Chilkoot Charlie's

Since when did establishments thinks its cool to let their bouncers tell drunk people to fight with them and then beat up drunk people that haven't even taken a swing at you. Just saw this last night. Bad bad bad. If this continues they should be closed. It's to bad that the anchorage police are so busy because they should really have a presence at this bar to watch what's going on. If I was the owner I would be ashamed that I had hired so many bad employees. Also witnessed all the bouncers including the one watching the door all go out to take part in the antagonizing of a drunk person that just needed to go home. Who was watching the door and checking Ids during this?... No one. It was a free for all. I love this bar but these bouncers need a course on their job, or half of them need to be fired.

I wanted to like this place since we got multiple recommendations from locals, but we were pretty disappointed.
For starters we arrived at the bar around10pm hoping to still order some food and unwind with a few drinks after a long day. This is a dive bar- so do not make the same mistake as us and order a glass of wine and a mixed drink. Stick with the pitchers of beer like everyone else. The red wine tasted like vinegar and was spoiled. The mixed drink was horrible- how do you screw up a cranberry vodka? I had to fix it by remixing the cranberry and asking for limes. Two gross drinks for $13 in a dive bar! Should've stuck with the beer.
Also, no food at 10pm. Kitchen is closed. That was irritating.
The DJ was playing techno pop music crap that was giving me a headache and I had to watch one guy fist pumping like he was on Jersey Shore and there was a band groupie with two moves "hip, hip, hair flip".
The saving grace for giving it an additional star instead of 1, is that they had a pretty good band playing that evening. Thee Homicidal Supermodels were really entertaining and I needed to be drunk to be in a place like this. They had a couple singers with awesome voices and they broke out with the jams.
I doubt I'll ever be back, but anyone venturing to Chilkoot's late at night, stick with the beer and go for the live entertainment.

Wow! What a night we had there! We went in to have a few drinks and to play trivia, Geeks who Drink. Just know our team was horrible but it was a lot of fun! I can say I am glad we took a taxi there! Neither of us could have drove home. This place is awesome! They have lots of different themed bars around and they also have live bands. After our trivia a band was playing and people were dancing. They also have the Birdhouse bar which is a replica of an older alaska bar with peoples unmentionables hanging from the ceilings and on the walls. Make sure you ask the host to try the ptarmigan whistle when you are in the birdhouse, it is an unforgettable experience!
Drinks are strong!
