    ~~~Rumrunner's closed it's doors for good in December of 2012.  Mr. Gallo was forced by the city to sell the liqour license because Rumrunner's had so many violations.  ~~~
    This is a great place to stop for a bite while touring downtown Anchorage...It has several big screen TV's, with plenty of room. The waitstaff was prompt and very nice....I had the Halibut Sandwich, which is pretty much on every menu throughout Alaska...
    can't believe i actually have to give them a star at all. In all honestly can't tell you how the bar is because I wasn't allowed in.  I can tell you though that if you are an 120lb 20 something female with no criminal record whatsoever having some drinks with your girlfriends and happen to want to check out this shit show the gigantic bouncers may deny your entry and then HANDCUFF YOU and have you ARRESTED for TRESPASSING.  I've never heard of bar bouncers having the authority to HANDCUFF people- but i guess the owners of this two-bit operation decided it was a good idea to give their ex-highschool football player, meathead employees a false sense of importance.  Maybe being able to play "cop" with a FEMALE HALF THEIR SIZE helps these goons justify their life decisions and how they only get paid $10 an hour after that sports career they were banking on never panned out.
    While being handcuffed in the lobby for an hour or so I was able to observe some details of the establishment.  It smells like a moldy Jagerbomb and has an overall date-rapey kind of ambiance to it. The dimly-lit back office room or whatever that three gigantic dudes forced me in against my will while still handcuffed seemed to lack general upkeep appearances and offered virtually no ambiance whatsoever! :/
    I guess the only plus side of this establishment is that, by handcuffing and having me arrested for no fucking reason, these idiots prevented me from spending a single penny in this place.  Last time I checked, bars seemed to like when young chicks on a mission for a good time with pockets full of cash wanted to enter their business-  I guess not at Rumrunners.  NEEDLESS TO SAY I'll never step foot anywhere near this shit show, and will advise everyone I can to do the same.  So, to AVOID POTENTIAL INCARCERATION steer clear of this goon bar with a dated business model.
    Yeaah....This place is a DUMP! It's filthy!! Not one clean surface in the whole damn joint. Like I would never go to the bathroom here based upon what I saw in the main room.The hostesses' neglected and dirty little munchkins running around all over the place and her perch! Sweet jesus! They need to put a screen up to hide the friggin mess at the front; doesn't really fill you with confidence in a place where you are about to eat something...And the food took forever and sucked. Our biggest mistake it seems, was coming here in the light of day with the intention of eating over drinking. No doubt this place would be fine to come and knock back a few. Staff is nice enough (except the salty and uber fertile hostess), and knowingly apologetic about everything...
    Reminds me of the old J&M in Seattle. This is a good place to stop and have a few cocktails as you tour the bars of Anchorage.
    Was here for Sunday football 12-18-11. The place has a few TVs located around but what really surprised me was only a handful of patrons there.
    We had the bacon cheese burger and fish n chips appetizer. All was good as expected. Would I return, sure...I think you can't go wrong with this establishment but honestly nothing special or lack luster.  Just what one would expect...but sure would like to know if the lack of crowd for NFL football Sunday was the norm I experienced...
    We were at Rumruners in Anchorage today and the experience was less than what we expected.  It started out well.  We were quickly seated and our waiter came by with menus and took our drink order.  They were busy but not full, maybe a little more than half.  Twenty minutes into our visit the waiter finally came by with our drinks which two were incorrect.  Not good since there were only three of us.   At that point he took our orders and twenty minutes later he came by delivering our straws and exchanging the incorrect drinks.  About fifteen minutes later he came by saying the kitchen was backed up and that 'happens' from time to time.  Unfortunately they had delivered food to several tables around us to groups that came in after us.  I would guess he forgot to turn in our orders.  After close to an hour we walked out.  I couldn't comment on the food since we didn't get any.   It doesn't appear they care to service their customers since it is in the heart of the tourist district and few come in more than a couple of times.
    We were walking around one night---unbeknownst to us how late it was because of the 24 hour daylight during the summers in Alaska! It was nearing 10pm and we still hadn't gotten dinner.
    As we walked back to our Hilton home of two weeks, we passed this place and decided the menu was expansive enough where my friend would be able to satisfy her craving for fried foods, and I could find the big cobb salad I'd been wanting all week.
    Service was good- they got the order right, and we waited for a good 10-15 min at a table near the bar, where they were quick to offer free drinks while we waited. PLUS.
    We got our food to-go, and when I got to my hotel room, I was disappointed to see that my big ol' cobb salad had two full hard-boiled eggs (the real reason I'd been wanting the salad!) that looked OLD. The yolk part did not look good at all, and I did not even attempt to eat it being that I had to be up for work at 6am the next morning. Sucks.
    The sweet potato fries were yummy though, and the tomatoes on the salad along with the grilled chicken was good too.
    My hotel room was on the 20th floor, and even all the way up, at 2-3am nightly it was super loud at the bar. I'd wake up in the middle of the night and have to turn up my iHome that my iPod played from. Meh.
    This place is right in the heart of downtown Anchorage.  The service was alright, the beer was superb (when is it not when you are thirsty), and the salmon chowder in a sourdough bread bowl was amazing!!
    It was kind of mixed feelings at this place, but the chowder was so good that I can't complain.  It was thick and creamy and had chunks of smoked salmon.  MMMM!  Really soothing on a cool Alaskan day.  I was in and out pretty quick as I was getting a weird "outsider" vibe from the server.
    Overall, good food, strange vibes!
    Moving it up a star for consistently good lunch. I note that most of the reviews are for the nightime bar scene. Mine is just for lunch. I notice some tourists wandering in from the outside hot dog wagon and park area. I seem to get the same great waiter - he's always there and always friendly. Food was fast and the onion rings are definately the way to go instead of the fries. I enjoy the food and the five tv screens during the noon hour.
    I've been visiting Alaska over the last eight years every summer for the salmon. Ever time I'm here, I hit rum runners. The service has been consistently good but food quality has definitely been going down each trip. I won't come again. This last time the salmon chowder was barely adequate and my friends halibut sandwhich tasted like a frozen filet from Freddy Meyers.
    I haven't had the best experience with Anchorage nightclubs since I've been here, but a group of us came here after a holiday party downtown, and I was fairly impressed. We were there early enough to sit in the raised area above the dance floor [against the same wall of the front doors] and service was quick and helpful.
    The DJ was also amazing - awesome mashups, old school hip-hop and general crowd-pleasers. Whoever was spinning that night knew what s/he was doing.
    My only complaint was when I ordered a round of kamikaze shots it definitely wasn't what I'd ordered. Not sure what they put in the shots but it tasted strange. Other than that, a fun place, I'd definitely go back.
    If I'm forced to give this place a star, they only get one. Waited 30 minutes for our food - low rent half sandwich of grilled cheese and a cup of tomato soup and a bacon burger with onion rings. The wait was long because someone gave our meal to the wrong table. It wasn't our waitress fault she was nice so the reason this place gets a star from me.  I'm just disappointed with my grilled cheese. When I ordered it I said grilled cheese and I got it with bacon and tomato on it.  I was too hungry to send it back. Pretty much this place is a bar trying to make food.  My suggestion-just stick with the liquor if you come.
    Joe and I have eaten here twice and we most likely will never return, unless we need a warm place to catch a taxi.  The first time we ate there, I don't even really remember what we ordered.. it seemed good but we were starving and freezing.  We would stood around a garbage can on fire eating weenies - nah, I take that back.  Anyway, the second time we ate at the establishment it was dead just like the first time.  We were the only customers and the cook was hanging out with her boyfriend or I assume that's who he was.  In fact, all the staff was hanging out at the bar.  I ordered the spinach artichoke dip with pita bread and chips for $10.00, what a rip off.  Joe ordered a steak which was supposed to have pistachio butter (the only reason he ordered it) and it didn't so that had to go back.  The cook dropped his fork on the floor and didn't bring him one back, which is a good thing in this case I guess.  I was forgotten and finally was able to get a refill on my diet Pepsi but on the way back to the table the waitress stopped to talk to the rest of the staff at the bar holding my drink like it was her own, I am just glad she didn't drink out of it.
    Last weekend we tried Rumrunners again.  The local radio ads claim they are under new ownership and have added several new things to their menu.  Well I am even more disappointed than before.  It was a Saturday night at about 6:00 pm.  The entire bar staff consisted of two bartenders, two cooks and one waitress.  That's right ONE WAITRESS !.  This poor girl was running her ass off.  The tables were not getting cleaned and the service took forever.  Our food was a soggy cold grease ball by time it was served to us.  I can't believe the jerks behind the bar or in the kitchen wouldn't come out and help her.  I only ate a few bites of my food and gave her a large tip since I felt sorry for her.  The owners should be ashamed of themselves.
    This is not really my type of bar.  It is loud, it is full of "pretty people", and there's a cover charge.  So why  is my ranking so high?  I worked downtown and knew all the bartenders and bouncers very well.  Never had to pay cover, got free drinks, and since I knew so many people, I hardly ever got hassled by dirty, lonely boys.
    That being said, if you like to dance and like to get dressed up, this is a good place to be seen.  The cover really isn't all that bad and there's plenty of room to hang out.  You could do much worse in this town.
    Great spot for a large group. They have great food and again...another place with hot staff. They are attentive and good at what they do. They have pool, video games, big screens, whatever you want, they have it.
    Great for groups!
