I came here for a friends birthday on a weekend night (party of five); we were really enjoying ourselves and sat for a good 2 hours at a front table, and the service was excellent from start to finish. The maitre d' / host even came and took pictures of us with all of our cell phone cameras like a good sport. The food was a good mix of typical tapas/small plates and unusual combinations. I would love to come back and try some of the wines by the bottle, our group was more of a mixed drink crowd. Would definitely come back
Review Source:Rouge has fantastic ambience, great service, and a greek salad so good that I literally can't stop thinking about it. This restaurant has an amazing nightly prix fixe menu that offers couples a bottle of wine, an appetizer or salad, two delicious pizzas, and a fabulous greek dessert - all for only $50! An unbelievable value and truly great food. I have been a few times now and cannot wait to go back!!
Review Source:Three lovely ladies were in need of some adult beverages and some good food. Â A dark and red wine bar sounded like the perfect solution.
We made a reservation and were seated shortly after arriving. Â After our water was poured, the waiter came over and asked us if we would move to a smaller table to make room for a bigger group. Â It was fine, just kind of a hassle since we literally just sat. Â They couldn't have thought of this 3 minutes prior? Â So we sat at our new table and waited for a few minutes before we were shown menus, a peeve of mine. Â I was beginning to silently get annoyed. Â But the raving reviews of my two lovely mates kept me hopeful.
Since there was much to choose from on the menu and three of us, we decided to go with 6 options (leaving room for dessert). Â
In order of deliciousness, starting with the least and working up to the most, here were our choices:
Fried zucchini and squash
Tuna Tartare (though this was one of the other girls' top choices)
Sagonaki (fried cheese)
Pinchos (Steak brochette / chimichurri sauce)
Pan Seared Scallops
Pumpkin Ravioli (heavenly)
Oh I should mention that just because things fall at the bottom of the list does not mean they were not good. Â Every bite was yum!
We also split the chocolate lava cake and the creme brulee. Â Delish!
I don't think you can go wrong with any wine, but I went with the Pinot Noir and was very pleased. Â The staff was good and did well with checking in on us.
It was one of those meals where you feel drunk on good food and good wine and great conversation. Â In the end, I completely forgot about the snafu's that started the experience.
Friday Night - we wonder why so few diners are here. The room is pretty with a pleasant, intimate feel. The menu seems a bit pricey particularly for the appetizers but it is mostly on par with the other local places. To our delighted surprise the food turns out to be superb. It was delicious, very well presented and the portions were quite large. We shared 3 appetizers and a salad. It was ample food for my husband (a hearty eater) and me. So good was the food that we couldn't resist trying the desserts and they were outstanding also. All this rounded out with a wonderful glass of port.
Lamb Lollipops 4 small chops, beautifully prepared and garnished
Cerviche Lots of seafood, large portion
Enpanadas Quite good
Baby Beet salad with goat cheese Lovely except the beets were not baby and there were not enough of them.
Crème Brulee Just right
Chocolate (Lava) cake Particularly good
The only misstep was the service. Perhaps it was not the usual wait staff or some such thing; we will try it again to give them another chance. Several times we waited for someone to come and finally flagged down a hostess or buss person to request another drink or the dessert menu. It did seem that some of the staff just stood around talking to one another. A small disappointment to an otherwise lovely evening.
Loved everything about this place. Â Went on a Thursday night - the place was not crowded, nice setting for couples or small groups. Â Great wine selection - in fact they carry my favorite Chardonnay, Cakebread. Â The tapas was delicious; among my favorites were the lobster risotto, lamb lollipops and tuna tartare. Â Desserts were equally delicious - try the creme brulee or lemon meringue!
Review Source:Only had the wine here but I love my Albarino, and Torrontes, in addition to anything Greek! All of which they offered. I peaked at the menu and it was right up my alley. The selections of reds were just as tempting and I like the Rona glasses.
I am thrown by the duties of their employees, as one employee stood motionless at the end of the bar the entire time we were there without interacting with the bartender or anyone else.
Excellent place to go for a nice sit down dinner, especially during the restaurant week.
I had to work late this week with my coworkers so we head out to "Rouge" for their $30 restaurant week special.
-- decor: Â urban chic, red lighting and dim interior, HUGE mirror on the back wall. A few open patio seating in the summer.
-- service: though the first waiter was hard to get his attentions for, the other waitress was very attentive and periodically checked in on our table. When the flan for dessert option was out, she offered to replace with any dessert on their dessert menu. We lucked out! Â =)
-- food: Â solid 4 stars! Â We tried:
- Appetizer: Ceviche -- that tasty zesty lime flavour with very fresh seafood, a decent amount as well, serviced in a martini glass.
Mushrooms Bouquet with blue cheese -- a bit of teriyaki flavoured, my coworker really liked this one, it goes very well with the bread as a dip too... Â
- Entree 1: Lobster Risotto -- though everyone else raved about it on the review sites, I feel that it's good but that's about it. They do give you plenty of lobster meat in this one though.
- Entree 2: Steak au Poivre -- my coworker ordered it medium though I would've personally chosen medium rare.... it's excellent, decent size too.
-- dessert: Â Creme Brulee and Martini sponge cake... Â we were so far at the end of the meal... everything is good.. Â =)
definitely a come back to site!   ^_^  Oh, my coworker did order the sparkling water which turns out to be $8 + tax + tip  ~$10
I've been to Rouge a number of times now and I always enjoy myself there. Every dish I've tried here from the Bread Spreads to the Tuna Tartare to the Grilled Lamb Lollipops, everything is always prepared well and as promised. Â The wine selection is extensive and the drinks poured with a good and heavy hand. With all of the positives, I'm not sure why it is not packed with people on a more regular basis!
Review Source:My boyfriend took me here for my birthday as a surprise earlier this month. The food itself was phenomenal and the place itself is quiet & cozy. We went a little early on a Tuesday so the place wasn't busy & had just a couple people there. The food was amazing, we had a appetizer that was pita breads and hummus type dips, incredible(the name of it escapes me currently). After we finished all our bread and had dip left over our waitress offered to bring us some more bread, we gladly did. For dinner I had two tapas thinking they would be small but to my surprise one would have been plenty for a meal. I had the muscles & lobster risotto and both were extremely good. My boyfriend had the lamb and loved it. Service was great and I would definitely go back here.
Review Source:Rainy night in SoNo, so we decided to give the greek gods a whirl... and it worked. (the owners are a well known greek family with three or four other places in town- so well known in fact i forget their name)
Wine selection was excellent... but a few more french by the glass would not hurt.
Mezzo superb.
Duck superb.
Lobster risotto superb.
Lamp lollipops superb.
Lemon dessert superb.
This revue is from a brutal food and service judge and ... there is nothing on the menu at rouge that one could actually make better at home. not a thing.
So I won't try...I'll go again.
