" If you close your eyes and tune out the english conversation, you could actually be in Germany"
I really liked this place! A bit grungy, but I like it. The boy and I came here to relive our prior summer in Germany. We sat outside and enjoyed the night air (I highly recommend getting a table outside!) I loved that it wasn't too themed or too artificial. Good beer, pretty good food, tavern vibe, and interesting crowd.
The food was pretty good. We had an order of nuremburgers and vienna white sausage with two large mugs of Frankeskaner. Sauerkraut and Strudel for dessert! It was good meal, not too expensive. Took the leftovers as recommended for the next day's breakfast.
My only real complaint was the service. It took a good hour for our waitress to warm up to us. Maybe it was an off night, but she was abrupt and very disengaged from her job. LIke... you're wearing a durndel, look alive, lady! Once things got a bit busier, she was much more friendly.
It's a tavern for sure, but its' a really good time if you're in the right frame of mind. We will definitely be coming back!
Thank goodness for Groupon! If it weren't for it, I never would've known that this place existed. I came here on a Wednesday afternoon, so it was pretty dead.
Ambiance:
Divey and loud. A lot of German decor, which reminds me of the movie, Beerfest, with all the pictures of Germans on the wall. This is what I imagine a dive bar in Germany would look like. Red Lion consists of two levels. I suggest trying to stay in the first level if you don't like the stench of smokers who are on the second level. The second level is good, however, for larger groups.
Liquor:
1) The beers are awesome! You'll definitely find something you like. I enjoyed the Spaten Lager and Oktoberfest
2) The Schnaps are fantastic! It's not the sweet ones that have 14% abv that you can purchase at the market. The schnaps here are legit and are 40%. I can actually just sip on these drinks. It goes down smoothly with a hint of flavor, depending on what you order and isn't really sweet. This could be very dangerous because of its smoothness and flavor. You can get drunk in no time.
Food:
1) Pretzel is massive! It's great with some deli mustard and this paste that was included. The bartender said what it was, but I couldn't catch it over the noise.

2) Split Pea soup was complimentary. It was just sitting there and the bartender said it was free. It was the first time I encountered split pea soup with sausages. It was okay. It's good to have while you're drinking
Service:
Excellent! Bartender was friendly and made sure we were taken care of.
Parking:
It's a nightmare. There were barely any metered spots on the street and the parking lot is very small. The lot is on a steep hill, so take care when going in and out. (That's what she said)
If I could give this place a slap in the face, I would. They deserve no stars for their discriminative behavior and the way they treat minorities that come to there establishment. My group of close friends were disrespected and assaulted by the security not even 20 minutes from entering the facility. Which I might add, was an equal mix of all races. Some members of my group were treated unfairly while other were left alone. I stop by, not by choice, but due to the fact I have heard numerous stories already about the place. Bouncer got into my friends face when they simple asked about why they were giving us a hard time. We were paying customer that simple were getting a round of drinks after a soccer game. Instead, we were singled out and harassed while other customer were left alone.
Not to mention the management did nothing while there security was able to talk extreme foul language and make threats. To resolve the story. Police were called due to a fight that the bouncers started. After the police arrived, and checked the security camera, they realized we had done nothing and could have pressed charges on the establishment.
Needless to say, we left it alone and left without pressing charges, including sparing the bouncers from going to jail that night. Instead we are just spreading the word. Some groups of people might be welcome there, but not everybody. So be aware, if you want a bar worth going to.....i suggest you look else where.
