Dizzz-aaammmmmm. This place may be the greatest place that I've been that's completely underrated. Sorry Yelp, but this time I didn't trust the reviews! Don't really understand some of the negative reviews (I didn't have the same experience) other than the A/C thing. Yeah, that would frustrate the hell outta me if it was the middle of the summer.

We originally tried Ricobenes because the breaded steak is on Chicago's Top 50 Sandwich list as decided by Chicago Magazine. We've been meaning to get there for ages. We were on our way to Darien this past weekend for a wedding. Weddings aren't always known for their amazing food, so we figured we'd stop and eat at least a little something in case the food was miserable. (The review of the wedding venue will be forthcoming, too.)

We got the original breaded steak sandwich combo that came with a soda and fries. It cost about $9. It was fricking yummy and I can see why it's on a great sandwich list. In fact, it's going on MY best of Yelp list. They give you an option of adding cheese or peppers. We added cheese, but I don't think the cheese really added much and next time I'd just get it plain--because even plain, it's not plain at all with all of it's saucy goodness. I must have looked so funny trying to pick up the messiest sandwich I've ever consumed in a cocktail dress. Proud to say though, not one single spill on my clothes! Yummo! The fries were also really good, even though I'm not usually a big fry person. I dipped them in the marinara sauce from the sandwich and made some disturbing mmmmm noises the whole time.

There was only one guy working (possibly the owner or manager??) so it was about 10-15 minutes for us to get our food. We weren't in a hurry so didn't mind waiting and freshly made food is ALWAYS worth waiting for. The service was great and I know that this'll be my newest sandwich spot.

Not a good experience. There was only one man (owner?) working and he was the cashier & cook. He took about 5 orders from people in line and then about every 10 minutes, emerged from the kitchen with someone's food. We were told that the food would take 15 minutes but it took over 30 min. for two sandwiches with fries.

Items like cheese & sweet peppers were offered as if they came on the sandwich, but then showed up on the bill as extra charges of $ .99 and $ .49.

The food was greasy but decent but we had to rush eating it to make up for the wait .

Really, I wish i could give this place less than a star. Where to begin? Let's start with the food. I've eaten at the Ricobene's on 26th for 25 years. This place is nowhere close. The eggplant parmesan sandwich I got was obviously not fresh or warm when I got it home 2 blocks away. The slice of cheese pizza was... gray. Yeah, the pizza had to have been sitting all day to turn that color and be that hard. How do you even serve something like that to another human being?

Thinking this was a fluke I've been back a couple more times over the past few years and nothing has improved. In fact I'm amazed it still open. The cheap owner never turn on the lights, heat, or ac. You'd swear the place was condemned if you drove by the place. I should know better - if the owner is too cheap to keep his customers comfortable, why would I trust him to make sure his food is fresh? I guess I'll be making the long drive to the Ricobene's on 26th street from now on when I have a craving. That's just too bad.

I grew up eating at Ricobenes on 26th St in Chicago. Back then it was a standing room only with a counter. No place to sit. This Ricobenes is no bigger than the original, but has some tables and seating.

The food here is just as good as 26th St. Their breaded steak sandwich is good as ever, and the fresh cut fries you can not go wrong with. And as a treat the homemade Italian Ice with chunks of lemon with the skin here and there is my favorite.

Not good. Stuffed in a back corner of a strip mall. This one is a disappointment. The breaded steak is fine, the rib tips and pizza are not. No music, way too quiet inside. Pasta is a disappointment. I ordered ravioli, the special, and it was a mess. Simply tossed in a to go box with a little sauce, it had no appeal whatsoever. I ordered half meat half cheese, and there was only one meat ravioli in the entire serving.  Never again!

Went back again today with co-workers, I must like to torture myself because it was 90 degrees outside and guess who had fans blowing inside the restaurant with NO A.C. ON?? You got it! It's a fact, this cheap franchise owner believes in NO HEAT IN THE WINTER AND NO A.C. in the Summer - what a cheap prick!

I certainly will NEVER go back there again - and the A' holes Spinich Pizza was not bad - what a dick to not have A.C. in a sit down restaurant!! And if it's because business is slow and things are tight, here's a thought, MAYBE MORE PEOPLE WOULD EAT THERE IF IT WASN'T 90 DEGREES INSIDE IN THE SUMMER OR 90 BELOW DURING THE WINTER!! DUHHH!

This place is really good! Also its always empty so you'll find a seat and no line, which is always a nice plus. I love eating here for lunch, they have a breaded steak sandwich which is my personal favorite! If you are looking to be a little healthy you can get the eggplant parmigiana sandwich which is also very very delicious. Their pastas are well done, and they do a great job for carry out, so if you are running late from work one night, stop by here grab some sandwiches or some pasta to go and your family and friends will be extremely pleased!
