For dinner last night, we were served by the manager, Nikki. She was great and the clam chowder was, too. The next morning, we went for the free breakfast that came with our room. While the food itself was good, the service was TERRIBLE. They had two food servers for the whole restaurant, as far as I could tell. It took 20 minutes just to get someone to take our order and we waited almost as long for our coffee. All in all, breakfast was 1.5 hours long and not by choice.

Great bowl of steamer clams so many we could have made a meal of just them.  Sadly saved room for the fresh halibut fish and chips.  Small pieces of fish and fries were limp and greasy.
Also the people watching is pretty good

If you want to stay local in Vancouver and still go out and dance this place is ok.
live music and dancing.  Reasonable priced drinks.
Olderish crowd. Still we had a blast dancing and turning heads lol.

That may be the worst $21 meal I've ever had.
    Nice view though.

I came on here to write a review and wasn't expecting to see all the poor ones.  I suppose I'm not the best judge - every time we've hit this place up we've been three sheets to the wind.  If I recall, there was like a cheesy cover band and this totally bizarre mix of people awkwardly dancing on the tiny dance floor.  We couldn't tear our eyes away.  30 minutes into it we were out there too, making asses out of ourselves.    The service isn't the best, but I've always had a good time here. I don't know how else to explain it - I just have a good time.  May not be the best place for fine dining, but the food is palatable.  The location is fantastic too - you're like, right on the water.  Also the breakfast buffet is awesome - if you're into that sort of thing.
Maybe it just seems cool because it will be torn down at some point in the near future.  Who knows.  I'd recommend it though.

Portland is an amazing city for food, happy hours, drinks... you name it!

I know this in Vancouver, but it's simply not far enough away form Portland to be this miserable of a joint. It's on the river and you can literally see the start of Portland on the other side of the river. You can't be this close to greatness and be this miserable!

The happy hour was just the regular menu at half price... which would have been nice except the food was miserable. The hamburger was sandwiched between two of the $.99 special hamburger bag of buns and featured a patty that was equal in quality to the cheapest thing sale item you could find at Winco. The cesar salad was mediocre, and the pigs in a blanket read great and featured... less than a full sausages worth of serving.

I ordered a margarita. It was 9 parts Costco margarita mix with a splash of tequila. Easily the worst margarita I've ever had, which includes a margarita where some drink chick poured whatever was left on the camping table, threw it in a jug, shook said jug and then threw it at my head.

So I sent the drink back. Next drink, a simple vodka grapefruit. How you screw up a well drink is beyond me, but it also sucked. I wasn't looking to beat the place up so I just gave up. You can have my $4.

Overall, I don't know why people go here. I suppose if you're afraid of driving over bridges you probably don't know that a whole world of good food for less money with great drinks is just a short jaunt on I5 away. In the end this place is the second worst place I've ever been... and the worst place just crunched up Doritos and threw it on a cheese pizza and tried to sell it to me as a nacho pizza!

Quality: Worst I've had yet near Portland
    Quantity: Not there.
    Price: Just as lacking.

Fat kid doesn't approve. Run away!

Three of us went to the Red Lion Quay tor happy hour.  Unfortunately our visit coincided with the night that the Christmas Ships would be passing the hotel.  When we arrived at 4:30PM there was only one bartender/server on duty.  This is a highly unusual situation; there is usually a bartender and at least one server.  It took a while to even place a drink order.  We had to go to the bar to tell him we were ready to place our happy hour food order.  We got our food just as the crowds began to arrive for happy hour and Christmas Ships.  A couple of other waitresses showed up from the dining room but by that time they were completely overwhelmed.  I had to stand at the bar for thirty minutes just to pay my bill which I will never do again.  There is a clear change in the management philosophy here with poor staffing and filthy facilities.  It will be a long time before I return.  I will persuade all my friends to party elsewhere.

My girlfriend and I had dinner here last night to celebrate her birthday.  I hadn't eaten at the Red Lion in a couple years.  We were very pleased with the meal.  The waiter told us they had a new chef who had been a chef for 30 years, retired and returned to work.  We had halibut and prime rib.  The presentation and food were excellent.  I plan to return again soon to enjoy other menu items.

If I could own a restaurant in any location in Vancouver, WA, this would be the location.  An amazingly large place with windows on the water, tons of parking and the place is EMPTY at 9PM on Saturday night.

One of the staff told me the place has been dead for a long while and clearly Red Lion is preparing for the demise of the entire location when the new bridge comes (well that could be ten years for god sake).

It makes me very sad to see such a majestic place sit empty!!  I can't imagine working here or being the manager waiting for the random person to wander in.

    Suggestions.

    1) Revamp the menu to something like a mix between McMenamins and Beaches as they both pack them in.

    2) Drop the prices.  The Seafood Bolognese tasted great but $22 for a few spoons of mixed seafood and ground meat over pasta is insane.

    3) Push the live band in the bar to 10PM as most folks don't come out until after 10 or 11 for drinking and dancing anyway.

    4) Advertise a come back to where eating on the Columbia all began and give us a try.  Tie is some hotel deal for a dinner and dance till you drop package.  Tell folks we are not your grandparents seafood restaurant anymore.

    5) Hire me and give me $100K for promotions and $100K for renovations and I will make it back in a few months.

It just blows my mind to think about such a waste of a great venue. I guess the weekend bar makes enough to keep corporate happy, but can't you guys spend some brain time and money on the restaurant?

Have always loved the Quay, normally better than average quality.  Last night I had the crab salad, yuck.  The lettuce was "soft" and wet, which in turn made the normally good Thousand Island dressing taste kind of nasty.  My husband had fish and chips, all good there.  We noticed everyone else who came in after us getting bread, we had to finally ask.  Service seemed a bit off tonight.  Let's hope it was a fluke.

Pronounced "Key", don't ask me why.
This bar and restaurant is part of the Red Lion Hotel on the Quay where we are staying.
The bar and hotel offered commanding views of the Columbia River and the I5  Bridge across to Portland.
We decided to get a bite and drinks during "Happy Hour" and was surprised by the $3 to $6 appetizer menu, my other had fried zucchini and I fried clams, excellent!
The following morning we came here for breakfast that was included with the room.
    ( I know what you're thinking, the usual "free breakfasts" you get at other hotels,i,e, stingy bacon and rubber eggs!) This was a sit take your order place! The "free menu was limited to five items;

    1. Two eggs with bacon or sausage (links or patties) and hashbrowns
    2. three egg cheese omelet with Jack, Fontina & Cheddar and bacon or sausage (links or patties) and hashbrowns
    3. Three buttermilk pancakes with bacon or sausage (links or patties)
I lost interest at the last two,
    4. Fruit and yogurt
    5. Steel cut oatmeal

I had two over easy with bacon and hash browns (crisp) my bride had the same but for an omelet. My eggs were perfect with just a touch of crispiness at the edges.
We rotated through the top three the next two days. (Pancakes were like the clouds over Mt. Hood, light and fluffy!)

Here we are again, after spending the day with friends in Portland decided that after a heavy lunch at Joe's opted for bar fare, Ha! The Mrs had wedge fries and I went for the Steamer Clams, too die for! Although small there was about 30+ swimming in a wonderful elixir broth of butter and garlic! Through all this all you could hear was the sound of clam shells hitting the scrap bowl and with the scuffle  of me eating sounding a bit like Popeye eating spinach from a can!
Fresh, tender and sweet! I'll be back for the food!

    Sunday Brunch
Love a great buffet brunch! Great to me=a large selection of quality food, prepared well, continually restocked so it's fresh & appealing and some kick ass desserts.
Is this a great one? Well no, it isn't but it's a good one.
Hone in on the good stuff (if you can't recognize what that is you don't deserve to be eating it anyway)
A few highlights-  Peel & eat shrimp, smoked salmon (if you're really lucky- the smoked teriyaki salmon, antipasto kabobs,  blueberry lemon dessert squares, and the chocolate cake with the  2" of  ganache on top).
Chad will make you a killer omlet!

The down side...no more 2 for 1's from the Entertainment book.  The price has been slowly creeping up to the point that if you order champagne it's almost $30.

Go slow mon...it's all you can eat... Not all you can put on a plate

The view of the river is lovely. Best to plan sometime to sit and enjoy it as the service is slow.

We spent a week staying at the Red Lion in January. We had also stayed last year. We were looking forward to the breakfeast buffet which we received as a comp. for being Red Lion Club members. On the first morning there was no buffet.  Instead we were given a shot menu to order from. The food took between 20 and 30 minutes to arrive and we found it disappointing.

On morning I odered the yogert with fresh stawberries. After 25 minutes it arrived without the fresh stawberries. While the waiter was bringing the stawberries I found something... not sure what it was in the food. It was rock hard and the color of a stawberry.  At that point I returned the food and ordered something else. I choked down a few bites of the pancakes and sausages. The pancakes were like rubber and the sauages too greasey to even feed to our dogs.

When speaking with the manager about this problem we learned that the waiter has simply thrown out the offending item instead of taking steps to find out what it was and why it was in the food when it clearly should not have been. The manager did not thing that there was anything wrong with this. Hello, don't you want to makes sure it does not happen again?

On our last day my Friday asked if I wanted to get breakfeast and my reply was" Why, it only pisses us off when we go there for breakfeast so why not just skip it."

During our stay we tried the happy hour and were also disapointed in service, priceing and quality of the food and drinks.

We also had one of our lunches there.  The service for lunch was good. The food was unremarkable.

We will not be returning to this resturant on our next trip. We are not sure if we stay at the hotel next year, but we are sure we were disappointed with the resturant and bar.

Tried this restaurant for the first time and have to say I was actually impressed.  The food, portion size and presentation was very good.  Nice view of the river, so we would like to go back in the summer when it stays light longer.

I have to say that driving up to the restaurant I was a bit skeptical since it seems like your going into the wrong part of town.

Menu& wine list has a good variety of choices.

Went here for happy hour with my parents. It took us twenty minutes to get service.  I ordered a Caesar salad and the hummus plate. The Caesar was mediocre at best. The hummus was DISGUSTING, it was sweet and tasted like peanut butter and jelly. The pita was cold, veggies canned. Boooooo ... expect the quality of your grandma's nursing home kitchen. Blehh.

The Entertainment Book isn't BOGO anymore and at $6.00 off per person isn't worth the outrageous price charged for a barely average brunch/buffet. Total bill for two before tip was $36.00+ even with the $12.00 off coupon. As others have pointed out , the food is mediocre and really, the selection is rather limited. Prolly won't be doing this again, particularly without a coupon. At BOGO it would be marginally worth the price.

The 4 of us had lunch at the Quay last week. My parents live in Vantucky and love the restaurant.
I do love the view and the food is consistent. Plate appearance is always good. They do charge all the money thou. I'm not sure why hotels can get away with what they charge for their restaurants food.
We had a good time but I will visit only at my parents suggestion.

BOGO Entertainment Book coupon was our draw... the $4 bottomless champagne brunch was to seal the deal.  But...

The food is just nasty.  Yes, buffet to me is pure hell, but still.  I could pick a few items out to eat, but surprisingly not much.  I gave it a good effort, but damn.

Then, to top it off, our bottomless champagne is only valid if the waitress ever comes back to the table.  We sat in the bar, thinking we'd keep clear of the masses and closer to the hooch.  She brought us our initial glass full, along with our coffee, but never came back.  She looked at us from across the room and gave the obligatory "more?" look, and we said yes.  That was it.

So... after sitting there with empty glasses, half eaten food plates, and no attention whatsoever, we went to the front desk to talk to a manager.  We stood there for a good couple of minutes before even being acknowledged, then told that they'd be with us in a second.  That gem of an employee was the manager come to find out.

Long story short, about ten words of complaint out of our mouths, and we were told to just leave without paying.  So we did.

    Never again...

Last summer, my mother attended a week long "blind camp," where she learned about how to help people who were blind succeed in her classes (she's a developmental kindergarten teacher). One night, they put on night shades, so they could see nothing, and went to the quay. Maybe a temporarily heightened sense of taste brought out flavors in the food that when she brought us back to this 'incredible restaurant,' we were unequipped to taste.

I ordered a teriyaki salmon yakisoba dish, which, while not terrible, did not seem to be what the salmon was seasoned for. The sauce was overwhelmingly sweet on this dish, which may have taken away some of the vegetable and salmon flavors. Decent, but not worth the price.

My other half had the crab cake sandwich. It seems like a seafood restaurant on the water should understand seafood. Unfortunately, the crab cake sandwich tasted like a saltine cake sandwich. Surely edible, not nearly as delectible.

The view was nice, and I hate to talk so badly about this place, because I can't figure out how much of my review is let down from my mother's description as an amazing restaurant (which it wasn't; it was even a bit kitzchy) and how much was simply mediocre food.

I just ate here in the evening outside, I ordered the prime rib dinner, the food was great and I was impressed. Our table was right along the columbia river where we can view the interstate bridge and watch the sunset, since it was sunny on a rare occasion, it felt like we were at a resort for a second;) Great ambiance, a little pricey, but perfect for a romantic date on a sunny evening, defiantly recommend.

So this is where the Vancouver swinger parties start... I was lost amongst a sea of 40 and 50 somethings looking to spice up that marriage. This is all inside the Red Lion on the waterfront in downtown.

Came on a Saturday night around 10PM for a friends birthday and the place was packed. By far the largest group of people I have seen partying in one place in Vancouver - 150+

I was told by a famous yelper from Vancouver it is pronounced "Key", not "Quay".

As you enter the bar/club you are welcomed by boat riggings and nets welcoming you to the "ship". Drinks are cheap and all ages are fair game.

Come set sail and drop anchor here. I'm sure many a captain has ended the night harpooning a whale after a few drinks here.

Go here if you want to the slowest service in southwest Washington.  I just had lunch here with my husband and I unfortunately have to give this place one star.  The salad that i ordered came with the wrong dressing and a moldy tomato.  My husband's patty melt looked like it had a week old hamburger patty in it.

The topper was the service.  I saw at least 5 servers for about 15 tables.  It was like pulling teeth to have a server come over to take our order and then another eon before someone came over to deal with my salad.

I've been to the Quay many times for business conferences.  The food they offer at the buffet at those events are ok.  Actually going into the dining room is something I will never do again.

Recently while serving on a jury I was able to take the bloated lunch times they give you and turn it into looking for new Yelpable places to eat with The Wife, who works across from the courthouse.  One such sojourn was down to the waterfront, to The Quay (pronounced "Key") to hit up the restaurant in the Red Lion.

I wanted to hate this place.  It is decorated with the rigging from a schooner, it has nautical.... everything.  You know what?  It works for this place.  Floor to ceiling windows give great views of the river and the (obsolete, embattled) Interstate bridge.  The service is spot on, friendly, but with no feelings of them playing you over the top for tips.

The food was top notch.  The Beer Cheese Soup was amazing, the ham & pepperoni melt was very good and the potato wedges were perfectly cooked and seasoned.  Refills of soda arrived on time and without asking.

It isn't as popular as it once was, it is not easy to find, but it is so worth the effort.  This place holds the quay to my heart.

Using my ever present Entertainment Coupon Book my partner in dine and I enjoyed The Quay immensely.   Service was spot on.
My Linguine with clams on the shell, garlic so plentiful I feared my breath would stink for a week.  Not only were there LOTS of clams in the shell, there were copious not-in-the-shell clams in the butter sauce.  Granted a couple of clams were a bit gritty.  But, with clams its not unusual and to be expected.
My partner-in-dine had Lobster Ravioli.  Great taste, beautiful presentation.  The ravioli were large with black stripes on the pasta packet.  Lobster clearly present!
Our server cheerfully went to the kitchen for us. Turns out the stripes are food coloring. Very creative.
High end, well done, and comfortable nautical atmosphere inside The Red Lion Hotel.
    We WILL be back!

This restaurant is actually integrated into the Red Lion Hotel at the Quay (pronounced like "Key").

The restaurant is very unique though, for a hotel restaurant.  It's themed like an old 18th century ship with masts and lights on the ceiling to replicate stars.  The outer dining area has a view of the Columbia River and the Interstate Bridge.  The seafood is all right, but it's really nothing special.  I generally order a hamburger, since I'm not the biggest seafood fan.  The service is generally good.  Recently, they jacked the prices up, most likely due to the economy.
