Is this how they make fried chicken in Indiana? I've tried it here and at Sunshine Cafe, in Muncie, and it really isn't what I'm used to. In the south, friend chicken is breaded, but up here it seems to be battered, which results in a smooth, crispy crust. I don't really like it that much. As an example of its type, I'm sure it was very good. Once I got past the crust, the chicken inside was good enough. The mashed potatoes were very good, but the Mountain Dew wasn't mixed correctly, with too much carbonated water and not enough syrup. The place looked like a dive from the outside, but was clean, if very basic, on the inside. Our waitress was very nice, but we had to wait rather long after we finished eating before we got our check. If they were closer to home (we live in Muncie), we might go back to try some of the other things on their menu, but since they're a half hour away, I doubt we will.
Review Source:The Red Brick is one of those places I have been looking forward to returning to when I got back to the Pendleton area. Â Not only does it have home-cooked food, but they serve you "well water" when you first sit down. Â I remember going to a restaurant when I was a child where my parents would sing the praises of the well water served and I bet this was it, since it has been around for 60 years or more. Â As a kid, I didn't appreciate it and thought it tasted "funny," but now it reminds my of my childhood and my grandmother's house. Â
The waitresses have always been nice to me here, the place is clean and bright, and the food good. Â This time I had the fried chicken, fries, salad and a roll. The salad was crunchy and cold, ranch dressing was good. Â I was forewarned by the other reviewers that the chicken came out extremely hot so I munched on fries while I waited for it to cool down enough to bite into. Â It was delicious once I could eat it. Â Since they had sugar cream pie on the menu I got a piece to go and ate it later. Â It was good, too. Â On my previous trip two years ago I ate here 2 or 3 times and it was always good. Â
There is a large parking lot, which I always appreciate.
I asked for and got a jug of the well water to go so I could keep enjoying it on my trip to the Detroit area, and I look forward to coming back here on my return trip.

Ok, so as the person before me said, good food and awesome fried chicken. I also like the bbq chicken livers, though thats an aquired taste. They arent fried, theye grilled. They also have an amazing bacon cheeseburger and really good hot wings. I would also recommend the greek salad too because I dont think you can ever go wrong with feta cheese. The atmosphere is laid back and the staff and owners are friendly. Really worth checking out!
Review Source:I have been coming here since early in my residency. 1980's at least. One thing you learn as an endocrine doctor is where the restaurants are that make a patient's blood sugar go up. This is one of those places. Nothing fancy here, just good food, good coffee and decent prices, and some of the best fried chicken in east central Indiana! Â The chicken is served really HOT, so don't burn your tongue. The pies are quite tasty too. Â Tonight the strawberry/rhubarb and the peanut butter pies seemed to be going fast.
