Finding Rookie's is almost like finding that cool hidden bar that only locals know about. The atmosphere is super relaxed, there's always room at the bar to hang out and watch a game and the food is actually pretty tasty! Although I can only speak for the wings. Tried both Buffalo and BBQ and both were winners in my book.
The thing that really stands out though is the service. The bar staff is great. Very attentive and quick with a drink. AND a heavy hand at that! I'm a pretty seasoned Tequila drinker and the way she poured made my head spin after 2 cocktails. WOW!
Relaxed atmosphere with good food, great booze and a neighborhood dive-y feel? Sign me up!
The wing eaters said they were excellent. Â They tried a couple of different sauces and enjoyed them all. Â I had a salad but the lettuce didn't taste particularly fresh. Â It tasted kind of flat. Â It was the shrimp and mandarin salad and while the shrimp were great, the rest of the salad was bland. Â My wife had a Cobb Salad and said it was very good but that was romaine lettuce while mine was probably iceberg.
Once our food came, we didn't see our server gain, which might it difficult to order more drinks or refills. Â In her defense, she may have been the only server working that afternoon.
TVs everywhere.....loved that for sure!
Rookie's is actually a nice hang out place for watching some games. I think each booth has a TV, at least the one I sat at did, and I thought that was pretty cool. The place could use a bit of a clean up though, the table was still a little sticky and so were the menus....
For Food: I had a pull pork sandwich which was OK tasty but just HUGE...which is a plus in some peoples books I guess. Just not in mine...
I think I will have to go back though and try some of these wings everyone is raving about ;)
This is one of my favorite spots in Huntington. Rookies has really stepped up their game in the past two years, the beer selection is awesome and the menu continually changes.
Their wings and burgers are fantastic, especially the Old Timer burger. The servers are always friendly (although they only have one server on weekends, seems like she could use some help).
Wing night is great, a little more expensive than other places but you are never empty of wings or beer, so it's definitely worth it.
Definitely gets a bit loud during games (it is a sports bar after all) but nothing too crazy.
They also have a great deal for lunch during the week!
Definitely check Rookies out :D
A sports bar...with good food? Â YES! Â I actually end up coming here more when there are no sports on TV so I can sit back and enjoy a brew and some eats (and the waitstaff ;) Â
Any-who, Rookies actually offers a surprising amount of craft brews in bottles and on tap. Â A far cry from some of the sports bars up the street who only serve large quantities of brews that end in 'light'. Â Let's get back to the food.... The wings are pretty much tops for me on the Island. Â The parmesan garlic, honey hot (thai and buffalo hybrid) and pan asian are so much more legit than BWW or any other 'sawse-bawse' place. There is a full menu but I haven't had anything past the apps in prob 3 years (that's not a bad thing at all) so I wont touch on any of those items.
Rooks has a great happy hour (which lasts all day on Thursdays) with $2 of drinks and $5 apps. Winners on the HH menu are the he pulled pork quesadilla with slaw, the Nascar Tots (the heart attack is worth it) and the fried mozz is my fav on LI. Â
Great place to grab a brew and a good game before hitting the town.
I really like visiting this restaurant for the appetizers and the beer with friends. The waitress is very kind and always busy. My favorite appetizer is the nachos. I always crave a Corona because I see the ads all over the wall. It's a great place to bring your friends and have a great time.
Review Source:Not my favorite place in Huntington, but a great place for a late-night weekday. Â I often find myself coming here after a late night of work for food, drinks and a game. I've always enjoyed the food. Â Never really have any good drink specials. Â Music sometimes way to loud for a random weeknight.
Review Source:This is one of our prefered places for Sunday football games. Does get cramped, but the friendly crowd is used to it. U shaped bar with booths along the walls. Staff and kitchen really make this place above your average sports bar. Excellent wings, great burgers, top notch onion rings. Very cool bartenders and wait staff. Much wider beer selections this past season.
Review Source:My fiance and I have really come to love this place. It's a little dark and gloomy inside (it's a bar, after all) but don't be fooled by appearances. The food is amazing (especially the burgers and appetizers). Next time you're thinking of going to Friday's or Applebee's, try this instead (provided you don't have children, since it isn't exactly kid appropriate).
Perks- Each booth has individual TVs that you can control and put on the game of your choice. Great for families who want to watch multiple games at once!
Negatives- It can get kind of loud and crowded during important games. But this is also kind of fun! :)
Picked up wings from Rookies for the games. Â Definitely overrated!!! Â The were spongy, the breading was just weird and they were hardly sauced. Â With wings, you have to have a lot of sauce on them. Â I'm a Brooklyn girl and I think that even my diners have better wings than that. Â Plus, they're wicked expensive. Â That said, the "hot" factor on the Hell Wings was definitely on target, however, not enough sauce. Â We were scraping the bottom of the container to get SOME sauce on them. Â Won't be getting them again.
Review Source:Stumbled upon this place while trying to go somewhere else that turned out to be closed. Â Service was quick, food was good, and the tvs were everywhere. Â It wasn't loud when we were there, but I can imagine it gets real loud during games because it's just all one big room. Â Each booth has their own tv with a controller built into the wall, which is really nice.
Review Source:Ok... Nothing great, bar seems small, and even a good amount of the seats at the bar would be considered lousy. Â Either huge beer taps or computer games take up a considerable amount of space. Â
Wing night doesn't start till 9pm, Â I'm not sure who came up with that, but that's ridiculous. Â Thats just what I want to do, all you can eat and drink at 9pm...
I walked in the other day and almost fell over when I got whacked in the face by the smell of grease. Â Someone should look into ventilation, or open a door to get some fresh air.
My husband and I love this place. Â It's a great place to grab some awesome wings and a great beer and watch the game. Â There is a small TV in every booth and you can change the channel to watch what you want. Â The Parmesean Garlic wings are crazy good but if you are looking for something hot try the Honey Thai Hot wings. Â They have a large selection of beers.
Review Source:Rookies was a great place to watch the Yankee playoff game. Â It is not very big on the inside, but we were able to score a booth by arriving 30 minutes before the game. Â It was loud because of the excitement of the game but not overly crowded or obnoxious.
The food was awesome in a greasy bar food way, and the portions were enormous. Â The service was shockingly quick considering they didn't seem to have that many people working. Â Beer is not too expensive. Â Finally, and critically, there is a huge parking lot so we were able to find a spot right out front. Â This was key as there was NO street parking because some kind of carnival was happening in the town. Â I would definitely return.
Every summer a group of friends gather on LI for a softball game and dinner at FH Riley's. Â Unfortunately their renovations ran longer than expected and we were forced to find an alternate dinner location. Â Being that the majority of people come from out of town, we were left to the internet for ideas. Â Rookies looked promising: generic food, decent prices, and casual enough for our loud & strange crowd. Â
What a disappointment. Â I picked up the drink menu only to find awful mass produced beer. Â Who would have thought I would need to ask the waitress "What beers do you have that aren't on the menu?" Â It appears they got an additional set of taps but haven't gotten around to promoting that via the menu.
Some of our friends had already ordered by the time we got there, so I can't comment on their food. Â The nachos looked as unappetizing as they were. Â The guacamole was an ugly shade of green. Â I shared the Grilled Filet Mignon and Blue Cheese flatbread which was extremely cheesy, much to my liking. Â My boyfriend had the Grandma's Recipe flatbread and was not impressed. Â I looked around the table and no one really seemed to be enjoying their food as much as I had hoped. Â (It was a large group...I can't recall what everyone ordered.)
We continued to chat and drink and the waitress dropped the check on us. Â I guess that was because we were her only table, and perhaps she wanted to go home. Â I thought that an almost empty establishment would work in our favor, but it didn't. Â They were rather empty for a Saturday night in Huntington.
Given the number of bars and restaurants in Huntington I'm sure we'll do better if FH Riley's is closed again. Â And I don't think I'm being too picky: there were plenty of other bars & restaurants that were rockin' that night, while Rookie's was dead.
I am a fan of Rookies. Â I actually find for a sports bar, it has surprisingly great food. Â I am big fan of their burgers, especially their Old Timer buger which comes with bacon and their Rookies sauce. Â Everyone's order came out perfectly prepared, and the chicken sandwich was also noted as a good choice.
Ordered the nachos one time which were gargantuan and excellent.
Overall, my missing stars, are because of two things. Â The prices are a bit on the overpriced side. Â $12.95 for a cheeseburger w/ bacon, and no refills on the iced tea. Â
AND, lastly, this place gets MEGA MEGA LOUD! Â Like deafening. Â I am not sure if they pump in artificial sound, perhaps to cause intentional deafness, but at its peak level some siren sounded and it was like the noise meter at the Nassau Colesium just erupted. Â I was waiting for the confetti to fall from the ceiling.
My advice, wear earplugs and order the Old Time Burger. Â Thumbs Up, from LoudVille.
I have eaten at Rookies about 50 times in the last 12 months. Â The beer selection is not great -- only about 6 beers on tap. Â The soft pretzels are (usually) exellent. Â The pulled pork (minis or sandwich) is excellent! Â The wings are really good! Â The bartenders are very friendly. Overall, 4 stars! Â Would definitely recommend it!
Review Source:I went here on the night of the presidential inauguration. I started off with a Long Island Iced Tea which was made poorly. The drink tasted too strong and there was too much of a particular liquor that i couldn't place (that drink seems to have everything in it). I exchanged it for my usually safe apple martini which, unfortunately, was no good either. For food, i ordered a plate of 12 buffalo wings for the table. I've definitely had better. They weren't spicy and they didn't taste so good. I also had a create-your-own-burger and an order of sweet potato fries. When I got my order though, the fries were regular fries so I had to tell the waitress. No big deal, but i dislike having my order wrong. About 15 minutes into my meal when I was practically done w/ my order, the sweet potato fries finally came out. They were the best part of my meal. I think they would've been even better though, if they had come out soon enough so i could actually eat them w/ my burger (which was actually good). Overall, i don't think i'd go here again. Rather unfortunate too because it was a nice sized sports bar with lots and lots of tvs (each booth actually had a tv in the wall at the end of the table).
