If you're spending a long day in the hospital across the street (visiting, of course.... I'm not advocating that patients elope from their beds and scurry across the street), Recovery is a decent place to grab lunch.
The service was quick and our three meals came out fast. Â Plenty of tv's with various sports channels to watch. Â I had the veggie burger. Â The menu says that they are hand-made, but I have serious doubts. Â Usually hand-made veggie burgers don't come out in a perfect disc. Â I'm talking perfect circle, uniform flatness on both sides, with a mysterious brown Boca-esque "meat" on the inside.
Nonetheless, the food was decent, cheap, and fast.
Less than stellar food. I tried the chicken fingers (hand dipped). I was told by the waitress it was their specialty. They were dry and tasteless. The coleslaw side had hit the sour/rotting ledge. The French fries were normal but not really good. The only thing that was above par was the pretzels. Warm and soft, they were good. The cheese dip was something like watered down cheese but not terrible.
The rest of the bar, was a bar. One cool table top feature was the radio. You could tune in any TV in the joint to hear the sports. That was a winner.
It's a chain restaurant, on par with the likes of Friendly's and Applebees. But, I suppose I should say more than that.
On a recent excursion to support my mom while she was getting a procedure done at  Albany Medical Center (which is directly across the street) we decided to grab a bite (and the first bite of the day, mind you) during the actual surgery.
I was a little thrown off by the name, considering I was at the Medical Center, and in all honesty I couldn't care less about sports. But it wasn't Panera Bread or Starbucks, so I was all over it.
The hostess was no where to be seen when we first walked in the door and stood there for several minutes before someone came around the corner and acknowledged us.
Our waitress was friendly enough, not over attentive but pretty much just right.
I have a great strategy when it comes to chain restaurants. Just play it safe. Do you really want to order those boneless buffalo wings or that cheeseburger? Hell, even stay away from that veggie burger.
Appetizers are usually pretty safe, same with the salads.
I got the southwestern salad, The two with me ordered a cup of the potato soup each, mozzarella triangles, and the artichoke dip. Safe enough.
My salad was actually quite good. Black beans, corn, romaine lettuce that wasn't dead or wilted (pet peeve of mine), and they even had my honey mustard salad dressing. I know, healthy right?
The whole meal  came to around $30 and was virtually painless.
Play it safe, and you won't be to disappointed.
NEVER AGAIN! Â I'm from Chicago and someone recomened this place for football games. Â As I entered I thought this place was good for the sports enthused. Â Well, that about all I can say postivie about the place. Â I asked if they had the game I wanted to see on, and they did. Â Until their tv dish went out. Â Not once, not twice, not thrice, but FOUR TIMES! Â I missed the football game by a quarter and half waiting for a signal to come through! Â I high tailed it out of there with no intentions of ever coming back.
I drove to Pearl St. in Albany where it seemed every bar there had the game on, including the one I wanted to see. Â I could not believe they allowed that to happen of all days, NFL Sunday kick off.
So I made a trip to Albany and this place was in the first floor of my hotel. Â I was starving and they give 15% off your meal if your at the hotel. Â
The service was kind of hilarious. Â It was this like college kid, comes over and is like, "you want something to drink?" Â HILARIOUS. Â
Anyway, great spot for a quick lunch. Â I had the chicken sandwich. Â It was exactly that....a chicken sandwich. Â
The prices are CHEAP. Â I dont think I have went out for lunch and paid less than $10 ever....
The actual place seems kind of like an adult sports playground....I didnt go in there at night....I was scared.
The place had a chain feel to it but you cant go wrong with a sports bar, especially one that lifts your spirits after sitting in the hospital with your loved ones for hours on end.
Got the chili for an app, wasnt bad.....not great either.
Burger was ordered for the meal and it was pretty awesome, much better than expected.
Hard to go above 3 stars on a sports bar/pizza/burger type place. No complaints though..
It's a bar in the bottom floor of the Hilton Garden Inn - prices and service match that distinction.
Prices are a little high on everything from drinks to food for the quality received due to being in the hotel, however it's not prohibitively expensive.
The food isn't awful, but it's unlikely you'll ever be hanging out and think to yourself "man, I wish I had some RR chow right now." Burgers and the typical "bar food" on the menu are generally the best bet.
The drinks are good, again, slightly over-priced.
If you want to go out for the night to a place that's not crazy crowded and overly noisy, this isn't a bad option - to some, it may be worth paying the slight premium.
Lots of big TVs, gets really crowded during major sporting events.
Service, yes, is a little slow and apathetic but c'est la vie - it's a hotel bar. No delivery that I know of other than room service to the HGI.
This place is like a Hard Rock Cafe for sports. The food is meh, service is a little slow, but people keep on going back because there is nothing else.
Sports fans might like this place because of all the TVs around, sports memorabilia, and little chiller plates at the bar that keeps your drink cold.
Are you guys for friggin' cereal here!? The Recovery Room Rocks!!
I'm bucking the trend of my fellow Yelpers (not the first time). I understand the Recovery Room, I understand when and how to use a place like this. Good looking waitresses(dressed in Jerseys). Tons of TVs all around(even in the bathroom). Sports collectibles are plastered all over the walls. There are great specials on Beer and great tasting bar food such as wings, burgers and fries. The bar has little chillers on it so if you place your beer on the chiller plate it stays cold for you. You add all this up and what you have is a restaurant that's geared towards sports fans, particularly the NFL. If you are a Football fan this place is made for you!
The RR is the most fun to be at on NFL Sunday. When you sit down at a table you get a little speaker which can tune into any TV so you can hear all the games(so damn cool). Tables of fans will cheer, while others will collectively groan, fans will shout things at rival fans and often funny banters will go back and forth during games. It's really fun. Normally you can't decide which game is more exciting to watch but you don't have to decide now because at the Recovery Room you can watch them all on giant HD flat screens. The waitresses are always good and most times pretty knowledgeable about the Football and can make small talk about their team and the season so far(stop drooling guys).
This is not the place to go for dinner, this not the place to bring your mom, it's not even the place to go for a good meal. It's the place to go to watch Football(or NCAA) or etc. drink beers and cheer your team on. I have to go to this place at least once a year during football season. It's always a great time.
Bring your Jersey and Hat on game day and show up early, tables go fast.
Remember those Choose-Your-Adventure books?
Are you a:
Drunken loser who drives a Pontiac Grand Am, has a penchant for terrible food and enjoys screaming at electronic devices during sports games? Â If so, congratulations! Â You've reached your destination.
OR
Do you have a permanent address, semi-decent credit, and know what food is supposed to taste like? Â If so, turn around and drive in any direction until your car runs out of gas. Â Find the nearest restaurant, and enjoy.
--------------------------------------
I'd rather eat hospital food in a real recovery room than have to come back here again. Â Even if you're a sports fan, the food is horrendous and the interior looks like an out-of-business sporting goods store. Â And the waitress sucked. Â Absolutely awful in every way.
The Recovery Room is your typical sports bar. Â I love that it's so big and there are so many TVs (and the speakers on the tables are pretty cool), but sometimes it just feels *too* big. Â I find that when I go there to watch a sporting event, I don't get that camaraderie that I like about being with a bunch of fellows fans. Â Everyone is so spread out and isolated that there is not that collective cheer when something awesome happens, or high fives, etc. Â
The Recovery Room has a robust drinks list and some great beer specials, which makes me happy, but I've never been that impressed with their food. Â Granted I am a vegetarian, and I know I am not really their target audience, but I feel like they could have one or two things on their menu that sound appetizing, or maybe even a salad with no meat on it. Â The waitstaff have all been friendly and on the ball when I've been there. Â But there is still just something about the place that is unappealing to me. Â I'd give them 2.5 stars if I could, but I can't quite give them a 3.
Good place for sports fans. They have a live score ticker right above the kitchen area, so you can be kept up to date on all the games while checking to see if your food is ready anytime soon. They also have this thing called "sportsdog" on each table/booth. It sort of looks like a radio with dials and buttons, and you can choose which tv to listen to or even change the channel. There are LOTS of tv's here, and they also have DirectTV--luckily I've only been here for lunch so it wasn't too noisy and I could still hear myself think, but I imagine it gets really loud at nights especially if there is a big game on.
As for the food/prices, nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary, think TGIF or Applebee's. They have a decent draft beer selection, and all their specialty drinks are named after the local pro and college teams, i.e. the saints, patroons, river rats. A good place to go for a drink and quick lunch with your buddies after class/work, or maybe while visiting someone at the hospital across the street. Oh yeah, the one big minus would be the parking, only meters are available.
Living on the western edge of Albany, we're happy to get an uptown sports bar on the scene. The Recovery Room is exactly what you expect it to be: decent (if predictable) American fare, glitzy (close to cheesy) decor, loud clientelle and flat-screen tvs everywhere you look.
Prices seemed about average, as was the service. Parking might be an issue (street, meter parking), but it wasn't too crowded the night we went.
I'll give it 3 stars because it pretty much met expectations. If you're looking for the sports bar experience but don't feel like heading downtown in Albany, give it a shot.
this is a hard one for me. the food offerings are above average for a sports bar. but this is More than a sports bar, it is a casual dining place for anyone visiting the hospital (thus the oh-so-clever name). it is also hard for me to write as i am in the midst of a horrid allergy attack from sanding drywall yesterday for hours and all i did was sneeze and grab the balloon string that held my head attached to my body for the entirety of lunch. that and get distracted by the tv's lining the entire room. oh. and the overwhelming sports memorabilia. (they may have over done this one. it is like those chain 'woodsy' restaurants or places with every spare inch of the walls and ceilings lined with Real Authentic Antique plows and toys... except it is all sportsy.)
the food however was surprising, at least in it's offerings. they have interesting items such as pulled pork flatbreads, turkey and pesto paninis, a plethora of apps that were typical but hearty portions (rox got potato skins and couldn't finish them. and there was no skimping on the cheese and bacon - real - Â not bits). the menu Was a bit pricey for what the place is however. i suppose that is because of the location, doctors have money, right? and visitors to a friend or loved one in a hospital are usually either numb or shocked or whatever and will pay higher prices for food than normal i find.
the service was friendly and efficient - our server was new and she still was helpful and knowlegable (they have these cool wireless phone type things they put the orders in using a stylus. oooh, technology.) there are also a lot of windows to combat the normal dark sports bar look. the outdoor patio was large and comfy (for an outdoor patio) looking.
so the 3 stars are only because it is a sports bar. and i don't do them. if the theme were different i would probably have given it 4 - it is quite a bit better than places like TGIF or the Macaroni Grill.
OH! i forgot to mention that 2 sodas were $4.58. wtf? for soda? sheesh.
