you can eat wing special. The staff is awesome. We were given a free keg and free shots. When the kitchen closes, the pong tables open up and there's a good crowd for flip cup, beer pong, and rally. I would recommend this place to all my friends.
Review Source:Our spot for pre and post softball beers and grub. Great Tuesday special on the hamburgers plus they have Geeks Who Drink trivia going. Waitresses and bartenders are friendly and the beer is cold!
Has some good patio seating as well. Parking can be a little tight but you'll find a spot!
Cheers!
The staff can't hear you over the sound of how awesome they are.
There is a difference between busy and rude. The staff is rude, including the guy who I assumed was the manager. (Full disclosure, my last visit was Feb. '12).
But it's cool because the bar is amazingly popular and frequented by people who don't mind being treated like shit and waiting 1/2 hour for a beer even when the place isn't packed. If I were lucky enough to get a job at a place like that, I would be an asshole to the clientele also.
Their food also tastes like hot garbage.
My fiancé and I went here for the first time the other day. The beers are cheap and the bartender provided pretty good service.
The kitchen is a different story. We ordered two tacos at 4pm when the $1 taco special started. Knowing it was a cheap special I wasn't expecting anything great. We waited a half hour before asking what was taking the food so long. The bartender said the cooks were "annoying". I waited 10 more minutes and then walked back to the kitchen. I found out the health inspector was there and she was not allowing them to open the kitchen.
I'd go back here to drink, but not to eat.
We went here for a friend's birthday on Saturday. It's a pretty small bar, but wasn't too bad. I ordered the burger (because I was STARVING) and it was good. I ate the whole thing, so that's gotta mean it's pretty good--rIght? Also, they have tater tots--those were pretty tasty too.
Overall, I was satisfied with the place. However, after 9:00 PM is when the college crowd showed up...that's when I knew it was time to bounce, I'm a bit too old for that crowd anymore.
Service was pretty good, our waitress seemed to be very attentive, and she even provided us with plates for our own birthday cake.
I would go back if someone had a get together there, but wouldn't go out of my way.
Went here for a friend's birthday Saturday night and it was decent. Got there around 7pm and wasn't too busy but the music was blaring uncontrollably loud! Service was pretty attentive and several of us chose to eat some food which no one complained about. Typical bar food, burgers and wings and such with a few surprises on their menu for a dive bar type-place.
About 9pm, the college crowd showed up and it got much busier. Annnnd, the "I'm not in college anymore but I like to prey on younger girls because I'm creepy" crowd was very entertaining throughout the night LOL.
Not somewhere I would frequent but pricing wasn't too bad and would go back for a birthday or get together if that was the destination.
Man, do I love The Pub. Â Thursdays are all-you-can-eat wings for $5; and these are massive/delicious wings; so it's a solid deal. Â Lots of other specials throughout the week, too; but Thursdays are my jam.
There is outdoor seating in front and a patio out back; so when the weather's nice, that's always a great option. Â They also have 2 pool tables in the back room that they cover with plywood so patrons can play flipcup, beer pong, or whatever when its too crowded to play pool.
Finally, the nice thing about the pub is that the owners are always around, taking care of any issues, and often walking around the bar with a botte, doling out free shots. Â How can you beat that??
Usually I don't mind feeling dirty but when I'm eating somewhere I really don't dig it. I went here this past weekend and it was absolutely out of control all thanks to college basketball. The crowd was random --college kids, bikers and hippies. Maybe I'm just getting too old but inside was waaaaaay too loud for me and it just didn't seem like a place that would be blaring the LMFAO. Luckily they have a pretty sweet patio with a gorgeous view of I-25 so that option was there. There's tons of tables and used more as a place to smoke than eat as we were the only ones out there. We waited for about 15 minutes and no server came out so we had to go inside and ask for one. She came out a few minutes later and it probably would've been faster if we just ordered at the bar since she would leave for 10 minutes, take our order, bring out our food, said she was going to bring waters and then never came back. We finally had to flag her down just to pay and had to go inside to do that. I got chicken fingers and they were pretty rank but tried their sweet potato tots and they were http://bomb.com (I'm bringing the phrase back).Meh indeed, friends.
Review Source:I visit this place a few times a year for pool league. Â The food is okay. Â I've had the southwest egg rolls, chips and queso and the corn dogs with tater tots. Â I like the corn dogs and tater tots...I won't lie! Â Service in the past was pretty bad but the past few times I've been there Mandy has taken real good care of us. Â Tuesday nights are a good night to go because it's not very crowded in the pool room. Â Well, until last night. Â Someone got the great idea to cover one of the tables to allow for beer pong. Â Really? Â I think if you're going to have a pool team out of your bar, you should keep the tables available for pool. Â I wouldn't go here if it wasn't for pool leage. Â On a good note..they have a huge patio outside.
Review Source:This is a horrible bar. Food is horrible. Staff is horrible. It is dirty and not kept up on. I was trying to play pool when a bunch of kids took over one of the tables for beer pong. They were then constantly in the way of the other pool table. I will not be back, and I will warn as many people as possible about this trash hole. If it was the last place in the world that served beer I would not come here (flat beer fyi).
Review Source:Ah, Pub on Pearl. The place where yours truly made her first friends in Denver, and learned how to get properly drunk amongst friends (it only took until age 26).
About two years ago, a coworker took me to the pub on a Friday night. And I just have one word for that happening - HALLELUJAH. Almost immediately, Larry (a regular at the pub for the better part of two decades) introduced himself to me and then almost immediately invited me to join the pub's BCA pool league team. By virtue of knowing Larry, I had an automatic "in" with the rest of the regulars. It's always a wild ride with those crazy bastards.
The Pub on Pearl is another one of those places where if you go there a couple of times, the bartenders are going to remember your name. I managed to endear myself to Eric and Steve with an awesomely placed dirty joke, and I'm sure you'll find your own way as well.
There are drink and food specials every day, and for you carnivores out there - Thursday nights are $5 all-you-can-eat wings. I hear they're delicious. OH! I almost forgot - Sundays are awesome for $2 breakfast burritos (nom nom nom) and $10 bottomless mimosas. A perfect combo for sitting on one of the patios on a sunny summer day in Denver.
As of late, the DU/college crowd has started making themselves a little more known on the weekends (especially Friday nights). I suspect beer pong may have a lot to do with this. These are not my favorite nights to frequent the pub.
Regardless of its flaws and overabundance of fraternity boys and sorority girls, the Pub on Pearl will always be my first true love in Denver. And you never forget your first true love ... unless Jager is involved. Then you might forget.
Let the following narrative prepare you for the disheveled good time that is the Pub on Pearl:
Just after 7PM on a Saturday night my coworker and I sauntered the couple blocks from my abode over to The Pub on Pearl. We had no big plans for the night, just wanted to have a drink or two. Off she goes to use the restroom, and I find myself at the bar right in front of their drink special board. Fate, right? $3 Jager bombs. Yes please. First mistake out of our way, we seat ourselves and are greeted by a friendly server. She was very patient with us, and we ended up ordering a couple drafts, the queso with tater tots, and jalapeno poppers. My friend did not sit around for long, as she quickly made friends with the people playing beer pong in the back room.
"We are up next, and we are going to play the owner." We promptly order the cheapest pitcher they have (PBR) and wait our turn. The greasy bar food was perfect after a long day at work. Who knew tater tots and queso were so amazing together? After their game ends we are summoned and we set up our ten cups with college sophomore focus. We sucked. However, we played against the owner of the place and his crooked friend in a blue shirt. Literally, this guy could not stand up straight. He leaned sideways from the waist, looking like he was frozen in the beginning of some brew-inspired yoga pose. My friend was always providing distraction techniques, everything from spirit fingers to jazz dancing. Blue, in his crooked genius, decided his distraction would be to drop his jeans. I looked at my watch, it was 9:07PM. He was waddling around with just his boxers and blue shirt showing his team pride. We still lost.
They were nice enough to buy us a shot, some purple ooze under a bunch of vodka. We were supposed to drink the thing through a straw, which we did. I think playing Blue and taking this shot must have been mistakes two and three. My friend and I played a couple games of Lazer Ball (basically skee ball) and I am pretty sure the game malfunctioned every time it said there were three balls left to play. We proceeded to play more beer pong and finish off our jalapeno poppers. We lost to two blonds who were uber-competitive and then lost to two people who seemed like they had never played before. I am pretty sure my friend kept calling me out for having no game, so to prove her wrong I hit on our server as we closed out our tab. I think I got her name, asked when she worked next, introduced myself and shook her hand. No number, too drunk to remember to ask. As we walked out into the brisk night, I realized the pub was just starting to get packed with people.
Why do I explain my night in such needless detail? First, this narrative will either inspire you to discover a good local pub or turn you off from a crude and tasteless bar. Second, I never have nights like this anymore, but every once and a while this is exactly the type of trainwreck night one needs. Go here if you are ready to meet some interesting characters and pig out on a small yet tasty bar menu. The Pub on Pearl provided me with a night I will not soon forget, although I cannot quite remember every detail with sober-like precision.
I'm going to keep this short and sweet. After I was ignored for ten minutes straight at partially empty bar, and then served a "margarita" aka tall glass of sweet/sour mix with maybe half a shot of tequila in it, I think this is warranted. Also, this was my third straight bad experience. I REALLY wanted to like this place but they seem to REALLY want to drive customers away. I literally watched a couple and another guy sit at the bar, get ignored, and leave. If I had left, I would've have had less sweet/sour mix in my stomach and more money in my purse.
Pros: Nice specials, nice atmosphere during early happy hour.
Cons: RUDE staff, bad customer service, food is poor quality and tastes like it, bartenders don't know how to make drinks apparently.
Unless you have ten years to wait for crappy food and are one of those people who like people treating you like crap, skip this place. Don't waste your money or time. Unless you come on a day when the staff decides to do their jobs, you will leave unhappy.
Note to management: Get it together!
A great local bar! I really like this place. I do appreciate it more in the summer though- as they have a nice patio.
But for a corner bar right off the highway and super central for all my friends- i love it.
Good specials and cheap drinks. The food isn't too bad either, for bar food.
I love the fries and the chicken fingers aren't bad. The jalapeno poppers are pretty good too- and its all really cheap!
Bartenders and quick and the waitresses are friendly and helpful. Gets a bit crowded in the middle of the bar and hard to get through to the back, but grab a seat at the front and you are good.
I have been here a couple times now, the first time was 2 years ago on Halloween, but I really don't remember that night! haha!
Thursday night pool league, and this place WAS packed! $5 all you can eat wings really draws a crowd! who knew so many people like eating chicken wings. I mean let's face it, wings are messy, but I Â kept seeing the staff carrying stacks of wing baskets all night!!
The crowd was kinda a younger rowdy bunch, and even formed a little dance party right in front of the bathroom area... ummm not the best place for 'pants off dance off', but whatevs.
Service in the pool room was really slow, but that could be because we were "the other team".. IDK.
I went to the bar, wasn't terrible, couple of the 'tenders' were nice on the eyes :-)
Beer was cheap. Bathroom is like a broom closet. Bar had an old bar smell to it.
I will go here again.... I like this drunky dive bar.
Good drink specials. Decent food. Just a cool, neighborhood spot.
Dropped in here on a Monday night for Pool League. The specials were $4 Coronas and $3 Bud Light Wheat beers and Tequila shots. I snagged a Bud Wheat and the Fish & Chips. The Fish & Chips were pretty decent. They were better than the freezer kind, but not nearly so fabulous as Patrick Carrols, but they were passable. The fries are the shoestring soggy kind that I like, mmmm.
They've got a room in the back with a couple of pool tables, one had a noticeable lean to it, but not a huge deal. Looked like there was a cool little patio out back (the smokers patio) and a patio out front.
Our server was great, which always makes for a good experience.
This is just a cool, little neighborhood spot. Parking is not a nasty headache like it is a bit further South on Pearl. And, it's a quick hop onto the freeway to head home. So, I could definitely see myself dropping by this place again.
We came here for $5 all you can eat wings recently and to watch the start of football season with the Thursday evening games. I tried the chicken strips with tater tots and how can you go wrong with tots. They were awesome. I snuck a few wings as well and really liked the hot wing sauce. There was a huge crowd but service was friendly and fast, with cheap drink specials and even a free shot offered up after a touchdown. This place appeared to have their many regulars. Perhaps a younger crowd but fun and full of energy. Nothing mind blowing but if I lived in this 'hood I'd probably be a regular too.
Review Source:I guess the yelp "Meh. I've experienced better" really is how I feel about this place.
Came here for lunch after a hike on Saturday with my friend. The place was pretty empty, a hand full of people. I was expecting a bigger menu but there were only a few options. I got the chicken sandwich. It was ok....well I mean I could have made it at home. It was literally a chicken tender with a bun, lettuce and tomato. The price was cheap so I couldn't complain.
Seems to really cater to regulars, which clearly my friend and I weren't. O well, I'll just head somewhere else next time.
After volleyball one night at Wash park we swung by Pub on Pearl because it's apparently our sponsor bar. It happened to be a Thursday night, and they advertise All You Can Eat Wings for $5. Hard to pass up!
5 of us Swung down and grabbed a seat just inside the door. Service was prompt in getting to us, but slowed down quite a bit over the rest of the night. She was pleasant enough, but sometimes there was a big lag in between the "Order" and "Receive beer" steps.
While waiting for our first round we noticed how ungodly hot it was in there. Yes, it was a very hot summer day. Yes we sat next to an open door. But don't places like this have air conditioning? I know I'm a fat kid, so we're warm and we sweat a lot, but when the thin people at the table are pitting out and their only movements are lifting beer to their mouths, it's ridiculous.
It's also just an overgrown frat party inside. Nothing but bro's and screachy girls. Not my kind of atmosphere at all. There are probably some really great people in there, but it was hard to find them (and yes, I'm judging books by their covers. Sue me.)
While the prices on food & beer were fantastic the food itself was subpar. I was only expecting bar food, and while it was definitely bar food, it still wasn't as good as I had hoped. The wings were okay, nothing special. The Mac & cheese was a joke. The tater tots though, were awesome! I also had a bite or two of a chicken sandwich that was too basic to even warrant its $6 cost. The food was also so darn good that the rest of us were feeling a little rumbly in the tumbly immediately after, if you know what I mean.
I'm not in a hurry to go back to Pub on Pearl. I want to like it, but while the beer was cheap, the food wasn't good, the service was middle of the road, the crowd was annoying, it was too loud to have any sort of conversation (turn down the music!) and it was 9,000 degrees inside. Sort of a milquetoast experience all around.
I guess I had high expectations for the Pub on Pearl's $2 breakfast burritos, but today, they let me down. I should have realized that at the bargain price of $2, I would probably not get a gourmet feast. Â The eggs were rubbery and, for some reason, a little bit brown. Â I liked the bacon, but it was wrapped in the burrito in two long strips: Eating it was not a pretty sight. Â
The price does make up for the burrito's shortcomings, and honestly, I will probably be back there on Sunday mornings in the near future.
$2 Breakfast Burrito at the Pub on Pearl on Sundays
This is deal should be a regular staple for everyone. First of all the Pub on Pearl is amazing, if you haven't been, go! They have great deals all week, friendly service, good food / drinks, and a very fun atmosphere. While you're there you can grab a beer, watch a game or shoot a game of pool. The crowd is always fun and the location is great (wash park, behind the whole foods).
Now back to the breakfast burritos. Every Sunday, anytime during their kitchen hours you can pick up one of these bad boys for only two bucks! These are not your standard run of the mill type burritos either. The burritos are huge! You can choose either sausage or bacon, either option is delicious. They are packed with eggs, meat, cheese and tator tots... that's right, tator tots! Wrapped up in a flour tortilla and smothered with cheese and green chili. Delicious! And all this for just $2, what a deal!
Went here last night. Cool "hole in the wall" bar. A bit bizarre to have bingo blasting on the loud speakers, possibly made a bit more bizarre because it was mostly 20-somethings playing.
Didn't eat any food here, but I usually don't eat at bars. Quick service though. Our waitress was very nice!
I am updating my review because I have grown to love the Pub. I realized how much I loved it last night when we met some friends for happy hour. We had tacos and they were so yummy. We also had the deep fried tater tots...how much better can you get?! My friends always get the french dip sandwich. I haven't tried it, but it must be good, because they seriously do get it every time we eat here.
Tuesdays are BBB night, beer, burger & bingo for $5. How fun is that. They have live music on Saturdays and Sunday is football, football, and more football.
The bar tenders and waiter and great. Service is prompt and friendly. There is always an owner in the bar too making sure everything is running smoothly.
Rolled in here on Thursday around 5-ish. Â Bar area has plenty of seating, and nice new TV's. Â the day bartendress was a littl slow but around 6pm when the nightstaff came in, the drinks were slung fast & furious. Â $5 all you can eat wings is a good deal to go with the thursday cfb games. Â shots were generously poured, and they have a great selection of tap beers.
Big John, the night bartender is the man.
Was there this past Saturday night and had a not good experience. Â It took forever to get a drink as the barstaff either talked amoungst themselves or only helped people they knew the first names of. Â Waitresses walked past our table multiple times when there were obvious empties and never stopped to check on us. Â Basically my group of 5 ladies gave up on having any drinks. Â Towards the end of the night when I was closing out my not-used-much tab I heard a male bartender be extremely rude to female patron after she waited and waited and waited to order something as he ignored her and instead high fived and chatted with some guys who weren't even ordering anything. Â
The music was great but it was not a very good environment other than that. Â Rude and slow service. Â Unimpressed and won't be back.
As others have mentioned, this a great bar to walk to if you live in the area. Â The employees are friendly, they provide great specials each night (including Boddingtons), the TVs are well situated for watching your favorite teams and it's nice that they have a few pool tables...... pretty much everything you'd want in your neighborhood bar. Â Also a great place to hang after being at the park!
Happy hour is from 11am to 7pm. Â They have live music Saturdays and a Texas Hold'em poker tournament that runs every Wednesday.
I would give this place a better grade if I had seen it during a Friday or Saturday in the evening, however I saw it on Sunday afternoon. It was a little slow, and the waitstaff was a little inattentive.
The place was cool because it was located right in the neighborhood, and had a lot of room and TVs inside. The specials were really good and the menu was priced really reasonable. I only realized they had a patio when I was getting up to leave, but that is always a plus in my book. And for those of you looking for a pool table, they had two in the back.
Their happy hour was from 11-7 on Mondays-Fridays
Great bar to waste away the afternoon, evening and wee hours. Â Nice range of patrons - from the suit-types to the sports teams to the DU crowd. Â Interesting eye candy.
I love Wednesdays- ladies' night 2-for1's and poker - a winning combination. The owners and staff are friendly and very helpful and on top of things. Limited but decent bar food menu - gotta love tater tots.
