Ordered food for delivery.  They came in a timely manner.

Let's not put on airs.  This place used to be a diner, and while the menu has changed, the atmosphere hasn't.  There's an old-school counter, and the service warms up only with frequent visits.  Everyone here is a regular, and there's a reason.  Delicious Pho, Bun, Vietnamese Coffee, and I'm sure everything else too, all cheap.  If you don't like this place, it's your fault.

A++ - Amazing and affordable. I haven't had a bad thing on the menu - vegetable noodle soup, pho and spring rolls - and my picky husband loves that it offers more approachable dishes like fried rice. The prices are great and the service is good. (I think we get extra attention because the servers love our son!) My only complaint is the cash only policy. We would go more often if it wasn't for having to hit the ATM.

    This. Place. Is. Awesome.

I honestly don't know why you're sitting there reading this when you should honestly be on your way to the Saigon Restaurant to order a Summer Roll with Shrimp and Pork and a Vietnamese Coffee.

The Roll was super fresh and honestly the best one that I've ever had - outside of Seattle. Seriously. No. I'm being totally serious here. I loved the fresh herbs, the soft roll and the umami from the dipping sauce - which was a unique mix of hoisin and peanut sauce - ultimately making the BEST peanut dipping sauce ever.

The coffee is authentic and really strong - just make sure you ask how to make it the first time! The coffee here is SO much better than the Vietnamese Iced Coffee at the Dash In, and cheaper to boot.

So go already - and thank me later.

Best pho I have ever had, even though it is only the second place I have had pho, it was very good. The decore reminds me of a '50's dinner taken over by a Vietnamese family (you decide if that is good or bad). Bring cash, they don't accept credit cards.

Downtown Fort Wayne is undergoing revitalization with the opening of a new ball park and hotel.  Saigon is just a short walk down Calhoun St. from the ballpark, and is a great little hidden gem.  It is a family operation.  The secret to great pho is the broth.  Restaurants that take shortcuts in broth rarely stay around for long.  The beef broth is simmered for hours and then seasoned with cinnamon, anise, and other spices for a subtly balanced flavor.  Then the rice noodles are added at the last minute.  They are chewy and light, and allow flavors like the broth, Hoisin sauce, Siraga sauce, Thai basil, lime,  and bean sprouts to spring forth.  Of course Saigon is not the kind of pho restaurant one would find in LA, but it is good.  The fresh spring rolls are very good (with peanut sauce) and the Vietnamese iced coffee is the best in town---it puts Starbucks to shame, really.  $2.50 of caffein heaven.   We have tried the duck noodle soup, which is very good too.

I like their pho. I've not have chance to try other dishes in this restaurant.  I always go there for pho.

Community oriented busy restaurant serving delicious noodle bowls and pho. The Vietnamese Iced Coffee is a must to balance spicy dishes!

I noticed someone said they do not serve alcohol, but I believe they do have a beer/wine license. The menu also includes American diner breakfast offerings which makes it easy for everyone to find something they like.

Have been going there for several years, usually on Saturday or Sundays, and always a warm welcome from staff even when crazy busy, and the regulars are very nice, too.

Good value... very affordable and take out available. Bring cash or be prepared to sprint to the nearest ATM. I've seen it happen a few times. Hee.

Best Vietnamese food in town. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired but the food is worth it. Order noodle bowl 5.

The Saigon  restaurant  is one of my favorite Vietnamese spots around town. From the outside, this seemingly appears to be a hole in the wall. But the interior is an amazing contrast. Inexpensive lounge music plays while you dine in this small intimate space.

The menu here is great. Many of the standard dishes that you will find elsewhere, but with enough of a flair to separate itself. The Saigon  shows how a little extra effort on presentation can go a long way.

Admittedly, I do tend to stay within my comfort zone of dishes here. The vermicelli is very nice. Not too warm or cool. The addition of what tasted like mint was refreshing. It has the right consistency, though I wished there was more of a noodle serving. The rice dishes are great here too as the grilled meats are prepared well.

The space is a bit smallish, so be prepared for a wait if the place is full. Though it seems like they have a back room for seating. At least it seems like it. If you are looking for solid Vietnamese fare with a little flair, The Saigon is your spot.

    * I notice the reviewer JayChan H. He states in his review that, "It's a rainy day in Fort Wayne". When you look at the photos he took. The one of the outdoor sign, also the interior. Looking out from the counter. The weather does not appear to be like that.

** Myself, I have often wanted to stat a review with. "It was a dark and stormy night".

    Pho-king awesome!

It's a rainy day in Fort Wayne and I'm craving a big bowl of soup. I'm really craving a bowl of pho like I can get back home in la-la ville and I'm pretty sure there aren't any Vietnamese this deep into the midwest......WRONG!

Thanks to a quick Yelp search I found Saigon Restaurant. It's a small shop with counter service and a few tables. It's a Saturday afternoon and the place is packed. Immediately I was greeted by "Tammy" from the Anjelah Johnson, Crystal Gel video. " There no table, we busy, you wait ten or fifteen minute for next table." A bit abrupt and almost rude but that's OK I'm jonesing too much to care. I grabbed a spot at the counter and waited about twenty before I could get anyone to wait on me. It's a busy place and the staff seems flustered every time you ask for something. Maybe it was an off day...

The pho broth is just as it should be and the Vietnamese coffee is strong and delicious, a perfect warm up on a cold day. The only thing I found odd is having to ask for basil. It took a couple of attempts but I finally got a few sprigs, enough to share with the couple sitting next to me. I was surprised to hear they have never tried basil in their pho, in fact I noticed they didn't use any of the add-ins that normally come with the soup. You have to add the cilantro, peppers, bean sprouts, basil and lime to get the full spectrum of flavor!

Normally I'd kick off a couple of stars for slow or poor service but I give the crew here a pass because they really seem under staffed for such a busy place. Note to owner: Give Tran more to do, the poor guy looks lost.

Lastly good citizens of Ft Wayne, next time you visit Saigon on Calhoun order your bowl of Pho and pronounce it correctly. Here's a hint, use the sound Fuhhh like in 'fudge' and add a question mark.

    "Fuhhh?"

Your waitress will be impressed and (maybe) bring you some basil before you have to ask.

This is a cheap and tasty place for Vietnamese food. The bun, pho and goi cuon dishes taste pretty standard. Not a big fan as the more Chinese items on the menu, including fried rice, lemongrass chicken over rice, but that's just me. I would be inclined to stick to the traditional Vietnamese dishes. Decor is diner-style.

Has a larger city diner feel.  Many of the items on the menu are very traditional Chinese/American in flavor, albeit well done.  However, the soups are out of this world, and so many to chose from.  Huge bowls with amazing garnishes.  The price is just right.  Service may be a tad slow if they are busy and slow on help.  Try the young coconut juice.  Fantastic.  My friends and I have been going back as often as we could once we found this place.  If not used to it, avoid the fish sauce.
