Stopped in to grab a bite last night .. Their food was okay. I wasn't sure what to order .. I wanted something more authentic but found myself sticking to a Gyro.. My other half ordered a vegetarian Mousaka. I nibbled at her dish and it was really yummy!  My gyro was so-so.. The meat was a bit  dry.  What did make up for my dish was the nice server. Older gentleman who gave us friendly pats on the shoulder and checking in to see how our food was.His sense of concern was cute!!. After our flaming Saganaki ,he comes back and asked my GF is she's hungry?.. well duh!.. the way he said it was adorable!. It felt like we were at a relatives house!. Feeling full, I set my dish aside and he says in his accent " No more? " I shake my head and smile, then he says " you take a few bites, eat a little more".. We chuckeld ,and well, did what I was told..lol He seemd pleased that we ate.  Oh and we received a way better "OPA" than the table next to us when the Saganaki came out..I like that there was free parking with valet right across the street. (especially in yesterday's crummy weather) ..  Fun experience! service was great!

I thought their food was just okay and overpriced.
For greek town their food should taste more authentic, rustic, and flavorful.
Our service was fine but nothing special about it.
We ordered the house wine and it was not bad but again we though it was overpriced.
Our bill for 3 people ended up being close to 100 dollars with one bottle of wine and 3 entrees.
They do have free parking which is awesome in that area but my recommendation is greek islands if you're in greek town.

The best, most authentic Greek food! Old school family feel. Very reasonable and you get tons of food! Must go on a Thursday or Sunday for the braised lamb with avogolemeno and horta (egg lemon sauce and dandelion greens) but everything, especially the lamb, is outstanding! Service is always great.

Moved to Ft. Myers in 2004. Most of all, we miss Roditys. Also George at parking lot, who always watched Bella and Bambi, our 2 Maltese.
Looking forward to our next visit there.

I was here a few weeks ago. I am not sure why I had the chicken kabob style dish but I did...it was not the best.

They say you should come for the lamb...One day when I muster enough courage to go in here again I will try the lamb

    * Watch out for old waiter to pad your bill for a few extra bucks.

My husband and I have been dining at Roditys since the first days of our relationship nearly six years ago. If you are comparing it to other Greek town restaurants, you won't be impressed by the ambiance. This weighs little with us when you talk food and experience. The staff is friendly, unintrusive and works quickly. It is great for large groups (quiet, not crowded) and we rarely plan ahead or make reservations. The braised lamb and eggplant is amazing and the baclava is the perfect end...not to mention the unique Roditys red wine that will leave you feeling warm and happy.

Back in the area and had to make a trio to Roditys for another great meal. By far the best Greek food and the best service you can find. Have been eating at Roditys for 30 years, and always has been great.
Thank you Jimmy for another great night. See you next time I am in town

I went in, got seated promptly. I am new to greek food and the food was amazing! I loved it. Great greek atmosphere. Only reason I give it a three is because the waiter was not friendly at all. Was a "just here to take your order" guy. I wish the service went above what I expected.

This is the best place in Greektown. For starters, I'm pretty new to yelp, but don't let that detract you from my review. We live a few blocks away and have tried every place in the neighborhood. Roditys is the place we come back to time and time again. From the moment you walk in the door to the time you leave you feel like family.  The food is exceptional, I'm married to a Greek and have tasted my fair share of food and there is nothing on the menu that has let me down.
There maybe other places that have patios, roofs , etc., but that is just a mask for the non-predicable food... Roditys is the real deal.

I'm no regular to Roditys but I do believe they deserve some kudos!

A buddy of mine and I were in Chicago for the week to do some academic work. My friend, being Greek, insisted that we make our way to Greek town. Oh, but where to go? He speaks with the person who hands us the keys to our rental car: "Dude," the young man says to us (who says "Dude" anymore?) "You have got to go to Roditys for some killer eats!" We throw the address in the GPS and away we go!

First score of the day is that Roditys has free parking! That's a major plus considering there is plenty of parking in the area that is not free!

Once inside we ate like pigs! We started with the sweetbreads and then the appetizer plate (The Roditys Platter) and house wine (We probably should have stopped right there, although I was amused by the flaming Saganaki Cheese). We moved on to the Moussaka with meat, which was wonderful! And, we concluded with Sokolatina. Mercy, me, one of the better meals I had in Chicago!

armed with a groupon, we went to Rodity's for a weeknight dinner

we shared the grilled octopus for appetizer, i had the sweetbreads and my fiance had bbq lamb ribs for entrees

both service and food quality were tired and uninspiring

there did seem to be a lot of regulars so i think there are quite some folks who feel sentimental about the place but for what we received, we won't be back

My Greek friend will be really upset when she hears I tried another restaurant in Greektown besides Athena (the only one she swears by), but maybe the fact that's it's only 2 stars will make her feel better (Athena reigns supreme).

We had dinner here last night - surprising empty for a Thursday at 9pm in Greektown.  Our waiter was nice enough but not very engaging - more like, "I hate being here but I'm not going to take it out on the patrons" kind of attitude.

We started with the saganaki and got a very sorry "opa!" from our not-there waiter. No problems there, I can understand how that gets old.  Saganaki was good and a good portion as well.

I had the combination plate and my date had the gyros and spanikopita.  Combination plate had a good variety of Greek favorites, although none really stood out at me as being better than any other Greek restaurant in Greektown.  If anything, the food was a bit dull and forgettable.  I tried the gryos, which were burnt and not at all tasty, and the spanikopita, which was overpoweringly spinach-y (I get that it's a spinach-based dish, but I've had enough spanikopita to know that there's a more tasty way to do it).

Overall, I've tried it once, and we can cross it off our list of eating our way through Greektown.  Wouldn't go back.

Had dinner after movie night out.
Started out kinda shaky. I do not like the "straight to order' kind of attitude from waiter. But it got much better. Food was very good. The side salad to begin was delicious. I had the pork chop dinner. They were excellent. My husband had the lamb w the spinach. He loved it!
    Free valet. not bad.
About a ten minute wait for a late Saturday night dinner. Also not bad.
    Will be back

This is usually our back up choice if Greek Islands has a crazy wait.  The food is good, but not spectacular... nothing really special at all.

Like I said I prefer Greek Islands, right around the corner. I think it is so much better, all the way around.   The service is the same as any other place in Greek Town - all male waiters, kind of robotic in service.  This place like the rest has free valet - which makes life a tiny bit easier.

First off, I give Roditys some major props for being a frequent host of some informational MS (multiple sclerosis) seminars. I attended one last week and we were very well accommodated. We were served and treated as if we were regular patrons. The portions were out of control! Just when we thought dinner was over after being served a soup, salad, and then some gyros with that white yogurt sauce, a full blown entree came out! We all laughed, knowing we could not eat another bite. I think the waiters picked up this vibe and promptly started passing out containers to everyone -which was super cool, as I ate the delicious leftovers for lunch the next day! The main entree was a sizeable portion of chicken, some type of red meat, potatoes and rice with veggies.

This place was bustling for a Thursday night! Every table was occupied and there was a healthy noise level -everyone seemed to be having a great time. There were plenty of "Opas!" and flaming cheese platters being served in generous proportions throughout the night.

My only criticism is that due to all the fun, it was a bit hard to hear the presentation. We were in a somewhat private room that seemed to have closing doors but, due to the size of the MS group, the doors were not closed. Our party spilled out into the other room which was being shared by regular patrons. This was somewhat awkward. The information being presented is pretty important to those of us who attended so being distracted by conversation and "Opas" was a little distracting. If they could fix that situation, that would be great!

HUGE BONUS: Free parking lot right across the street (which I didn't see as I passed, so I found free street parking on Van Buren, a few blocks away.)

Overall, a good experience, tasty food and generous portion sizes.

we wanted to have one last greek meal before we left Chicago. Again, we were hoping to have it at Meli, but the line was too long. Anyway, we began walking back to our hotel and chose to eat at Rodity. We had the saganaki, definitely recommend. I had the souvlak with rice pilaf, which was pretty good. The staff was all really nice and courteous. My only complaint is that the meals were a little expensive. For 2 entrees and an appetizer, the cost was $35. They have free parking in a lot across the street.

I went for a late lunch with my son in the middle of the week.  SInce he hadnt had greek food before he asked a few questions and  the waiter seemed annoyed with our questions.  We went simple Greek - saganaki, lamb kabobs and the worse rice pilaf in the history of the world.  Did they serve us Uncles Ben's with ketchup on top?
OMG - 2 stars because the lamb was ok and really how bad can you mess up flaming cheese.  Will not be returning to this Greek restaurant.

Rodity's only gets 2 stars from me for a number of reasons.  Normally I only go to Greek Islands in Greek Town but I bought a Groupon to Rodity's. So be it.  We sat at the bar and Monica was excellent. (she gets one of the stars)

The Athenian salad was pretty standard, but very fresh and the olives were actually great - I normally don't go for kalamata olives but theirs were juicy and plump.  The grilled octopus was also delicious (it gets the other star) but I feel like you can get really good octopus anywhere in Greek Town.  (The Greeks just KNOW how to do octopus the best!)

My boyfriend ordered the BBQ lamb ribs which are a standard Thursday special and they were out of it. (Which I thought was ridiculous because a) the place was basically empty at 8.30 on a Thursday and b) they didn't even tell us until at least 15 minutes after we ordered. He ended up with the fisherman's platter, which was fine, but it's kind of difficult to screw up a plate of friend fish.  The gyros was just okay...it's homemade (which is good) but I felt like it was missing something. I ordered the appetizer as my dinner, which was plenty, but the tzatziki they served with it literally came in a plastic to-go container with a top on it that had been pulled out of the fridge. So there was not even a hint of freshness to it and it was really tacky.  It also took like 45 minutes or so to get our food.

Did I mention that there was practically nobody in there?

Monica did a great job and the Makedonikos wine was excellent...but Rodity's doesn't get the credit for a good Greek wine.  And I concur with another Yelp reviewer that the house red should be avoided.

They only get 3 stars because their gyros meat is delicious. I would skip the following: egg lemon soup (kind of tasteless. My favorite in the area is at Artopolis), the combo plate (although the Pastichio was passable), the Veal Sweetbreads were offensive (and I love sweetbreads..this however made me question my love of sweetbreads). The Saganacki was standard.

My boyfriend asked for a recommendation for wine. Our waiter suggested the House Rose---holy diesel gasoline. That wine could burn chest hairs off. I'd stick with water.

Service was quick a little too quick. Sometimes some servers are on double time with a little too much 5 hour energy in there system. Ha, you can only imagine.

I would have a drink or 2 before you come, or drink at the bar. Don't order the house wine, it was horrible for my taste. Stick with water or soda if you ask me what to drink.

We ordered the Saganacki (Opa) for kicks and giggles. Can't go wrong with flaming cheese at a Greek place.

The rest of the menu looked good, but I stuck with Gyros, and it was super good. Made perfectly! My girl order the sweetbread and she said it was horrible, so make note of that.

Cool Greek authentic  restaurant in Greektown. They have free parking across the street which was a big plus.

I would actually give them 3.5 starts if I could. I will say this is the only place in Greektown I've gone to twice, but the second time was only so-so. This place has zero ambiance. Greek Islands definitely wins there. But I like the menu better at Rodity's and its tzaziki is really good- the combo plates there better and I think it's good value. However, I made the mistake of ordering the spanakopita as an appetizer. It was foul. The spinach was worse than frozen Jewel brand spinach.
The service has always been attentive, but I think I will visit some other Greek places first before I come back.

We have eaten here many times, but our visit the other night was disappointing on many levels.

I ordered the braised lamb special as I have a dozen times before. What was served to us this last time was nowhere near acceptable. After I had picked out the bits of good lamb, I was left with a plate full of mushy fat. Far more fat than I have ever had with this dish before.

When we brought it to the manager's attention, he insisted (many times)  that is how it comes, and it's always like that! Unless I have imagined eating here before, that is completely false. The flavor of the little bit of actual lamb was good (which is why I order it every time we go there) but the sheer amount of fat was, frankly, disgusting.

After the manger saw that the "It's always like that" argument wasn't working, he switched to "That's how the chef cut it! What can I do?" argument.

My companion ordered a shrimp dish. $16.95 for 5 shrimp! Not jumbo prawns, little average sized shrimp. They were clearly overcooked and tough which the manger explained away by saying that since my companion had order potato instead of rice, what else could we expect?

The manager was borderline rude, and totally disinterested in what we were saying until the very end when we said we would just contact the owner the following day. Suddenly, he (abruptly) asked if we wanted something else from the menu.

In the end, they comped the meal so at least it didn't cost us. We tipped the waiter who apologised, which is more than the manager did.

Something is going on in the kitchen there. I don't know if they are cutting corners to increase profits or what, but there are so many other choices in Greektown that poor quality and service need not be accepted.

Great place for some good Greek food. Went here for a work dinner and we had a selection of apps including the grilled octopus, stuffed peppers, cheese and fried zuchinni.

I had the vegetalbe mousaka and it was quite tasty. Baklava is a can't miss for desert.

    Service was good and prompt.

This is so bizarre. I didn't even remember I had been here before. The last time was with a big group of fun loving folks out for dinner. Today we stopped in for lunch after picking Christopher's aunt up from Union Station. I am convinced that in order to truly enjoy the Greektown experience, you need to be in a party mood.

My food was ok. I had the pastichio and we ordered saganaki because our aunt had never had Greek food before. Christopher had the small order of shish kebab and his aunt had a few side dishes as she was not overly hungry after her trip. The food was fine, but in the naked light of day there was just nothing exciting about the experience. The place was empty for the most part, and even with the Greek music it felt kind of hollow and tired.

Now I will have to go to the Parthenon to compare experiences because that is where I thought I had gone before. It's hell getting old.

The best restaurant in Greektown for dinner.  Probably the most authentic tasting and I've been to all restaurants in Greektown.  I am Greek so I think I would know ;)  We always go here as a family.

A comparison of other Greektown restaurants:
-Greek Islands used to be good until they were shut down by HHS, I don't go there.  Also they support illegal immigrants. But mainly their quality has gone down.
-Athena's food is gross, although they have a nice patio outside.Costa's food was gross too.
-Santorini was okay the one time I went. Never went back though.
-Artopolis has the best avgolemmeno on that street and probably in Chicago.  They are great for lunch, their salad is nice too. Plus they have the little glass coke bottles.
-9 muses is good for a chicken souvlaki sandwich and a frappe but the owner is a jackass.

If you are expecting an enthusiastic OPAAAA!! like you see in the movies, that's a little old and tired and you missed the boat on that one.

And no they don't do that in Greece.

PS Free parking at the lot across the street for customers.

It's Greek home cooking. Rodity's isn't fancy Greek food, the dining room isn't there to knock you off your feet, but the food is oh-so-close to what Yia Yia (grandma) in Athens will put on the table. The octopus is my favorite closely followed by the village (horiatiki) salad.

The waitstaff is always great.  I believe my husband may somehow be related to them though, although every Greek we meet he tells me is a cousin or uncle or aunt.  They always greet us with a big warm smile, a plus in my mind. Valet parking is nice too.  Not rare in Greektown but still a plus.

Big fan!  Love Greek Town and Rodity's is the place for me, husband and daughter/princess!  Great service and yeah the free parking lot is a bonus you don't find often outside of Chicago restaurants.

I don't get some of the negative reviews.  I love the Village Salad (no lettuce, lots of ripe tomatoes, crunchy cucumbers, bell peppers, onions, hunk of feta, good amount of oregano and the dressing is basically a good quality olive oil).  A chopped salad like this is supposed to be well chilled so I don't get the reviewer complaining that his salad was too cold.   Mine was perfect!  Chilled plate and all.

Isn't Greek food basically homey and unpretentious?  Then why are people complaining about Rodity's execution?   We're not at Trotters or N9ne people, it's Greek Town! I love their Taramosolata, Tziaki and the obligatory Sananaki.  My husband swears by their Greek style broiled chicken.  A 25 minute wait but he thinks it's totally worth it.  He's also a fan of their Okra.  I like their Gyro plate, quite traditional with just onions and sides of Tziaki Sauce.  Never had a problem with getting an additional pita or two. Just ask.

Great waiters and busboys.  Fun place for a group.  Family style dinners at around $18 are a great way to try their most popular dishes.

Ok, so I'm totally in love with Roditys.  Free valet, the crazy Greek waiters, the amazing busboys, and the wood mosaic in the second room. (Don't worry about the neon blue emanating from the ceiling..they're Greek, I think it means water.) But enough of that, let me tell you what to order: saganaki (of course. opa!), athenian salad, and moussaka.
    You'll thank me later.

Add the lamb chops as another reason to go to Roditys.

Roditys is still a consistently good but uneventful Greektown restaurant. The sampler plate of Greek starters is a good value and a way to satisfy your desire to try it all. The lamb chops were recommended as the best lamb dish, and they were excellent. And, of course, so was the fish, again.

Good service, clean restaurant, nice decor but nothing fancy.

My mom used to love Greek food and Rodity's was one of her favorites in Greek town. So in honor of Mother's Day my brother, my husband and I decided to head to Rodity's and grab some lunch.

My husband and I arrived a bit early so we decided to grab a couple of seats at the bar. Of course this being a restaurant that has been around for years you had your regulars at the bar that you could imagine coming here since the day the place opened. Alot of history here folks and I bet these walls have some stories to tell.

When my brother arrived we were seated right away and were given a fresh basket of crusty bread covered in sesame. I was starving so of course I went to town on the bread. I decided to go with the Greek Chicken and we ordered  the Saganaki (flaming cheese) and the Taramosalata. (fish roe) Both family favorites. We did a toast to mom and It was almost like she was right there along side us enjoying some lamb and spinach pie. :)

The meal was delicious as always and the service was top notch...you just can't beat the old favorites.

Roditys is old school Greektown. It radiates warmth and has a little more heart then some other spots on this strip.

The lunch crowd was all Greeks and all men. But they still welcomed my dad (not Greek, but a man) and me (not Greek, not a man). In any other company, we actually both could pass for Greek.

I love saganaki and am currently interviewing personal chefs who will prepare it for me every morning.  The saganaki here was ok. A little thick around the edges. A little too chewy. And the "Opa!" definitely lacked enthusiasm which is always disappointing. Maybe it's because it was only 11:45am. And nothing really can compare to my Greek Island experience where the waiter's sleeve caught fire amidst his especially feverish firing up of the cheese.

Did enjoy the octopus and dolmades. Both had soul. Octopus cooked 2 seconds too long or short has disastrous results. This was charred just right and served with a flavorful tomato and wine sauce.

Dad got the lamb. The cut was especially fatty this time, but he claims it's usually lean and tender.

This is our favorite restaurant in Greektown, hands down.  The service is great (we always ask for Louis).  The food is family-style Greek cooking, simple, yet delicious.  For the appetizer, we always order the saganaki.  Who doesn't love fried, melty cheese?  I also recommend the cold octopus salad and skordalia (garlic potato spread blended with olive oil) for appetizers.

I've had the Grecian chicken, Keftedes, and Moussaka, which were all delicious.  But I almost always order the fried calamari with rice and Greek potatoes.  He orders the Gyros every single time.  Really good simple food at reasonable prices.  Plus there's free valet parking across the street.  The valet attendants are very friendly, as well.

First off, our service was quite good. The waiter/busyboys/valet/hostes all very friendly...

The food is just a little subpar compared to neighboring Greek Islands, Athena, etc.

It almost seemed like geriatric Greek food. Like everything was a bit soft, too much dressing on the salads, not enough...UMPH. (or opa, whatever you wish). My dolmades were drowning in sauce, my salad drenched in dressing...the saganaki was very good though, as only fiery cheese can be.

The parking lot is a nice plus, however...but almost all the Greektown restaurants offer this, so it's not really a dealmaker/breaker.

One of my favorite places in Chicago. Even though the food is great, the waitstaff is unbelievable. You can tell they are career servers (and greek!), not college students, and treat you as though you are their main priority. But besides having the most amazing service ever, the food is hearty, amazingly tasty, and an overall great experience (not to mention a super cute decor!). If i ate at this restaurant every night until I died, i would be a happy person.

Roditys was my first exposure to Chicago's Greektown restaurants. It tasted really good, but I had nothing to compare it to. Within 2 weeks of that visit, Greektown seemed to be THE place for every work outing my company had planned. I visited 4 other restaurants on the Halsted strip.

After eating enough Greek food to last me a year, I could honestly say I still liked Roditys the most. And although it doesn't have the ambiance of the nearby places with beautiful patios and bars, the service and food is way better.

There are so many Greek restaurants within two blocks of here, but we love Rodity's.  This past Saturday night, there was a half hour wait at Greek Islands, but no wait at Rodity's - and I just don't get it.  The food at Rodity's is great - saganaki is fantastic, my pastichio was delicious, my guest loved her moussaka, and my other guest loved her gyros.  Great prices, too.  No need to wait elsewhere, this is fantastic.

My guest told me that Greek Islands is crowded for dinner, but Rodity's gets packed for lunch.  Odd!
