Excellent service and cute ambiance. Went here for a special date night and we were not disappointed. We shared the beef short rib and scallop over polenta (favorite thing we had), and then the pan-fried chicken and the hangar steak. All were solid but the appetizer was the most flavorful and interesting. Wine selection is solid and reasonably priced. They also do a tasting menu for $50/person which is very good in comparison to other SF restos. The cheesecake for dessert was unfortunately not impressive. I would come back but I'm not rushing back.
Review Source:I have walked by here about 8-9 years ago (when I was in high school), curious about what this place was all about. At that time, I was young and inexperienced... didn't know much about Yelp or good food, but definitely thought this was a fancy place to go to. It had dim lighting with lots of small tables, making it look like a perfect place for a quiet evening in a neighborhood spot. Ahh... What a wonderful night that would have been. But somehow I had forgotten about this place until last week when I took my good friend here for her birthday. I can honestly say we had a wonderful time here, enjoying some wine and catching up.
The service here was amazing. The two servers that were there were very attentive, friendly, and just plain wonderful. When I told the waitress that we were celebrating my friend's birthday, she brought her a little dessert with a candle on it, on the house! I could appreciate this place a lot for its service and ambience.
My friend and I each had a glass of wine although I cannot remember what they were anymore. I just know I got a glass of red wine and my friend had a white wine. No complaints about them. I think next time that I come, I'll definitely be choosing a bottle of wine from their extensive wine list and really just enjoy my wine.
As for the food, I liked my linguini with clams. I couldn't finish it but it was good. I love my pasta :) My friend's salmon was pretty good but slightly dry.
Regardless, this really is a great place for a date and so I will be taking my boyfriend here soon! Until next time, The Richmond......
4.5 stars for the food, 3.5 stars for the space.
My girlfriend and her family generously took me here for belated birthday dinner. Despite for years having scoured the Richmond for food of all kinds, I'd never heard of this place. How could a restaurant with 4.5 Yelp stars and an affordable tasting menu have flown under the radar?
Turns out it's for both good and not-so-good reasons that "The Richmond" isn't as hyped as other comparable restaurants.
The good is that the food is good. We ordered tasting menus all around, which consisted of the following courses:
1. Roasted beet and carrot salad with goat cheese pastry
2. Heirloom tomato salad with corn salsa
3. Seared scallop over something
4. Oxtail and oyster mushrooms over polenta
5. Some dessert I can't remember
The goat cheese pastry, heirloom tomatoes, and oxtail were especially good. Plus, each individual tasting menu item can be ordered individually a la carte, which is a nice option.
We also ordered a Shake N' Bake chicken entree which was deceptively great.
The bad is that, for a "nice" restaurant, the setting is kind of a mess. The restaurant is dark inside and small yet somehow not especially intimate. Our hostess was very kind but also dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, in contrast to the wait staff who wore black uniforms. Also, the restroom is under significant renovation, which I suppose isn't a flaw per se but it's more than a little jarring to walk behind the curtain, open the restroom door, and see concrete and no ceiling and a bunch of paper signs slapped onto the walls.
So, no plans to return anytime soon, but might be worth keeping an eye on any changes to the restaurant that might make it more of a fine dining destination.
I have probably driven by this place a dozen times and never noticed it.  A gem in the neighborhood.  They make their own herb butter which they serve with the bread - delicious. A nice surprise was the amuse bouche they started us off with (melon puree with diced watermelon and  basil).  Ordered the heirloom salad with avocado and corn as a starter.  The tomatoes were perfect (not meal-y) and the corn and avocado were perfect compliments. For a main course, I ordered the hanger steak with sautéed chard and potatoes. Good portions, chard was cooked perfect and was flavorful.  Steak was a little too salty for my taste but other than that good.
Review Source:Excellent food with just the right size portions. Â The server was knowledgeable and attentive, but the kitchen was SLOW to get the food out. Â It is hard to understand that dinner took 2.5 hours on a Tues night when they were only a few other tables occupied.
The Richmond is in a residential area and it is street parking so take a cab or public transit. Â We drove around for about 15 minutes at 7:30 PM and almost gave up before finding a place to park. Â
We will certainly go back.
The Richmond has the great service when you're wanting to reserve for a big party. My friends and I was organizing a graduation dinner a few months back and we called a few DAYS earlier. They were able to accommodate all 30 of us and create a prefixe for us!
I was so astounded  by their readiness to create dinner and accommodate space in their dainty restaurant. They have great food in one of my favorite areas in sf. The place is so cozy and its great for dates. I highly recommend this restaurant!
We were looking for a place with sustainable food that would be delicious, and we found just that at The Richmond. The amuse bouche was a delicious cantaloupe soup. The appetizers were great with the butternut squash soup being the best I have ever had. Â The braised short rib was also particularly great.
The service was wonderful and the atmosphere delightful and cozy. the only reason this place did not get five stars was that the main course was not quite as good as the appetizers. My mother didn't finish the salmon and said it was just not flavorful.
Still, when we come back to San Francisco this place will definitely be one to remember.
Went here on a Saturday night with a large group to celebrate a friend's birthday. Everything I tried was good. The beet salad was especially delicious. For the main course I had a braised duck leg-yummy!
I tried several other things that my friends ordered including the salmon, the hangar steak and the linguine with clams-all very good.
The restaurant is small but it wasn't crowded--I think this has to do with the fact that it's a bit off of the beaten path. Food gets an A. Price was ok. I would say the average cost of the entree was $20. They did have a great sounding tasting menu for 50-60.
For a quiet, delicious dinner I recommend this place.
What a lovely neighborhood gem - refined yet unpretentious, comfortable, delicious with unbeatable value.
I've heard of this place for a while now, and have always been curious to try because of the great reviews. So I was psyched when my fiance took me here for my birthday dinner.
The place didn't look much from the outside, but the wait staff made us feel welcome right as we stepped in. We were seated in a cozy little corner by the street-facing window, and made us feel very private.
Their menu isn't huge, and changes periodically. There is a prix fixe 5-course tasting menu for $49.95 a person (excl. drinks) but we opted to go a la carte since our tummies have shrunken from our recent healthier diets (yay).
Everything brought to our table was delicious! The bread & butter trio consisting of parsley chive butter, kalamatta olive butter, and sweet cream butter was a nice treat. I was good and indulged in only 2 pieces of bread; but I smothered the parsley chive butter ALL over my bread. So tasty! The palette cleanser of citrusy amuse bouche was interesting and refreshing.
For appetizer we ordered the Roasted Beets & Cardamom Carrot Salad and Whisky Braised Oxtail with a Maine Diver Scallop. The beets salad was incredibly delicious, as was the braised oxtail and the scallop. The oxtail was full of flavor and of perfect texture, and the scallop was excellent and fresh. The creamy polenta upon which the oxtail and scallop sat tasted great with the oxtail sauce. Yummy!
We got the Braised duck leg, mushroom sauce and mashed potatoes and Hanger steak for our mains. My duck leg was tender and slide off the bones! The flavor was perfect, just enough duck and not overboard. I tried the hanger steak as well and it was meaty and satisfying. The portions were very generous and with all the apps, I only finished half of my entree! Finished off the memorable meal with a coffee semifreddo on the house. The almond brittle was a real wow and the crunch was tremendous. Â
I had a perfect night with my amazing fiance. I'd love to go back and try their other rotating dishes - maybe a seafood item or even the burger!
This place was awesome. Went there with a friend, we enjoyed 3 glasses of wine, two starters, two entrees, and a dessert for about $100! The service was impeccable, ambiance fantastic, and food perfect. They don't accept American Express (groan) but lets be honest, I can't deny them stars for that. It is one of those places that has a small menu due to the fact that instead of spreading talent/value/taste widely among multiple items and thus diluting it, the few items they have all are done to perfection. Go here for a quiet intimate dinner, you will NOT be disappointed!
Review Source:Took my boyfriend here for his birthday after reading such great yelp reviews about this restaurant and The Richmond definitely lived up to my expectations. Great food, service, and ambiance. We came in on a Tuesday night around 8:30 and since we came a little late and they close at 9:30, our waiter was super nice and made sure to not let us feel rushed to leave. I will surely be back here!
Review Source:Such a cozy place. You need to make reservation to ensure a bookng but the food is great. Â My boyfriend has ths fish, I had lamb, we shared an scallop app, and brownie dessert which was all fantastic. Â The server was great with the reccomendation didn't reccomend the most expensive thing on the menue but actually what she liked. Â Great value for the price. I wouldn't go back all the time as the menu is limited but great for a special meal.
Review Source:The quality and sheer tastiness of the food gets a full five stars. Â As the closest "nice" restaurant to my house, I've had several occasions to bring visitors here. Â It's always good and they're always glad we went. Â The service is also attentive without being overbearing. Â Considering how small an area they have to work with, there is a surprising amount of privacy - some smart interior decorators put a lot of thought into the layout. Â
The only drawbacks I can see: not a full bar (I can't drink wine, so it's always water for me here); the menu is limited so I've now had everything on it and sometimes twice; and it's so popular reservations are a must (probably not a drawback for the restaurant, but don't get discouraged if you have to make a few attempts).
My friends are I were sorely disappointed by our dining experience at The Richmond last night. Â The food was decent, but the service is desperately in need of improvement. Â It's understandable that requests cannot always be accommodated (I asked to have the meat left off of a short ribs-scallops combo) and the server said the kitchen wouldn't do it. Â That's fine. Â But usually there is some sort of apology and/or explanation but neither was offered. Â We got the same reaction when my friend asked if they had a black napkin because the white one was leaving a lot of lint on her black pants. Â It's ok to not have black napkins but a "sorry" would be nice. Â
The food (beet salad, butternut squash soup, crab cakes, salmon, short rib and scallops, chocolate peanut butter torte) was all fine but nothing special. Â Wine was pretty good and very reasonably-priced.
So yummy! We did the tasting menu and enjoyed every bite. Not 5 stars in my book just because we heard a server talking rudely about a customer and it was very unprofessional; you expect optimal service for a restaurant at this price level. Still, I would go back because our server was great.
Review Source:Came here in April for my birthday dinner and I couldn't have asked for anything better. Sometimes, with fine dining, I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed with the portion sizes but you don't have to worry about that at "The Richmond". Both of our entrees (the duck leg and the skirt steak), were amazing and our server recommended a great bottle of wine that complimented our entrees perfectly. The little restaurant is quaint and tastefully decorated and the service was top notch. We'll definitely be back.
Review Source:Simply unbeatable value with the tasting menu! My hubby had the wine pairing too but it was just ok. The food was far better though. Every dish that we had was really good, and at the end of the evening we were completely stuffed. That's what five courses with two amuse bouche will do to ya.
Overall, a great place for a date night.
Made a super late reservation to celebrate a landmark occasion here last Saturday night. Â I called around 3pm that day and was psyched to hear they had one rezzie left that evening for 9:30. Â Perfect for us! Â I'd heard this place was exquisite from various people who had eaten here years ago, so I was pretty excited to finally try it out. Â Plus, I love supporting my neighborhood restaurants.
We had a lovely table near the door, but thoughtfully arranged velvet curtains protected us from any door drafts. Â We ordered a few rounds of appetizers (crab cakes, sweetbreads and the potato leek soup) and some wine. Â All was well. Â My tummy was ready for this. So ready!
The food arrived in a very timely manner, but really lacked anything special. Â The sweetbreads were difficult to taste under all the pepper (way too much pepper) and coating, and they weren't very crispy as their description stated. Â I love sweetbreads (who doesn't love the tender thymus?!), but these were quite....meh. Â The crab cakes were ok, as was the soup, but again nothing really stood out in the dishes that made them special or memorable. They just tasted like dishes I could have had at any restaurant. Â And I'm not sure what all the hype is with the bread and spreads. It was just....bread. Maybe I've become a bread snob since I rarely eat bread anymore. Â Just tasted like average bread.
So I was hoping for bigger things with our entrees. Â I had the burger, bf had the salmon. Â Maybe this is my fault for ordering a burger at a nice restaurant, I dunno. Â When I ordered it, I wasn't asked how I wanted it prepared. Â I let that slide since I trust a good restaurant to know how to prepare it. Â But when it came out, the middle of my patty was SUPER raw. Â Like, sticky-moist-ground-beef-fresh-from-the-butcher-Âpaper raw. Â I kept double checking it as I picked at it with my fork, thinking maybe the lighting was making it look redder and more raw than it actually was. Â Our server saw my distress and came over to ask if everything was to our liking. Â I pointed out my raw burger and she said "Yeah, our burgers are cooked to medium rare." Â This looked a little more raw than medium rare, and maybe some people like challenging their intestinal fortitude with burgers this rare, but after multiple bouts with e.coli poisoning in my lifetime, I don't roll the dice on ground beef and prefer it mostly cooked. Â So I asked if she could throw it back on the grill for a medium-well finish, which she happily did. Â But when my burger returned for round two, I picked it apart again and found it just as raw as round one! Surely the lighting was playing tricks on me (you know how restaurants dim the lights and cast a red tint to it to make everything more appetizing? I thought that was happening here). Â My bf took out his iphone and we hit the flashlight app to really get a good look. Â But seriously, the meat still looked so raw that I just wanted to be done with it. Â I asked the server to just box it up (at this point, I'd rather just cook it at home myself).
After returning home, I opened the box up under our revealing white kitchen lights to make sure I wasn't overreacting. Â Sure enough, I wasn't. RAW. REALLY raw.
Except for the burger incident, the food wasn't bad (I would have given it  three stars were it not for the raw patty).  It was just really underwhelming for "finer dining."  Maybe we came on an off-night or something. But I'm not inclined to return since there are tons of wonderful options in the area. .

This is fine dinning done with passion, and done right! If you're looking for something French, The Richmond is the place to go. Though not really French cuisine (more on the fusion side), the food is superb and well prepared.
6PM Reservation: an associate had called me 2 hours before service regarding our reservation, and he was genuine over the phone - which is always great to hear.
We were promptly seated on the western side (The Richmond occupies two store/spaces). The ambiance is great, with low lighting, velvet red/blackish drapes, and we sat near a beautiful painting (which I uploaded to YELP) with extruding molded tree branches.
Originally we went in wanting a large meal, but because my friends aunt fed her snacks prior to meeting up (Chinese families never know when to stop feeding their guest), so we opted to each order a main course, and an appetizer to share (we both love to eat, and so this was an experience).
*A bowl of citrus juices and carrot juice/slivers were served as a palette cleanser. It almost resembled a gazpacho, and I wanted more!
1. Crab Cake (portion was on the bigger side, but there was only one [I would have liked a second], super fresh crabs with celery and citrus of lemon]. I loved my crab cake without anything on it / my friend drizzled some lemon juice for added moisture.
2. Braised Brisket in red wine sauce, diver scallop, and a bed of polenta (superbly delicious, melts in your mouth, simply falls off, scallop cooked perfectly, and polenta was an excellent pairing). I almost wished that this be a meal itself.
3. We both ordered: Duck Leg in red wine sauce, medley of vegetables and mashed potatoes (wow, the duck leg fell off the bone without any force from my fork, and I loved the sauce on the mashed potatoes just as I do with turkey and gravy). My friend and I sat there with moments of silence because we were deeply intertwined with our food.
A dessert menu was brought to our attention after the clearing of plates. On YELP (unfortunately, an out dated menu) listed Panacotta as a dessert option, of which we both wanted. All of the other dessert seemed delicious, but we really wanted Panacotta, and so left dessert out for the night.
Fine dining is a must, and The Richmond lives up to its praise. What's next on my list, CHAPEAU!
I recently came to the Richmond with my family to celebrate my sister and my birthday. I have to say that it was quite a pleasant experience. It was located in a cute little restaurant with a nice atmosphere.
We decided against the tasting menu and chose to order individual items instead. We started with the crab cakes and braised oxtail with scallops. We thought that they were excellent, but the portion size was rather small. The complimentary bread is fantastic here though, and it comes with a few nice spreads including an olive spread, butter, and a pesto spread.
For our main course, we shared several entrees:
Crispy Skin Pan Fried Chicken: The chicken was quite tender and the crispy skin was very flavorful. This dish was very delicious, definitely one of the better chicken dishes that I've had.
Wild Pacific Salmon: The salmon was quite moist and cooked very well. I thought that it could use more seasoning though, as there wasn't that much flavor.
Linguini and Clams: This is probably one of the best linguini and clams I've ever had. The flavor of the sauce on the linguini complemented the noodles well. Also, the noodles were cooked to a perfect tenderness.
Hanger Steak: This steak was rather bland and tough. I would recommend paying the extra $5 for the NY Steak, which is substantially more tender. I would recommend going for the steak cooked medium, or more undercooked if you're a fan of that.
We ended our meal with the Warm Chocolate and Peanut Butter Torte. It was quite delicious as well! Definitely worth the wait if you're a peanut butter fan, there's a little bit of peanut butter in the center. It's rather dense and heavy for a concluding dessert, but had a pleasant sweetness to it.
Overall, the food was quite good and reasonably priced. In addition, the service was excellent as well. It's a cute shop that I would definitely consider revisiting. Sadly they don't seem to have any specials for birthdays, which would have been nice.
Wonderful place. We walked in as a party of 9 with no reservation (every restaurant's worst nightmare), and they very graciously put together a table and took very good care of us. The chef came out and offered to create a special tasting menu for us, and every bite was delicious. The wine selection was very good, and reasonably-priced. Great low-key restaurant that clearly takes pride in what they do. Will definitely return.

Not sure why this place isnt flooding with business because its perfect for an intimate date or if you want to catch up with friends without having to shout over your table, WITH delicious food and reasonable prices. Also, the service is impeccable. In short, its a neighborhood gem.
Both times I have gotten the Pancetta Crepe de Brick and Crispy Skin Pan Fried Chicken which were both finger lickin good but what really sealed the deal was the CHEESECAKE - don't even question it, just do it.
I swear, you'll thank me.
My date and I left here happy and full. Â They had a very intimate/romantic vibe which could be more attributed to it being a weeknight but I'd like to check it out on a weekend too to make sure. Â The staff was extremely helpful with questions we had regarding both their food and their wine selection. Â
The meal itself was superb. Everything was fresh and perfectly cooked for both of our meals. Â Great tastes complimented each returning bite. Â Will definitely be back! Â
Word of warning: parking can be a pain in this area, so if you're driving, allow an extra 15 minutes.
Last minute after Valentine's day dinner with the boyfriend at 5:30pm. Â
Complimentary bread with 3 butters (sea salt, olive, herb)- Â the herb was the best one.
Amuse Bouche- potato chip with some kind of cream. Â I'm always ready to eat =/; Next time, I'll put my fork down, close my mouth, and listen to our server present our dish.
Oxtail with Scallop- Â The perfect combination. Â It's hard not to put the whole thing in your mouth at a semi fancy restaurant.
Crispy Skin Pan Fried Chicken- Â So tender, so crispy! Â I'm surprised I didn't see this item on Yelp reviews. Â
I wanted the Pork with Meatballs but since it's a seasonal item, I settled for the Burger- Â As simple as it looked, the flavors spoke for itself. Â The bread was buttered and toasted. Â The 1/2 patty was juicy. Â The veggies fresh. Â And the fries were nicely seasoned.
Warm Chocolate and Peanut Butter Torte- You really can't go wrong with molten cake. Â It was chocolatey. Â I only had one bite but it sure was delicious.
Coffee Semifreddo- Â Coffee ice cream with coffee granite and bits of brittle. Â Skip this and get another chocolate cake.
This place is small, service was great, and food was good. Â Not to mention, an inexpensive meal. Â I'd come back once the pork returns to the menu.
A real gem that you wouldn't expect out of the residential Richmond district. A Â very cute and dainty-like place to come for dinner.
I brought my mom and sister here for a celebration and we all had the 5-course menu. Â I decided to take it up a notch and got my course menu with wine pairing. Â Our waiter was very generous with the wine and all of the dishes were delicious. Â The three in-house made butter that came with the bread was pretty awesome. Â It was 5 full course menus with pallet cleansers in between two. Â The staff was very attentive and gave us an explanation on every course that came out. Â
What I actually liked most was that the owner/chef actually came out to greet us and made sure everything was A-okay and perfect. Â This is quite admirable because it really shows that the chef cares about his customers. Â Soo...WOW! Â Great Service. Â Great Food. Â A real Catch and wonderful experience.
I can't wait to come again!
Wow. Â This unassuming establishment has no bells and whistles, just some unique art and low lights for a quiet sophistication, a great wait staff, and consistently excellent fare. And, everyone's right about the wine list ... many great bottles for a bargain! Â
This place is small and it feels intimate, not cramped. Â I've seen eight lavishly-dressed adults seated comfortably not far from a table of four energetic kids and 3 parents, all enjoying themselves with my friend and I just six feet away ... the acoustics are surprisingly accommodating. Â
We've eaten here five times and it is a pleasure to be treated to the free, surprise appetizer; good bread with three varieties of butter; thoughtful, palate-awakening first and main courses that are downright generous in proportion considering that one may easily pay double for half that gorgeous amount at more upscale addresses.
I selfishly hope The Richmond will not move to a larger, high-end space with which this dining experience could deservedly pair. I love it that it is truly a "neighborhood gem", rather undiscovered and low-key. Â The Richmond is a worthwhile exercise--from the spare decore, to the kitchen, to the billet (tab)--that should please everyone.
Been here a few times and it's always a wonderful meal with attentive, courteous service. We dined here the other evening and decided on the tasting menu - which, by the way, is the best way to go! The tasting menu gives you the most bang for your buck and you enjoy all the kitchen has to offer.
The oxtail served with scallop was delicious and so was the rib-eye steak served with a potato hash. Every course of the menu was good and the timing of the service was spot-on.
The Richmond is a great place serving top-notch food that won't break the bank. Good value for the money and I look forward to our next meal there.
Even when gas prices are up or the economy is bad, you have to take sometime to spoil yourself was some fine wine and dining. It was an honor to get to eat at this local treasure in San Francisco for my boyfriend's birthday. We both hadn't eaten this fancy in awhile and decided to go all out - this place was never a disappointment.
Brush up on your table manners before you get here so you don't look silly when they change your forks, etc. ;) Â It is definitely a complete dining experience - especially if you order their tasting menu. My boyfriend and I opted for the 5 course tasting menu including wine pairing - so worth it!
To start off as a 'palate cleanser' we were given melon and watermelon. Their bread comes with three choices of butter - sea salt, olive and herb (the herb/green butter was my favorite!). The bread comes out fresh but gets a little hard - but don't feel like you have to fill up because a number of plates are to come...
Next we were given a soup that was a mix of squash and topped with some roasted pumpkin seeds and fresh cream - tiny cup of delicious.
To start off the tasting menu was the beet and carrot salad topped with a phyllo pastry stuffed with cheese - thought I am NOT a huge fan of beets, this was very pleasant and offered very different flavors at one time. The Chardonnay to pair was light and good even by itself. Their heirloom tomato salad had some of the BEST corn I have ever tasted (which sounds weird but you just had to try it) - Pinot Gris was not my favorite but went well with the dish.
The Oxtail was really to die for and their polenta was cooked to perfection. It is served with a beautiful Pinot Noir (my FAVORITE wine of the night). By the Oxtail I was almost full already but truly enjoyed the petite Lamb with potato, and I ALWAYS enjoy a good Cab ;)
By the time dessert came I was already stuffed, but the coffee semifreddo was unlike  anything I have eaten before. It is literally served with some flavored ice but the cream and the almond brittle plus ice cream blend together
I could go on and on but a couple things I want to hit on:
1. Service is superb and you see the dedication of the owner as he visits your table.
2. The wine pairing is WORTH it. They claim to give 3oz per taste however we were topped off a couple times - it is definitely a culinary experience that you have to experience sometime in your life.
3. Tiny place with so much personality and class. Great for special occassions where you want to treat yourself to something nice! (Kind of a 'save up for date night' kind of place)
:) Worth the splurge. Foodie senses... SATISFIED.
This is one of the best restaurants I have eaten at in San Francisco. I mean, every single thing we were served was absolutely amazing. I wish I had taken photos so I could share them with you.
So, we got a surprise stater of watermelon and melon that was yummy, with some bread and delicious different butters. Then, the waiter came up and apologized for our food taking so long, which I didn't even notice because my water glass was NEVER empty, which I LOVE, and then gave us another yummy free starter. Literally, one of the yummiest starter salads I have ever had, with thick sliced tomatoes lightly marinated in balsamic, with fresh corn and avocado. It was amazing.
Then more yummy starters (harvest salad and veal sweetbread, the only ONLY thing I slightly didn't like was the richness of the veal, but I mean, it is veal) and then our main dishes, I got the steak and bf got the duck leg. Seriously, so good. And only $25, which for a steak is a really good price.
So, two starters, two entrees = $70. Which is awesome.
A late review but a memorable experience here nonetheless. I made a visit the on the eve of the foie gras ban. Besides that exquisite dish, I tried:
- Bread & Butters: a butter flavor for everyone.
- Cheeseburger & Fries: Juicy and one of the meatiest burgers I've ever had.
- Pork Tenderloin & Swedish Meatballs: A very classy, but tasty and homestyle kind of dish.
It is a bit too quiet for me at the restaurant but service was good. Overall, I love that the prices here are affordable for a nice sit-down quality meal.
Au revoir foie gras.
These days in the dynamic SF food scene where everyone is trying to produce the next food trend, a classic menu may induce a slew of yawns and frankly, suspicion. Are you too lazy to innovate? Not creative enough to keep up?
This is why when I saw the Richmond's menu which consist of a small list of classic dishes like burger and fries, steak or salmon, I was highly suspect of the rave reviews on yelp. Not to mention, the name "the Richmond," is so nondescript that it makes you wonder if the restaurant had any imaginations at all. But this place turns out to be a very pleasant surprise, because it does the classic dishes so well.
As we have learned form Yelp, they provide 3 types of butter for the bread. I liked the olive and chive ones, but honestly the traditional one with sea salt was my favorite. It just tasted more, buttery.
My friend loved her foie gras and our crab cakes were good. It's interesting that the cakes were perched on top of what tasted like a thin layer of clam chowder. The tangy greens on top added a nice layer of acidity to the dish. Â The restaurant was kind enough to split the dish into two plates of crab cakes that are easier for sharing.
I ordered sea bass as my entree and it looks like a hefty half-pounder. The fish was moist and the snow peas and carrots underneath were tasty. Â I especially liked the green and yellow purees that had a nice subtle flavor that went well with the delicate fish.
Even though we were full, we shared the chocolate cake and pan perdu for dessert. Can't go wrong with chocolate cake and buttery toast! Again, very classic but well done.
It's not a cheap place and the ambiance isn't trendy or loud. It's quiet enough to bring your parents but also cute enough for a date.
Found you!  A great neighborhood restaurant in the same vein as other great neighborhood gems in the city.  For the longest time, I could not  remember the name of this restaurant. Â
I was on a trip in San Francisco with Jen H. and some of her friends. Â The service of this place was extremely friendly and our waiter definitely made us felt at ease that we didn't even mind that he forgot one of our soups. Â (I think the deliciousness of all of our other appetizers made up for it.)
There are some really great dishes that I would be willing to eat again and again. Some of the great dishes I had here was definitely the Heirloom Tomato Salad (great balance of sweet, salty, oily, and bitter). Â The awesome foie gras they serve is also in a lobe and not a pate. Â Great flavors all around. Â The huge pork chop is extremely moist and definitely one of the highlights of the meal. Â They also serve a really good spread of different butters. Â My favorite one is the olive butter. Â So good!
The chef came out to greet us afterward, which was a nice touch.
