Favorite comedy club in the Bay Area! Â The pricing is better than most, and the comedy is always fabulous! There doesn't seem to be a "bad" seat in the place, unlike some of the bigger venue's around. Â The staff here is very friendly compared to most comedy clubs. Â If you look online, you can often find "coupons" which make the pricing even better than the already great pricing, and they are fabulous about honoring the coupons you find. Â Very no-hassle club, all the way around. Â Love this place!!
Review Source:I've been here once before a long time ago. Â It's in a weird location which doesn't have much parking. Â Both times had to end up parking on the street and walking a bit which is ok. Â This place is relatively small and intimate. Â Comedians here I tend to find aren't super big name people in comparison to the Improv but they're always pretty funny here. Â Drinks are pretty tasty too. Â Overall a good time.
Review Source:LOVE LOVE LOVE Roosters!! Â Everyone is always so sweet... over the phone, over email, and while paying. Â Thursday nights are always a great time... something mellow to do during the week. Â This place is truly wonderful.
Roosters is VERY accommodating when it comes to group rates, or bday reservations... just call and ask. Â I celebrate my bdays here and they are ALWAYS willing to go above and beyond to make my group happy. Â One more thing that I love is that whenever they try and seat us along the stage, I always ask to be moved and they gladly move us... I am wayyyyyy to shy to be picked on my the comedian.
Lastly, Sometimes the acts suck... but thats not the clubs fault.
If you subscribe to Rooster T's facebook page, you may be able to snag some awesome deals. Claimed a deal off the page tonight for 2 admissions for $10 and had a great night out with the family. Also important to note, the website has an internet coupon that seems to always be available.
I advise calling in to make reservations. The reservations are honored even if you don't buy the tickets in advance -- just as long as you come by the specified time to claim the reservation.
My partner and I went to Rooster T Feathers on a Friday night recently. The comedians were great and their diversity was a real nice change of pace. The space was a bit small, but not in a bad way, in a "no bad seat in the house" sort of way. The cocktails are a bit pricey, and unlike other reviewers, I didn't enjoy their "most popular drink" (it's name has something to do with a rooster). I did however enjoy their lynchburg lemonade as well as their nachos! Â The tickets were so inexpensive, it definitely made up for the drink prices (obviously that's the point). Overall, it was a really great date night. I will definitely be going back soon.
Review Source:I always laugh my you know what off when I go to Roosters. I wish their drink menu had more choices for draught or bottled beer or for food choices (although the nachos are good), but that has never stopped me from coming. Â I think I've been five times now and will continue to come as a fun local night out.
Review Source:My husband and I went to Rooster last night to watch Ryan Stout. We had a lovely time. Laughed a lot. We bought a bottle of wine - which covered for the two items per person mandate. The wine wasnt spectacular, but we didnt mind, it was just something to sip on while you laughed and laughed and enjoyed the evening. I am sure we will go again. Laughter is indeed the best medicine and this is the place to get it!
Review Source:Great laughs at great prices!
This place is pretty awesome. My husband and I really enjoy going to Rooster T Feathers, or, "The Feath" as we fondly call it. You'll often see comedians here that you'd see in the fancier/pricier places in San Francisco and San Jose but here, you get to see them in a much smaller setting and for way less $. And they're just as funny so there's really no down-side!
Just like at other venues, there's a 2 drink/item minimum but all the food and drinks are very reasonably priced. My favorites are the rooster just and the watermelon margarita - both citrusy and delicious!
Pros:
- Place is kept very clean, including the bathrooms (and there are speakers in there so you don't miss out on what the comedians are saying if you have to go!)
- Very friendly wait staff
- good food and drinks as good prices
- they don't pack you in like sardines which is appreciated.
Cons:
- The location in Sunnyvale is not really near anything else, or near public transit, so it's a bit of a trek to get out here.
for my brother's birthday, we went out to a local comedy club outing.
they have a small parking lot in the back. there is a stage with a red velvet curtain background. during the show, you are required to order two items from the menu. it can be two drinks or a drink and food. the waitresses are friendly and unobtrusive during the show to get the orders.
that night, ruben paul who has headlined at comedy central was there. the opening act (michael something) before him were not funny...especially the skinny, short white guy who tried to make us laugh by making fun of himself. yeah...uh...no.
ruben paul was enjoyable as a comedian. he is from LA. he made fun of his haitian background and different cities (sunnyvale, LA, etc).
the crowd was a bit strange. he would ask questions like, "who is from ___?" an audience member would scream yes. but when he asked further questions, the person (happened a couple times), would say, "no, not really". strange.
but all in all, rooster T is a good local comedy club in the area. check it out!!
Great little comedy club. Â Always had a good time here. Â Quirky, low key vibe (not a chain club like the Improv). Â A real local gem. Â Gotta check it out if you live in the area.
They get some newer comedians, and some better known folks. Â There are usually 3 acts in an evening - the evenings 'host', the warm up act, and the headliner. Â I've seen some very funny shows over the years - such a fun place. Â
Keep an eye out for coupons (online and sign up for the free birthday coupons).... Â
Entry is usually waived with the coupon, and there are often $5 specials on drinks (I am a fan of their Rooster Juice) .. where else can you have a great evening with live entertainment and drinks for under $20?
Thanks for the good times Roosters!
I came here to see Arj Barker and this guy was funny as hell! The comedy club itself  has a nice layout and the center stage seems to be fully viewable from all seats. They got a full bar and they also serve hot food. The waitresses were nice, the atmosphere was great and the comedians before the main act were entertaining.
Review Source:Great comedy spot for local entertainment. Â It's a small club with a stage raised a couple feet high and tables arranged in front of it. Â There's no bad seat in the house since everything is so close. Â On Sundays its only $13 with a two drink minimum and there are some pretty funny comics performing.
Review Source:I'm a little surprised I haven't written a review for this place yet.
We've been here several times over the years, and have always had a good time.
There are great ticket deals to be had, and I've gotten 10 free tickets on two of my past birthdays. How can you go wrong with a free show? (Goldstar often has deals too.)
They have a lot of local talent performing here, as well as some bigger names occasionally too.
Their mixed drinks aren't the best, but I do realize it's a comedy club.
Another plus, (at least for ladies) the bathrooms are pretty clean, and that's saying alot for any kind of club where a lot of drinking is going on.
It's obviously a different kind of vibe than the clubs in SF, but it's a great find in this part of the Bay Area.
Parking is always easy too:)
This place is cheaper and less stuffy than a lot of other comedy clubs, but well, let me do the run-down:
PROS: Reasonable menu prices, college and military free nights, lots of parking, a wide variety of comedians.
CONS: Not that many seats, stale bar food, and NOTE: if you use GROUPONS for this place you should expect to get crappy seats even if you arrive extra early and the place isn't crowded. Also, the place gives priority to only people who prepay online or over the phone with credit cards, so you're out of luck if the day you're going is sold out.
This is a great venue! I thought all 3 acts were legitimately funny.
It was a $13 cover, and they do accept credit cards - bonus points. There are definitely some prime seats in the house, but we sat off a bit to the side and enjoyed the show just fine from there.
minus a star for a broken fridge. I know it isnt their fault, but i overheard them saying it was like that for a couple of days. that meant no draft beers, no hummus, and no hot dogs.
I ordered the chili nachos instead, but i wish there was a little more chili. it's also hard to eat in the dark. Our waitress was amazing and brought wet and dry napkins!
thursdays are margarita days. all are $3. bingo.
Improv gets bigger demanded talent. There is no one denying that.
This place gets you best friends for the night. Say wha, you ask?
I guarantee you that you have a best friend or two that has made you laugh more than some 25 dollar headliner. And that is what you will find here.
Cheap, intimate and away from rotten downtown bacon fests. Keep them in business and keep your community one step ahead of culture.
This was my first comedy club. I used a Groupon to try it. I am glad I did!
Like I said, this was my first comedy club, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. The comics made me laugh. The drinks were reasonably sized and priced. The location used to be a bar where the first ever video game (Pong) was located.
I plan to return.
I love that there's a good comedy club in the south bay. Â Â I've been going here since I was old enough to do so, and it's always been good. Â I've yet to have a bad time.
The club's small enough that you can catch an act from the bar to the front row, and not miss a gesture or expression. Â Staff's friendly. Â Drinks are generous. Â Wait to get in isn't bad.
It's not only a great spot to bring the team, but has served as a delightful date night spot. Â Great for that group of friends that needs a change-up, and that's the right start to a wild night!
So Happy-- my first time here and the comedian line up was a hit! I think I was laughing so hard...tears were rolling from my eyes.
I was also happy about the way we showed up right at 8pm when the show started and had seats reserved for us, just because we pre-booked online!
Even though the place looked pretty much full, there was still plenty of street parking and space in the club to walk around. The place is laid out nicely, where you could have a good view of the stage from any section. Two item order from the menu is mandatory-- but that's understandable-- every one has got to make their money, right? We each ordered the Chocolate Martini-- mmm dessert in a glass. Yumm. Lots of other drink choices, as well as your typical bar food, like nachos, and stuff that will clog up your artery in a heartbeat. Didn't go there.. just stuck with cocktails. ;-)
As far as coming back here? Of course I would come back! Laughing is good for the soul and this place is all about laughs!
The other day I came here with my women's group for a comedy competition. One of the women in our group was one of the comedians performing that night and we came to support her. There is a ten dollar cover charge at the door. The show was great! There were fifteen comics and one professional one at the end of the show. I don't recall what this guys name was who did the last performance, but he was pretty funny!
There are lots of interesting sounding drinks on the menu. I started off with the bikini wax, lol! It was a fruity drink and it was good, but to weak. The second drink that I had was the dirty mothers milk. It had butterscotch schnapps, baileys Irish cream, and rum in it. It's also made with coke in it, but I asked for them not to put any in there. It has enough calories as it is! That was strong and good! Both drinks were between $6.25-$6.75. Some of the other drinks had funny names to like the cock tease and sex with the captain or something like that, lol!
They also serve wine and beer here. There is also a menu for food. They serve only a few items though such as popcorn, hot dogs, nachos, and a couple of other things. The service was a little slow but the waitress was nice. There is an 18% gratuity that is added to the bill for large groups. The only thing about this place that I didn't care for is that they dimmed the lights to much. It was so dark in there that some of the women in the group could barely see the paper that we were given to cast our votes on. Also, the parking lot in the back is pretty small. So try to get here early if you want to park behind the club.
Rooster rocks! They bring in great talent, and it's always a fun experience every time I go!
The first show we saw was Technically Funny with Don McMillan. It wasn't his first time coming to Rooster to do a comedic set on Silicon Valley, engineering, and computing. He was just hysterical, and his opening act, while not quite as "nerdy," did at least do a set on video games!
I've since come back several more times, and all the acts have been wonderful. Rooster has a way of getting some very unique acts into their establishment.
The venue itself is decent, though nothing special. I can't help but contrast it with the San Jose Improv, which feels a lot more like a theater. By contrast, Rooster feels a lot more like a bar. Small tables are scattered throughout the restaurant, and servers are rushing through to get everybody their food and drinks.
The only thing holding it back from a five-star review is that all the food there is terrible. Everything is greasy and just tastes awful; the options are very limited as well. Food is one area where the San Jose Improv is light years ahead of Rooster, even though the San Jose Improv's food isn't great either; the big difference is that the San Jose Improv at least has a much longer menu, and allows you much more selection.
I'm not saying they have to become a gourmet restaurant (San Jose Improv certainly isn't), but if Rooster added some hot wings...or chicken strips...or cheese fries...or mozzarella sticks...any of those, really, I'd certainly give them a five-star review!
I visited this venue for the Year Of The Dragon comedy set. In general, I found the comedians to be pretty funny. However, it felt a bit like amateur night. What I mean is that some of the comics lacked fluency in their routine or at times seemed really nervous or froze.
By no means do I think that getting up in front of a bunch of people you don't know is easy. Nor would I ever do it myself willingly. So I commend these guys who tried their best I'm sure at making it a good show. All in all, I had a good time but I didn't pay the $10 admission fee. There is also a mandatory 2 drink minimum for all guests.
Our mixed drinks were blended well and had just the right balance of alcohol/sweeteners and I would definitely order them again if I come back. The nachos however definitely could have been skipped. However, in the three times I've been here I have never been wowed by the small selection of food they sell.
Service was on point and friendly throughout the night. Overall, I had a good time but I really think they should drop the 2 drink min. That's unlikely though because I know that other clubs like The Improv have similar policies. It's too bad though because I'm likely to want to come more often if I didn't feel forced to have to drop upwards of  $25+ dollars for just a few hours on some OK comedians (and that's not even guaranteed). This is especially so when I have usually already ate dinner by the time the show has started and am not really a big drinker and stopped drinking soda recently.
Chances are if you see me here again it's because it's FREE College Thursday night, because I'm not paying, or because they have a famous headliner. Â 3 stars they remain.
I went to Roosters over the weekend to see Darren Carter. He was hysterical, no lulls in the act. His warm up act and the host were very good too. There was nothing wrong with facility itself but certainly nothing spectacular either.
The tables are very close together so legroom can be a small issue depending on where you sit. The drinks are nothing to rave about. And if you want to use the restroom make sure you do before the show. This is just good mannors regardless but additionally if you are seated far from the restrooms because of the tight tables there is no navigating your way to the restroom without disturbing everyone including I would assume the comedian.
I would definitely go here again but with expectations of more of a dive bar feeling.
Had a great time here this past Friday night for my sisters birthday celebration. The comedians were hilarious.. I love it!! Good times...
BUT - the only thing I didn't like was the service.
we ordered drinks and food. which took awhile to get, I understand there were alot of people there, but they had like 3-4 servers. The Chili Nachos came cold. She messed up on one of our drinks but did say it was on the house because of her error. At the end we had 3 tables going, a party of 15+ and 3 split checks. So tell me why she charged gratuity of 18% on each bill for a table of 12, and then a table of 3 had another 18% grat charge and my sisters table had 4 with again a charge of 18% ... ??? Not cool. I thought what a Rip!! ...
2 stars for service but 4 stars for the show!
Come here with the mindset for cheap laughs and you'll have a great time. Don't come here with the mindset of being a theater critic because the comedy is really hit or miss.
They do have a (loosely enforced) two-item minimum for drinks and food, and a one-tab-per-table rule so make sure not to bring the friends who will somehow foot you with the bill.
I've honestly never had a bad time here. Even when being heckled by some not-so-funny comedians. Bring a good group of friends, have an open mind, and enjoy a cheap night out in Sunnyvale.
This place can really be The Bomb if you luck into a good lineup of comedians! Â
If you are looking for something to do on a Friday or Saturday night, Rooster T. Feathers may not be a guaranteed night of fun, but it beats the heck out of seeing some useless, recycled drivel of a 3D movie at the local Googleplex, which will be available for streaming or DVD viewing in 3 months anyway :-) Â
Given a good lineup of comedians, if you follow these rules you are sure to have a great time! Â
1. Â Don't sit at one of the tables directly in front of the stage if you are going to get all bent out of shape when the comics pick on you. Â That's their job!
2. Â Don't heckle - it is distracting for everyone. Â You are not adding to the show like you seem to think you are.
3. Â Be courteous, and don't talk to your group about anything, not even about the jokes. Â You just attract attention to yourself and distract the comic as well as others around you.
4. Â If the comic notices you, and starts one of those "What's your name, and boy are you in trouble now" dialogs, remember: you're a billionaire ex-Ivy League entrepreneur, your name is Mark Zuckerberg, and you're moving to Antarctica...
Food & Drink: Â A two-item minimum purchase per person applies. Any food or drink menu option counts as one item, with the exception of full bottles of wine (or corkage) which count as four total items. Â
Service: Â The servers are generally pretty friendly. Â Unlike other comedy clubs I've been to, they are pretty good about leaving you tab open until the end of the evening.
Location & Decor: Â On El Camino in Sunnyvale. Â There is not much to the decor - the place could definitely use some updating, but you shouldn't spend a whole lot of time worrying about what a comedy club looks like - you're here to laugh!
Last weekend, a dear friend of mine hosted the tail end of her birthday celebration at Rooster T. Feathers' 10:30pm Saturday show. Â While the spirit was more then willing, the flesh was weak - I only got 5 hours sleep on Friday night, and was dubious about my ability to stay awake through the end of the show.
No worries! Â One of my best Yelp buddies, Janice C., told me just what I should do: "if you wanna stay awake for the comedy club, you should just have irish coffee there. LOL"
I ended up having a great time at Rooster T. Feathers, and I wouldn't be surprised if you do too!
I had NEVER been to a comedy club until I went to the 1030pm show last night (02/20/10) and I had such an AWESOME time that I already know I will be going to more, especially at Rooster T.
Opening acts: Grant Lyon and Conor Kellicutt
Headliner: Bryan Callen (MADtv, The Hangover)
I went with a couple of ex-coworkers who I had never really hung out with outside of work before and my one ex-coworker, JJ, used to work at Rooster T so I'm glad I came with someone who was experienced with comedy clubs/Rooster T and kind of walked me through how the acts go on stage, what drinks were good, etc. At first I was dreading having to pretend to laugh at the comedians just so JJ wouldn't feel bad if I didn't have a good time BUT the whole lineup of comedians was funny from beginning to end.
DRINKS/FOOD: I had such a good time that I forgot the names of the drinks we ordered. I do remember I got the pear cider and it came in a green bottle and everyone else had martinis (could you tell I was designated driver? Lol.)... I know one had the word "17" in it. I also ordered the chicken nachos; pretty yummy, nothing extraordinary but then again you can never go wrong with nachos.
STAFF: They were super friendly and efficient. It genuinely seems like they love working there which always projects good vibes onto customers.
DESIGN OF VENUE: I think the set up is pretty nice. It's spacious and the seats were arranged in windows (meaning I didn't get blocked when a guy at the table in front of us kept standing up because he was enjoying the comedians). I saw some reviews about there not being enough spots in the lot but there was plenty of parking when I got there (but then again I'm always earlier than punctual).
OVERALL, this place definitely deserves the 5 stars I'm giving it. Rooster T broke my comedy club AND my Yelp review virginity. This place was so amazing that I finally decided to actually write a review on Yelp!!! I will definitely be coming back here more often and I will recommend it to all my friends.
We went on a Saturday night with the free tickets from the Yelp offer and I'm really glad we came. This is the first comedy club that we've been to and I was not disappointed.
Parking wasn't so bad, the lot is small but there's a lot of street parking on El Camino.
We had three comedians and only the second act was a little awkward: the guy smeared frosting over his face and pretended to be a mime. Yes he smeared betty crocker's frosting on his face...ehh. The good news is that his act was short and the other two more than made up for it. The whole audience was really into the other two and it seemed like a really fun crowd.
Skip on the food and go for the drinks! If you're looking to save some money, get soft drinks or just order the popcorn for $2.25. That's probably the cheapest way to get your 2 food item minimum. The wait staff was reaally nice and though they messed up our order, they corrected the problem immediately. I don't blame them considering there were so many tables and it was a packed house.
Notes: Unless you have a party of four, you may be seated with strangers. DON'T sit in the front if you can't take the heat because you will be fodder for the comedians jokes.
They accept AMEX & Discover
This was me and my friend's first time going to a comedy club. We didn't know what to expect. We had our college IDs on a Thursday night and got in for free. The 2 drink minimum was reasonable. Â Everyone kept saying not to sit in the front because those who do get made fun of constantly. But when we got there, the hostess sat our group of 4 Â right in the front. At first, we were thinking of taking a further seat behind us, but we just decided to go with it. Since we were at the front, the comedians kept making fun of us but that was the best part of the night! We had such a good time!
Their Rooster Juice was fruity and strong. Me and friend had 3 each (plus the shot from Jon Dore comedian) and we were feeling good! Highly recommended!
Don't forget to bring a designated driver.

~Allergic Girl's Guide to Life~
My first comedy club experience was at Rooster T. Feathers. We had an extremely good time. Our table was at the very front of the room in front of the stage. The staff was friendly. I had a Shirley Temple, while the others ordered alcoholic beverages (they have an extensive menu of drinks).
The comedians:
Opening: Johnny Walker.
Headliner: Brent Weinbach (Andy Kaufman Award Winner, HBO Comedy Arts)
Both were very talented comedians. Sitting in the front Brent Weinbach actually incorporated us into his act. I look forward to watching more shows in the future. If laughter is the best medicine, than Brent Weinbach is your man! I was laughing so hard- I almost cried!
Noelle's Notes
Cozy comedy club!
Noelle's Post Secrets
i HEART Brent Weinbach!
Rooster T. Feathers is one of the few enduring comedy club venues in the South Bay. I've been here many times over the years and have enjoyed many great shows.
Wednesday evenings they have Open Mic Night. If you're aspiring stand-up comic, this is a great place to practice your talent. On this particular evening, S and I came to see a friend of mine (Gail Jones) - who has been polishing up her act - and I have to admit, she's pretty funny.
The deal on Open Mic Night - if you know someone who's performing, mention them as you call to make your reservation, and they'll get an extra minute of time on stage (I think that each comic is allowed 4 minutes, and if the comic is bad, 4 minutes can be pretty painful).
There's a two order minimum - either drink or food. I've never tried anything other than the popcorn here, so I can't comment about the food. The menu lists a bunch of mixed drinks, but those concoctions seemed  too sweet for me, so I settled for a gin and tonic, which was a little weak on the gin. Service was great even though they were short on waitstaff - our server was bustin' her tail and we really appreciated that.
Reservations are a must - especially for headliners. There's a $10 cover charge on Wednesday nights. Tip - instead of paying full price, Rooster T. Feathers offers coupon tickets for free admission that you can either find on-line or find the coupon in one of those Entertainment books.
There are so many benefits of laughter - check out the following link:

Food: Only had the drinks
Service: Great, but nagging on a slow night
Price: Print the buy one get one free coupon online
The first time we went to Rooster's I had to be dragged, literally. I'm not really a comedy show fan due to the typical costs (and likely, the fear of getting picked on). Friends convinced me and we got tickets for the full Friday evening price ($18, in general). Roosters requires a 2 drink minimum and although the show was entertaining that night, I was annoyed that they required the 2 drinks.
Went back on a bday pass (bring 9 friends for free). Not only was this a great deal, but we also picked a popular night and we didn't get beat up for not ordering 2 drinks each.
The main attraction comedians have yet to disappoint me. The introductory comedians are usually, surprisingly, quite entertaining.
Drinks: stick to the Rooster Juice in the cocktail section (plenty of alcohol content). The watermelon martini is a big mistake. Tastes like jolly ranchers. The pear cider is also quite good.
TIp: print the bring one friend free pass and I guess, whenever possible, try to pick a popular comedian so they don't nag you to purchase drinks and you'll have a grand 'ol time.
Did you know that Prius's are made of half gasoline and half rainbows? or that when 2 Prius's collide that a panda has a miscarriage? Â
That's some of the lines that stuck with me after the comedy show on Friday the 13th. Â
Kevin Camia, who I've seen back in the day during my college years, emceed the event and I was just pleasantly surprised because I always thought he was hilarious. Â The 2 acts thereafter, were, eh, not that funny. Â The sound system played a part in it because my friends and I had difficulty hearing them. Â I've been to Rooster twice before and the sound was never a problem until that evening. Â I really did try to give the comedians a chance but just couldn't get into them. Â
There's a 2 drink/item minimum and wow, the nachos were really delicious. Â Anna and I totally malled on them. Â Surprise, surprise for me! Â I have ordered food previously and most of the choices like popcorn or chips and salsa or the hot dog were just stale and the prices that they charge is pretty crazy high!
They do offer some discounted prices such as Military ID night where you can get into the 8 p.m. show for free.
