Went there for the wife's birthday and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Â Was nice and intimate, the service was great, Â We had the 'Blackened Grouper' which wasn't really blackened, but was excellent, nonetheless. Â They allowed my twins to split an adult steak and my sister had some kind of salad, which she loved.
Much recommended...
My companion and I went to Red River because we heard about their "awesome breakfast buffet". While not "awesome" it does its share of good qualities. For starters, there's an omelet station where they're made to order. Although I passed on the omelet, the line was quite long, so they were at the very least popular.
The buffet has a terrific selection of fresh fruit: ripened strawberries, juicy pineapple, and melon. There were waffles, scrambled eggs, smoked sausage, pork sausage patties, and bacon. The bar also had browned potatoes, biscuits & gravy, yogurt, cold cereal, and oatmeal with a variety of toppings.
Everything I tried was fresh with the exception of the waffles. They were cold and appeared to have been there a long time. Due to the amount of traffic (it was Father's Day), most items were replaced just as soon they ran out.
Overall, Red River's breakfast buffet has a lot of variety and is a good deal for the price - $10.95. The wait staff is quite busy, so don't expect a lot of attention. I'd go again if given the opportunity, but it would not be my first choice.
I guess being from California puts me at a disadvantage--I'm spoiled by great food! And although the staff at both the Marriott and Red River shared their recommendations, everything I tried was at the best, average.
By far, the WORST thing on the menu is the beef brisket and BBQ ribs. They were dry and tough. Even the BBQ sauce couldn't save these disasters--the sauce was bland and tasted like ketchup, expired ketchup. I took no more than 10 bites and threw the meal away. Stay away from the BBQ.
The Spicy Shrimp Pasta was much better. I love spicy food, and this dish was indeed spicy. And it was certainly overpowering! I could barely taste the pasta and shrimp with the overload of onions and peppers. The cheese they include was a great addition and gave the dish an extra kick. The shrimps were large and plentiful, maybe more than 10 pieces. If they made the dish less spicy, this would have certainly been a winner.
The green beans turned out to be an unexpected  favorite at Red River. Flavorful, crispy, and a little bit of spice--yum! Make sure you include them as one of your sides!
Service is great, but the restaurant seems to be empty every time I enter. Pst...it's bc the food, with the exception of the green beans, sucks.
We went here twice this past week (only once by choice, the other by default). Â On Friday, we went because we heard about their all-you-can-eat fish special. Â The fish was nicely breaded and was good sized. Â The cup of clam chowder that came with it was good, but was quite small. Â Also small was the thimble of cole slaw that was a side. Â Yes - the size of a thimble. Â And ONE hushuppy. Â The fish was good, though, and we will be back for some more.
Went here again on Sunday evening. Â Had someone under 21, so we had to sit in the dining room. Â Dining rooms never have the same great feel as the bar seating area. Â It is always so much homier in the bar and has a lot more atmosphere. Â Oh well. Â I got the prime rib dinner with a baked potato and french onion soup. Â The soup was a little salty, but good. Â The prime rib was tender, cooked correclty and tasted wonderful. Â Others in my party ordered the New York strip and the ribeye. Â All were cooked correclty and were tasty. Â The waiter, Grant, was very attentive but not overbearing. Â I will definately eat here again, but will have to sit in the dining room if we have the kidlet. Â Too bad, because the bar area has much more atmosphere than the stuffy dining room.
