Great place to people watch. All walks of life are welcome in this Rehoboth Ave. gay bar. The food is good but nothing incredible. The potions are huge. We love to come on Sundays around 8:30 to have dinner and then watch the drag show that starts at 10pm.
If the crowds are too much for you, go to the back beach bar. They have a nice sandy area out back that has a more relaxed vibe.
Fun and casual appearance. Â If you like it noisy and do not need to be able to talk to your friends, this may be your place. Â The service was just ok. Â Most of the food was of average quality except for the crab cake which was a little better quality, but the sweet potatoes fries were not crispy (how I asked for them). Â The Shroom Wrap was delivered soggy and taste was just ok. Â I would not recommend.
Review Source:Does Purple Parrot really exist?! I swear I might've just imagined this place - it was too perfect. We walked into an insanely crowded restaurant/bar, and the bouncer told us there was a "beer garden" downstairs. We wandered down, expecting to find an equally crowded little bar, but instead stumbled upon a huge fake-beach with lawn chairs, a relatively empty bar, tons of picnic tables, etc. We drank $4 margaritas and sat in some random chairs off to the side, with fake sand at our feet, watching lots of happy people dance and drink. I don't know anything about the restaurant portion of Purple Parrot, but the "beer garden" is basically my dream bar.
Review Source:This is mainly just a review for the biergarten out back. The bar/restaurant is always super crowded and overwhelming. We ate there once, but with all of the other restaurant choices at the beach the PP is less alluring. So back to the biergarten, they have created this lush, beachy haven out back with sand, lots of seating, bamboo, palms and other jungle-y foliage. Less cray out back, easy to find a little nook to enjoy a refreshing drink. Seem to always have one or two good beers on tap; last night we enjoyed an Abita Purple Haze.
Review Source:I've been visiting RB for most of my life and until this year have walked passed the Purple Parrot. I now wish I would have stopped in sooner. The selection of items was quite extensive, affordable, and portion size was larger than one would expect at a beach restaurant.
The crab cake sandwich was incredible. a half pound of lump crab, with very little filler, cooked to perfection! This entree was served with a choice of side for only $16. On Wednesday the crab cake is 1/2 price!! What a great deal!
The other items my family tried were equally as good and surprisingly they have a nice selection of German dishes!
Get there early for dinner because on the weekend it is quite the hopping place!
I can't believe I totally forgot to review this place! Â I went down in February and I lived at this bar for three days in a row...The bartenders are awesome, very attentive & don't tell my bf but attractive too, the food was good & had a hugeee selection, the location is on point AND I love the divey feel with the dolla bills!! Â Hopefully going this weekend and before I even check-in def going to get an Orange crush from here first!!
Review Source:I had the worst experience ever at the Purple Parrot this past weekend, and I'll never walk into that place again. We walked in around 3:00 on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. It's Memorial Day weekend, and it's a gay bar in Rehoboth Beach. It's gonna be busy. I get it. But there was absolutely no excuse for how poorly EVERY member of the staff treated our group.
We attempted to seat ourselves after waiting at the host stand for 5 minutes and not seeing a host or hostess anywhere. We then tried to sit at an open table, and we were then abruptly assaulted by the host who yelled at us that there was a wait. We eventually got a picnic table in one of the back rooms next to a door to the little tiki patio. We ordered food and drinks. Drinks, on average, took 30 minutes to arrive after ordering them. Our food arrived about and hour and a half after we had ordered. And as soon as our food arrived, a server propped the doors right next to our table wide open. It was extremely windy and cold that day, and it was completely uncomfortable to attempt to eat with the doors open and our food got really cold really fast. Every time we tried to close the doors, they propped them back open. I finally asked a server if there was anyway we could keep the doors closed, and he shouted "NO!" and stormed off.
In addition, my softshell crab sandwich was raw in the middle. Apparently the cook is in too damn big of a hurry to even get DEEP FRYING right. I was so irate over the terrible food and the door situation, I demanded to get my check so that I could leave before the rest of my party as I had no intention of eating a raw softshell crab. They bitched at us that they couldn't separate checks. What a racket! I referred to this place as the "Purple Shithole" for the remainder of the weekend. I'll never go back!
Seriously? I've never been less impressed at a restaurant in all of Rehobeth. Service was abysmal, both in terms of quality and speed. The lack of selection; appalling--How can a menu be this large and have so little on it? Wow.
I'm a vegetarian. An easy-going ready to eat pizza after I've picked the pepperoni off-vegetarian. I am not picky. However, when I see a menu that looks like t has few options for me, I generally ask for advice from our survey. I should not be treated like an idiot, an alien, or a complicated diner for asking. This is your job. I recognize you are busy, however me sitting quietly as my table eats knowing that they are going to need to accompany me to a separate restaurant is excessive.
Wow, this sucked.
We chose this restaurant on a whim. We weren't disappointed. It was early lunch and there were other patrons with us. The waitress was friendly and the the decor was laid back. One thing I noticed right away was the dollar bills attached to the ceiling and walls. Never seen that before. My husband ordered the crab &shrimp salad sandwich. I ordered the soft shell crab sandwich. Each of us enjoyed our meal. My crab was the biggest soft shell I've had at a restaurant. The breading was very light so you could taste the crab. My husband's sandwich was filled with real crab & good size shrimp. We were pleased with the portions we were served. Next time we're in the area, we'll visit again.
Review Source:AMAZING CRAB CAKES
I just had what has to be one of the best crab cake dinners ever. Â I came in for the winter special half priced Crab Cake Dinner. Â They definitely didn't skimp on the quality or quantity of the meal. Â The crab cakes were packed full of jumbo lumps, I really wonder how it even held together. Â I'll be doing this again.
I was craving a Lobster Roll in Rehoboth, I knew i'd have trouble finding one. Seen this place had a Crab and shrimp roll....hmmm... have to try it out.
The seating looked fun, you can sit outside under a roof and people watch along the street. That's a +1 for entertainment. Once we got settled in people watching they took our drink order. I was very pleased they had Dogfish Head seasonal beers on tap. Got to love Rehoboth for that.
I heard the wings were good here, so we got an appetizer of wings for $9.75 / dozen. Once they came out i could see why... they were HUGE. At least double the size of let's say... Buffalo Wild Wings. The sauce was nothing special (Parrot sauce was a citrus BBQ) but it was good. Would def. get the wings here again.
I ordered the Crab and shrimp roll with potato salad, and it was very good, fixed my craving for a New England lobster roll. Lots of shrimp and REAL crab meat - no filler. Wife got a Pork and Ham reuben sandwich that was good also, although she was coming down with a cold and I only tried a little bit.
Overall the food and service was very good here. We came at around 3PM so no delays or anything. I'd imagine it can get very crowded in the evenings/weekends.
It would have been a 4/5 for food and service, but since they had Dogfish Head Namaste on tap and fun seating, it's 5/5!
The Purple Parrot Grill is the worst dining establishment I have been to. It is a dirty bar located on the main street in Rehoboth Beach. Due to its location, ambiance and accommodating menu, my family decided to try it during our summer vacation. Once arriving we were sat down in an empty room - this should have been our first clue.
After ordering drinks and reviewing the menu we had to ask the host to send over the waitress to take our order. I was looking forward to my meal - the waitress, although unfriendly, had accommodated my request to customize a grilled wrap.
45 minutes later every other table had their food, even if they had arrived and ordered after us. My father found the manager behind the bar - guess they were short staffed or mismanaged... He did not seem to care and offered a measly discount. We didn't want a discount, we wanted to be served.
Once the food arrived - some time later - it was ice cold. French fries were frozen (right out of the bag), grilled sandwiches were chilly, and the cheese from my sister's quesadilla had already congealed.
We left.
The crab cake sandwich is delicious. Service is good. Have been three times and brought group of teenagers the last time - they liked the noisy atmosphere and the fun decor. Great place to go for reasonably priced food. Would have preferred to sit out on the patio rather than in the back corner, but still a good time.
Review Source:Very good. Service was great. I had the crab cake which was delicious. My husband had the 2 lb prime rib. (they had a 1-3 lb available) he thought it was succulent. My sister in-law had the ahi tuna which she thought was delicious but was in love with the teriyaki sauce. My brother-in-law had the pork schnitzel was "das gooooooood." we would definitely come here again when on the rehoboth boardwalk.
Review Source:Been going to Rohoboth for 7 years now but never tried this place until this week. Great food and drinks, good prices. Our party of four came about 9pm on a wednesday night, our server was very helpful. Wife had crabcakes which she thought were really good, and they were half- off because it was Wednesday. I had the prime rib- you could order a 1 lb, a 2 lb, or a 3 lb slab depending on your appetite! I ordered the 2lb portion, it was cooked as described and seasoned well, was very delicious. I ate the whole thing, which honestly was an accomplishment. And I don't know why some Yelpers are complaining about the price, my 32 oz of delicious beef only cost $24.99- you couldn't buy it at the store for that price! Everyone liked their meals, we will be back again on future beach trips.
Review Source:This restaurant is so cute! I have been numerous times, the food has always been good, and I don't have any complaints about the service. It does get busy and noisy at times, but it is just that type of place (fun, energetic, and playful). The decor is hilarious, they have tons of monkeys and other animals drawn on the walls. The last time I went we were served by the manager and he was FABULOUS! He was extremely attentive and polite. There was a situation where a huge family came into the patio, and my family proactively chose to switch a table on the patio in order to accommodate the large family party, and the manager proactively gave us a free alcoholic beverage each for this.
Then, one of the busboys accidentally gave us the wrong meal, and because of this the manager let us keep the incorrect meal, and even gave us the right meal at no charge! And he did not guilt us into feeling bad about it, he was happy to help us.
As far as food, I always get something with seafood in it, and it has never disappointed! In fact, their meals are absolutely delicious.
Even though you can bring families into the restaurant/bar, it definitely isn't geared toward children.
I absolutely would recommend this restaurant!
Food is ok, but nothing special. I will say the menu has something for everyone ... lots of variety. It is nice to be able to sit b the front windows and people watch. Dinning experience would be two stars, but entertainment brings it up a bit.
The reason to come to Purple Parrot should be for the entertainment and solid bar tenders. Have had mixed experiences with servers, but always great bartenders! Entertainment is aways fun for not having to leave downtown Rehoboth.
Keep on walking. Â Maybe it was because there was a football game on TV that the host didn't want to miss, but it seemed a real chore for him to see if a seat was available for us. Â My wife ordered clams and I ordered a chicken quesadilla. About 10 minutes after ordering, we were told that they were out of clams. Â Ok, I can overlook that, but at least TELL us that before we order. Â I then waited approximately 30minutes for my chicken quesadilla. Â 30 minutes for a chicken quesadilla!!!! The place wasn't even that full, but I guess none of the cooks could pull themselves away from the precious game to do their job. Â Oh yah, did I mention the table was sticky?
We've been here before, too, when they had a drag night. Â That was fun. Â Mabye it was because there was a football game on--scratch that, that's not a reason to act indifferent to customers and take 3x as long as needed to make a meal.
Swung in for breakfast this past Sunday and wasn't very excited by the offerings, or I should say the pricing of the offerings, but then I found the breakfast burger at the bottom of the menu. Handmade patty topped with egg, though they should really consider including some bacon with it as well (as a professional eater, I had the forethought to order a side and upgrade the man-meal on my own). Very good, very filling, and the beef was cooked to a nice medium, as I requested. The only issue I had with the burger was that the egg was cooked hard (which wasn't really an issue since I didn't specify that I prefer it runny), so I suggest you tell them if you want the yolk to be your sauce.
Some other pluses worth mentioning are that the accompanying hash browns were actually red bliss potato cubes (a very pleasant surprise) that were tastily herbed and paprikad up, that the breakfast comes with one free cocktail (not that $2 mimosas and bloody marys would really break the bank anyway), and that our server, Richard, was quite entertaining and excellent. They also do karaoke here on weekend nights, and a walk by proved that it was definitely Emmett's kind of fun, but 25% of the members in our couples vacation were too boozed up, so it was hotel room and Goonies instead of the stage and me belting out Erasure's "A Little Respect".
P.S.- Coming from Philadelphia, I was truly taken aback by this place's "Southern Hospitality"; if they want me to pay for my meal with all the free wall dollars, who am I to argue...
After a really splendid day at the beach, I didn't want anything complicated or fussy. Â We usually head to the excellent Hobo's or Blue Moon. Â But I was really in the mood for something more relaxed. Â We'd heard good things about Purple Parrot, so we threw the dice.
It's kind of a kick since it's on the main drag in Rehoboth Beach. Â We got a table right on the sidewalk and ordered some fun drinks. Â Since it was 4:30, we had to order an appetizer and wait for 5:00 to make our dinner order. Â Yeah, they're strict on that.
We ordered the baked bried with croutons and fruit. Â The husbear and I split it up so he took the croutons and I took the fruit. Â It's a standard brie, so I had to cut the rind off for gluten. Â Very nice though.
For dinner, the husbear had an enchilada with crab and shrimp. Â He wasn't over the moon about it. Â Possibly, it just wasn't what he was expecting or because he was still ticked off t the awful breakfast at Rehoboth Diner. Â I had the crab cakes, which were very good. Â Possibly some filler as I have had a reaction today that suggests this may be so, although it wasn't listed on their menu. Â
The service was very good and very quick. Â Perhaps because of the mixed drinks, we managed to spend more than $100.
Addressing the points about the crowd, there's nothing about the place that's "gay bar" ish. Â It's more like a "Cheeseburger in Paradise" Â It's extremely laid back and you won't see inappropriate behavior. Â The owners clearly value the unique culture that is Rehoboth Beach and make everyone equally welcome.
This place has decent food, but it really shines as a nightlife spot.
As a bar, this place is definitely leans towards the homosexual crowd. Â But don't let being straight dissuade you from stopping in. Â Everyone here is welcomed and has a good time. Â Drinks are pretty strong, the people are fun and the new beirgarden is pretty sweet on nights that aren't too muggy.
Come as you are, leave your hang-ups at the door and prepare for a damn good time!
Surprisingly delightful!
We stopped in on our long journey home for a quick brunch (It was one of the few places open on Tuesday morning) We sat in the bar area and perused the menu, to find that they only served brunch on Saturdays and Sundays= bummer... The menu had a bevy of items, from quesadillas to crab cakes!
The bartender came over and took our drink orders, and as they say- it's 5' o clock somewhere, so my husband sampled some of the local brews to start off the his  meal.
An unconventional looking, but super nice and attentive waiter (He seriously should be in a rockband, who knows maybe he was!) came over and took our order, the bartender, really knew his brew!
I had the cup of Cream of Crab soup, which I was on the fence about, since the crab situation was an unsuccessful find ALL weekend and it was rather early in the morning. I also ordered the Gyro. Random combination, I know! The soup was piping hot and was a wonderful marriage of cream and lump crab meat + sherry! I would have licked the bowl if I didn't feel that would have completely barbaric! Â The gyro was HUGE and delicious!
DH had the pulled pork sandwich, again the portions were huge and MIL had the chicken cordon bleu. We all loved the food and ended up taking half of our sandwiches home.
The restaurant was very touristy and kitchy. But it did give an island feel, sans the coconut trees and steel drum.I would stay away from the bathrooms- they were total YUCK and the bar area had a bit of 'the morning after a party' smell to it, but with the breeze wafting through, I barely noticed!
A great safe to a terrible weekend of gastro disappointment!
I was there for a late Monday lunch; about 3PM. The joint was nearly empty so noise was not an issue. I had the BBQ chicken sub with cold slaw. I am trying to avoid carbs as much as possible so no fries for me. I ate half the sub roll and all the chicken and I was completely full; plenty of protein. The BBQ sauce was sweet & zesty but not hot. The sauce would have been overwhelmingly sweet but the cold slaw neutralized the sweetness. The Samuel Adams beer was cold and also offset the BBQ sauce. This heavy lunch at 3PM makes a perfect early dinner meal. Dinner service starts at 5PM. If I knew in advance about the 5PM hamburger special, I may have waited for that. But since I was there, I ate.
I sat at the front, high tables. There are also regular height tables. Since today was warm the garage doors were up. It was a pleasant open air environment. The server was cordial and efficient. My bill was about $13 bucks.
Been there a few times this summer and now it's my go to spot! Crowds are mixed and friendly with bartenders that really hook it up. Always a great time no matter when you go. Anywhere else in rehoboth does not compare!
If you aren't into fun music, good people, and fun times then you can go to any of the other boring places in Rehoboth. We always have a fun time just hanging out during the day for a few drinks or at night when they have the drag show. It's definitely a place you don't want to bring the family, but its a restaurant and bar meant to be for adults. Go to the pizza joint if you want to bring your kids.
Fun place, great food!
Service is hit and miss but everyone is always friendly.
Sunday nights are a blast if you're up for entertaining music and a drag show.
Bartender makes great drinks.
Their dinner specials offseason are awesome.
Monday nights 6.75$ gets you a burger big enough to share with someone else, and a toppings bar with endless sauteed mushrooms, onions and bacon...and more. Â
I go there weekly....love this place!
Not gonna lie...Purple Parrot was the perfect spot after some wedding (or eve of wedding) shenanigans. $2 mimosas/bloody marys Saturday morning and a Eggs Chesapeake/Crab Benedict really hit the spot. I really liked their hollandaise sauce as well. Home fries were nothing to write home about, but they served their starchy purpose.
The bright (i.e. tacky) decor of this place didn't bother me at all, and it's only a couple blocks from the beach, so what do you expect?
My friend who got the pancakes said they were a little on the sweet side (not sure what that means), and if you really want lunch and not breakfast before noon... grab the breakfast burger without the eggs, said our very chipper waiter. Very...chipper...waiter...
The mimosas weren't the best ones ever, and were served out of pint glasses... but at $2 each, who cares?!
This is a great place to get drunk and embarrass yourself onstage.
Went here on Friday night. It was hysterical. A huge crowd was in attendance for their karaoke night complete with a few drag queens singing Barbara Streisand and Celine Dion. Sounds horrific, right? No way! It was a blast.
The crowd was a bit mixed: a lot of older couples, drag queens, plenty of locals. And the drinks were strong!
We walked by a few times during our weekend visit and it was always packed for lunch and dinner. I didn't eat anything here, but the nightlife was certainly fun!
This IS Rehoboth Beach Delaware.
The Purple Parrot represents everything Rehoboth Beach is.
I was on staff at this rest. on and off for about 3 years. I was one of the O.G. servers there when it opened in it's old location next to Catchers. I will tell you what. P.Parrot has always put out great food. Since the day it opened the Prime Rib was great, the crab cakes crabby.
I am really happy to see that the Purple Parrot has endured over 10 years now. The owners are really good people and they are great to work for.
Big Ups to the Purple Parrot
On the last day of a great vacation in Maryland the weather turned cold & rainy. Luckily we were driving home... or so I thought. I wake up from a nap in the car to find that my family thought it would be a great idea to take a huge detour & check out Rehoboth Beach--walk around, check out some potential beach houses, why not when it's a beautiful--err cold & (torrential) rainy mess?!
Needless to say I was NOT in a good mood when we got to the Purple Parrot. It's funky caribbean jungle theme annoyed me, & I wasn't entertained by my brother ordering "poop dip." But my hunger got the best of me & I tried some poop--the blended mix of black beans, tomatoes & avocado was rather tasty. My salad was very good, as was everyone else's food, & by the end of the meal the Grouch was gone & I was back to normal! Nice work! Thanks Purple Parrot!
