I'll stop here for Wednesday night trivia. Be sure to make a reservation because it gets really crowded. The food is decent and the service is hit or miss. The trivia questions are relatively easy and when I don't feel like going far, this is where I end up.
If you care to join me, hit me up. I'd love to have a good group for trivia in my 'hood.
Recently, I was lucky enough to find my friend getting verbally and physically attacked by 6 unknown girls. It all started...oh wait, there was no reason to explain how this all started. Next thing I know, all six girls had emptied their "classy" drinks on her and she was dragged by her hair from the back bathroom through the front entrance. While on her forced journey to the front door, she tried to grab onto a bartender for help, and unfortunately he was mad that she "pushed" him when she went to ask him after the attack why he wouldn't help her. Once outside, after many visable punches and loud screaming, two more "bouncers" decided to watch one girl get attacked by 6 XL girls.. Keep in mind if this involved guys, they would not hesitate to jump in and stop the fight. This brings me to the conclusion that a bouncer is defined as "A security professional who is employed by a nightclub, bar, or event space. He ensures his facility maintains legal compliance by not allowing minors into drinking establishment and turning away visitors who may be intoxicated. He also administers crowd control and breaks up any disturbances or acts of physical violence."
A fight that wasn't warrented against an innocent person should have been stopped by management, bartenders, or at least the bouncers that are employed to do just that. I don't expect a bar like this to employ the most upstanding citizens, but I do expect that a SECURITY GAURD should do his job and also make the decision to help a person that is in need in front of his eyes. Enough said.
I work out this way and am in need of a good happy hour spot. Unfortunately, this isn't a contender. First, the service is pretty poor. Over the course of about 2.5 hours we were waited on maybe three times, each time feeling like a burden. Second, the food is mediocre. They have a large menu so I expected more than average bar fare, but that's all they deliver. Last, the drinks are awful. I ordered a whiskey on the rocks - seemingly difficult to mess up - and got what tasted like whiskey-flavored water. I should have known to change my order when the server seemed surprised by it.
Review Source:Last week exactly we left my son with my parents to have a night out with my baby daddy and his friends. First time him and I have been to the place. Many of his friends said that it's normally not as poppin'. That it's regularly just a bar with music and no dancing. Maybe they knew I was coming or something because it was on. Great music, good, strong drinks, and lots of dancing. They should do it like that every Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. There were just two things I didn't like. #1.There was only three bartenders for a large crowd. I'd get at least once more in there. #2. It ended at 1:30a.m.! Not cool! Normally clubs or bars close around 2-2:30a.m. Overall I'd go back. Service was good, and it's close to home. Thank you staff at Redcoats British Pub!
Review Source:I've come here on 2 occasions, both were so different atmospheres, it was like night and day!
The first time I came here with my mother for dinner and it was such a good experience. Nice, warmly lit bar and restaurant with families and couples dining and chatting. My mom and I even recognized a couple next to us who were the parents of a kid I was friends with from high school and we chatted and caught up with them. Totally a great hometown atmosphere that evening.
The next time I came here this place had turned into a full blown night club. Super loud music, bouncer at the door charging a cover (even for girls!!) and when we went in, we saw the trashiest scum of the earth people grinding on each other. I was like WTF this is NOT the same place I had dinner with my mom!!
The first time I came here was so nice I give it 4 stars for good food and drink, but minus one for the second visit.
I will have to come back here, just not late into the evenings I guess....
I don't remember how I ended up here one night but from what I remember it was good.
Its not what you would expect from a British Pub, or what I have experienced. This place is well lit, good drinks, good food, and the service was nice. I would come back here again, consciously and willingly next time.
Now I know that British food can be a bit uninspired, but I've been to England and enjoyed some really delicious traditional food. This place had non of that. On top of this, getting even a menu out of our waitress after 9pm was like pulling teeth. I had to ask get her attention every time we needed something. I wanted an extra drink and she ignored me completely. I went up to the bar, and she was serving drinks there too, looked me right in the eye and turned around and left the bar. I would have bought 2 more drinks if someone had been willing to pay any attention to the cash I was holding in my hand standing at the bar for 5 minutes. And it wasn't even busy.
At 10:30 this place turned into a mini club with music and dancing. Which I think it great for a town like Pleasentton. Unfortunately, the DJ was doing the play snippets of old 90's songs under laid with a pathetically basic dance beat along with redetermined videos. Â Not only did he not play entire songs, but they were awful choices that only allowed you to dance in second gear. A good club will get you dancing is at least 4th gear. Will never visit here again. And I'm never letting my girlfriend pick the restaurant again.
Redcoats British Pub and the Crown in danville share a common owner. Redcoats is smaller, doesn't have the british feel. Â many flatscreens around. more sports oriented than brit.

-service by bartender almost nonexistent

-food bland, lots of choices, probably all prefrozen.
-artisan cocktails available HH (6).
-irish pubs more fun, brit bars too stoic.
We went to Redcoats with a LocalGruv coupon and honestly had low expectations since the place isn't known for it's food so much as it's traditional pub like atmosphere and great beer in the heart of Pleasanton's historic downtown.
We were really impressed with the salads. In fact, I'd give Redcoats a 3.5 for the salads - a chinese chicken number and the super club salad. The personal chicken and cheese pizza was worth 1 star. The cheese was kind of cheap tasting and chicken skimpy. I feel like they should just not offer pizza at all rather than offer something that is no better than what is served at mess halls.
The service is very friendly and attentive. The prices for lunch portions are VERY reasonable.
Parking is relatively plentiful since Redcoats shares a lot with a few other restaurants and has lots of street parking nearby.
The iced tea was 2 star quality and I wouldn't go there just for that...get a beer to have the full experience.
Overall, Redcoats gets a 3 star rating for the decent salads, good prices, solid service, and great location.
My friends got married. Â And they chose Redcoats for the rehearsal dinner. Â Now, if you know my friend Dave, you would know that anywhere that he is will be a TON of fun... and this was no exception. Â Now the tough thing is I am not sure whether or not it is the place that is fun or the people who were there... Â Anyway on this night Redcoats was a blast! Â and is well deserving of a four star review. Â
I love British pubs... I can order a black and tan and not have to explain to the bartender what it is... the drink will be BLACK and TAN and not just a big blended dark tan colour (British spelling). Â Now a friend wanted a skinny b*tch, that one had to be explained... apparently there are several skinny b*tches... Â My friend wanted Vanilla Vodka with diet coke... Made me wonder, if it was made with regular coke would be be a Fat b*tch? Â or if you made it with Vanilla Coke and regular vodka would it taste the same?
Appitizers A+ Â liked the bacon wrapped shrimp... they were good... the bacon tasted grilled, not boiled the way the British would probably do it.
I had fish and chips. Â A- Â
I am pretty sure that our party took up about 85% of the restaurant... probably the other 15% were ordering their drinks on the same tab... so they scored too! Â
So go to Redcoats, order a black and tan and toast Dave and Michelle! Â Pleasanton's most awesome newlyweds!
Came here for a birthday who had reserved the room upstairs.
Apparently the air conditioning had broke that night. But the security upstairs refused to open the door saying he wasn't allowed to. So we moved around from upstairs to downstairs and back upstairs where it was less crowded trying to get some air. There is a second bar upstairs that is rarely utilized. Got a vodka sprite.. and the sprite was straight flat. They had poured it from a pitcher.. and I look confused as it had no bubbles whatsoever. When I drank it.. it was flat and watered down. Drinks are pricy.
However the music was pretty poppin. They do video DJing too.. so it was a nice change.
Good times, stay late enough1-2am and you might be getting lucky, lol. Jk
Never had their food so this review will be strictly based on there "club" side of business. No cost to get in is a plus, but when u have no where to sit other than the toilets and hardly anywhere to walk you head straight to the bar so you can at least lean on something. Getting to the bAr can be a little tough, but once your there the service wait time is pretty low. Drinks aren't half bad and if u r familiar with the waiters or tip decently then your drink is a little stronger. All in all it's a great 21-30 experience especially after the downtown Pleasanton first Wednesday fair.
Ive been here twice for lunch and both times the food was great. I had soup and sald combo and it came with a little chicken sandwich and it all tasted very fresh! I also have had the fish and chips there and that was just okay...
As far as going out... its a pretty well rounded group all ages come here
Went there this past Friday and the food was great! There was a good crowd and the service was very good.
Looking forward to going back. Their prices are very reasonable and great selections on the menu!
The place definitely has the feel of a pub but with very good pub food. It is noisy but expected. Definitely check it out!
Ok, so it is a pub.... but from some of the photos you find online it looks like a bar with a lot of loud, drunk, young kids.... honestly not my kind of place I'd like to go to have a pint.
Bit when  good friend of mine suggested it I decided to give it a try and check it out, maybe get a good yelp story out of it.... well it was the exact opposite. Chill, low key, and not many people at all (granted it was 4pm, just starting their happy hour, and not  a single young person there, my buddy and I were the youngest; which is totally fine by me.
During out 2 hours there we saw maybe 3 couples come in, have 1 beer and leave... no talking or eating, just a beer, and out.... a little weird. I mean granted we were there as a pre game to our sushi meal that awaited us at Main Sushi at 5PM when they opened (we got a boat :D) so we didn't intend on staying that long, but ended up staying longer cause the food was good and the beer was cold (note I didn't say the beer was good, tasted like they needed to clean their taps, really iron tasting).
If I was really craving a beer and pub feel, I'd come here again, but I might opt to pre game someplace out before my sushi, maybe at one of the other really good restaurants on main st. . . . Â hm... I haven't yelped some of these places yet.... well I guess I gotta go eat.
To sum up:
Go at 4PM on a weekday
Good Decor
Good Food
Good prices
Decent beer
Enjoy.
Came here for pub trivia tonight with a group that swelled to about 10 people. They had some trouble accommodating us; one person was wedged in on the side and could basically not get up once he sat down without other people getting up (and this was not a booth). Halfway through our meal, another group of 6-7 people came in and wedged me in as well.
Food was a bit overpriced - my fruit and blue cheese salad was $11 and barely enough to feed one person (I split it with someone else, and ended up staring enviously at other people's food). Service was fair; our food came in a timely fashion and our waitress kept checking on us.
Pub trivia was pretty fun, but I would say that was because of the group I was with, and not really the announcer or the venue. The announcer didn't enunciate well and the sound system was right next to our table, so we heard a lot of noise but not with clarity. There was a lot of confusion amongst multiple groups (including ours) over one question as to whether the announcer said "torus" or "torque". The announcer also seemed pretty bored through the whole thing.
I felt pretty out of place here - some reviewers have mentioned cougars being in abundance, and as I will not be a cougar in age for at least 14 years and hopefully never in mentality, this doesn't seem to be a place for me now or in the future.
I did run in here after closing because two friends had bought souvenir beer glasses and left them there, and the bartender gave them to me with no questions asked. That was really nice of him!
Can you say COUGAR CENTRAL?! Â Holy shit. Â Does every hot 40+ year ole decide to gather here and have meeting about how to steal thier husbands money every night or what? Â The drinks are a LITTLE too expensive for my taste but they are made really strong and the bartenders are AWESOME! Â That's the only thing that jumps my rating up from two to three stars. Â The food is mediocre and its not a very good place to watch sporting events, the aesthetics aren't great and the seating is kind of cramped during peak hours. Â
The great service, drinks and drunk food is what gets me going!
No stars! The wait staff were rude & unhelpful. My friend got there at 9:30 pm to wait for me & never received any service. When I got there at 9:45 pm again nothing...when we finally asked they said they stopped taking orders at 10 pm. Someone could have told us that when my friend walked in. It was just RUDE.
It was bizarre! Did we look out of place? Perhaps -is that ever a good reason to not serve people? Â We had cash in hand but left to spend it elsewhere.
I will never go there again.
Gayle and I (plus Kid) had just returned from a Saturday drive out to Pt. Reyes Station (and back through Petaluma) when one my son's Summer Camp friends called and wanted to get together. This now part-time parent will do almost anything to encourage this sort of thing, so we immediately agreed to take him down to Pleasanton for a "play date". OK at age 15, it's more hanging out and playing video games. The friend's parents were also thrilled too and a 2+ hour visit was agreed and later considered all around to be a big success.
After we dropped the Kid off, we decided that it would be a better idea to hang out in Downtown Pleasanton rather than do another Pleasant Hill round-trip. Considering my biased notion of the San Ramon Valley, I was impressed and charmed by Downtown Pleasanton. There's a lot of potential for future dining and entertainment options, and we look forward to our next visit.
During this short interlude today, all we were looking for was a comfortable pub atmosphere that would allow me to watch a game and Gayle to read a book. We ended up at in a nice booth at Redcoats and felt that it was a great choice. Our only complaint was the sometimes slow service, specifically the time it took for drinks, food, and the bill to come out. Still, we came here for happy hour, and after 2 drinks each and very generous portions of 3 delicious appetizers, we left full, but very pleased with our overall experience (and the bill).
RedCoats is right up there with amazing. Â The bartenders are fast, FUN, friendly and downright chill people. Â Its my favorite watering hole in Pleasanton. Â Security is cool too! Â Oh, and CLEAN BATHROOMS! Â How's that for a high five! Â Thats hard to find when you are surrounded by dirty dancing drunken young adults with no bathroom etiquette.
Be sure to order the CALAMARI. Â You might want to order one per person. Â You can thank me later.
Bring some friends who like to dance cause the music is great! Â People of all ages shake their thangs all over the Pub!
Went here for lunch, will go again one night for a weekend to whoop it up....
Nice beer selection, of course, and very decent appetizer menu. I had the bubble n squeak which was very tasty and complimented my Guinness. The rest of the menu sounded interesting so another lunch visit will be in the near future, I think.
The place itself is clean and the decor is inviting, in my opinion. The outside area looks like a neat place to have a group of friends hanging out.
Staff at this visit were friendly and accomodating and weren't in a hurry to see us back out the door.
Stop 4 of the bay area bar tour, hehehe.....
I've been here a couple of times before and actually had a great time EVERY time. This review is for the club, not the restaurant....I had no idea they even serve food! HAHAHA! But, for the music and bar, this place is great!
The atmosphere is not middle-class and not upper-class....It is very homey inside and the other patrons do not stare you down like you are entering a lions cave, which is appreciated. There are many locals here, but they actually do try to have a conversation with you and make you feel welcome.
The drinks are good and priced about right. I like the dancing and music, which is unusual for a joint in Pleasanton. I will return because it is a pretty cool spot!
I never knew Redcoats existed until yesterday. Â I'm a little too old (and saddled with children) for the late night stuff and I usually seek out all things Irish, not British, but I heard they had a good happy hour so I was sold.
First off, this place is so nice! Â Probably the least dirty pub I've ever seen.
As far as service goes, the daytime female bartender was chatty and upbeat, but when the nighttime bartender took over, things were a little more standoffish.
The happy hour prices were good ($5 cocktails and $3 beers) and I am very thankful to have been introduced to Blueberry Lemon Martinis. Â
Hooray for Redcoats for getting my anniversary off to a great start!
Ever since Union Jacks closed down a few years ago there has  been a void in the down town bar scene. Sure you can go to Past Time Pool but who wants to wear their flak jacket and worry about random shankings. So when this place opened up, I was pretty excited. Alas, Redcoats fell short of my expectations. I am going to break my review into two parts
First up the restaurant. This is pretty much where I have my major beef with this place. Â I came here last year with my buddy and I ordered the bangers and mash. Thinking that it was a British place I would be in for a treat. Wow was I wrong. The sausage were kind of weird and had a Vienna sausage taste to them. Maybe some people like that but not for me. I was so turned off by it that I asked for something else. This is the first time in a long long long time that i have sent something back but I just couldn't go threw with it. I ordered a turkey burger instead and that was pretty bad too.
I haven't been to the bar enough to give it a proper review but the drinks seem pretty expensive and it gets really loud and crowded.
Definitely fits the image of a Pleasanton based British Pub. Â Everything looks brand new, large comfy chairs for the tables surrounding the bar that sits about 12 customers, and an outdoor patio that is perfect to relax on during nice weather.
I went to Redcoats for happy hour while the Sharks playoff game was on. Â Not too many people were there for the sole intention of viewing the game, but I noticed everyone was watching on one of the pub's 5 or 6 wide screen TVs. Â
Pretty tasty pub food with a full bar that doesn't contain any "Nascar" beer. Â I never realized how popular light beer is among the 20 something Pleasanton demographic. In a short time span, I heard 3 different dudes ask for something light and ended up disappointed as they walked away with a Stella. Â
Overall decent atmosphere with good food and beer.
I like coming here a lot. Â It is a good place to come with a group of girlfriends or a big group of friends or just for a quite night out with the boyfriend. I like the new pizza's that have been added to the menu and my boyfriend claims they have the best fish and chips around. Â The staff is always friendly and helpful and the drinks are good. Â I love the fact that they do not rush you here. Â If you feel like eating and then sitting at the table for four or five hours they are fine with that. Â This is a great place to go if you want to get a drink and some good food and just relax.
P.S. If you go on sunday and they have the tomato soup then you are in luck. Â it was amazing.
I did not eat here...came for the nightlife at around 10:30 with the ladies for dancing and drinks. Â Yay for no cover charge! Â I have to agree w/ others that the bartenders are not friendly. Â
It's really quite an odd crowd, cougars, some older couples, young and those 25-30 thrown-in.  Music was top  40 at the beginning of the night, but by 12:30 or so it became gansta rap.  Easy enough to dance to, but not my fave.
Bathrooms were pretty clean, insanely hideous lighting. Â Can't say I'll rush to go back but we all had a good time.
Props for finding my credit card and locking it in their safe. Â No, I was not plastered, but somehow while balancing my drink, coat and purse I missed the opening to my purse and didn't hear it drop onto the floor cuz of the music. Â Next time I'll set my drink down!
First of all, I hate Pleasanton. I've discovered throughout the course of my life that a majority of people who like to make Pleasanton their home have the general mentality of "I'm better than you". Now weather it's because they think they're better because they make more money (they don't really lololol), drive nice cars, or because they were born with a brain defect, I honestly don't know. But I HATE venturing into Pleasanton with a passion.
So you may ask, "Michael J., why the hell would you go to Redcoats, if you hate Pleasanton so much?" Well, it's quite simple actually. When a beautiful woman calls you and says "OMFG, wud u liek alkeihal wif me an mi frndz, lol", of course I am going to go...against my better judgment, but hey...everything deserves a second chance...right?
Holy crap, god in heaven...please deliver me from the horror I am about to see. Now, I understand the general mindset of the most of the people who hang out in Pleasanton bars. They're better than everyone, and unless you have a lot of money, are at least 6'2, and dressed in an outfit that makes you look like a douche bag they won't talk to you. I understand that. But seeing it and having to experience it is entirely different.
So aside from the crowd being comprised of spoiled rich kids, shallow women, and complete douche bags, the place it self is actually quite nice. Very nicely decorated. Very comfortable to be in. The patio area is nice on a cool night. The dance area where the tools like to dance is quite nice. The people who work there are sort of friendly.
I guess I just really hated all the people there. And honestly...if you're going to a bar, the people are part of the reason why you'd want to go/come back. Dear god...nothing but terrible people at this place.
Don't get wrong. I'm sure the place has wonderful food (have yet to try it) but it terms as a club for the night life...no, I don't think so. Majority of the people who like to gather here are a bunch of social rejects who think they are part of the beautiful/popular crowd. No assholes. Just because you're parents make a lot of money and spoil you with lavish gifts, a bank account, and a few credit cards doesn't make you better than anyone. It makes you a worthless tool who will amount to nothing in your life. Stop acting like you're better than everyone. You're not. You're a tool. A mindless drone who has lost all sense of self worth. You're a hollow image of what society wants you to be. You have no personality. You have no identity.
So really, just die already. The world is better without you people anyway.
So I've been back here a few times and my opinion is still on the fence. This is one of the few times that I wished there was such a thing as 0.5 stars, because I'd up them that much. But my previous visits here left such a bad taste in my mouth that I just can't give them that extra star. Maybe after a few more visits. But for now - my update:
Good: The service has improved drastically at least - definitely more friendly and waitstaff come by quite often to refill drinks and ask if we needed anything.
Bad: The food is still all fried and rather unimpressive.
Good: The beer selection is still fab!
Bad: The TINY bar area is still very crowded and noisy as all hell. And there always seems to be an interesting mix of barely-legal drunk girls, jewel-encrusted cougars, and cologne-dripping d-bags. Â
Good: Said cougars, drunks and d-bags make for quality entertainment! Example:
Tracy (trying to get the attention of a waiter, accidentally bumps into an older woman): Oh, pardon me.
Cougar: Â Oh I love your top!
Tracy: Thanks!
Cougar: But you need to show more cleavage honey! The young ones LOVE the cleavage.
(Cougar pulls her V-neck top down even further, winks at me, and grabs the nearest dude and plunges his face into her chest.)
Cougar: You loved that didn't you.
Man in his 30s: Um.... do I know you?
If you've seen my other reviews, you know I'm usually pretty thorough. So you'll pardon my brevity in this case.
I had dinner at Redcoats this evening and have just seven words to summarize my experience:
THERE WAS A WORM IN MY FISH.
Witnesses can confirm that it wasn't a sprout or a fish artery (as the cook suggested). The 2 inch parasitic round worm (aka "nematode") was embedded in my cod that was part of the fish and chips, the most popular dish on the menu.
The waitress comped only my dish (not the bangers and mash that my friend ordered but couldn't finish).
Needless to say, I will not be returning to Redcoats. Cheers.
At first glance, this place looks like an oasis. Â Drinks until 2am and a nice new building inside. Â After spending a couple of hours there, it became apparent to me that this place wasn't what it seemed.
The staff and owners are really young. Â By young I mean 21 and 22 year old kids. Â The owner treats the bar like his own personal frat house, employing all of his friends as bartenders and bouncers. Â I would have no problem with that at all, but the staff is grossly unqualified to handle running a bar. Let's just say that the words "Customer Service" at Redcoats do not exist. Â The bouncers are overly aggressive, unprofessional, and rude. Â I actually witnessed a bouncer push a girl to the ground. Â I understand that patrons can get unruly, and a forceful ejection is sometimes needed, but this was a small girl that the bouncer led outside, and violently pushed to the ground.
Also while trying to enjoy New Years Eve at this place, the owner became more and more intoxicated, and started to try to flex his power around the bar, accusing people of breaking things and actually tried to start a fight with my friend who was casually observing the incident! Â The fact of the matter is that this place is being managed by a bunch of amateurs, and until the staff and owner show a hint of class, I will not be back.
After a day where I spent 6 hours in the car going to and from Grandma's house. I was dying to go for a little walk to stretch my legs. I had also been craving Shepard's pie and was thrilled to find this new establishment listed on yelp because they have it!
My husband is not a British food fan; he tolerates bangers and mash if I make it at home and thought bubble and squeak was a rock band. Luckily I was able to lure him here with 3 little words "blue cheese burger".
For a rainy gray weekend the place was running pretty full which is a good sign for such a new restaurant. We were seated immediately without a reservation another big plus.
A lot of people were watching the Giants and Patriots football game in the bar and while enjoying their meal. There are 3 large screen TVs strategically placed throughout the restaurant for maximum visibility and sports satisfaction.
The calamari appetizer had a crumb crust which was a little flirtatious compared to the battered calamari you would find at most restaurants. There was a good amount for 2 people and it wasn't too greasy. The cocktail sauce container was too small, and the waiter seemed to know that and asked if we wanted more. My husband and I would order it again it was pretty pleasant.
Because you can add blue cheese to any burger, my husband went with the turkey burger, which he said was good but could have been thicker. He did really enjoy having blue cheese on it though. The fries were also tasty, not quite steak fries but thick and golden just the same.
My Shepard's pie was a medium sized ramekin filled with ground beef, with a little onion in a mild brown sauce topped off with lots of thick mashed potato, slightly browned on top. It was pleasant, warm and filling but not greasy. Also it satisfied my craving. The beef portion was a bit simplistic, I wished for a little bit of burgundy in the sauce but I think this dish is supposed to be more of a comfort food item and it was very tasty. Next time I will order the lamb hot pot, which has red wine along with all those nice winter veggies.
I had coleslaw and fresh veggies as a side. The veggies were interesting, the were more like a veggie stir fry, thinly sliced long strips of onion, carrot, zucchini, red and green peppers. They weren't over done and still maintained a slight crispness that was refreshing. The coleslaw was lots of crunchy cabbage (green and red) and more vinegar then sweet, I don't like too sweet coleslaw but I thought this one could have used some more sauce.
Our waitress was a peach. She worked very hard, was friendly and on the ball, her name was Kathy. She refilled our drinks 3 times and whisked our finished appetizer plates away with aplomb. Also the runners brought out our main course quickly and also returned with ketchup efficiently as well.
I am giving this place 5 stars as the food was fresh, lovely and compelling pub fair. The service was nice, dinner set us back only $43 with tip and I know we will return.
Also LOVE that it is open till 2:00 AM on Saturdays!
My husband and I just had the pleasure of trying out this new restaurant. Pleasanton may appear to have a lot of restaurants, but there are actually only a select few worth a second visit. In one week, we went here twice, so I think that sums it up for my review! Â
The food is fantastic and even-better-than-pub food. The prices are amazing - very affordable! You can have appetizers, drinks, a meal, AND dessert (bread pudding is to DIE FOR!), and not worry about overdrawing on your debit card! The atmosphere is friendly and warm. We are going to enjoy bringing our friends to our new "hang out".
We tried the Bangers & Mash and the Lamb Hot Pot for dinner - fab, fab, fabulous. Again, the Bread Pudding with rum sauce is DI-VINE and should not be missed. Â Be sure to check out the upstairs "lounge" area - looks very swanky and I hope to try it out sometime. When the weather warms a bit, we'll for sure try out the patio seating. This kind of venue is long overdue for Pleasanton - we will be frequent patrons!
I was in the mood for something familiar tonight, fish and chips. Â Not wanting to visit one of my usual places, I decided to Yelp it and came across Redcoats. Â My husband and I had driven by this place while it was still under construction and were interested to try it out. Â
It was lively indeed for a new spot, but an affordable, comfortable pub joint is a hole that needs filling in downtown Pleasanton. Â The cream walls and deep chocolate trim including ceiling beams created a comfortable and cozy environment, especially on this cold night. The space was a little vacant and the noise from diners was a little deafening. Â No worries, it's actually nice to hear this much commotion downtown. Â
We were seated relatively quickly for how crowded it was. Â Had to remind the hostest to include our name on the list as other parties entered after us and were getting their name in before us. Â We ordered Black and Tans from the bar but were seated before we got them. Â The server went to get them for us and said they were changing out the tap. Â Then the bar tender came by and said they couldn't get the tap off the old keg. Â Humph. Â We got Stella and Boddinton's on tap, still delicious. Â
We both order the Fish and Chips. It's served just like I had it in London, a large beer battered piece of flaky tender fish and crispy chips on the side. Â I ordered a side of cole slaw and although it was good I am still trying to understand the general mark up on raw cabbage. Â I swear every place I've ordered coleslaw is screwing with me. Â We decided to order some Curry sauce on the side for the fries since the appetizer was intriguing. Â Not worth it!! Kind of pastey with a faint curry flavor, guess I was expecting something else. Â
Biggest complaint: Â I asked for malt vinegar and the server came back with packets of Heinz Malt vinegar. Â Huh? Â What? Â Baking Powder? Â I thought this was trying to be an authentic British pub. Â I've never even seen packets of malt vinegar. Â Hopefully this is just a new opening thing and they will up grade to some Three Monks Malt vinegar. Â
All in all the service and food were good. Â I want to come back and try the Lamb Hot-Pot and possibly the Shepard's Pie. Â It looks like they have some good deals on certain week nights, like Cod and Chips for $7.00 on Mondays. Â Can't beat that.

Update 1/14/2008: I'm a little peeved my friends were turned away by angry, rude bouncers at 9pm on a Friday night when they wanted dinner. Â First off, where do you get off being rude to people who want to patronize your establishement? Â And secondly, 9pm seems a little early to stop serving dinner on a weekend night to me. Â Maybe I am alone in this thought.
