Rainbow Family Diner

I used to go tjhe Rainbow almost every morning for breakfast and maybe twice a week for my supper.  Last summer, 2011, he raised the prices for breakfast at least a dollar and then started charging  for the coffee that was $1.25 at the time.  So a ham and egg breakfast went up $2.25.

Grant you now the breakfasts were always good but the prices went up too much.

To save money, the owner has had the door wide open even in heat since last summer too.  It is clean there but sometimes there are a few flies.

I have not been there since last summer.

I live so close and used to go here often...with the construction and economy it is obvious that times are tough here. I went with a friend who I try to get out once a week with, I have been saying to him "we should try it"...we arrived early on Weds ..the owner was the only one there (his wife is usually with him)...he was a one man show...Host, server & cook...while the food was actually good..typical diner type...We did have issues that really upset us. He gave us the menu and on the inside cover there are the "specials"...after looking at the menu we both decided to order something that is on the special menu. I had  Meatloaf and my friend had the Turkey dinner. The special sheet says "includes soup AND salad, rolls and butter your choice of side dish. When we ordered the owner told us "NO" it is soup OR salad..."he has been meaning to change that"...but pointed out that the prices for each entree was a few dollars less than the "normal" price...ok..we can live without the extra soup or salad...he did do everything himself so it was abit slow ..again we can live with it..because the food was fresh and good. Right as we finished another take-out customer came in ..so we figured rather than wait MORE..we would go to counter pay and go. Well.......he wrote up the check and charged FULL menu price for everything ...my friend (who also owns a business) .. pointed it out and the response was astounding.....well prices are subject to change....NOT FROM THE TIME YOU SIT DOWN TO WHEN YOU PAY.... I even remarked that he told us we were paying the lower price and he said..no I was showing you what the correct price is. Now I am a college graduate own and operate a business - my dinner companion own and runs a very busy business....we are both pretty good when it come to listening and hearing what people are saying...It was a mere $5.00 but the whole way he went about it was so wrong. We said fine but we will never be back. I think he realized he going to lose customers over this stupid tactic. He decided to give us the correct price "to keep us happy"...well we were far from happy. So for a dinner that we would have left happy...we left annoyed..and I have to say I will never go back. If you go....watch your bill.. food is good but obvious finances are affecting the way he does business.

Basic Diner in Desperate need of a makeover, Menu and decor. Food was not horrible and service was good but dont think this will be on my list of places to go, shame too cause its walking distance from the house.
