I want Sage to be a 5 star establishment  because the food, space and service has always been 5 star.
However, to me, it lacks something very important: an identity. It is stylishly sterile. When I bring friends there they always ask " what is it?"... A lounge  a bar, a restaurant?? In general people do not want to eat and drink on couches and coffee tables. It's awkward, messy and does not make a good impression for a first date.
My review is mostly for the drinks, which were really spectacular. Â The decor and feel is amazing here, and I will definitely return for more food in the future. Â Love the variety of vegetarian options on the menu - we had the Mediterranean flatbread which actually wasn't great, but everyone's food around us looked amazing. Â The flatbread was really bitter and not super cheesy, so the bitterness didn't get subdued by anything else on the plate. Â We had the Celery Inferno and the Ptown Super Juice... wow, the Inferno was amazingggggggggg.
Review Source:We LOVED the Sage lounge - the classy, low key vibe (sage color scheme, of course), the way sage and other herbs (grown on site) work their way into fragrant, potent cocktails, and some pretty damn amazing customer service.
We started off with the sage cucumber cocktail (gin, cucumber, ginger, fresh sage, lemon juice) and the celery inferno with cucumber vodka, celery juice & bitters, ancho chili, and black pepper syrup. For a hotel lounge, the cocktails are downright POSH.
We continued with two dessert cocktails, a Reese's martini with house infused peanut butter vodka (sounds odd but it works) and a coconut lime cocktail with Kaffir lime vodka.
Alana was our server and it wasn't long before the conversation evolved into photos of our pets and chat about recipes. She's awesome.
We're here all week so we will be back for drinks and some apps. The entire menu is fabulous.
We visited Sage for a friend's birthday while in Ptown for drinks and snacks. Although they don't serve large entrees, there's enough good stuff on the menu that you good easily go here for dinner. The lobster sliders, beef short rib, Wellfleet oysters, and truffle fries were all excellent, but the flatbreads were a bit boring compared to the rest. The meza trio (goat cheese, hummus, and tapenade) was delicious! The tapenade was the best with a bright, lemony taste, and refills of toasted pita were brought over so we could scoop up every bite. Finally for dessert we had the Sundae Gone Rogue: vanilla ice cream rolled in crushed potato chips, with chocolate sauce and bacon--wow! Absolutely fantastic. And throughout the meal the service was friendly and warm. Definitely recommended.
Review Source:Came here in the off-season to experience the new place that I've heard so much about.
It has a little bit of a small-town charm meets upper-east side elegance to it. Â Everything is manicured with neutral tones of mushroom, taupe, and sage. Â The tables are low to the ground and are more meant for a quick bite to eat - they are a bit uncomfortable if you are planning on staying for a full meal - as you need to hunch over to eat. Â The drinks were very delicious. Â The food was yummy - served tapas style.
Sage is set back from Commercial Street and you would go right by it without noticing it, but it is a bit of a hidden gem. Â Spent two nights here and had a very enjoyable stay, complete with tasty drinks from the lounge, which were some of the best we had on our trip. Â The lobby and lounge area is great; modern and chic yet warm and inviting. Â The hotel room was great for the price. Â It was big by Provincetown standards and came complete with a couch, table for two, mini refrigerator, et cetera. Â The room didn't feel cramped and was spacious. Â The staff were also friendly and uber accomodating.
The only draw back was some SUPER obnoxious creeking/ticking noise in the wall that slowly and painfully drove us to insanity whenever we were in the room. Â Luckily we didn't spend too much time there but trying to sleep with tick tick tick tick tick happening every single second was a bit of a challenge. Â I think I can still hear the ticking even now.
I really liked the Sage Inn. Â It's the old Pilgrim House, refreshed, repainted and re-imagined, and it pretty much works.
The rooms are above the loungey small plates and events space with access through there until 1am, or at all hours from outside overnight via an elevated walkway from Commercial Street.
The rooms are small, tidy and clean, and a nice bathroom. All more than adequate if not spacious or exactly luxurious. For the money, it's perfectly nice.
I don't love the bath products in pumps, as much as a laud the environmentally friendly nature of it, there  is too much risk of someone tampering with the products, and who doesn't like itty bitty shampoos to take home? :)
My biggest issue about the place is the lack of a public area for guests to hang out in. Since he entire downstairs is given over to a lounge and public spaces, there is no place to just hang out and read, have coffee, etc. Â There is a small upstairs lobby area and smaller function / overflow bar. Those need to be turned into space for paying hotel guests to hang out, with 24 hour coffee service (and an ice machine -- as nice as they are about getting you ice, it needs to be available around the clock.)
So that's why the 1 star off perfect -- invest in some public space for the guests and you'd be a 5 star place.

Here for six weeks and enjoying the restaurants in this town. I have been to Sage on many occasions and have found the food wonderful. The chef has done an amazing job creating dishes that are unique and can serve two people as small bites. Crab cakes delicious, clam chowder different but great tasting and sliders tasty and just cooked to perfection. Also recommend their chocolate dessert with brownie squares, vanilla bean ice cream and chocolate syrup. Kudos to the women who own Sage and the chef who runs a terrific and on time kitchen.
Review Source:I think they named this place Sage because after they took over the Vixen they had to burn ten million bundles of sage to get rid of all the bad karma and heebie jeebies that Vixen had. That, a couple coats of paint, and some very nice upgrades to the front bar make Sage a spot worth checking out.
On my recent visit, I didn't spend any time in the fancy front bar, with a classy gas fireplace showcased prominently, cool light fixtures and modern sofas and chairs. Instead, I opted to watch football in a camp chair in the back bar. Which was awesome, btw. They had this tailgate-themed thing where they showed the game on a projector and sold corn dogs and stuff like that. The place was pretty packed with lesbians, considering it was October and Ptown was winding down for the season.
The new look says, "Relax and enjoy some Chardonnay or an infused cocktail while you discuss independent films with your friends," where the old Vixen was more, "Drink 6 shots in an hour and vomit in/near me while your friends are doing blow in the bathroom." I don't drink wine, but I'll take that scene over the latter. Sometimes anyway.
It was cold and windy outside, and I just wanted clam chowder. In a town full of seafood restaurants, you'd think that would be easy to find, but when you're eating gluten free, it can be a serious challenge indeed. The cute guy out on the sidewalk by the menu was super friendly and told me and my SO that the clam chowder was gluten free -- hurray! He also mentioned how the lobster knuckle sandwich could be made into a salad instead, and he pointed out the sorghum beer on the menu. Beautiful! In we went. Sadly, our server was not nearly as knowledgeable about the menu, and told us that the clam chowder was not GF after all. Â What a heart-breaker! I pouted for a while; we eventually ordered the Parmesan fries with truffle oil, which could have stood to be a little crispier, and the shallot fondue with rice crackers, which were boxed rice crackers and just okay. The decor was kind of nice if you like a clean and modern twist. Â Didn't try any of the drinks but they looked pretty interesting. We were hungry afterwards and ended up next door at Karoo instead. No clam chowder for me.
Review Source:Sage is a great addition to Provincetown. The new owners did a wonderful job transforming the old Vixen into a remarkably chic lounge with excellent small plates and drinks. Â The lounge is a comfortablel place to meet with friends and family for good food and conversation.
The Wellfleet oysters should not be missed. They are done with a cilantro mignonette on a cloud of merigue. They were so tasty that we had to order several plates. The lobster sliders are stuffed with fresh lobster meat and the accompaniment with beet chips makes it a little different from the usual. The Flatbreads are enough for a meal. The fries are unbelievably tasty and not greasy.
This is a excellent place and should not be missed.
Consider me pleasantly surprised.
The Sage Inn is a great little spot off of the main drag in PTown. In fact, as you're walking down Commercial Street, you're likely to miss it.
The rooms are small, but quaint. The furnishings are just fine having been recently renovated.
Booking the room was also a breeze, with the staff being very accommodating and helpful.
The lounge and bar is nice. They've got great cocktails and even fun twists on their beers. I ordered a simple stout and the bartender suggested sprucing it up with a Chambord Floater. It added a lovely fruit essence to what would have been an ordinary beer.
Parking is limited, so be sure to book early so you can snag a parking spot for yourself.
Wow! Â A friend had told us about this spot so we thought we would give it a try. Â I have never considered Provincetown as a great foodie place. Â We really come here for the cool weather and the beach. Â I was absolutely stunned at the great quality of the menu and the food at the Sage Inn & Lounge.
When we walked in the door the vibe was calm and hip. Â The staff was very accommodating, it was raining outside and they offered warm thick beach towels. Â Our server recommended the featured cocktail for the evening, a cucumber infused vodka martini with a lemongrass simple syrup, fresh squeezed lime juice, chili threads and a lime twist. Â It was delicious. Â
The menu style has a variety of small plates similar to concepts we see in Austin. The Sage  uses local, fresh ingredients, farm to table concept. We asked the server how many items we should order for the two of us; she recommended starting with two and we could order more if we wanted more. We ordered the Knuckle Lobster Sliders to start.  The buns were so fresh, soft and warm.  The large pieces of lobster were  cold and very flavorful, yummy beet chips were served on the plate as well.  The Pork Belly was next for us, OMG, really really good.  For dessert we had the Key Lime Parfait which was a perfect, light way to end our meal.
I really hope people will get out and try this place, the chef is young and very talented, the interior is very soothing and most incredibly if you are a member of many of the non profit organizations in Provincetown that they list on their menu they give back a percentage of your check to that organization.
Sage Inn and Lounge is incredible. Â It's right off Commercial Street, but tucked away so it's peaceful, serene, and beautiful. Â The ambiance is incredible, and who wouldn't love oysters served on lemon meringue clouds and clam chowder served tableside?! Â The chef had training in France and the menu is full of creative twists on modern favorites.
The rooms are sparkling clean, modern, and spacious. Â To top it off, they let you park onsite which is a HUGE bonus. Â I can't wait to come back to this little spot in October. Â It was fabulous!
Sad for this spot, it's hidden off the main drag and was dead on a Saturday at 8:30pm. A needed addition to our town, a restaurant/lounge with a spiffy renovation and a varied menu of small plates. Hope it catches on...
Beef sliders, clam chowder, olive tapenade, asparagus salad, malt and herb fries, and fish tacos. Pretty good stuff and not wildly priced.
Maybe they need some cool background music (wasn't on the outdoor deck seating) to liven things up?
And the waiter was helpful and quirky and kept making goo-goo eyes at my dining companion. Sorry, honey, he's my hubby--taken!
We loved the Sage Lounge! The food was incredible... I ate half a dozen raw Wellfleet oysters! Everything was delicious. We actually spent a couple of hours and chatted up the staff. Everyone is incredibly warm and friendly. The customer service is spot on. We had heard about Sage from our friends in CA... and it does not disappoint. Just so you know, it's off Commercial.. so you simply have a look a little harder for it. We will definitely be back the next time we're in Ptown!
Review Source:This is my first time at Sage, formerly the Vixen. We went with friends of ours who have been twice before and while there were a few "hiccups," overall it was a pleasant experience and we will be back.
First the good... the clam chowder was wonderfully creamy and was beautifully presented. It was anything but low cal, but what good clam chowder is??
The mini-burgers were wonderful and came with beet chips, drizzled with olive oil. These were possibly the best sliders I've ever had. If I'm in the mood for a light dinner, the mini-burgers and a beer would definitely hit the spot!
The mini lobster rolls (which my partner got) were decent, although a little dry.
The drinks were good, I just wished they used glasses that left you with a little more drink.
The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful and I would love to come back with friends and just hang out by the bar. This would also be an ultra sexy bar to go to in the winter if they added a baby grand piano and a fireplace!
The fish tacos which were really dry and barely warm. The presentation was once again beautiful, but there was nothing moist in them. I always compare fish tacos to Guapo's Taqueria in Brewster, MA and this didn't even come close.
The only part we really did not enjoy was our waiter. Typically when four people order you'd expect the waiter would bring everything out all at once. Half of our party received their first and second course and by the time the rest of us got our first course, they had already finished. I understand those mistakes can happen, but then our waiter blamed the delay on the chef. The hostess informed us this wasn't the first time this has happened.
Overall, we had a great time and I will definitely be back with friends. My one piece of constructive criticism is that I hope they take time to train their staff more. This all took place when it was barely half full... I wouldn't want to imagine the situation had it been packed. These guys have a good thing going and I hope they do well.
The Sage Inn is tucked away from Commercial Street but in the center of everything! Our room was extremely clean and the bathroom with the tub was lovely. Sit on the community deck and eat your continental breakfast. I'm so happy a place like this exists in P-town. There is also an outdoor herb wall! I hear the cocktails are delicious here.
