This is a pretty fun place!

I was visiting the S.O. in Fresno and was not really sure what Fresno had to offer.  We went to this little dive bar around the corner and we were both pleasantly surprised.  First, do not expect anything glamourous, but do expect to have a good time.

First, the drinks are the best part of the place.  I ordered the Michelada because it is one of my favorite drinks but everyone was walking around with them.  It was the BEST Michelada I have ever had.  It had a lot of spice (thank you Tapatio...) and lots of chili powder/salt. I got it with Dos Equis beer and I was good to go. One more thing to mention, they're HUGE.

We went on a Wednesday night and it was pretty much a college night.  They played music from the 90's which always harkens me basic to a nostalgic time.  They also had an awesome selection of karaoke songs. I did get up and sing a little AC/DC which was pretty amazing.

The people here are really nice and there is a lot of seating options as well. When I am back in Fresno, I would have no issue coming here again.

Thursdays and .50 Cent Tacos. Nuff Said. Some of the best Red Beers/Micheladas in Fresno and if you aren't into that whole bag they have plenty dark and wheat beers on tap. If you can't have fun here you can only blame yourself. The atmosphere depends on you!

Tortas and Wings(Personal Favorites) and pretty much all the food is always consistently good bar food.

They have some Soju and Tequila you can ask for but its not a full liquor bar.

This place is cheap and bang for buck you cant go wrong.

Wasn't sure what to expect, it was way smaller than I thought but the only beer thing....not what I expected at all.  The food was very average bar food and the atmospere was a little boring.

Besides all the good beer on tap the food is always good here!  Better then descent pricing takes the Red Wave to that next level!  $.50 taco night is awesome, and the taco plate is one of the best in town!  Come on tacos and beer,  do I have to say more?

Thursday night is taco night. 50 cent tacos and 1.50 dollar miller life. It's a pretty cool and chill place. Lots of people.

Great place to go on Thursday for .50 cent tacos. They also make great "red beers". Across from Fresno State where a lot of college student go, but there are also a lot of none Fresno State student that go there as well. One thing is their parking, hard to find on busy nights (Thursday).

Cool hole-in-the wall bar. As my brother and I were on a road trip to Lotus, Ca., we decided to find a bar and have a drink. Found this spot. Small but cheap prices. Good selection beers on tap.

Showed up at 5 on a Thursday "taco Thursday."  It's been 7 months and I finally saw a super hot chick in Fresno. Apparently things get good on Thursday nights. met a hand full of cool people too. The tacos were close to taco bell style, except for the better quality cheese and a tub of pico upon request. Super dope deal at .50 a pop. I ordered 5 they gave me 6 cause they are cool.  Fun times. Looks like I know what I'm doing on Thursday's from now on. they didn't even need to be told to be asked to put the British Open on. They never stop surprising me. Also met a guy who was on divorce cout, his story checked out i looked it up.

There beers are huge and the Torta is to die for. Just don't go in there in a hurry food takes 45min and when busy the service is super slow. But if you have time I recommend.

This place was just the thing for an out-of-towner who'd had a day of jacked up flights and car rental issues.

Noticed the bartender making some weird drink with Dos Equis and tomato juice...turns out it was their very excellent version of a chelada.  I ordered some wings and 3 tacos...man, I was suprised at how good the tacos were.

The local folks were cordial but not nosy.  Nice balance for a guy who travels a lot and deals with both extremes.

It's a dive bar.  The sign out front is broken and I'm glad I was walking over from my hotel or I'd have missed it.  But the food was great and the beer was ice cold.  Sometimes that's all a guy needs.

    One of my favorite places.

I kinda' miss the old one, but the new one still has the great food, ice-cold beer and very cool owners.

This place is pretty much the same as ever, but it seems to have slid downhill just a tad.

One thing I noticed upon entering last night is that almost all exterior lights are not working, even the sign isn't working.  The only light near the entrances are the singular open sign in the window, but with the windows all blacked out it was damn near pitch black outside.

Another thing that was kind of out of place was the sheer amount of tejano music that was playing automatically from the jukebox.  This is a college bar and it was a little odd choice of music.

Another thing that was bothersome was one of the customers was literally yelling in to his cell phone to a friend, talking about intimate sexual acts with some lady.  Now when I go in to a bar, I don't expect it to be classy suit and tie affair, but really now, I don't need to hear some drunk dude yelling at the top of his lungs in to his cell phone about every sexual act he had just done, but apparently the bar staff felt this was quite alright and let him continue on for a good 20 minutes.

Lastly there was a complaint I always have when I come here, its takes forever to pay your tab.  When you ask to get your card and the bill, they always manage to disappear in to the back room, finally reemerging and seeming to have forgotten that you want to pay and leave, at which point you have to remind them again.  I realize that on busy nights it can be a challenge, but this happens regardless of the other number of patrons in the place.  Last night it was pretty dead, and it still took nearly 20 minutes to get my card back so I could pay.

Went on a Thursday night, and it was too crowded. Took forever to just get a beer. They had a wide selection of beers on tap at a decent price which was the only upside. Their 75 cent tacos weren't good, it's one of those tacos in a box you can buy at the grocery store

I love this place!!! Except one of the bartenders (female) was sooooo rude to me once and that kinda threw me back...I like it here..ambient is ok..i've seen a few gangsta fights ..bottles thrown, bottles cracked on heads..etc..Thursdays are supposedly the best days to go but if you want something chill..i would say Tues/Wed

    Micheladas are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a great time at this establishment the people and drinks were great. I went on a Thursday and that's the night they have tacos for 50 cents.  I don't have much to say on the tacos only that 50 cents is over pricing them.  Basically, it's a crunchy taco shell, ground beef flavored with cumin/pepper, and some shredded lettuce.  Also, the music was way too loud and you could hardly have a low key conversation.  All in all, I'd go back and hangout.  One more thing, keep your eye on the bouncers... my friend was eyeing this booth and saw the party leave, when he went and tried to sit down the bouncer told him the party had all went to the restroom and he was holding it for them.  Needless, to say it was a lie and the bouncer was saving it for his friends who arrived 5 mins later.  Shady!

Good grief, the chile verde burrito is to die for.  Their chile verde is the real star....the carne asada was just average.  Their pico de gallo is outstanding as well: picante and tasty.

I probably don't have to mention the beers on tap, but I will: they have a surprisingly big selection of beers, and all are reasonably priced.

They're always friendly and welcoming, and treat you well there.

I went to Fresno State, but I somehow didn't discover this place until AFTER I moved away. It makes me super sad. Although, I probably wouldn't have loved it as much. When I was in college I was super girly and liked places with loud music and dancing and stiff mixed drinks. Now though, I like a place where I can catch up with friends over a few cheap beers.

Red Wave is the perfect place for that. They have a HUGE beer selection. Most places in Fresno only have Bud Light and Coors Light. If you are lucky there is a Blue Moon and a Sierra Nevada Tap. I hate beer out of a bottle! Living in the Pacific Northwest, I have gotten spoiled with our great local breweries, and awesome beer selections. Going to Fresno makes me sad.

The Red Wave makes me happy though! They have like 30 beers on tap, and lots of them are delicious. They even have Smithwicks, which is one of my favorites, as well as both Widmer and Pyramid Hefeweizen. They have fancy beers for my fancy beer drinking boyfriend too, like Firestone DBA.

Plus, the beers are cheap! We were there for 4 hours, had to be driven home cuz we were so drunk, and only spent $30 on beer! Apparently, they also have really good tacos.

Its a dive bar, and the bartender is slow and sometimes rude, but they have the best beer selection in town, with cheap prices, and lots of places to grab a table and catch up with old friends.

The Red Wave is a shining example of what  the great american melting pot SHOULD be: gang members sharing beers with econ majors, co-eds dancing with red necks and caballeros, all united by the power of over 30 beers on tap.  Great homemade food too

I like this place with a descent beer selection and college atmosphere and pretty good food.  Only reason why I am not rating it higher is that I was charged twice for a beer on a credit card.  I called and a manager was suppose to call me back but never got that call.

So just don't use credit cards here.

So I went there for lunch - I know it's a bar, but a coworker swore up and down that the food was good. The food was surprisingly good. It smells like a dive bar (because it is one). I'm sure it is a fun place to go in the evening, but don't over look it for lunch. Try the tortas. YUM.

I'm a pretty good fixture to this place. Not lately, though. I'm on a first-name basis with all of the bartenders and usually get first dibs among a monstrous crowd on Thursday 50cent taco night.

Anyway, I love this place. I love that it's within walking distance from the music building at school and just go there in between classes for a beer.

They have about 35 beers on tap and they charge about $6... granted these are 25 ounces of beer (or 35 ounces for domestic), so it's pretty reasonable. I love their food - nothing beats the carne asada torta. Their burritos are pretty boss as well.

    Five stars.

Ok I just went back here yesterday, around 6 PM. I had a much better time, considering this time I could sit next to the person I came with and actually be able to hear a conversation with her, lol. As I stated in my previous review, every other time I'd been here it was packed to standing room only. Being able to sit at the bar and get outstanding service from one of the friendliest damn bartenders I've ever met, was awesome. He gave me samples of almost every beer they had on tap, not because I asked, but just to show off some of his favorites.

When you go, get a tall glass of Arrogant Bastard and an order of jalapeno poppers. Best jalapenos ever! Good little bar to start off an evening, just make sure you get there on the early side. We stayed til 9 before heading out to the next spot, and there was still room to sit and socialize.

So oddly enough I am a Fresno State student and have never visited this establishment before. Probably due to the fact that my loathing for my home town drives me outside of it's borders whenever I have the most minute amount of free time. That being said I knew little about the place. I knew it was a divey kind of bar and some of my friends came through here once in a while.

First, I am not that huge on beer (GASPS!!! WHY DID I GO HERE THEN?!?!) I know...but in my defense I had no idea they didn't serve any [Hard] liquor. However, the place has soju and that my friend spells a good time for me. Also they have pear and raspberry cider on tap which is right up my alley.

First impression...Chill...honestly I like a place that you don't have to get dressed up to go to. I am a jeans and band-tee kind of girl most of the time and love a place that can cater to my casual nature. It was a karaoke night so there were people up at the T.V. having a good time belting out some tunes. The bar was packed food and drinks' flowing up and down the place, but it wasn't full to the point that your business was in someone else's face without invitation. My initial shock and crying over the fact that I could not obtain my signature Grey goose cocktail was quickly halted at the mention of Soju. SO I ordered 2 shots and a raspberry cider, shots were served up and then my MASSIVE, yes I mean MASSIVE, jug of cider set down. I think if I become a regular here I might develop carpal tunnel or something carrying around those glasses all night. Anyways, the soju was cold and good so I got another shot a little while later and still was working on the cider. The longer we were there the more comfortable I got...thank the alcohol? Maybe...thank the place and the bartenders? Definitely!!

This place is chill, quick and easy...Different from a lot of other places in Fresno that is for sure. If you are a Beer lover definitely come they have a HUGE selection of Beer on tap. Not so into beer? it is ok they got you covered too...I'd recommend this place to anyone looking to hang out grab some food some drinks and just relax...I know I'll be back again.

Fresno, you are one of the worst cities I have ever been to.  And what do I like to do when I go to shitty cities?  You got that right...I like to drink.  But unfortunately, Fresno is FULL....FULL! of bars that seem to attract only the lowest forms of life.  I'm talking about the bro dudes, the sluts, the wannabe gangsters all of whom wouldn't know what a book was if it slapped them in the face.

    Fresno, I hate you.

With all that in mind, Red Wave seems to be one of the few places in Fresno I can still go and not have to worry about running into one of the thousands of cracked out skank whores or over-roided jocks that I went to high school with.  Not only does this hole-in-the-wall bar provide me with a safe place to drink, but they have a very un-Fresno selection of beers.  There were 30 something beers on tap which makes me infinitely happy.

I've heard the food is great here for bar food but I didn't have an appetite to try it at the time.

This place is great for a quick drink before, after, even in between classes and is conveniently located across the street from Fresno State. My friend is a regular and he introduced me to the place. I must admit that I was impressed! They serve a ton of quality beer on tap and the prices are incredibly reasonable. They also serve up some great Mexican food if you're hungry. There's also karaoke and food specials on select nights. Overall, it's a pretty chill place to hang out.

    I hate Fresno.

    Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate Fresno.

Actually it's the heat and air quality I despise, the city itself, esp. from the Tower southward, isn't that bad.

However, I must point out that my folks live there, I actually have a job (radio) there, and still, I will only make the travel south from the Bay Area if a family member were to be gored by one of the many chain-less pit bulls roaming the streets.

I present this picture of loathing to you in order to further underscore how much I love The Wave.

    I Loooooooooooooove "The Wave".

If my sister shoots me an e-mail saying "Yo, bro, let's kick down some beers at the Wave"... I'd be like... "Hmmm... yeah... 3 hour drive... $50 in gas.... "

    "Sure, no problem."

I was indoctrinated to this place, as any good Fresno St. alum, during my dodgy undergrad years. At that time it was literally your neighborhood hole-in-the-wall bar with, as the previous reviewer mentioned, CHEAP, ice-cold beer (that includes the Hoffbrau-size mugs they pull out of a mini-freezer behind the bar), and inexpensive, delicious home-cooked Mexican food.

Now, they've expanded a *tad*: The bar is longer, space is cleaner, food selection boasts a wider variety, and 36 MOTHERFUCKING BEERS ON TAP. ON T-A-P.  Things like 1554, Blue Moon, Hemp Ale, not to mention all the usual suspects like Fat Tire, Sierra Nevada, Guiness and the like.... and that's just on TAP. They've got a fridge full of bottled delights like Sapporo, Asahi, and Negro Modelo. They've got more tables and cleaner booths. Make-out potential is still quite high despite the improved lighting situation.

Want to get your shot on with some Jager or Tequila? Done.

Want your ice-cold yumminess with some Clamato? Done.

Would you like a Torta with that? Double Done.

My sister would probably take off a star since it's become impossible to find "Billie Jean" on their new jukebox.... but that only reinforces the fifth star for me.

    My sister can't dance.

I haven't been here in like 15 years, but I'm pretty sure that if you went in and mentioned my name you'd get chased down the road with pitchforks.

There was a brief time when I pondered living in Fresno, attending their university, etc.  I had a friend who already had made this mistake and I decided to live up there for a summer and check it out.  Lo and behold, the place was a blister on the mole on the cancer in the center of California, but punch me sideways if there wasn't this little, tiny bar next door called the Red Wave Inn.

CHEAP, decent beer ($3.75 for a 32oz mug of Anchor Steam) and home cooked mexican fare along with Taco Tuesdays (25 cent tacos. not shitting you here).  They also had an air conditioner which meant that this is where we were destined to spend the better part of that summer, whittling away at our livers and self respect.  Good times.

Eventually I wised up and moved back down to San Diego, but my buddy stayed and eventually was run out of town for a myriad of trysts with the locals that caught up to him.

But, if you're ever by Fresno State University entrance on Shaw, have a peek in that strip mall behind the Kinkos.  You're in for a real treat.
