I got the Barbacoa burrito and it was not very good. Â The barbacoa was probably 50% fat. Â It was gross.
I also got a crispy chile relleno. Â It was soggy by the time I got it home. Â So that is probably my fault to order that for take out. Â However, they could have put the green chili on the side so as not to maximize the sogginess!!
Still on the hunt for great lunch spots around the AMC, a coworker and I opted to check out this Real de Minas location.
We arrived during the noon hour and were promptly seated in a cozy booth and immediately served chips and two tasty and spicy varieties of salsa. Â I couldn't see the rest of the restaurant from my vantage point, but it appeared to have two separate dining rooms, all with colorful decorations and lovely hardwood.
After perusing one of the largest menus on earth (seriously, who are they kidding with this thing? way too many choices, so little time!), I selected the simple "arroz con pollo" while my coworker chose a beef burrito.
Our food arrived in record time, very impressive! Â This is always a bonus when you only have an hour for lunch. Â Holy Mole, massive plates piled with delicious food! Â My chicken and rice was really quite fantastic: Â spicy and satisfying. Â (I took the leftovers home and had it again for supper because there was so much.) Â My coworker appeared to enjoy her lunch too because her plate was cleaned in no time.
This RDM location is miles ahead of its counterpart on Peoria: Â super fast, friendly service and pipping hot food served up in no time. Â This is an awesome new lunch spot for me!
Horrible!!! i used to like the food and service here. but now it seems that they went over their head with success and they are doing a shitty job. The food tasted horrible. some parts were burned, others were uncooked, and the service..... Wow!!! the waitress almost pushed us out of the door because it was busy. and when i asked for more soda, she brought a pitcher and spilled soda over the table and my mom's food. She offered to replace it. but my mom said no, because she wasn't going to eat it anyway. the food tasted like shit. So sad what happened to this restaurant. I almost wanted to refuse to pay the bill, cause we didn't eat and had to go somewhere else anyway. I still payed, but I'm never coming here again... save your money, appetite, and time.
Review Source:Enchilada, Soap, and Octopus
The food is good. Typical Colorado style 'authentic' Mexican food. Â I had an 'authentic' Colorado/Mexican Enchilada. Well that's what I always order at Mexican food joints. Â I always want to compare all Mexican offerings of the enchilada platter. Â I have had hundreds of enchilada platters. Â They all seem to come out a lot like the last enchilada platter. Â I leave after eating my enchilada platter and swear that next time I won't get an enchilada platter. But I do.
But here at Real De Mimas, you can also get Korea Seafood Soup!!! Â That's what my buddy ordered. Â He is Korean. Â The bowl was filled with whole miniature octopus, just like he likes at his Korean relatives house. Â But he said that it tasted like they put taco sauce in his !@#!@$% (something Korean?) Â Next time I will get the !@#!@$% just because its not enchiladas. Â Or, maybe, just maybe I can get an whole miniature octopus enchilada!! Â I think they just had chicken and steak, oh well. Â But I could be onto something.
So the food was good, the service....er...not. Â We were the only table with customers. Â Shouldn't have taken that long during the lunch hour. Â I think that the assumption should be that we don't get a 2 hour lunch break even if our uniforms are obvious giveaways that we work for the government. Â Of Course we didn't have any pressing meetings to go to and we left work early even after a two hour lunch. Â But just the same, I believe that the wait staff should cut us some slack and not assume that we were gonna be slacking that day.
Now for the reason that I gave only 3 stars despite the good Mexican food.:;
           What is up with the Mexican Soap Operas!!!
They have a TV screen in every conceivable corner of this restaurant for our viewing pleasure to watch a Mexican (alright I am a Gringo and can't tell Mexican from Guatemalan from Chilean, I am making an assumption) Soap Opera. Â It is like being in a Sports Bar for Mexican Soaps. Â I don't like the Soaps. Â It's in Spanish and I am still a bit week with mi Espanol. Â It too damn loud. Â We were the only people in the place, why did we have to shout over the Soap?
Side Note: The actresses on this Mexican Soap were smoking hot!!
I had 45 minutes to wait for my car to be fixed today and was starving and Real de Minas was recommended as having good green chili. It is May 2 and snowflakes are swirling in the air. What should a girl do....go to Real de Minas for a great bowl of green chili.
I have actually been wanting to try this restaurant but being a creature of habit, always turn into Lupita's. Â I am glad I had to walk across the street from Discount Tire (see review) to try their menu. From the moment the warm chips and nice salsa were set in front of me, I was in love. The green chili is wonderful, the bowl huge and filled to the rim. The best part were the succulent chunks of pork (they were spec free as the Husband would say). And it had a nice kick, OK, it had a big kick of heat. It came with my choice of corn or flour tortillas, another plus in my book.
I am a sucker for nice interiors and this hacienda style place is cute. Faux wall treatment, Mexican antique looking tchotchkes, and TVs in every corner playing Mexican soap operas (my way of learning Spanish). Â Also nice booths with the tables bordered by pretty Mexican tile (colors are orange, yellow, and red).
Although I did not have a cocktail, they do have bar service. However, they did have good ice tea. I will be coming back and sharing my time between Lupita's and Real de Minas from now on.
